Funny and casual parenting tips to supplement the more scientific baby books you might be reading. The last chapter is the type of encouragement new mums need.

There was one useful part of this book - lists about what to bring to a hospital, and what you really need with a newborn - but the rest was so heteronormative that it made me angry. Also, it encourages you to save money on not buying certain items and then to use that money to go and get wasted. Some of the opinions were judgmental and felt old and dated. This book was gifted to me and I was excited to gift it to some of my soon-to-be-mom friends, but it's way too commercial and consumer-crazed for me.

This book is fine. I think it’s better for new moms. Hard disagree with some of the advice (the day at home alone plan sounded horrifying) but most of it is common sense and fine. The breezy tone is also super hetero and feels a bit thin obsessed in moments and privileged//urban centric l. I sort of expected that.

It took me forever to get though and I realized it’s because it feels like pre-cheerleading Instagram. A lot of the advice feels like stuff you’d get in a caption these days. I realized the fact that the others are hot matters more than if should to get my attention. That and the fact that it feels like something you’d read on the toilet (moms hideout!) or in 2 min intervals made it feel like Instagram to me.

But I finished this quickly bc I’m behind in my reading challenge lol.

I wish I had found this book when I first got pregnant. It is such a breath of fresh air in a sea of information that can be hard (and scary) to wade through at times. Even though my son is already 9 months old, there was lots of stuff I still needed to hear, and I suspect I will be reading this through again when I prepare to expand my brood, or simply when I’ve had a bumpy week or two. This book is a perfect reminder not to take yourself too seriously, and that there is a network of (rebel) Mamas out there who are all thinking/feeling/freaking the f**k out about the same things that you are. Just breathe, Mama. We’re all in this together and we’ve got this!

This charming novel was a gift from my sister, and she admitted it was a total Cover purchase. I think she was trying to tell me I was cool to make me feel better about my crippling depression during pregnancy.

I found the narration annoying, but liked that the authors were brutally honest about how unglamorous pregnancy and motherhood is. Their hospital list was extra helpful.

Meh - this started out dubiously but got better towards the end. I liked the emphasis on raising empathetic humans and taking time for one’s self but that was a small part of the book. The authors should have focused on that more and dropped some of the less useful stuff about pregnancy and child care and household organization.

This book was generally funny and witty but overall not that informative and at times felt patronizing /trivializing. Maybe a good intro book for women who are just starting to question and think critically about motherhood and their roles but overall I was a little disappointed.

This books was a short read. I read this during the last couple weeks of my pregnancy and it was what I needed at the time. It was very real and to the point, with hilarious points along the way. Recommend if you want a fun, real, no bullshit read.

Cute book. I had a couple laugh out loud moments for things I could relate to. Would recommend as an easy read with some good advice for first time moms or moms who have gone through it and need a bit of a chuckle and reminder that we all go through the tough and messy parts of motherhood.

Gifted to me by my partner. Cute and playful... a good hipster intro to parenting for novices. Made me feel a bit more at ease and definitely made me laugh :)

If I ever wrote a book about the first year of motherhood, it would almost word-for-word be this. Super relatable and practical, no BS!

A lot of this was empowering, but the way men/partners are framed left me pretty angry. I also felt it wasn’t useful to include quick tips from newborns up to 6 year olds, as I will never remember those tips 6 years from now.
