"My Fair Lacey" is the story of Lacey, who has dreamed of opening a restaurant for years - but first she needs a loan. When Garrett Halifax, her roommate's Harvard-educated brother, offers to help her clean up her appearance and manner to impress the bank manager, she jumps at the chance - but will she be able to keep up appearances without falling for the sexy Garrett?
In "A Perfect Fit" Rallison Jojo Halifax believes that winning Echo Ridge's float competition is just what her fledgling art career needs. And if that means giving her ex-boyfriend, Anthony, a second chance so she can be a designer on his team, well, she's willing to make the sacrifice. But when a lost bet leads to a blind date with her brother's friend, Wyatt, she begins to have second thoughts about second chances. Wyatt is handsome and charming and just might have been paid to make her forget about Anthony. Is falling for his charm worth the risk or should she take Anthony back again?
Janette Rallison has five children who keep her well supplied with plot ideas, sometimes even making cameo appearances in her novels. She likes to write romantic comedy because there is enough angst in real life, but theres a drastic shortage on both humor and romance.
Playing the Field was named Society of School Librarians International Best Book Award Honor Book, and both Alls Fair In Love, War, and High School and Love, Life, and the Pursuit of Free Throws were included on YALSAs Popular Paperbacks for Young Adults list. Fame Glory, and Other Things on My To Do List, was just chosen for IRAs YA Choices list for 2007
My Fair Lacey This was a charming retelling of My Fair Lady, a favorite movie of mine. I enjoyed the contemporary setting and how she was able to bring a classic to life in our modern times. Lacey was a likable heroine, she comes from a poorer upbringing, but has very big dreams for her and her family. To achieve those goals she undergoes not only a physical makeover, but an educational one as well. Leave it to Rallison to fill the story with charm, embarrassing moments, and a sweet swoony romance. This is definitely one I will want to read again.
A Perfect Fit I really loved this story. Jojo and Wyatt were such a fun couple, and I loved the plot for this one. The small town charm and working on floats for a local parade. I wanted to go to that parade and see all these cute floats! This is romantic comedy at its finest, would make an adorable Hallmark movie!
I am so glad Ms. Rallison decided to publish these two stories together. They have overlapping characters so it's a perfect fit. I'm a really big fan of Ms. Rallison books, she is an amazing writer. I always love her stories and characters and these were no exception. I look forward to reading them over and over again!
MY FAIR LACEY--Lacey is rough around the edges and Garrett takes it upon himself to refine her and help her get a business loan to open her dream restaurant.
I love the modern take on this classic and thought that the characters were great. Lacey is sweet and tries really hard to change and help herself. I could see her falling for Garrett along the way, but wanted to see more of Garrett's feelings for Lacey--more of a connection. This rags-to-riches type story really warms the heart and is such a fun retelling of My Fair Lady.
A PERFECT FIT is all about Homecoming. Isn't the parade one of the highlights of the week? I love how businesses come together to build the floats and I really wish I could see them.
Jojo is a talented artist but doesn't believe in herself. Her brother's ploy to get her away from her loser boyfriend is for his college friend to seduce her. With humor and fun, this romantic comedy won me over, especially with the tender moments that stemmed from love. Jojo and Wyatt are both charming and sweet and this story captured my heart.
I really enjoyed having these two stories in a set together, since they both take place in the lovely small town of Echo Ridge and the characters make appearances in each other's stories.
Content: mild romance

This was a cute retelling of my fair lady. A show I have always loved with an ending I hate. Rallison did a better job ending her book:} It was a simple story with a nice love story. Easy read:] Sweet and clean
My Fair Lacey- 2 solid novella stars. For a short length work, this was pretty good. The female protagonist was well developed. She was sweet and kind, with a pragmatic outlook on life. The H was harder to like. He was a little one dimensional and how he treated the h was a little mean at times. However, the vocabulary gaffes and word usage jokes were pretty adorable, and the ending was sweet.
A Perfect Fit- 1 star. There wasn't any OW drama in this, but the h was too wishy washy for me to like this one.
1.5 stars for the two stories. Overall, I liked the humour in these novellas and the fact that they were clean. However, they were both pretty average. I'd read something that was full length by this author as long as it's safe and features characters that are strong.
These stories were previously in a couple of Echo Ridge Romance anthology books and are perfect together in this pairing because a lot of the characters are in both stories. It's like a double feature romantic comedy.
MY FAIR LACEY--Lacey Johnson wants to have her own restaurant but the bank turned her down for a loan. Her roommate's brother Garrett Halifax needs to do a dissertation and helping Lacey get a better job by changing the way she talks and dresses is going to be the topic of his dissertation. Garrett also wagers his sister's boyfriend, Anthony, that Lacey can get a better job which is how A Perfect Fit comes about.
Lacey is from a family that's never had a lot of money, but she's a wonderful person who's a hard worker and cares about her family so much that she dropped out of college when her father got cancer. She's very rough around the edges as far as speaking properly and doesn't care much about what she wears as long as it's modest and clean.
The story reminded me a lot of the TLC show What Not to Wear except this also included English and grammar lessons. Garrett is super sweet and shows a lot of patience with Lacey. As always Janette Rallison has some hilarious scenes and funny dialogue. I loved the story of Lacey's date with an out-of-towner, and the conversation at the art gallery when she confuses the word neophyte with nympho was priceless. You can't go wrong with a rags-to-riches type of story especially when it all works out for everyone in the end.
A PERFECT FIT--JoJo Halifax's brother, Garrett, doesn't like her boyfriend Anthony at all, so he makes his roommate from Harvard, Wyatt Nelson, a deal he can't refuse. Garrett will hire Wyatt as his assistant at Kenworth's for the summer with double the pay, and he can stay in the guest room at Garrett's condo rent free while he dates his sister, JoJo, to get her away from the pretentious Anthony, or "at least fall out of love with Anthony". There's also the homecoming game parade float contest going on which enables JoJo and Wyatt to spend time together.
Wyatt is handsome, witty and funny, while Anthony is a manipulative, pretentious artist who thinks he's smarter and better than everyone else. The more time JoJo spends with Wyatt, the more she sees how different he is than Anthony. Unlike Anthony, Wyatt thinks she's a talented artist. I loved the family dinner scenes. I originally read this as part of the Second Chance Kisses (Echo Ridge Romance #4) and it was one of my favorite stories in that collection.
Both of these stories are clean romances and I think they'd make great romantic comedies.
I LOVE A PERFECT FIT MORE BUT MY FAIR LACEY IS ALSO WONDERFUL :))
I really have no words since it's Janette Rallison's book and I ALWAYS LOVE her works. Really, I think her works are the only books that I have read more than 4 times, and besides Alessandra Hazzard's MM Novels, Janette's the only author that I read all of the books.
I love you, Janette! I really love your works. I will read your diary, or even grocery list, if I could. Please don't ever stop writing!
I don’t get to reread things very often. I was so excited to get to read My Fair Lacey again! I read it and reviewed it as part of the Silver Screen Kisses book a while back. I enjoyed it at least as much rereading it as I did when I read it the first time!
I loved Lacey. I love the way she’s just real. Her realness is a bit of the problem she has with getting a bank loan. Enter Garrett. He thinks he can teach her how to talk and dress. Then she’ll get the bank loan she needs for her new restaurant. That’s where the bet between Anthony and Garrett starts.
I love the way Garrett works so hard to make everything work for Lacey. And Lacey falls for him while he works so hard for her. I love that there are tons of funny little things that Lacey says and does. The part where they’re at an art show made me laugh so hard. And the dinner at the end…wow! That scene is just perfect!
This book is even better because it’s two books in one! I love that the second book goes hand in hand with the first one. It’s got many of the same characters and you get to see what happens to Jojo.
I will admit that I didn’t understand what made Garrett not like Anthony in the first book. But in the second one, I could understand why. I didn’t like him by the end of the second book either.
I loved the plot of the second one as well. I loved the way Garrett goes about getting Jojo to date someone else. And he picked the perfect person for Jojo to date and fall in love with. I loved the lengths that Wyatt went to get her to love him, even though he felt like it was a lost cause. And Jojo is the best!
And one of my very favorite things was that both of these novellas take place in Echo Ridge. It’s one of my very favorite places to get to read about. All of my favorite characters were still there!
Make sure to read this book! Neither of the stories in it will take very long to read. You’ll love them!
I adored this book!! I love the modern twist on My Fair Lady in My Fair Lacey - plus I liked the ending of this much better than the movie ending. I truly enjoyed the banter between the characters and the growth in their relationship even though it was a novella. The same goes for the second book too - A Perfect Fit. Janette did an incredible job of creating witty dialog and sweet moments as the characters learn and grow together in both stories. I laughed out loud several times during each novella - plus felt the frustration, confusion, and even moments of sadness with each character. They were so real and so relatable, and I adored them. The stories are connected in that they have the same characters, but the focus in on different couples each time. And the Epilogue was perfect! And not in the way you think of all dreamy and swoony, but perfect for the characters and their situations. I will absolutely read this book again and again. I highly recommend this book. It is clean, fun, and a fabulous quick summer read!!
Aw, these were both so cute. I liked A Perfect Fit just a tad better than My Fair Lacey, but they were both good. Fun characters & cute story lines and some sweet romance.
Moral Note: A date that ends with the guy expecting something No language, clean romance.
Oh my gosh! I just finished the duo-novellas, and I’m beaming! Seriously, that final epilogue was hands down the BEST way to end these stories! I was giddy as I read that ending! The competition in the kitchen between the two boys, and the way the entire scene played out after that, with a final dollop of teasing from Wyatt- oh wow, couldn’t have been better!
It’s almost 2 in the morning, but I had to finish!
These are two novellas that must be read together, one after the other. They’re best that way. Both romances were cute, with fantastic chemistry and likable characters.
I wrote the below review after fishing My Fair Lacey, before starting A Perfect Fit. All I’ll say about A Perfect Fit is that it was equally cute and entertaining. Personally, I’m not into grand gestures, but this one worked anyway without feeling ridiculously over the top. I really liked how insufferable Anthony was. I absolutely loved how charming Wyatt was. I liked Jojo a lot, and I loved seeing Garett and Lacey. But my favorite aspect of the story was how funny Wyatt was. I loved his witty banter and flirting.
Both novellas were easily 4 stars each, but that final epilogue bumped them up to five stars when read together.
Content:
Language- no swearing
Sex- very clean. Some kissing. The characters clearly had high moral standards, ie, they didn’t consider sharing a hotel room even if they were boyfriend/girlfriend, and they didn’t consider moving in together when they planned to move to the same city. Stuff like that. No explanation necessary about WHY they took those standards seemingly for granted. I liked that a lot. It felt totally natural to me, because that’s how I grew up, too.
Both covers I’ve seen for the combined novellas are cute.
I read this on Kindle Unlimited
My Fair Lacey review- This was a fun novella with good chemistry. The film My Fair Lady is a great storyline with a dissatisfying ending, so it was fun to revisit the plot. The whole setup in My Fair Lacey was entirely plausible, which was a huge bonus. I laughed out loud a bunch when she was learning new words. There were a few hilarious conversations! I actually did some highlighting, which says a lot for me. Their chemistry was awesome, and I liked how it was revealed that he had liked her beforehand. I liked that the story was serious about her grammar overhaul, too. However, the book did seem very abrupt at the end. I was expecting more to the story- more to their relationship development, more kissing for sure ;), and definitely more to her transformation (so that it felt permanent). It didn’t quite get there for me. I loved most of the book but the final ending was just okay. Definitely worth the 4 stars, though, for being a novella. Those are hard to nail.
The first story, My Fair Lacey, was silly but cute. A modernized My Fair Lady with an Eliza Doolittle character that uses “ain’t” and other not smarto language.
I quit partway into the second story, A Perfect Fit. We got to see Jojo’s super stupid boyfriend in the first story, and some more of him at the beginning of this one. I just couldn’t summon any sympathy for her when she’s sad about getting dumped by Mr Jackwagon. Jojo was crying about it on her date with Wyatt. That’s where I said, “nope.”
I have to admit, I've read a lot from Author Janette Rallison and I really love anything she writes. These two novellas have the same characters in them, but different couples are highlighted in each novella.
The first one is called. "My Fair Lacey" and is patterned after the musical, My Fair Lady. This story is just so fun and cute. It had the same humor of someone that doesn't know how to speak properly and her "mentor" who is trying to teach her how to speak properly and wear proper clothes. Lacey is trying to get a business loan for a restaurant she wants to open. Her roommate's wealthy brother jumps in to educate her. There is a bet going on to see if Garrett can teach her what she needs to learn before she goes back to get her loan. This leads to many funny things happening. I loved the chemistry between Lacey and Garrett. It felt very natural how they came together as a couple.
The second novella is "A Perfect Fit". In this story Garrett's sister, Jojo, and his old university friend, Wyatt, go on a date that was the outcome of the bet that was made in the first novella. Garrett hates Jojo's boyfriend and will do anything to get her away from Anthony so he sets her up with Wyatt. As in the first story, Jojo and Wyatt are put into some funny situations. I truly loved the banter between these two characters. Wyatt is "Perfect" and I loved everything about him. Jojo on the other hand has a hard time knowing what to do. Does she give up on her current, manipulative boyfriend Anthony, or does she fall for the charismatic Wyatt? I especially liked the epilogue at the end of the two novellas. I don't want to give anything away, but just know it also is one of the most perfect epilogues you'll ever read. Don't miss out on reading these great novellas that are found in one book.
I'm adding this book to my list of Summer Reading suggestions. Now add it to your list!
I loved this story. There were a few innuendos and they had me giggling at the wrong times. 🫣😂 Normally I wouldn't like too many in a clean book, but some of these seriously tickled my funny bone. Maybe I'm in the wrong mood. 🫣😂
I read both of these in the Echo Ridge compilations and thought they were great, so I love that they’re together on their own now. Both are so funny, so heart-warming, and so much fun to read. I needed a good book to make me laugh, and this was perfect.
I kept giggling while reading these stories--which was a problem because my four-year-old demanded an explination. I loved the big words and mocking classic literature. Rallison's characters and their voices are excellent as always, with adorable banter and a perfect feel-good ending. You can't go wrong spending time with her characters.
My Fair Lacey - PG Violence: slight fisticuffs Language: nothing offensive Sex: no sex, a couple kisses I read this before as part of an anthology and enjoyed it just as much this time through. Some of Lacey's inner dialog had me cracking up. Her relationship with Garrett is great, as well. I adored the feelings reveal. Super fluffy, but so good!
A Perfect Fit - PG Violence: none Language: nothing offensive Sex: no sex, a few kisses Delightful! I like Ms. Rallison's contemporary stuff so much better than her high school books. This was a great chaser to the My Fair Lacey book, although it isn't quite as funny.
This was a fun break from my usual reading fare. Sometimes books are very serious and depressing and you need to take a break from that and read something light, humorous, romantic, and entertaining. It was like a breath of fresh air to step back from life and read these enjoyable little stories.
Another hit by J. Rallison. I love her books. This book kept me laughing. It is a quick entertaining read. There are a few small errors in the book but other than that it was excellent.
(Genre:Fiction/Romance/Contemporary/Novella) 2 novellas by one of my favorite authors. I really wish that Rallison would move and become my neighbor. Her sense of humor is really a delight.
My Fair Lacey: Lacey is a 20-something waitress in the resort town of Echo Ridge with big dreams. She wants to open her own restaurant. With her mother's excellent culinary abilities and her extended family's support behind her, Lacey approaches the bank for a loan and is immediately shot down. Super discouraged, she is encouraged in her dream by her roommate's brother, Garrett. He tells her that it's not a lost cause. A Harvard business graduate, Garrett is more than willing to help Lacey with her business plan for another go with the bank. The weak link in the dream is Lacey's speech patterns. Lacey grew up in the town's trailer park and her speech reflects the community she was raised in. Garrett makes a bet with his sister's boyfriend (Anthony) that if Lacey could learn to speak with a more educated vocabulary and accent, she could get the loan she needed. A modern retelling of "My Fair Lady", I really wondered how Rallison would be able to make this romance work. Trying to change someone or needing to change them is the exact opposite of a healthy and happy relationship. But Rallison manages to bring the romance full circle and make you believe that these 2 very different individuals have a real chance at making this work. 4 stars.
A Perfect Fit: Garrett's younger sister, Jojo, is Lacey's roommate and an aspiring artist. When her boyfriend and fellow artist, Anthony, loses his bet to Garrett, he has no problem reneging on the payment. But Jojo isn't a cheat and since Garrett won the bet, Jojo pays up--by going on a date planned by Anthony but with a guy of Garrett's choosing. Anthony is bent out of shape by Jojo fulfilling the terms of the wager he made and their resulting quarrel leads to their breakup the very day of the date. Hurt and upset, Jojo throws herself into the date, knowing that she will never see Wyatt again and thinking she might as well enjoy the man her brother purchased for the evening. And she does, until Anthony shows up to take her back. Wyatt can't believe that Jojo is so willing to let Anthony manipulate her. He finds himself really attracted to Garrett's little sister and wants her to recognize that she doesn't have to put up with Anthony's treatment and that she is a talented artist in her own right. I didn't enjoy this short story as much as the first one. I didn't love Jojo and I harder time connecting with the characters. But I did appreciated Rallison showing and calling out Anthony's behavior as manipulation. Too many individuals in relationships don't recognize the warning signs and I thought this story pointed that out quite nicely. 3 stars
I love Janette Rallison's sense of humor. It's one of the reasons I enjoy her books. These stories were no exception. The humor was plentiful, and the romances were sweet. I do wish they'd been longer. I hadn't realized they were novellas when I purchased them, or I may not have read them. I don't care much for novellas as the stories always seem rushed. Despite this, I did enjoy reading, especially the second novella, Jo Jo's story.
I had a hard time getting through My Fair Lacy. I'm sure some of it has to do with the fact that I never liked the concept behind My Fair Lady. Helping people improve their business etiquette is one thing, but trying to change them completely is another. I realize the story ended well (much better than the original), but the whole idea still bothers me.
Also, the way she spoke really threw me out of the story. Maybe if this had been written in the late 70s or 80s it would have fit. But I don't know of anyone who has used "ain't" or some of the other slang words used here since I was about six years old and we chanted "ain't ain't a words and you ain't supposed to say it...". Even then, no one I knew used it. We just thought it was a funny chant. Then, her vocabulary improved tremendously in just a week. I'm a teacher, and even the most diligent student takes longer than that to show extreme improvement. Especially when under stress.
The likes and ums would have been enough for poor speech, possibly with some wannas, shouldas, and couldas thrown in. As cute as I found the story, this threw me out so much that I found myself cringing and forcing myself to keep reading at some points. It just seemed too unbelievable.
Though this one wasn't my favorite, I generally love Jeanettes books and will definitely keep reading her stories.
I loved both these books in this set. My Fair Lacey features Lacey and Garrett. It’s the My Fair Lady story, with the educated man teaching the uneducated heroine to speak right so she can get a loan from the bank…and if he successfully achieves his goal, he will have his doctoral thesis done as well. The author did a super good job, even though it’s a shorter novel, at pulling me in to love the characters and enjoy every single page I read. Though I knew how it would end, I had fun all the way through and totally loved it.
A Perfect Fit is the sequel to My Fair Lacey. Lacey’s roommate, Jojo, made a deal with her brother that she would let him set her up with one of his friends if she lost the bet about Lacey’s transformation. (Rather, Jojo’s boyfriend set up the bet.) But when Garrett wins, her artist boyfriend isn’t so keen on the idea of her going on a romantic date with another guy. He tries to get her to renege on the deal, but she’s too honorable. Her boyfriend breaks up with her over it, and so, she meets Wyatt, Garrett’s oh so charming college friend who woos her against her will. Thinking she will never see him again, she throws caution to the wind and kisses Wyatt that night…and it is magical. But bozo boyfriend crashes their date before it ends, dragging her back home and says he’s going to give her another chance. Wyatt, against his will, has fallen for Jojo, but how can he get her to see that she’s being totally manipulated by wannabe VanGogh? He determines to make a grand gesture to win her heart…and show her that they are a perfect fit.
Again, another super adorable story with characters that were beyond amazing. I’m in awe that this author made me like them and the story in so short amount of time. She’s got skills.
I really enjoyed reading both My Fair Lacey and A Perfect Fit. Both of the novellas were entertaining to read, had witty dialog and featured sexy, swoon worthy men. The two novellas fit together nicely since My Fair Lacey introduces a few of the characters that are in A Perfect Fit. I will say that I enjoyed reading A Perfect Fit more than My Fair Lacey. Both novellas are great, but I connected more to the characters in A Perfect Fit.
My Fair Lacey primarily focuses on a woman trying to learn how to present herself in a sophisticated manner in order to impress high brow bankers with the hopes that she'll be able to obtain a loan. Lacey's transformation mostly involves developing an advanced vocabulary and upgrading her wardrobe. Of course, misunderstandings ensue while Lacey expands her vocabulary that is sure to earn a chuckle from the reader.
A Perfect Fit focuses on a scheming brother trying to lure his sister away from an obnoxious boyfriend by setting her up with a hunk of man candy. This novella was especially funny and a delight to read.
I often compare reading anything written by Janette Rallison to eating chocolate. It's delicious, sweet and consumed far too quickly.
I absolutely loved both My Fair Lacey and A Perfect Fit. Both stories fit together well and were excellent sweet romances that can be enjoyed by a wide audience. I loved the characterization and I want so badly to visit their small town. I loved how they were different stories but fit well bound up together.
My Fair Lacey is about Lacey and her best friend and roommate Jojo. Jojo’s brother, Garrett starts a bet because of Jojo’s boyfriend, Anthony, that he can help Lacey meet her dream of getting funding to open a restaurant (Anthony thinks it’s all about who you know and Garrett believes how you present yourself matters greatly). Garrett decides to make improving Lacey his thesis assignment. He finds much more than he bargained for.
A Perfect Fit, I can’t give much away without spoiling the first but Jojo finds herself mixed up with Wyatt because Garrett can’t stand to see his sister with a manipulative jerk (Anthony). They’re getting ready for a big town-wide parade float competition and Garrett finds himself pining after the girl he can’t have.
Great clean (and sweet) romances. It would be a dream to see these be made into a movie (or movies) or a series!
I hardly ever give a five star ratings on books, but this two parter deserves it.
They were both fun and light-hearted to read. Rallison, was brilliant with the American dialect. Mark Twain was first to put American dialects in a novel. The unique dialects each state in America have, says a lot about a person. The same with each country.
My mother read this book. She comment: "Rallison, could be the modern day Jane Austen. She have started to develop amazing character development."
I agree. Rallison, have started to give each of her characters completely different personalities that they are starting to leap off the page and smack you in the face. Just as Jane Austen, characters would do because of the incredible character development.
One of Rallison, characters Anthony, was spitting personality as a member of my family.....she hit that close to home. I was left thinking perhaps Rallison, met that member of my family.
The books are a delight to read, but her books usually are,
My Fair Lacey – What can I say? this was a fantastic retelling of the classic. Ms. Rallison did a great job of transforming Lacey via Garrett, who was just the best!
A Perfect Fit – Yes, this story was truly laugh out loud funny. Through most of the story. Wyatt couldn’t have been more of a character than he was. Cocky, sweet, clever. Anthony was annoyingly, well, annoying. And JoJo was oblivious. It was fun having Garrett and Lacey in this story – they were in the last Echo Ridge anthology in the story My Fair Lacey.
This is a super cute retelling of My Fair Lady. I was looking for something light and breezy, as I was bedridden and recovering from surgery, and I got just that. There were times when I laughed out loud and giggled like a twitterpated teenager. In the first book, the main character's bad grammer was a bit over the top, but I was able to suspend reality and forgot about it for the most part as her transformation occurred.
I didn't know what to expect with the second novel, and was delightfully surprised to find a continuation of the first one, just with different characters. That was fun.
The romances went a little faster than was plausible, but the time frame has to be sped up naturally to make it occur in short books.
All-in-all, these were the perfect book for some light convalescence, reading by the pool, or soaking up sun in the hammock.
I voluntarily read and reviewed and ARC of this book, but the review is honest.
