A POWERFUL ANCIENT RELIC IN AN UNEXPECTED PLACEThroughout the course of human warfare, no weapon has been as feared, as deadly, as the Ark of the Covenant.Legend claims that this mysterious, supernatural force, first carried into battle by the ancient Israelites, was so powerful that the Ark could lay waste to entire armies, entire cities in moments—thousands of years before the advent of nuclear bombs. So, when an ancient order of killers reemerges from the shadows after centuries of hiding—convinced that other secret societies took the Ark from Jerusalem to hide it in early America—international treasure hunter Sean Wyatt knows exactly what they seek and why. And that realization terrifies him.Together with his best friend and sidekick, Tommy Schultz, Sean must track down the Ark before the Order of the Assassin can. Before their order can pervert this heavenly power and wield it to enslave all of humanity. In a life-or-death fight to save both themselves and free people everywhere, Sean and Tommy must again beat the clock, this group of murderous villains, and a series of cryptic traces left by the ancients both to throw these bloodthirsty men off the trail and to save us all.In this Sean Wyatt thriller, USA Today best-selling author Ernest Dempsey again rips the veil from history to throw readers headlong into a hidden world of clues, secrets, and danger. Readers, hold fast to Wyatt and Schultz, or you too might be lost to the deadly Templar Curse.
Ernest Dempsey is a huge fan of action/adventure thrillers and science fiction.
He has been creating stories since he was in high school but never published a book until 2010, long after the days of high school were gone.
His action & adventure books come from a lineage similar to Clive Cussler, Dan Brown, Steve Berry, and James Rollins. While his science fiction novels are full of influence from Suzanne Collins' The Hunger Games, The Matrix movie, and Gladiator directed by Ridley Scott.
He is quickly becoming one of the hottest fiction authors in the book world.
I received a free advance ARC copy from the author and I also purchased it from amazon.com. Something I like to do to support my favorite Indy Authors.
Dempsey grabs your attention right from the start of 'The Templar Curse'. When Emily Starks is in the storyline, as a reader your in for a pretty decent read, then both Sean and Tommy will face some fierce adversaries and it makes you ignore the predictable formula writing he does.
By this I mean, Dempsey seems to always make the bad guys so fierce, invincible, having no equal, ruthless, pay off people to get what ever they want and so unstoppable.
An example, when they take the Professor, stab him, then shot him, then dismember him and burn the body in a furnace.
Then you have my favorite quote, 'They were a precision instruments, scalpels sent to remove a disease'. Yet they get taken part by a team using tactic's that wasn't up to what the Order of Assassin's used or trained with.
Just got too love how the badass bad guys, just put off killing Sean and Tommy, yet they don't blink killing people to leave no loose ends, or even members of the assassin's order.
Your waiting for; A) Ms. Starks and Co. to come to the rescue, to free them. B) Alain and his crew make a mistake. C) Tara & Alex will come to their rescue and save the two. D) All of the above E) Combination of B & C
Regardless how badly Dempsey hyped up or made the Order of Assassins to be, they get beat pretty simply as both Sean and Tommy escape from them in different ways. It made it totally unrealistic, unbelievable, and killed the story for me.
Have to give him props for his writing kept me reading till the end. Since just about every book, has the same theme happening, just recycles them but like the Sean Wyatt character and just wish Dempsey would change it up.
He needs to introduce new things to his storylines, it would make for a better reading experience or make it so I can't predict what will happen so easily.
Don't get me wrong, Dempsey still pretty talented, he'll fill the void between books from your favorite author's in the action/adventure genre.
I had to force myself to stop reading this Sean Wyatt thriller because I would have finished it too soon. It is good to see the “kids” get more involved in the adventure. I know that their characters will grow and they will be much more of an asset to Sean and Tommy. I highly recommend this book to everyone.
With a nod to Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark and with shades of Mission Impossible, Ernest Dempsey's all-action hero Sean Wyatt is a cross between Indiana Jones himself, Tom Cruise's character in the latter and an American James Bond - and his missions are just as exciting! The Templar's Curse tells of Sean and sidekick IAA chief Tommy Schultz, lifelong university pals and both with a sense of justice and passion for archaeological discoveries in the most unexpected places. There's usually a feisty, alluring female involved and in this 15th Sean Wyatt tale, it's Emily Starks, an FBI special ops Agent who's been seconded to keep an eye on Sean and Tommy's progress, while our heroes are regularly under attack by nefarious enemy and rogue home-grown agents.
Who will locate the Golden Chambers of Akhanan revealed by the interpretation of the peculiarly-engraved stone tablet that men have been murdered to gain possession of? Who will survive the deadly attacks by Sean, Tommy and Emily's relentless pursuers? What diabolical traps await the first to enter according to legend? What is the ultimate goal of the mysterious leader of the Assassins?
I really love the whole series and The Templar's Curse keeps up the high standards of the previous stories, never disappointing even the most ardent fan of other authors or their secret agent thrillers. Don't delay - get your copy straight away and buckle up for the thrill-fest ride of your literary life!!
I've been a fan of Steve Berry and was searching for a similar author when I stumbled upon Ernest Dempsey. I had an idea that these kind of historical adventure thriller series doesn't require to be read in a particular order. Hence, I picked the 15th book based on the no of reviews. The story involves the usual deal of cracking codes and dodging bullets and Assassins, quite literally, because the antagonists of the book are the secret order of Assassins. The central conflict of the book is a biblical relic called Ark of Covenant, which was brought to America by Knights Templar in early 12th century from France. The author didn't take the pain to explain what is the Ark, neither he showed the real Ark in the end. I liked, however, the camaraderie between the protagonists, Sean Wyatt and his sidekick Tommy Schultz.
When will the bad guys ever learn that it's a mistake to come up against Sean Wyatt and his friends? Sean is up to his usual antics as he faces new foes and tricky clues, whilst trying to find and save the impossible. I have already read a few of the other books in the series, and this one doesn't disappoint. You don't have to read any of the other books to understand the quirkiness of the main characters.
A good story but I didn't feel it was as good as previous Sean Wyatt books. While you expect some stories to be a bit unbelievable, this one went over that line for me. A secret assassins society so ill trained, they are shot to bits by a research technician? Something's you can accept for a story but the tenor of this tale just didn't work for me. Hope the next one improves.
Any time I can’t put a book down, that’s a good book. Most of the books in Ernest Dempsey’s Sean Wyatt Archaeology series are easy to read through and most are always quite interesting. I love history, and I especially love archaeology. Dempsey does a good job of combining these two disciplines as well as a few others to bring the story – whatever it might be – together quite nicely.
In fact, one of the reasons I read Dempsey’s books is BECAUSE of my … predilection … for history. In my opinion, there is much that we’ve been taught through Mainstream Academia that just doesn’t… hang together. What I’ve found with authors like Dempsey is that often their story lines are far closer to the truth of whatever subject is being covered in the book, even though they may say or even believe that what they’ve written is merely their overactive imagination. Sometimes...it isn’t. Sometimes...it’s even True Fiction.
As for this particular subject – the Knights Templar – they have been one of my favorite mysteries for several decades. As for the ‘treasure’ that Dempsey writes about in this book, there are numerous non-fiction as well as fiction writers who claim to know where this particular treasure is located. But I doubt seriously (and of course, I COULD be wrong) that the majority of those writing and alive today truly know where this artifact is located. In my opinion, some of the best non-fiction writers on this subject are Scott Wolter, Freddie Silva and Graham Hancock, while in the fiction category Steve Berry is a favorite. And of course there are many others. But then there are, in my opinion, quite a few disinformation agents and fantasy buffs out there as well.
Of course, there have been many theories, some which seem quite probable, but … while many claim to know where it is located, no one – to my knowledge – has actually revealed the artifact itself. And even if it HAD been revealed to the public, there’s every probability that it would be/is just a… duplicate, not the real deal.
And in this particular story the Templars – and then their … successors, the Freemasons – meet head-on with their greatest nemesis, The Order of Assassins who appear to be winning the race to the referenced treasure. But who will actually locate the treasure?
All in all, a great romp around the globe.
However, I have to say, there was one thing that really bothered me with this book, and in fact with the other books in the Sean Wyatt archaeology series: all the killing. While most storylines – and, in fact, most businesses, it seems – don’t seem to be able to function well without guns and killing, I had decided that I couldn’t handle all the killing in spite of the fact that Dempsey is an excellent writer, and therefore I was ready to retire my interest in this series.
And then Dempsey had Sean Wyatt voice similar concerns to mine in this regard and determine that he was no longer going to be killing people.
So, how is THAT going to work out? Guess we’ll just have to stay tuned for the next couple of Sean Wyatt archaeological thrillers to find out.
This book is a great antidote for anyone who is suffering from Sean Wyatt withdrawal symptoms (ie me!) Ernest Dempsey always manages to produce cracking thrillers, and this is no exception. Thrown up against an ancient order of killers in a race for clues to the whereabouts of the Ark of the Covenant Sean and Tommy are thrust into a series of deadly situations, where their skills and wits are tested almost to the limit. I think that it is fair to say that this book gave me a definite adrenaline overdose. Sean and Tommy have always been great characters, and it has been a pleasure to watch the way that these characters have developed through the series of book, Tommy particularly has grown, from a rather unfit playboy type into a formidable opponent for the various baddies that they go up against. Sean has always been a very capable man, with his special forces experience, but we are now seeing a more sensitive side to him as well, and this makes him an even more rounded character. One of the things that I like about this author's work is that although he has various series, which do have a common link, each book is a complete stand alone story, with all the plot elements resolved at the end of each book. However, as is always the case with this type of series, the reading experience is enhanced if the earlier books in the series have been read. But whichever order you read them, the Sean Wyatt books are all excellent reading. I did receive an advance copy of the book but this honest review is based solely on my own opinions.
…that one may NOT write one of these books without the Handler or Boss or Supervisor of The Secret Ex Army, or SEAL, or Delta Force, Guy, being a woman.
This trite device seems to apply here too. Only a woman could be tough enough and smart enough to run this type of…uh…“operation.”
A simple caveman guy must almost ALWAYS be commanded a brilliant, strong, independent woman.
It’s a rule. A law.
Also a Law: we must sip our coffee, so there is lot’s of sipping and sips and sipped and sip going on here.
ALSO, another LAW: in ANY fight, we must have a scene where, “Blood spurted from his nostrils,” and so we have lots of smashed noses going on — with TONS of blood spurting, in gory spurts!!
At least, in choosing an evil, omniscient, world-wide, ancient, evil group that runs parts of the world, this writer did not pick on the usual Masons, Illuminati, Mafia, Bratva, The Pope, or Templars…(spoiler alert!)
“The back tires barked against the asphalt.” Good line, although the writer is generally notusually very prolific about turning a phrase. But the writing is competent and good.
Lots of “sipping,” of coffee, and “sip, and “sipped,” and “I’m good,” and “we’re good,” and “It’s all good,” and “good to go,” if you like that sort of moderne, hip thing.
Sips.
Another Rule is fulfilled: legs must be “pumped;” one never simply runs:
I have to admit the title of Mr. Dempsey's latest Sean Wyatt thriller, The Templar Curse, had me hooked. I've been an avid reader of anything related to the Knights Templar and the Friday the 13th purge as well as the lost Templar Treasure. As with all the previous Sean Wyatt books, this one is action packed from the prologue until that final page, and one can expect Sean and Tommy to get themselves into any manner of fixes that may not end well. This latest book includes a couple of addition to the field tam as the story progresses which makes for an even more interesting story. If you are a Sean Wyatt fan, this is a must read, if you are new to Mr. Dempsey's stories this would make an excellent introduction to his storytelling as well as to the world of Sean Wyatt and the International Archaeological Agency team. I received an Advance Reader Copy and chose to provide this review.
I received a free advance e-copy of this book and have chosen to write an honest and unbiased review. I have no personal affiliation with the author. Wow! This may be Ernest Dempsey’s best ever! Sean, Tommy, and The Kids (Alex and Tara) rock. ‘The Templar Curse’ starts out with a ‘bang’ and never quits. Couldn’t put it down. Full of action, danger, murder, and suspense. This is a well-written piece of historical fiction with great character development, and an amazing plot. Excellent author research is obvious throughout. We learn about the Knights Templar and a renegade group called ‘Assassin’ and their relationship to the Ark of the Covenant. What happened to the Ark? Where is it hidden? Will it be discovered? This is a great read as are all books by Ernest Dempsey and I recommend it. I look forward to reading more from this author in the future.
I've been reading Ernest Dempsey's books since the Sean Wyatt series began in The Secret of the Stones. I fell in love with his writing style of action, adventure and archeology. Each book has just just gotten better. The Templar Curse has a little something extra that sticks with me. It was interesting to read about some things I'm at least a little familiar with. The action and adventure were all there along with stories of the Templars and of the Assasins, an equally old order. I really like the emotions and lack thereof in some of the characters. Naturally the plot was fantastic. I truly enjoyed everything about this book and plan on reading it again soon. I highly recommend this book for lovers of mystery, action, adventure and suspense.
Book 15 of the Sean Wyatt series is easily Mr. Dempsey's best book yet. In fact, I'm going to wait a good long while before I read the next book in the series just because I want to bask in the thrill of this read. The Knights Templar is a regular topic of action/adventure writers. And all-too-often it's the quest to find the Ark of the Covenant or the Holy Grail. Mr. Dempsey gives us a real exciting story has Sean and Tommy searching for the Ark, and while it's a standard quest among action/adventure writers, he spins his take on a fantastic manner. In spite of what could have been a predictable trail to the Ark and then a predictable outcome, Mr. Dempsey chose to toss us a twist in the end.
The adventures of Tommy Schulz and Sean Wyatt deserve to be ranked alongside the best novels in the genre, including the works of David Wood, Lincoln Child and Kitty Pilgrim. In “The Templar’s Curse,” Schultz and Wyatt battle evil forces to find the location of the Ark of the Covenant, probably the most fabled artifact of all time. Could it be hidden in Europe, America or fabled Oak Island? As usual, Schulz and Wyatt solve the riddle but leave considerable carnage behind them before reaching their final mysterious destination. When history and fiction collide in an archeological thriller, I find the results mesmerizing. Dempsey has become a master storyteller who is worthy of your time.
Unaware as I started this book that it was in a series, this book read well on its own with no backstory necessary. Compelling story with a good plot line, some parts a bit predictable but those didn’t affect the overall. The action was continuous and tense, it was at a pace that didn’t require a straight reading but did ask that the reader pick back up as soon as possible. I will likely read another in this series to determine if the particular plot line was compelling or the writing and characters were.
I just finished reading the Sean Wyatt series and while the books can certainly be read by themselves, I definitely enjoyed seeing the progression and development of the characters throughout the series. Each book is a new and exciting adventure. You never know what's going to happen next. I hope the author keeps adding more books to the series. I would also like to see Tara and Alex more involved in the stories. I would definitely recommend these books to anyone that likes adventure with a little historical speculation thrown in.
Once again I was riveted by Mr Dempsey's writing. The Sean Wyatt series has been one exciting book after another and this one was perhaps the best so far. The action was Non-Stop, the humor between Sean and Tommy also terrific. I loved seeing Alex and Tara more involved. The enemies are easy to hate. The research had to be extensive. I learned a lot of American history and I enjoyed it immensely! Thank you again Mr Dempsey and I look forward to reading the next one in the series.
The Templar Curse is another brilliant book in the Sean Wyatt series .. it can also be read as the perfect stand-alone action, adventure mystery. Ernest Dempsey is a genius author. Not only does he create well written books that hook the reader from start to finish, he also weaves a story around a legend or myth that is interesting, intriguing and believable. Sean and Tommy are in fine form as always and the 'kids' are brilliant. I loved this book and cannot recommend it highly enough.
The one item that really remains in my memory is Tommy, during his escape from the lair of the Assassins is one truth. Ernest had Tommy do the most logical step what most authors do not have their characters perform. Pick up discarded weapons or magazines to continue the fight. Most authors give their heroes weapons that never run dry. Kudos Ernest that fact motivates me to pick up another of your novels.
Loved it, as I have loved the previous 14 books in the series. I love how he intertwines real history with his storyline. It always meshes well even when it is unbelievable. You think no way could this part be true, then that little niggling doubt sets in. That is what makes Dempsey's writing so fun to me. I will be quite sad when I get to the end of this series and have no more adventures of Sean and Tommy to read about.
Sean is drag into a situation while looking for Jesse James gold in his free time. The Assassins want the tablet and other relics which IAA is trying to translate. The prize is the Ark of the Covenant. The Assassins, an ancient order, that wiped out the Templars, want what they feel is theirs. Lots of action trying to outwit the order. Love your notes at the end. Great job. Thank you.
I had the privilege of reading an advanced copy of the Templar Curse and have to say Dempsey has done it again! Sean, Tommy, and company are on the hunt again for a piece of history. Of course they are never without bad guys. A group of the worlds most dangerous killers are on the trail too. The book is week written and as far as I could tell error free. Thanks Ernest!
From the first paragraph, I knew this would be a great adventure. This book has a bit of everything that the reader of this genre will love. Excellent character development, intriguing plot full of page-turning action, twists and turns. If you're a fan of adventure and myth history, read this book!!!
Lots of action, bad guys aplenty are after the Ark of the Covenant. Not your typical bad guys. These guys are the Order of Assassins, the opposite of the Knights Templar, who are trying to protect the Ark. Sean gets involved when a couple of men come looking for him in a small town trying to kill him. This is a winner!
Earnest Dempsey' s The Templar Curse demonstrates that the author has reached a new level as a writer. His characters have more depth than in previous books in the series. Twists and turns abound and the reader never knows what's coming next. Particularly enjoyed the ending!
Once again Ernest Dempsey has written another excellent book in the Sean Wyatt series. Great characters and an interesting plot makes this a quick read. Like the others in this series,I am adding this to my read again collection. I hope new books in this series will be forthcoming.
Author Earnest Dempsey writes a very exciting archaeological thriller and this is no exception. Again starring Sean Wyatt and pal Tommy Schultz, in this instalment, they are on the trail of the lost Ark of the Covenant. There are of course others who want to get there first and use the find for their own evil ends.
You taken on a journey that you will not believe is happening , that there are people look for there own satisfaction of taking what they want. But they run into people that really due care about a lot special things that are for the greater good. The book was done great the did a great job writing this book, well done.
This book is such a great read. While the action and adventure are definitely amazing, the real glory of this book has to be the battle of good and evil. Reading this novel as incredible as it was, exceeds that in the last chapter. I won’t give it away but the twist was such a shock. It left me breathless and hopeful.
This a back and forth battle between good and evil. The bad guys literally fight to the death in this one. The tone is intense and good people get hurt. Nice twist at the end.
