Strangers on the Phone

Rate this book
Eason Rockwell lives a perfectly normal life. She has a great job at an art gallery, two best friends who also serve as her roommates and a mom she has an almost okay relationship with. Ophelia St. Germain lives a life anything other than normal. With a half dozen Grammys, a burgeoning film career and a family that defines dysfunctional, nothing would surprise her. Until something does. It’s a Friday night when Eason attempts to dial her best friend Lily, only to find a woman named Fia on the other end. The two hit it off almost immediately and continue to talk over text and phone calls. What Eason doesn’t realize, is that the woman on the other end is not just Fia, but rather Ophelia St. Germain, one of the most popular singers and celebrities of the day.

4.5 stars and a really good read.

I really enjoyed this read. It's a good length with a nice story filled with friends, little drama (though some topics were kind of heavy), and lots of cheesy but really nice romantic gestures and dialogue. The chemistry between the characters are all there weather friendship or romance. What's nice is that past is not center or driving force of the book, the present and future is.
A couple of things kept me from giving this 5 stars, heads up minor spoilers ahead. The first is this character Riley who I thought was a girl but turned out to be a guy which honestly isn't that big of deal but threw me for a loop. Second, Jessica is suppose to have prosthetic leg but she is sometimes refered to having a brace and after you find out the real story behind the reason a brace makes more sense. Third, there was a good deal of repetition in the story to explain things. Could have saved a good amount of pages cutting that out. There were also a good deal of errors through out but if you can take that in stride then it's worth it.
I really did enjoy this book and look forward to read other works from this author.

This is a sweet story, a bit sappy to me, i think. Though, I enjoyed reading it. I like how they first knew each other by calling the wrong number. It kind of cute, i guess.

...

I seriously dont know what else to say!

Well... this is kind of a bit different from what i normally read about celebrity characters. They tend to scare to coming out that might effect their publicity. This book though, Fia is out and still popular and also supported by her fans. So the book is more about Fia’s secret girlfriend that didnt want to be in public’s eyes. They also did long distance relationship. It’s quite a fun read and i enjoyed their dialogues and romance.

The important characters (the two mains and the best friends) in this book, also had some past issues but it didnt really effect or not at all to the present. Also little drama! :) all characters are likable and i like them all.

3 stars. Soooooooo sappy and every minor side character has this hugely dramatic backstory. When everyone's special (or fucked up?) then no one is. But it's not a bad book. I'd go as far as saying it's actually pretty good for a first book. I'll follow the author to see what she puts out next.

But, girl, use Grammarly or even Google Docs next time. There are so many minor mistakes that really shouldn't be present in a published book.

I really did enjoy this! It was different for anything I've read before. Touch some sensitive issues which some people may find hard to read about, but it was very well written. I loved how the MC worked together, and it had all the norms that you expect to read about in a book, the characters, romance, drama, ex's, the dysfunctional family (a sensitive issue, but again, well wrote about).. etc. But what I really did enjoy about this read, that is wasn't just centered on the 2 MC, but we get more of a feel of Eason's friends, their back grounds and their stories. I would actually love to see a follow up of Elodie and Jessica.

I really enjoyed this story but dropped the rating back to 3-1/2 stars because of the massive amount of errors throughout the book. At least one on every page. Also, this story is supposed to take place in America but there are Brisishisms throughout the book. At times I did not understand what was being said. That was either from errors or Britishisms that I am not familiar with. All of this combines to ruin what could have been a really good story. Shame.

Just a few of the ridiculous errors:
“After I reminded Ophelia about how popular Claire came after she opened for her on her last tour, however, she became tight lipped. ‘I am glad that Claire’s talent as been well received.’

Eason waited until she was sure that Fia was done speaking before she starting talking herself, “That was great Fia. You did a great job,” she reassured the girl. It might have seemed like such a little task, but but Eason knew how hard it could be.

And seeing her reassuring her through he screen just cemented it. (??)

Not even now that she was back in New York in her own better.

“Because she once to get close to Fia again,” Lily intervened.

“You have a girlfriend?” the seventeen-year-old, and youngest member of the Gators band of sisters, Talia asked with a girl on her face. (WTF???)

I consistently find myself grateful for the fanfic community. I honestly feel that if it weren't for it, the availability of quality queer lit would be far far less than it is. Even just 20 years ago we only had publishers like Naiad press (1973-2003). Now? Now folks can cut their teeth at fanfic sites like AO3 before publishing on Amazon.

Having said that, this book is obviously uber-Clexa. And it's done IMO pretty well. Yea it would have been better if there had been more eyeballs on the manuscript, but who has 5-10K to spend on a professional editor? Especially if you self publish? Not many I'd guess.

Overall I liked this pretty well. Celeb stories are usually hit or miss with me but this one worked. The sub Ranya arc (Jessica/Elodie = Raven/Anya) I'd have liked to see a bit more but that's just me being picky.

It's a Clexa FanFiction!

Like seriously:

- blonde blue eyed main protagonist (=Clarke) who was actually at one point in the book called Clarke (I assume it was an editing mistake), brunette love interest (=Lexa)

- the blondes father is a dead astronaut (=Jake Griffin), her mother(=Abby Griffin) is a doctor dating a guy named Marcus Kane (= Marcus Kane)

- there is a sarcastic dark-haired best friend with a leg brace (=Raven)

- there is a psycho ex-boyfriend (=Finn) who cheated on the girl with leg brace with the blonde main protagonist

- Lily (=Octavia) was hidden all her life in the basement by her mother, has a overprotective older brother (=Bellamy) and is dating a huge buff guy (=Lincoln) not to mention that for some reason Lily's nickname is mentioned as "O", even though that letter isn't in her name (but Octavia from "the 100" was called "O" frequently)

-if Elodie isn't supposed to be Anya, I'll eat my hat, the same for Claire=Costia

Honestly, I'd like it more if it was still a Clexa fanfic (I tolerate writing mistakes in fanfics, not in published books, and here were a lot of them) or if the editor removed the "O" nickname for Lily, because it doesn't make sense and it annoys me

I thought this was going to be a good one for me, but it wasn’t. It was a little juvenile for me and there are a number of typos, differences in time, and at one point a character was called by a random name that doesn’t appear anywhere else in the book.

This would had been overall much better if they didn't got together at like 28% of the book.

And can't lie they gived me the ick sometimes with their cringe moments, I had to take deep breaths waiting for my blood to start functioning normally.

But even I have no I dea why kept reading it,it just needed improvement but it wasn't that bad.

So, it’s okay I guess, could’ve done with a decent edit though. Plenty of mistakes, which make it obvious that this story was originally The 100 fanfic. At one stage a characters name becomes Clarke, & in another instance the band name is The Grounders. Still, infinitely better than the worlds most infamous Twilight fanfic / novel 50 Shades of Grey...

I thought this was a feel good book, but I was wrong. I honestly thought I was walking into romance, and sweet times. Yeah, it had that, but the bad stuff... I couldn't get out of the funk. I was reading this to lighten my mood, but it did the opposite. I really wanted a light(happy) read.

There are some emotional triggers in here that I stepped on unknowingly. So if you can't handle subjects like then I honestly suggest you walk away. This delves into those things with various characters including one of the protagonists. Like I said, there was no light at the end of the tunnel for me. Once I read the multiple accounts for those characters there was no hope. If you can handle these areas of humanity, then you may like this story.

The writing style isn't too flashy, and this does need an editor, or perhaps a read through. I appreciated the fact that drama among characters weren't drawn out to prolong angst and suspense. For the most part all problems were resolved quickly and I liked that they behaved very mature. No intimate bedroom scenes, which I appreciated due to my own reaction to some of the plot.

Once I figured out it was a The 100 fanfic turned published book I kind of skimmed the rest of it. I've got nothing against fanfics to publish works, however, when there is too much of the original content used in the AU it gets boring to me instead of using the source as inspiration with the characters for said AU.

Not sure if this review makes sense, I just like fanfics to books to have a feel of more originality I guess while having the characters from the source as an inspiration, but not just them taken out of their source and dumbed completely in an AU.

Spoiler(?) even the brief mention of Lily's backstory of having no human contact except with her mom and brother the first 16 years of her life, Octavia from The 100. I guess I just don't like it obvious.

Great read!!!!!

Loved this book. I could not put the book down. The author left me wanting to know what was going to happen in the next chapter. I don't know how many times I told .myself that I told myself I was going to bed after this chapter and the author made the end of that chapter so interesting that I went to the next chapter. I wish there was a sequel to this book, I could have read on and on. I recommend this book to any one that loves a good love story. I only wish there had been more!!!!!!

The best thing about this book was that they actually communicated like well-adjusted adults. I also discovered while reading this, that it might be a fanfiction that got published. (I might be wrong about this, but I'm a bit familiar with the fandom and I recognized some names and circumstances.) It felt fanservice-y sometimes, but I don't think there's anything wrong with that since it's amazingly written and the flow of the story was really good. It was overall a good read and I enjoyed it very much.

I wanted to like this so badly. The premise was interesting but the execution was just not there. The things that killed me the most were the abundant typos/grammatical errors and the awkward exposition dumps. Also, the plot felt a bit clunky, a bit underdeveloped, and poorly paced. The first 30% was easy enough to get through, but a lot of the middle/end felt drawn out and a bit cringy (which I know a lot of people like, it’s just not for me). I think this story could be good with a solid editor.

Characters so real!

Each character felt like a real person with real imperfections and honest, rational reactions. A very rich book I absolutely could not put down, one of my most prized (if not the top favorite) lesbian romances to have read to date. Dang, wish all romances could be so dedicated to having characters being so defined, and I wish I could read this all again for the first time.

I oddly like the name Eason

This book has been done before many times on Wattpad but despite that knowledge I enjoyed this book. It's not perfect it needs to be edited (hopefully very soon) the plot is solid, the development is solid, the characters are solid so despite the glitches it was an entertaining light but good read. Give it a go

Great read

This was a great love story. Loved how the characters met and lived the ending. My only two complaints: the story was drawn out too long and there wasn’t any love/sex scenes. I need at least one. 😁

Easton and Ophelia are cute, but a little bit too sappy in some places in the story. But it is an interesting idea....is the world so small that a wrong number could lead to a relationship? The romantic in me wants to believe....

Great story

Unusual storyline, one full of suspense and fray but fun and entertaining at the same time. Eason and Fia were both enjoyable and exciting to follow throughout the story.

I enjoyed reading this but it has a lot of errors, mistakes and typos and could use some heavy editing. It started out great but gets a bit lost and messy, I like the characters (but that’s a given since it’s clearly a CLEXA story), and the premise/plot.

OK, OK, I'm a sucker for this type of story! Can't help it, love it. Not the sort of book you'd talk about at an English seminar, but hey, give me a break and let me wallow in it. Thanks.

A nicely paced and romance

I wasn’t sure what to expect from this novel but ended up really enjoying it. Not too drawn out or rushed, it was well-paced and the story flowed well.

So sappy & loving

Lovely story. Great dynamics of story with the characters. What an interesting way to write a love story.... a misdialed number to become strangers on the phone.
