It's ROGUE and GAMBIT vs. LAVISH for all the marbles (nobody cares about marbles anymore, but it's still a great saying, just go with it)! The stakes in Paraíso couldn't be higher — the fates of innocent mutants, Rogue and Gambit, AND the hottest relationship in the Marvel Universe — all hang in the balance! Does being together make Rogue & Gambit unstoppable? Or does it doom their mission and everyone they're trying to save? When the dust settles WHO and WHAT will be left standing?
KELLY THOMPSON has a degree in Sequential Art from The Savannah College of Art & Design. Her love of comics and superheroes have compelled her since she first discovered them as a teenager. Currently living in Portland, Oregon with her boyfriend and the two brilliant cats that run their lives, you can find Kelly all over the Internet where she is generally well liked, except where she's detested.
Kelly has published two novels - THE GIRL WHO WOULD BE KING (2012) and STORYKILLER (2014) and the graphic novel HEART IN A BOX from Dark Horse Comics (2015). She's currently writing ROGUE & GAMBIT, HAWKEYE, and PHASMA for Marvel Comics and GHOSTBUSTERS for IDW. Other major credits include: A-Force, Captain Marvel & The Carol Corps, Jem and The Holograms, Misfits, Power Rangers Pink, and the creator-owned mini-series Mega Princess.
Kelly's ambitions are eclipsed only by her desire to exist entirely in pajamas. Fortunately pajamas and writers go hand in hand (most of the time). Please buy all her stuff so that she can buy (and wear) more pajamas.
Really really great conclusion. I loved the idea of Lavish’s powers. Really interesting. Would highly recommend this mini, especially for fans of the 90’s cartoon.
a good ending. more of the same stuff as issue 4, then it also wraps up the actual plot, which is not particularly interesting or well explained. but it really doesn't matter, because we're all here for the emotional payoff, and we get it in a conversation between our leads, acknowledging their forever linked status, and rogue saying she realizes it's silly to wait till it's perfect for the two of them to be together. nothing is ever perfect, and they should be together anyway.
Reading the letters page, apparently this is the first time they have had any sort of romantic progress in at least a decade. What?? I don't follow X-Men anymore, but this was a wonderful miniseries, full of thoughtful writing and excellent illustration. The baddie creates an interesting situation...The ultimate will they/won't they couple. Gambit's pursuit may come off as a bit sleazy, especially these days, but you have to admit that's been paired with great restraint and respect as well (at least what I've read, for example the 90's Gambit miniseries). Here's hoping it won't all be undone in subsequent storylines...I'm satisfied with this drop of sweetness in the bucket of Marvel continuity.
a 4.5!! it was a bit underwhelming tbh but i'm so soft n it ended on a good note!! also another mini series where it's just remy n rogue moving in together and adopting a bunch of cats is exactly what i deserve
This issue soaked up everything that had been seeded throughout the previous issues, good and bad. It summarized what is so loved about Rogue and Gambit, and why the relationship works as well as it does. I really can't wait to get more of them. They're worth every page.
This issue closes out the story arc pretty well. I’m not really an X-reader, so this pairing wasn’t familiar, but this has inspired me to perhaps dig into their back issues a little bit. I’d give the overall series 4 solid stars. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
only reviewing the last one because i binged them all at once, but this set is great. actually talking out the issues you’ve had as a toxic on again off again relationship is a good thing actually
