Story had lots of potential, but the writing seemed to be "plodding", if that makes sense. Maybe it was too much name repetition? Also I was able to skip about 30% of the book because it fell into drones of description that did nothing to advance the plot. The characters never seemed to get grounded and I really felt nothing for them. About a quarter way through, I started skipping large chunks and focusing on the parts that seemed to be interesting. In that way, I did enjoy the story to some degree, but I wouldn't recommend it. I'm going to check book #2 to see if things get better.
Well written, interesting characters, set in beautiful Oregon. Pace is a bit slow, but probably true to form for a book written to be the first of a trilogy. Ending is a bit of a cliffhanger; I was glad my book copy included the first few chapters from the second book so I had a sneak peak into what happened. Looking forward to reading the other two books!
The premise was intriguing but it took too long for something to happen. I was at the 75% mark before things got interesting and of course it's a cliff hanger ending, but I don't care enough to find out what happens next.
This was definitely a struggle for me to read until I got around three-quarters of the way in. I understand and appreciate the author's dedication to world-building and character background development, but it became a little wordy, and AJ's wishy-washy nature grated on my nerves a bit. I finally began liking her towards the end of the novel, so I will be moving on to the second book in the series. That cliffhanger though, one of the best I ever saw, hence the reason why I gave it a 4-star rating instead of a 3!
What a great story, full of adventure, mystery and a little love in a very picturesque location on the Oregon coast. Well written and excellent pacing as well as interesting main and secondary characters made this a fun beach read. I’m off to read the second book! Notes: cliff hanger and a little bit of a love triangle.
Standing at the bill overlooking the tidal pools, AJ sees a sloop appear out of the fog. Little does she know, her life will soon take an unexpected and seemingly impossible turn. She meets two men, a business associate of her brother -- and the captain of the ship.
Very good story, filled with interesting characters, romance , mystery, and more questions than answers about what happens next. Starting the next book immediately.
Great story so far with interesting characters, good introductions, and mysterious circumstances. A beautiful young reporter meets two equally beautiful men each with a mysterious past. Always looking for a story to have published in her small town newspaper these two men pique her interest and lead her to believe that they each might have a story to tell. As her interest in old buildings and antiques add to the quest of a good story. After falling in bed with Finn, one of the handsome men she finds herself in his warm arms floating through the mist and through time. Two hundred years in the past allows her to arrive in old Ireland with Finn and a predicament on how to get home. Time for the next book in the series. I’m excited for that!
Hmmm...... This book was not what I thought it would be. To me , it was a difficult read in that it was very ," word-y " , and there was no action until the 90% mark. Lots of back story that mostly dealt with the characters opinions and it was borderline boring to me. But I'm not a quitter, so I did finish it. Had the 1st part of the book been ad exciting ad the last part, I would have enjoyed it much more. Hardly any typos and it seemed to be well thought out. It was just too slow , for me.....
It was a struggle to finish this first book & now I understand why? It’s a hook, a good hook but still a hook to get you to buy the next book. Too bad this author doesn’t trust their writing to stand on its own. If it’s free with Kindle Unlimited I will read it, but if not I will walk away. The author failed to hook me to the characters or the story, in their attempt to sell the next one.
Normally I love time travel novels; however, this one—not so much. I found it to be so slow and the writing seemed forced to me. The ship in the mist was the obvious allusion to time travel, but why do we have to get into the second book of the series before we have any hint of time travel?? I get the cliffhanger aspect, but come on! I will try the second book to see if it picks up the pace at all, but it’s going to have to move a lot faster to keep me on board for the entire series.
AJ being caught between two men new to the town. Both wanting a stone that AJ has. Neither men knew she had it. AJ being a reporter got stories from the men. One about a very old house and another about a very old ship. Now the mystery continues. Where is AJ ?
It actually took me 3/4 of the book to get hooked on this story. I picked it up and put it down many times until I got to about the last quarter of the book. the end of the book is a cliffhanger which really ticked me off but I have started book 2 so I guess that is the point. I am interested in the storyline though and I haven't been able to figure it out yet.
Curiosity killed the cat??? AJ needs a story and when 2 new interesting men wander into her sleepy little town, she really gets her story. I am looking forward to reading the rest of the series.
Only got good about 70% in. Before that it seemed to drag on with no real story. The end got very good so I'll give book 2 a try. But if it drags the same way I'm done.
Oh my! What a mystery. Every time I think I might have some of it figured out, 💥 boom, something else happens. There is a cliffhanger. So make sure you have all the books!
A very interesting story which leaves the reader hanging in the end. The novel is well written with a cast of unique characters. I am anxious the read the sequel.
This review is for the entire Mordha Stone Chronicles series (6 books, not 3 as Goodreads indicates). I could review them separately, but I read them so fast that I can't remember which book is which.
This is a really, really good series - especially if you like time travel/romance/British history. The story is compelling and well thought out. I actually questioned where the story was going until the end of the first book...and was totally hooked after that.
The history is pretty much on spot, though there are some cultural things I would question, but I can live with that. The romance isn't overblown, a nice departure from either too much 'romance' or not enough.
Kudos to Kim Allred. She held my attention through 6 books and until the very end. Now I actually have to get some real work done. :-)
Audiobook: Good story, really good narrator. Lot of story to build up to last few minutes of book. Now don't get me wrong the last few minutes is really good.
