Dartmoor. A wild, wet place in the south-west of England. A place where it is easy to get lost, and to fall into the soft green earth which can pull the strongest man down to his death. A man is running for his life. Behind him comes an enormous dog - a dog from his worst dreams, a dog from hell. Between him and a terrible death stands only one person - the greatest detective of all time, Sherlock Holmes.
It's nothing too complex, but Dartmoor has a little bit of charming and mysterious feel to it and it does make you feel like you're reading a short story from a newspaper on a rainy day in 1901.
So The Hound of the Baskervilles is a book about the most famous detective Sherlock Holmes and his helpinghand Watson.
On a morning at half past ten Dr Mortimer comes to tell his story of The Hound of The Baskervilles and how he thinks it may be connected to the unfortunet death of Sir Charles. After hearing his explanation Holmes and Watson are very interested and go over to Sir Charles's house wich is going to be housing Sir Henry from now on. While they get more information before they go they notice a man in a taxi watching Dr Motimer and Sir Henry. Holmes and Watson try to follow him but they ride away. Watson arrives at the house without Holmes (he said he wasn't allowed to leave London because he is workin on a case). Watson hears some screams in the night and also find the butler Barrymore has also been supplying a escaped prinsoner with food and clothes the escapy is Miss Barrymore's brother. The neighbour and his 'sister' (but is actually his wife) give more stories but Stapleton is actually the one who is the bad guy??? Watson gets more information from Laura.L. Holmes was actually at the house of Sir Henry all along and the find the prisoner dead. They manage to kill the ghost off the family and figure out Staplton's plan.
I find this book to be pretty good bacause it has allot of mystery to it and its really unpredicteble though i find it diffucult to understand some words bacause it's old English. It's a thin book that reads fast and is very withdrawing and you can read the book in one sitting bacause it's so exciting. Allot of the people also have good character development The only negative is that sometimes you dont know who is talking becaus there are allot of characters at once
The book is writen in the perspective of Watson with lots off flashbacks to stories frome the past. The writning is in old English and everything sticks together so if u dont pay attention u might not understand what's going on sometimes
It is a great story. It tells a story about a mysterious dog pestering the citizens in Dartmoor. Sherlock Holmes and his partner Wattson try to solve yet another mystery and it isn't easy. I really liked reading this book because it was on an easy level, sometimes I didn't understood every word but when I looked at the context I knew the meaning of the word.It was a intense story, sometimes I had to close the book and take a deep breath before reading what happened next. What I also really liked about this book was that for a Sherlock Holmes story it was easy to read. It made me confident about myself and gave me a good feeling that I understood everything they wrote down. I really recommend this book for people who are trying to learn to read English. The variety in characters makes the boring parts of the story more interesting. I think this is a book anyone who is learning English should read. Not only because it's a good book to start with, but also because it's a classic story everyone should know. I hope this review made you decided to read the book.
I really like this book a lot. This book is about a mysterious case about a ghost hunted family. The family Baskervilles is getting exterminated on strange ways. The whole family Baskervilles is dying because of a creature that eliminates every single one of the family. Sir Henry is the last one alive. But he is getting chased down as well. Sherlock holmes is getting called in and eventually solves the case.
The composition of the book is very good, you start slowly but then the tension increases and before you notice you finished the book. I don't feel like there is anything bad about it, I just really enjoyed reading it. I hope I get the chance to read the full version at any time.
I would recommend this book to a person who enjoys mystery and detective stories. But if the person is a good reader, I would like to recommend the full version of the book because I liked this one, but I think there are going to be more details in the full version.
This was my first Sherlock Holmes novel. I'm not usually a mystery reader, but I enjoyed it. There were plenty of twists and little mini reveals as Watson, Sherlock, and other characters follow the threads of the mystery. I didn't, however, like the ending - there was no certain closure.
The Hound of the Baskervilles by Arthur Conan Doyle from the Sherlock Holmes series is a book telling the story of the misteries case taking place mostly in Baskerville Hall. It gave a great suspence of the appearance of supernatural events, which were thought to be due to the legend told by the locals. The story contains many turning points, which are coming at you with a suprise. There is also something new in that book, which is the big part of Dr. Watson in the investigation, which never actually occured before. All of these attributes make this book so great that it is perfect, without any weak points.
I was a bit disappointed as I realized that this was not the original. It was the only one at my library and it was filed under Doyle! Now I wonder what I missed and will have to find an original to read. I picked this one up as one of a couple since I realized that I had never read a Sherlock Holmes adventure and in anticipation of the new TV show Elementary I felt I should have some sense of the original writing. Not sure that this one really gave me that.
This was just beautiful. Everything from the beginning to the end was well placed, well paced, and well explained.
I really enjoyed Watson's narration of the story. It was buttery, smooth, heart-warming, welcoming, and just right. This was the first time in my reading journey that I noticed how much I was loving the narration style. Glad that happened in a Sherlock Holmes book♡
However, with this edition I did feel as though some parts were shorter than they should be and jumped a bit suddenly between some dialogues.
Regarding the end chapter where Holmes describes the whole plot to us, I have to say, it's a bit odd. The whole book was clear enough, so I see no need for all if those explanations. It is as if Doyle was writing for a jid audience.
Two more things that I enjoyed were some of the quotes and the illustrations. Oh, those were top notch.
Anddddd, this book proved to me, once again, that these two are gay for each other. At this point, you can NOT convince me otherwise😂
I will take out my revolver and fight you on it🔫🔫
10 out of 10... or 5 out 5, recommend the original version.
From all the graded books that I have read, this one is the best so far. As you know, it's tough to adapt from a novel to a simple text and don't let it lose its enjoyment. You can read it from the first chapter till the last one, and you're not getting bored. I'm not saying it's like the original but thumbs up for Patrick Nobes, who made it possible for us who can't read the full text yet and still have the chance to taste a masterpiece like this.
I had the pleasure to read this Arthur Conan Doyle's short story when I was English Student. Now I can say that it's a very impressive Sherlock Holme's story. Arthur Conan Doyle gifted to us a very interesting short tale with all suspense components tipical of Sherlock's stories.
A keďže Poirota milujem táto kniha má len a len potešila. Odporúčam všetkým desiatimi. Hodnotenie: 5/5
The Devils does his work when the world is dark. pg. 42
This book is a mystery story and I was very impressed during I read this book. All the times when I read this book, I always read with tension. This book takes place in Baskerville, which is the Western of England. I like the characters, its settings and the author's word choice. When Sherlock investigated case and told all about the murderer, he was absolutely nice. I know it's fiction but I was almost in the story. This book makes readers to get into the story and feel attractive. The author’s word choice wasn’t really hard, so I can understand easily and sentences were organized well. This book is the best book I ever read!
The Hound of Baskeevilles by Arthur Conan Doyle was a mysterious and detective genre. It is one of the stories of Sherlick Holmes a famous detective. In this story he was asked to protect the last of the Baskervilles family because someone might kill him from jeliousy and wanting his fortune. The client who hired Sherlock for the job also explained the mysterious death of the previous Baskervilles family head who was killed by a mythical beast "The Hound of Baskervilles". Sherlock didn't belive in this myth and only send his partner Watson to the home of the Baskervilles. Will Sherlock just leave the last of the Baskervilles to die and not solve the case?
It is a nice book by Sir arthur canon doyle, he has done a great job writing this book. my favorite book on my book shelf is harry potter and i could not find anything as good as that but i think that this book has competed it. I have also seen the Sherlock series on my laptop and i think it is completely different from this one and i think it is better. it was fun reading this book. GREAT WORK BY SIR ARTHUR CANON DOYLE......
Amazing story that written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. It was about a huge dog that live on Baskervilles in the South-West of England and there was a killer who made the dog to murder the people who live on it especially the Baskervilles' family to inherit the lands . The murder was a member of Baskervilles' family . Beside that all the details in this case were discovered by detective man who live in London . Perfect book I like it and hope to come as a TV movies :)
Before I read this, my Mom told me, "Oh! That book scared me!" I couldn't wait to read it! Sherlock Holmes is my favorite detective. This was a different Holmes tale as he's "barely in the dog one." 😄If your heart wasn't pounding reading about a glowing, frothing dog, you're not doing it right. 😊25/1,001
Nice quick creepy mystery here, all the wonderfulness of Holmes and Watson fully revealed in this one. There are some nice turns along the way as the story unfolds, with a nice climax. Very much worth reading, quite fun.
I suppose the original would get five stars. As for the adaptation, it is not bad at all. I gave it four stars because it has some clichéd expressions, which, I suppose, are not a part of the original text.
