The second half of this volume is actually really good story wise. However, the problem is there's a huge amount of random fan service and the first half of the volume is an absolute mess story wise.
I'm torn. The first half gets 1 star, the second half gets 4 stars.
On verra !
ENG I'm going to talk about volume 56 to 63; no spoilers don't worry ! Some scenes (especially in the 56) just ENERVOUS me, and I really couldn't stand it, I had to take a mini-break ! I must admit that the last two volumes were very good; we saw/re-saw certain characters. Quite a few fairly predictable things, but that's okay ! I'm pretty "frustrated" because I didn't get everything I wanted, but other than that I'm pretty happy with the end. I will not speak of the eternal "fan-service", that, I just can't take it anymore !!!! I know there is technically a sequel, I still hesitate to dive into it, at least for the moment ! We'll see ! A page turns, a book closes; it was a nice read.
(Might have been higher if I was in a better mental health state when I read it)
The battle continues with Zeref’s army pushing further into Magnolia to obtain the heart of Fairy Tail. Definitely focused on our female guild members this volume, we see what extreme types of magic the enemy is using and it’ll cause some major sacrifices in the process to defeat this threat. Only time will tell if Fairy Tail will be able to come out of this battle whole.
I really enjoyed this but wasn’t connected as much I felt I should be to the major events in this volume (again this might be because of my mental health rather than the actual volume). I did appreciate seeing the huge levels of extreme and I guess I would outlier types of magic they were on display. The afterwords by the author was really enlightening and I’m excited how he’ll incorporate more of these concepts in the future.
This book has the Empire Strikes Back vibes in my opinion. The Fairy Tail guild has an unconscious Natsu, the forces of Zeref are marching forward and slowly more and more of our heroes are getting warn out and beat up. My favorite quote from this book is so true in life...and of course in Fairy Tail as well; "LOVE is stronger than magic, you know." The Spriggan 12....is now the Spriggan 8! That is indeed progress, but there is so much that still up against Fairy Tail. Imagine having the power to present anyone you have ever faced!?! Flashback moments abound in the battle scenes from this latest volume of Fairy Tail. Hiro Mashima is not making it easy for his lovable guild. Battles aren't EPIC (or at least don't feel that way) but they are highly enjoyable. I think a lot of artists could learn the secret to clean, crisp attacks that are both eye catching and amazing from Hiro Mashima.
Once again, Hiro Mashima’s Fairy Tail storylines have shocked, confused, and fooled me, although I shouldn’t be surprised by now. I love how the author continuously develops relationships between the characters, and specifically in this chapter, Wendy and Sherria. One of my favorite friendships! I would also like to add that I adore the story behind the character, Brandish! This fictional volume was especially interesting!
4/5 The Alvarez Arc is going strong. The first bit is Wendy and Sherria’s battle with Chronos. The gorgeous Urtear makes a short appearance as well which was nice to see.
The next brawl is with Natsu and Lucy against Jacob. This was another interesting and numerous fight.
Then we start the battle between Erza and Neinhart who brings back versions of Fairy Tail’s vanquished foes.
Sheri a and Wendy, Chronos, Jacob, Natsu, and Wendy on the cover of volume 56.
The fights were good in this one. I was happy to see Sherria live up to her name of God Slayer and defend Wendy though sad at the cost. It was nice to see Lucy save the day (with some assistance from the Master and Natsu). The last fight was good, but a bit of a history lesson, which was good, but it took a minute to remember all of Erza's enemies.

In this part of the story we are shown some of the new characters powers and if you really like the story line then your going to love this part a lot because there a lot of action and it really fast pace.
I found that the true magic of DiMaria was very cheaty but I liked it, and I didn't like how she was defeated but it was very clever (and sad). I like Neinhart's magic because of some twisted part of me...

Thanks for the war map on the inside cover. It was getting impossible to keep up with who was where and fighting whom. Underwhelmed with the historia death magic. Felt lazy and resolved even more lazily - they all ran away because they were afraid of helpless Erza. Whatever...
