Dedicated with affection to Malgorzata Wolzyck Ladies and gentlemen, I am sorry I delayed my criticisms, but I was widely exceeded in my challenge. I saw many friends of mine in Goodreads were giving me a beating, and I am very competitive decided to get the batteries so the week pass myself to read rather than write reviews, and now I'm going very delayed and I owe much criticism. Criticism of the book I'm going to write now is very interesting. I answer to the question of aside from the reason given at the beginning of my criticism, of why I took so long to write a review of "about the black legend" Iván Vélez? There were several reasons, apart from by my innate laziness. It is for a simple reason. I didn't know how to address it, nor as sink you the teeth. This book is so deep, so interesting, so complex, and so full of erudition, which did not know that aspects of the same comment. So people can make is an idea. The ill-fated "code Da Vinci" had almost 600 pages in the Spanish Edition, but it was so flimsy surface that takes a day to read it. This book would have around 360 pages, and take nearly three days, but not because it was boring. Quite the contrary, but also because it had to pay attention to every word, he said. As I read it, I could not stop to think, and take turns to what he said. It took to read, because as I read I thought much of what I read is one of my multiple defects give them turns to things. First, humbly I have to say is thank you Mr Vélez is to thank the Mr. Vélez, by writing this book against the black legend. I.e., against the hostile propaganda against my country, perhaps-Spain the country more maligned and most reviled throughout history from inside and outside. It is curious, that you have read so many books on this subject, and that Mr. Vélez has provided something new, or that he did not know. First I must say something of Mr. Vélez, briefly, that foreign users of Goodreads basin is a city that is in the autonomous community of Castile and Leon, and interestingly is no historian, but architect. Disciple of the late Gustavo Bueno is a https://www.goodreads.com/author/show... . Already from the beginning is indicative, the interesting rock Barea Maria Elvira https://www.goodreads.com/author/show... (this author is required reading "Imperiophobia and black legend" ) https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/3... (I read the edition of encounter, which had a foreword by Insua https://www.goodreads.com/author/show... (, and Maria Elvira rock Barea) in the prologue the Malaga author spoke of as fed Gustavo Bueno two disciples Velez, and Insua, because he considered them two great wonders. The work of the Mr. Vélez is as I would say in the film of the "quiet man" (which by the way miss it today) Homeric, and does not leave any loose Cape, nor any question without trying to. In the first chapter the author removed the partisan myth of Catalan separatists of Almogavars, and its use separately by separatists. It also dismounts as did Sverker Arnoldsson https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/4... & from_search = true (this book, I read previously to the Mr. Vélez I must write a review soon). the myth of the hispanofobia made by the Italian humanists of the Renaissance, especially Antonio Ferraris, and its "Galateo", this is based on the work of Sverker Arnoldsson, and Benedetto Croce https://www.goodreads.com/author/show... . The funny thing, is that Iván Vélez is able to address issues that other writers have already spoken, and treat topics and more recent controversies, without compromising the quality of the book is the least. One of the cited authors is also Dandelet https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...https://www.goodreads.com/author/show... to demonstrate that away from the accusations, and the envy of certain Italian humanist management Spanish was not bad for Italy, but despite everything was very good, and I get to have a great understanding between Spanish and Italian. Not to mention the invaluable collaboration of Spain in defending Italy from the Turkish and Berber pirates. Proving the fallacy of books like 'The couple' of Alessandro Manzoni https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/5... . It is very interesting, but did the author Sverker Arnoldsson speaking of Francisco Jímenez Quesada and Antijovio dismantling the accusations of the black legend. Brilliant is its third chapter, where dismantling the subject of the Inquisition, alleged anti-Semitism of Spain, that relied on to another author who also refuted or attempt to refute the Spanish black legend, and I recommend the users of Goodreads Philip Wayne Powell and your "tree of hate" https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2... (Spanish users tell you that this book the last time I saw him publishing released it alters). Also talked about a subject, which was and is the presence of Sephardim in England (where I thought that Jews were not admitted in England until the time of Oliver Cromwell). Surprisingly, this fact, because England remained very anti-Semitic. The own Joseph Pearce says in his "Through the eyes of Shakespeare" https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/7... that both "the Jew of Malta" of Christopher Marlowe and "The merchant of Venice" of William Shakespeare would have been inspired by the alleged the doctor attempt to convert Antonio Pérez to poison Queen Elizabeth. In the case of the Sephardim is well known, in fact in the Netherlands, as the Lord Vélez will no doubt know a war there between moderate Calvinists the Arministas to which he belonged Hugo Grocio https://www.goodreads.com/author/show... and the faction most radical de Gomar, who was descendant of Sephardic Portuguese Jews. When it comes to remove the issue of apology of William of Orange it caught my attention, because I was unaware of this fact of the attempt of two brave Basque soldiers by ending the treacherous rebel Dutch Prince to his natural Lord, and I liked the reference that it has made an author each day believe more, and of whose Chronicles on ABC I enjoy greatly to Jon Juaristi https://www.goodreads.com/author/show... (the case of Juaristi is very interesting, because it is responsible for trying to demolish the single thought of the Basque independence movement). On the subject of Latin America has proven to be a mine of information, as it disproves the theme of San Bartolomé de las Casas. Becomes echoing information, queyo read in the Ramón Menéndez Pidal Durvan https://www.goodreads.com/author/show... coming to doubt the sanity of the Dominican. Knowledge that is the author of American literature, and how much, has read, and authors, out to demonstrate that all that genocide is a fallacy that is amazing. Also I liked very much, to take to the gallows, and dismantle the myth of the Enlightenment, and Montesquieu replica https://www.goodreads.com/author/show...https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/4...https://www.goodreads.com/author/show... I remember, that when I read to scaffold many years ago, when I was studying the subject of History of tolerance and had that read "The Treaty of tolerance" Voltaire https://www.goodreads.com/author/show... seemed infinitely superior the Spanish to French, and I liked the first a lot more (we have common readings because I also read Jean Sevilia https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...https://www.goodreads.com/author/show... With everything I would like to refute Cadalso, permitting the benignity of the users of Goodreads, and Mr. Vélez me. It is true, that the excesses of the League and of the night of St. Bartholomew were unacceptable, but talk of the violence of the other side, and that previously to Saint Bartholomew had become nights of Saint Bartholomew and would have provoked acts of vandalism as the Gueux Dutch, so that violence was unacceptable, but understandable. In addition, the French Huguenots were to provoke and offend the Catholic city of Paris. I want to remind, that, like the Moorish Huguenots revolted after the edict of Nantes several times against the King, and his expulsion was completely fair. Also practiced by the Camissards banditry should be reported. By the way, although it sounds very cruel, says Mr. Vélez about the Inquisition agree with him. Thanks to the inquisition there was no war of religion, as in the rest of Europe Avoided cases, as Dolet in France, and Goiás in the neighboring country. Glossy makes the conquense author Olavide and interesting the portrayal, which makes Benito Jerónimo Feijoo. It is also very interesting, your comments about Campmany https://www.goodreads.com/author/show.... I'd like to be included in my criticism of suicide to which we are witnessing praising intellectual currents that have been disseminators of the black legend. I refer to the excessive and undeserved, praise that colleges and universities are made of the Renaissance, Protestantism, illustration, liberalism, and the different kinds of of the utopian socialisms, scientist, passing through movements such as the feminism, and indigenismos, which are responsible for the black legend. Another interesting concept that speaks the author, and that to me particularly as a historian I was interested is He does three distinctions black legend, legend Aurea or pink (also incidentally created by Italians) and the yellow legend made by certain travellers Gautier, Dumas, Mérimée, or Barrow which I believe, Ramón J. Sender is mocked with its cycle of Nancy https://www.goodreads.com/series/1214.... Another thing that was my great interest and immense satisfaction has been that the author put in place people like the recently deceased Rafael Sánchez Ferlosio which has been one of the propagators of the black legend on the subject of Latin America. It is interesting distinction, Mr. Vélez generators Empires, and predators, comparing with the other Spanish colonization. Courts, and the defense, which the writer makes it I almost will not talk, because soon I will read your book about Hernán Cortes https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/3... It is clearly shown in the wonderful book of Velez, that this was not a genocide. What me worry about conquest is not, I believe, that the Spaniards were very cruel to ourselves. Mr. Vélez was imperial when I speak of the role of the Aragonese and Catalans in Latin America. We will see what will say Mr. Vélez about the last years of cuts, and the civil war of the Pizarro against the Spanish Crown. In this one of his books of reference was written by Lummis https://www.goodreads.com/author/show... for me has been very suggestive to know the figure of Jerónimo Ayanz, and suggestive studies of Quevedo which analyzed the head of Richelieu by Vesalius is hilarious :-) https://www.goodreads.com/author/show... also, and this is the original analyses the different positions of the Spanish authors, and the role taken by others in defending Spain's black legend. The author leaves well unemployed to the Countess Emilia Pardo Bazán https://www.goodreads.com/author/show... and his defense of spanishness against Nobel Hauptman award or which authors do as Vicente Blasco Ibáñez https://www.goodreads.com/author/show... or Salvador de Madariaga https://www.goodreads.com/author/show... while not falling defects of all of them. In the case of the Countess of Pardo Bazán belonging to the Institution Free of Teaching, in the case of Vicente Blasco Ibáñez he criticized his Anti-Catholicism, and anti-Jesuitism. Julián Marías is also very well https://www.goodreads.com/author/show... gives a special treatment as it could not be less to Julián Juderías https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...https://www.goodreads.com/author/show... is critical with the works of peripherals such as Campion Soler nationalists and his book on Caspe. Whose religiousness I could share, but not their peripheral vision of it. To avoid romantic visions, because I know, that many foreign users read my reviews I want to remember, that many of the criticisms of Sabino Arana Spaniards, mostly to the Castilians was that we were degenerates, and atheists. Today the regions more atheism in Spain are Catalonia, and the Basque country, and it is because its clergy (although in the case of the Basque country has improved something with Munilla Iceta) is dedicated to nationalism and marginalize the faithful of the Spanish language (I want to remind that the PNV voted in favor of the Aido, so-called same-sex marriage, law and has supported all laws Anti-Catholicism of the PSOE, not to mention that since Ibarretxe their Lehendakaris have not been religious men). The last chapters of this book are interesting, because they are very current, and the author is the most current events of the black legend. Attacks brilliantly seventeen models of Spain, the multiculturalism of the three cultures by means of Blas Infante, and Garoudy we already talked about my friend Alfonseca in his book "The mystery of the fifth" of the Egyptian vulture” https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/3...https://www.goodreads.com/author/show... recently read "Submission" of Houellebecq https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2... and spoke of Guénon. The author dedicated some last chapters to talk about the influence of Marxism in the black legend, and indigenous people. You could infinitely comment more aspects of the book, but I fear to kill boredom Goodreads users writing a critique so long and boring. The only flaw I see to this book is that it is too deep, but it will certainly be one of my readings of favorite non-fiction. I think, it deserves be brave and dare to read so deep, and smart as it reads. I hope, that like a thousandth part of what I liked to me.
