Unconscious Hearts is the first book in Harper Sloan's 'Hearts of Vegas' series. After reading this, I can't wait for more! I can tell I'm going to love this series. The first book was a strong start. Emotional, steamy, and a bit suspenseful, this story kept my attention from start to finish.
Ari Daniels has a painful past. She does well hiding that pain on the surface. She runs a successful business and has a best friend that she's super close to, but nothing can take away the soul shattering pain she has. When Thorn Evans enters her life, the last thing she is ready for is a man. But one night with this man, she may be able to handle that.
What starts as one night turns into a connection neither Ari or Thron was expecting. But they're each exactly what the other person needs. You can feel the magnetic pull these two have. Speaking of feeling- this book had so many feels! One of the things I loved most about it was it was emotional, and also that there were things I didn't see coming. I love when a plot point is unpredictable and I was definitely shocked by the turn of events in this one.
Ari is one of those characters I really felt for. Though I could not completely relate to all she'd been through, she was likable. Her friend, however, will be relateable for a lot of women. And I'm really hoping her book is next! Thorn is just the guy for Ari. He wasn't perfect, but he was perfect for her. Harper does a great job with writing alpha males that are fiercely protective and have big hearts. Thorn is exactly that.
Overall, I very much enjoyed this story. It kept me hooked, the writing was strong, and the story gave me just enough feels with plenty of angst and sexy times.

Following Ari Daniels, a fashionista with deep and painful wounds from her past, and Thorn Evans, a self-proclaimed manwhore who just found the one woman that makes him want more in life, this story takes you on a crazy journey of two complete opposite characters and the chemistry that sizzles between them.
Right away I was super intrigued with this story and the characters. Ari just spoke to me and her pain was so raw and unapologetic that I couldn't help but feel a strong connection to her as she was putting it all out there on the pages. I really liked getting to see her work through her past, it wasn't even something very emotional while I was reading but looking back at the subtle differences in her character from the begging to the end gives me all the feels.
Thorn brought all the sexy to this book and I just about licked my Kindle trying to get a taste. I adored how Alpha and growly (If it's not already, I'm making that a word) he was with Ari; it made mylady parts *ah hem, I mean heart go all pitter patter. But looking past the heat that surrounded him, he was also a very real character. The parts where he laid his feeling out there were just brilliant and really connected me to his character.
On to the part of the review I don't like writing, I do have to mention that this book was almost a 3 Star for me. I had a few issues with the lack of description when it came to the settings of this book. It just seemed like there were a few scenes that, for me, needed a better explanation of where exactly they were taking place. It didn't overly bother me in regards to the whole book but there were a few times that I even had to go back and re-read just to make sure I didn't miss exactly what was going on.
Overall, I thought this was a great start to a new series and I already can't wait to get more of the secondary characters we met. The story was intriguing, a little suspenseful, and so sexy it will have your Kindle going up in flames.

A powerful love story!! ❤️❤️

Unconscious Hearts is a wonderful start to the brand new Hearts of Vegas series by Harper Sloan. This book had me seriously hooked from the very first word. I don’t think this author could ever write a book I won’t fall irrevocably in love with at the drop of a hat.
This is an emotional, sexy and fast-paced read with a strong story line to back up the solid characters. Loved Ari and Thorn ! They are such wonderful characters both on their own and definitely together. Ari is an awesome and vibrant heroine. Strong, open, honest and willing to take risks without crumbling at the first hint of drama. I adored her.
"Didn’t know I was waiting for her to come into my life at the time, but fuck did she make it worth the wait. She owns me. Completely. Just like I own her. I don’t need my résumé of broken relationships to tell me what I already know. That what I have with Ari is as real as it gets. I know what stains mark her past. With her, what you see is what you get. No games. No bullshit. No lies and manipulations."
Thorn, is the typical swoon-worthy bossy alpha who also allowed himself to be vulnerable with Ari. Harper Sloan writes some amazing male characters. They are strong, dominant for sure, but with so much heart. Sure they make stupid and definite male decisions sometimes but like any true Alpha, they think they are doing it in the best interest of the girl they love. And Thorn is no different.
“You ran, but Ari, I wouldn’t have stopped chasing you. Not after that. Not ever.”
I enjoyed their magnetic connection and how equally matched this couple was for each other. Both fighting their own demons but both reaching for that one person who will understand them best and help them heal. The chemistry between them was so explosive, I expected my kindle to combust!
This story is a beautiful journey into healing, acceptance and forgiveness and I loved every second of it. Harper Sloan set up a promising series by giving us a great first book, and some fabulous secondary characters I’m dying to read about in the coming books. The epilogue was spot on with the additional After the HEA bonus. I couldn’t be happier! Overall rating : 4.5 Stars.

This is how you write a book.
You will be drawn in by the chemistry between the characters from the get-go. As their journey progresses, you won’t be a able to look away. They’re relatable. Strong. And seriously sexy!
The plot is consuming, with enough angst to keep you flipping the pages. You will feel like you’re a part of this world. You’ll be invested in the alpha males, strong heroines, and lovable secondary characters and their happiness.
A fantastic story from Harper Sloan. Just don’t start it unless you have enough time to finish it—you won’t be able to put it down!

DNF at 30%
I know I shouldn’t rate a book if I only read the first third but this is a special case.
Meet Ari, the heroine who’s your typical born again virgin:
(from h’s best friend)
“Mr. Tall, Dark, and Handsome has awakened my best friend from her long nap of celibacy and disinterest in men. Where’s my phone? I need to record this moment.”
Meet Thorn, the handy dandy fuck trumpet that’s also a stripper/whore:
“Babe, usually doesn’t take me this long to get a woman to fall at my feet, so don’t beat yourself up for taking you this long.”
And we also got the woe-is-me inner monologues from the heroine over how broken she is so she sits off in a corner and stays celibate for seven years.
But don’t forget her annoying as fuck BFFFFFFFF Piper who choses to stay in an emotionally abusive relationship for 15 years while pretending to be a sexually obnoxious fairy godmother to the h.
Does this story sound familiar to you? Because I’m pretty damn sure I’ve read this over 50 times.
So fucking over this. Ugh

Holy hell that was hot! This is my 2nd book by Harper Sloan and WOW I was just blown away by this book.
Unconscious Hearts is the story of Thorn Daniels, a smoking hot alpha male owner of a strip club and Ari Daniels, a savvy business owner of gently used high end fashion items. The many layers to this story... the intrigue, the mystery, the pasts of both of the hero and heroine and the love that emitted from the pages really speaks to the raw talent of the author to captivate the reader and suck them into the first book in this new Hearts of Vegas series... I am literally DYING for book 2!
Thorn and Ari are thrown into each other's paths one night when she sees him kissing another woman at a bar... but their eyes meet during this kiss and it's damn freaking HOT and unforgettable! Fate brings him into her store to sell stuff he inherited from his grandmother and what starts as a contract to buy his items for her store turns into more when he has thirty seconds to get her to want more. And OMG I desperately wanted her to want more... especially after that scene *fans self*
What makes Ari different for this known manwhore is her almost innocence and ability to be real and honest with him and to prove to him that he is more than just the money she could make from selling his high-end things... despite her broken and sad past... and when you find out about this past... WOW... just heartbreaking! But this strong man who has never shown any feelings toward anyone or anything before, opens up in ways that will make readers just fall in love with every part of him... not just his body... or his tattoos... but his good heart and the man that he is behind the fear of his past.
All of this mixed with Thorn's broody, alpha male presence made this book unputdownable... I literally DEVOURED it in a couple of sittings. There is some mystery sprinkled in that when it all is revealed I was shocked and surprised because I didn't see it coming. I loved most especially the scenes watching the characters seek help for things in their past... to grow and overcome, to be better versions of themselves. They never gave up, they always wanted what was best for themselves and each other and I just loved reading the care that went into their own mental health.
There were some things that I thought were a bit too fast... where I wanted a bit more but overall Thorn's patience and Ari's good heart and their friends and loved ones made this a series that is a must read for me and I can't wait for more. I just loved every moment I was immersed in this story!
Readers who love sexy, panty-melting heat combined with a great story and unforgettable characters look no further than Unconscious Hearts!

4 'Future of beauty' Stars!

I’ve been a fan of Harper Sloan since I read her first book in the Corps Security series so, as you can imagine, I am always excited when there is news on a new series by hers. I was definitely curious about the Hearts of Vegas series because Harper said she had this story on her head for the longest time. And now I can say, I am oh-so-curious to get to know more about all the characters she presented!
So, Unconscious Hearts is the first installment of the Hearts of Vegas series and it’s a sexy, thrilling and with some suspense contemporary romance. This love story is focused on Paris ‘Ari’ Daniels, a successful businesswoman who is still grieving the loss of her parents and all the consequences that came with it, and Thorn Evans, the man that will change everything for her after having a steamy one night stand. Thorn also is a very mysterious man who hides many difficult bits from his past. Both these people are not in a good place to have a relationship but after their instant connection that night, Thorn will do everything in his power to get Ari. And that is the start of this captivating love story!
“Day by day, Ari. Give me that, and I promise, no matter how long we’re meant to explore this, I’ll do everything to make sure you don’t feel pain.”
I really love Harper Sloan’s writing and how she always introduces new and fantastic characters on her series. I am surely interested on all we can get about these characters but now let’s focus on Ari and Thorn’s love story. I do have to say it took me a while to connect with this couple. The introduction felt rushed to me as well as their one night stand. Also the story felt a little bit slow at the start. However, that changed completely by half of the novel to me because.. Holy mother, things get interesting! The novel got emotional, it got super suspenseful and, of course, (let’s not forget) sexy AF! I loved getting to know everything about Ari and Thorn’s past, I love how they connected because of it and how they always put the love they feel for each other first. I loved the surprises towards the end and that super cute and sexy bonus ending!
My heart wasn’t unconscious anymore.

Now it was beating for everything.
Therefore, I am rating Unconscious Hearts with 4 STARS because I found it a good start to Harper’s new series. I loved all these characters and, even though at the start it felt a bit slow, I definitely connected with Ari and Thorn’s stories. I loved them together and how they build a beautiful family. And, as I said, I am so curious about Piper and Wilder and I do hope London gets a story too! So, if you are a Harper Sloan fan, you have to check out her newest release, for sure!

4.5 ‘Beating for each other’ Stars
OH MY HEART…. This book is pure romance GOLD!!!
Unconscious Hearts may very well be Harper Sloan’s best work to date. The heart pounding emotional charge, the unmeasurably SCORCHING sexy times, an ALPHA to the max hero and, a sassy and sweet as can be heroine that thinks herself broken, proved to be the winning formula in every way, because from the very first line, I couldn’t. PUT. IT. DOWN!!!
I may be broken, but I’m not shattered.
You saw him. He practically has ‘I can make you forget everything you ever knew and love it’ seeping from his skin. A man that lethal can do a lot of damage.
Lets just say that the circumstances where Thorn and Ari saw each other for the first time were very particular, and maybe the reason it took me a while to warm up to him and his bit on the crass side way of mentioning women, besides Ari and her friends/family.
After it is revealed how Thorn was ALL about Ari from that very first look, and how obsessed he was with just that brief eye connection from across the room, make me swoon and fall in love with him on the spot.
Something so simple as seeing a beautiful stranger across the room had hit me right in the chest and changed my life … starting the wheels in motion to heal hers and, fuck, probably mine too.
Ari has been (not) living so many years now with guilt, fear and pain of loss that she considers herself meant to be forever alone. For more than seven years, Piper, her best friend has been her only supporting rock, and she refuses to let anyone near her.
That is, until Fate brings Thorn, the man she shared that heated connection on the bar some weeks prior, right to her doorstep, or should I say store?! 😉
Mind and body.
All-consuming.
Overwhelming.
Full-bodied.
Their chemistry is OFF THE CHARTS! So much so that none of them is able to deny it when in close proximity, they are just that drawn and affected by the other. I absolutely adored the maturity and realism of all characters. Harper Sloan truly did a masterful work when creating Thorn and Ari. Complex but yet so relatable, bringing up in us all the emotions they go through as couple and as individual, it’s fantastic to feel.
Not only the emotional heavy moments are the ones giving us all the feelings. The sexiness and sizzling hot scenes between this two, were award worthy! This man and his deliciously dirty mouth in all in Alpha gloriousness were a true thing of beauty…

OH MY HEART…. This book is pure romance GOLD!!!
Unconscious Hearts may very well be Harper Sloan’s best work to date. The heart pounding emotional charge, the unmeasurably SCORCHING sexy times, an ALPHA to the max hero and, a sassy and sweet as can be heroine that thinks herself broken, proved to be the winning formula in every way, because from the very first line, I couldn’t. PUT. IT. DOWN!!!
I may be broken, but I’m not shattered.
You saw him. He practically has ‘I can make you forget everything you ever knew and love it’ seeping from his skin. A man that lethal can do a lot of damage.
Lets just say that the circumstances where Thorn and Ari saw each other for the first time were very particular, and maybe the reason it took me a while to warm up to him and his bit on the crass side way of mentioning women, besides Ari and her friends/family.
After it is revealed how Thorn was ALL about Ari from that very first look, and how obsessed he was with just that brief eye connection from across the room, make me swoon and fall in love with him on the spot.

Unconscious Hearts, the first book in a brand new series from Harper Sloan reminded me exactly why I love this woman's writing!! This book was the perfect combination of angsty, sexy, and suspense!
Of course a strong female character could not be far behind. Ari Daniels is fierce and feisty. She's inherited her mother's shop and her love for fashion, which in turn brings a strapping, brooding alpha into her life. But Ari continues to suffer from old wounds that you gradually see heal thanks to one certain man.

Harper Sloan has proven time and again her ability to write the perfect romance novel. Unconscious Hearts made me swoon in unexpected ways. I went into the book thinking it would be another run of the mill, dirty romance, that takes place in Sin City, but it wasn't. It's a beautifully powerful love story about two people with painful pasts who find unexpected love with one another. Thorn and Ari together made me swoon. They gave me butterflies that stayed in my stomach from their first meeting all the way until the last page. They also made me FEEL, which is something I find lacking in many romances today. I truly loved this story, and I love Harper Sloan for once again, making my heart flutter. This is a gorgeous story with a little bit of a twist, and is downright compelling. I highly recommend it to all romance fans.
The only thing missing from this story was the feeling of Vegas. It's pretty clear that Harper knows how to write perfectly flawed characters who are not only likable but realistic, but I felt the setting was lacking in this one (hence why I gave it an actual rating of 4.75). This story could have taken place anywhere in the world as far as I'm concerned because there was nothing Vegas about it. When I think of Vegas, I think bright lights, gambling, lots of drinking, and staying up until the wee hours of the morning. None of this was a part of the story. Frankly, I'm okay with that because the romance was top notch and I didn't need a descriptive setting to love the book, but some people want to feel where it takes place and it lacks in this book.
With that, this is the first book in the Hearts of Vegas series and can stand alone. I am very much looking forward to the next book (which will be Piper's story- an interconnected character) and am anxiously awaiting it's release (crosses fingers that it comes sometime soon).

2.5 Stars. I really debated on whether to round up to 3 stars or down to 2. I wanted to love this book. I’ve read every Harper Sloan book. Loved some, liked some. But this one just went past the point of me being able to enjoy it. Here are the things I liked - the new world and characters for this series were interesting and entertaining. I wanted to know them.
Here are the things that didn’t work for me - the biggest was the “evil” POV chapters. It was just so ridiculous and over the top that I couldn’t stop rolling my eyes every time it came to those. Just, no. Another was if a person was calling and harassing you for years (but you’re not speaking to them), you would just block the damn number, file for restraining orders, file harassment charges. Something. The heroine “accidentally” taking a call from this person on their own phone that she normally “lets go to voicemail” is ludicrous. Last I think, as much as it pains me to say bc I have truly loved some of this author’s books, her writing style may just not work for me anymore. The grunting and “babe” and attempt at super “alpha”ness. It’s just not for me anymore and somehow just didn’t feel authentic for me. A lot of people will love this book but it didn’t work for me and although I liked the side characters I think I’ll skip this series.

First off. I love the characters names. Ari and Thorn. I mean, come on. Total sexy on both ends.
It’s hard to give a review on a book that’s written flawlessly. These characters are perfect together, yet, they come a little frayed and tattered.
Such an amazing addition to Harper’s fantastic collection of masterpieces.
I smiled, cried, might have squirmed from the sexy in this book.

I am so unbelievably giddy. I went to bed last night thinking about Thorn Evans, and woke up this morning with the biggest smile on my face. I'm can't-stop-won't-stop thinking about this book. This book, that in my opinion is Harper's best work yet. And that is saying a lot because come on, how is that possible with everything else she's written? Oh, but it is, it so is.
Ari and Thorn, oh my they made my heart go pitter patter. They took me on such a ride and had me holding on when those twisty turns came to play. Ari and Thorn were two characters with undeniable chemistry. It was clear from the start it was inevitable they'd give into what they were both feeling. And when that happened, dear lord it was everything and more. But things from both of their pasts, especially Ari's would surface and make them fight extra hard to hold on to what they have and not let those things ultimately win in the end.
THORN! EVANS! Let me count the ways and then some. My freaking gosh I can't, seriously, I can't even put into words what he did to me. From the type of man he is and what he's lived through, he's so caring and sweet and the way he loves is unlike anything. And yeah, I like he's sweet, but when he's in control and gives his alpha side, watch out because he'll own you. Oh boy did I crave that and more. It's no surprise that Thorn Evans is my new favorite.
Unconscious Hearts is a beautiful story with two souls needing to find their other half in order to be complete. It had just the right amount of angst that'll have you turning the page in record time to see what was going to happen next. It also had secondary characters that I needed to know more about and hope they get their own book. I guarantee as soon as you start reading you're not going to want to put this book down. So be prepared to fall hard for this new world Harper has created and hold on, because as soon as you start, you're not going to want it to end.

It's the vulnerable behind the bluster... the way this man holds himself back because he's seen so much and hurt that much more. He captivates from the moment he steps onto the pages and before I could turn those pages, he had my heart and to this day hasn't let go.
Ari Daniels has had her share of heartbreak. Her past is filled with tragedy. One single act of betrayal changes her world. She is at a place in her life where she seems to be simply surviving instead of truly living. What i do not like about this book:
1. Lack of chemistry between the characters.
2. On first chapters, Ari describing Piper, her best friend. Makes me hesitate who is the main character in this book.
3. There is no real plot/ drama.
What i like:
1. Thorn. He is hot. Hot alpha male. He talks dirty. Which is huge bonus point.
2. The steamy sex is off the roof.

I can't believe I am going to say this but....Unconscious Hearts is now my FAVORITE book by Harper!!!

I was needing an alpha male hero and Thorn delivered! Loved the romance in this one! It was definitely sexy and very emotional. I thought this book was longer than it had to be and I felt like I read through a ton of uneccesary scenes but overall very enjoyable.

Thorn is my new book boyfriend!!
This book is my new favorite by Harper Sloan.
I didn’t think anyone could take Axel’s place.
Thorn Evans is one sexy, protective and demanding Alpha male and he’s mine!!
Ari Daniels is a strong heroine after everything she went trough.
Both Ari and Thorn has demons from their past and their chemistry was of the charts.
Thorn wanted Ari and made a bet with her but he didn’t count that he would be the one losing his heart.
Thorn Evans is the owner of a strip club called “The Alibi” (love that name) and a former stripper himself (gah that is so hot) and his best friend is Wilder and is the owner of a bar called “Barcode” (lots of awesome names in this book)
Ari Daniels is the owner of “Trend” a high end Consignment store where she spent most of her time with her best friend Piper.
Love, angst and suspense and surprise are in this book a true page turner.
Can’t wait to read the next book in this series.

DNF!!
This was my first book by Harper Sloan and I could not finish it. Ive heard nothing but great things about this author so I was excited to jump in when given the oppourtunity to review.
I understand the obsession others have with her writing cause I really enjoyed what I read in the beginning. I even went on tell others that I was obsessed and would probably eat this book up in a day and one click all of her other books and have a binge fest. Sadly, that did not happen.
What went wrong?
The author tried to be creative and introduce a third POV "unknown creepy character" and it messed up the flow of the story for me. I was literally confused when it happened and decided to put the book down since I was not happy about it. Fast forward three days later and I cant for the life of me pick it back up.
I cant believe im quitting on this book but I just CANT do it! Im not one to "DNF" a book but sometimes you just have to do it for your own sanity. Im so heartbroken that this new element in the story destroyed it all for me. *Sobs*
But her writing is fantastic and I will definitely be checking out her other books in the future. Harper Sloan just took a risk that didnt pay off with this reader and from the looks of it im definitely in the minority.

Ari Daniels runs a successful trendy consignment shop with her best friend, but otherwise her life is empty. Due to events in her past she has been living in limbo. She is crippled by her own fear, guilt, pain, loneliness, and is afraid to get close to anyone else. She can't move forward, and cannot forget the past.
She was not expecting Thorn Evans to walk into her shop or bust into her life. He's a burly, broody, cocky, sexy-as-sin man that might be just as broken and locked down as she is. His past also haunts him and makes him feel unworthy of a real relationship.
Both are damaged, lonely, guarded, and have their hearts locked up tight. But the instant chemistry and pull between them is hard to deny. But it is also terrifying to begin to actually feel something more than numb. She won't make it too easy on him. They have plenty of challenges. They both have to face their demons and bare their souls to begin their own healing process before they can entertain having more.
Maybe it's fate, maybe it's pure luck, but they find a connection they both have been lacking and never really knew what it could feel like. They fill a void and bring each other back to life. Their hearts are starting to beat again. They are finally finding hope and feeling again.
But sometimes the past does not stay there, and their personal battles may not be over. Will they be able to stand together and have each other's backs or will their pasts continue to destroy any chance at happiness?
This is an emotional, intense, steamy love story with some darker elements in the background. They have complex back stories that are gradually revealed. There is some mystery, angst, and twists. But there is also humor and banter that keep it from becoming too dark. I liked that there were time jumps so it happened on a more realistic timeline. It is told in dual points of view and I loved getting into their heads, especially Thorn's. It is a bit of a Beauty and the Beast story where Thorn thinks he is more of a beast. But I absolutely adored him! He was bossy, dirty-mouthed, intimidating, and impulsive, but he was also attentive, protective, and sure of his own wants. He really could give good woo! Ari was more fragile, but also showed growth and resilience. And she was a fun match up for him as she challenged and pushed him, but also accepted and supported him. They both needed someone who could see into the deepest recesses of their empty hearts and fill them up with desire, love, and acceptance. But their lives have always been challenging and not everything can be controlled.
I really liked her friend, Piper, and his friend, Wilder. They are really important to Ari and Thorn and are a significant part of the story. I am excited to read more about them. There are other side characters adding some drama and depth. Even the cats had crazy personalities. The Vegas background and their unique businesses made it more interesting. This is a great start for this new Hearts of Vegas series, and I am looking forward to the other stories that were hinted at. And I loved that she gave us epilogues too.

I went into this book not feeling so good about it. Thorn was way rough around the edges and a total man ho. There were 2 situations that didn't sit well with me. The first time they see each other and what he does to win a bet with her. Stripper books are not my go to anyways. About 30% in Thorn did a change. A total 360. I was definitely sucked right into the book just with Harper's writing. But my Husband did tell me that I sighed in a negative way for the first hour. Then some extra details were revealed and I felt a lot better about those 2 situations. And Thorn felt remorse over the past that he led. And he did flip out on a chick who tried to flirt with him. That I did appreciate in a big way. Thorn knew what he wanted and that he would never hurt Ari. and that twist..... wow.... did not see that coming. I am so glad I got to read this book. And the setup for another book..or 2..and of course Ari also helped Thorn through his pain.

NAILED IT! Harper freakin' nailed this story. I loved it. The characters had me so hooked and completely submerged in their own individual stories that I couldn't get enough. The chemistry was super intense from the moment their eyes met! I LOVED IT!
Harper proved yet again why she is a must read author for me. Her characters are the perfect mix of sassy heroine and alpha male bossy. I mean what's not to love!?!?!?! This was a fantastic read and I can't wait for the next couple in the series. I bet they will be just as awesome!

With the first book in the Hearts of Vegas Series, Harper Sloan gives us an unforgettable story, infusing a scorching hot romance and gut-wrenching emotions into a storyline packed with drama and suspense. Thorn is an alpha male to his core, and while sometimes, his actions and behavior is over the top, there are reasons behind his overbearing and arrogant ways. He brings Ari back to life; he helps her to heal…to see herself as the beautiful person that she is. He gives her back her life…her desire…her confidence, and each and every day, Thorn proves just how special she is to him and how she can count on his love and his devotion to her.
I loved witnessing Ari and Thorn’s journey - one that began with an instant attraction and a 30 second bet that categorically changed both of their lives for the better. The insights readers receive as Ari and Thorn define and redefine their relationship allows us to understand what’s at stake for both of them and why they’re willing to take a risk with each other when they’ve never wanted to in the past. The things that this couple must encounter are not easy, but the fact that they hold steadfast to one another speaks to what they’re building and how everything is different now that they’ve found each other, which makes the fact that they’re fighters all the more important for what they’re confronted with through Unconscious Hearts.
I can’t write a review of this book without mentioning the secondary characters and their influence and effect on Ari and Thorn. Ari’s best friend, Piper, and Wilder, a man who has been by Thorn’s side since they were young play pivotal roles in Ari and Thorn’s lives. These two people are instrumental in forcing their best friends to face their pasts in order to see and understand that their futures don’t have to be anything like their lives have been, and it’s Piper’s constancy at Ari’s side…Piper’s ability to be honest with her long-time friend and push Ari to confront her heartbreak and stop using it as a crutch to remain in neutral when it comes to moving forward and finally living again.
Unconscious Hearts is told from both Ari and Thorn’s perspectives, so readers get their backstories, their truths, their honest feelings firsthand, which is necessary in order to understand the choices these two have made and what seems to be holding them back from love and from life.
I can’t wait for book two in Harper Sloan’s Las Vegas Hearts series, and I’m hoping that Piper and Wilder’s story is up next because those two have been dancing around each other since their first encounter, and while I know there are obstacles standing in their way, they both deserve happiness, which I think they can find in one another!
