Have Mercy

Mercy...
My world shattered when my father died. The last thing I wanted was to live with my mother and stepfather. My eighteenth birthday was only one week away though. I was forced to tough it out.
I was used to my mother being a bitch but her husband was ten times worse.
He was an asshole.
He was the enemy.
He pissed me off around every corner. So how did I end up fucking him against the wall on my eighteenth birthday?

Dame...
Coming home to find my wife’s teenage daughter sleeping on my couch was the last thing I wanted to see. She was a brat with a bad attitude. I couldn’t imaging being around her another second. So waiting a week for her to turn eighteen would be torture.
She was annoying.
She was a hell spawn.
She defied me every chance she got. So how did I end up deep inside of her and begging for Mercy every chance I got?

Well, shït. I must say, the beginning wasn't promising at all. I was reading and thinking "what the hell am I reading?" and "I should just quit. Ok, just a little bit, let's see if it gets better". Thank f@ck it got better.
So, the beginning wasn't promising: Mercy was a drug user, stole money from her "boyfriend", was aggressive, vulgar, and seriously messed up.
Dame was worse. A good man he was not. He was a dirty cop. A bit violent. Hated Mercy for no other reason than because he didn't like teenagers (so he said) and because his wife (Mercy's mother) hated her.
At least Mercy had good reason for hating him. He was an @sshole to her from the first moment they met. He treated her like garbage.
So, that was the bad.
But let's go to the good.
On her 18th birthday things change. It's like all the previous hate was just foreplay or something. Probably sexual tension that neither of them wanted to acknowledge, not even to themselves. Anyway, after some event I'm not going to mention not to spoil it for you, they get home and have sex against a wall. And then some the next morning. And then.. well.. you get it.
And then they both start to change. For the better, thank God. I start to even like Dame. I know, I know. Right? That surprised me too. But seriously, he's still a dirty cop and shït, but the way he's with Mercy... it's beautiful. So, I ended up liking him. Sort of. Well, I liked him with Mercy. And Mercy quit smoking and sniffing coke. And calmed the f@ck down a little too. Love really suited them, seriously. They were even cute, even sweet together. HE was sweet with Mercy.
Mercy's mother was seriously f@cked up. It's not even clear why she hated her daughter so much. Being a rebel little girl is not reason enough to hate your daughter. It's probably that she isn't able to love anyone except herself. And shouldn't have been a mother at all, as Dame said.
Damn.. looks like I wrote a poem, not a review. I'm gonna finish this here.
You go grab your copy. Just be ready for a f@ck ton of emotions. You'll want to quit. Multiple times. You'll hate Dame. You'll want to kick him in the balls. But I'm telling you, do not give up. Keep reading. It's worth it.

Ok. So this book held some taboo promise. It started out decent. But quickly took a downward spiral. Kind of cheesy. BUT it does hold some promise if you want a quick taboo smutty read. It wasn’t awful. I wanted to give it 3 Stars. EXCEPT IT DIDNT HAVE PAGE NUMBERS?! What in the everloving hell would possess someone to NOT PUT PAGE NUMBERS?! I can’t refer anyone to any part of the book. Ugh. I need page numbers. Lol

I read this book within twenty four hours and I wish I could reread it for the first time already. I've read the mixed reviews on this and I understand why some would feel an aversion for these characters. They are definitely fucked up to the max.

But the thing was: I fucking loved them! One thing I can say with absolute certainty is that James knows how to write steamy sex. I mean, I was like...*panting, sweating, is it getting hot in here, yanking on my collar*

I knew going into this that this wasn't a conventional romance, and James delivered on all accounts. It was forbidden and so sexy. I didn't mind that the characters were so flawed in their own ways. I actually liked them more for it. I wish the book could have been longer, just because I'm a horny bitch and these two...I honestly can't say enough praise for it. I wanted something nice and steamy and I definitely got it in this book.

I thought the book was nicely paced. Things progressed quickly, but they weren't rushed, not in my opinion. Dame was definitely rough around the edges, but I loved that about him. He was unapologetically himself, in fact they both were, and I found that refreshing.

One thing I loved was that Mercy was tatted and pierced and such a bad little bitch. As someone with a tongue piercing, I loved to read about a character that actually has one and uses it in great ways *wink wink*. So that racked up a lot of good points from me.

Like I said, this book promises an unconventional romance, and yeah, I can see where people are blanched by the characters, but to me they were a perfect blend of pent up sexual aggression and fucked-upness. Except for Mercy's mother. I hated that bitch. I would have liked to get more background on why they had the relationship they had, but I'm not too butt hurt about it.

I recommend this for someone with no qualms about reading morally compromised characters who have no shame and don't care about changing. It's perfectly paced, forbidden, gripping, and out of this world sexy.

I've read James before, and I know for a fact that I will read more from her.

🚫 N O T A 🚫

So I’ll write a little review and maybe come back and update it

This is a banned book and was on my list to read. To be honest I’m not sure why it’s banned?
Mercy is a week away from turning 17 when her dad dies and she’s force to go with her mum and stepdad(if you can call him that)she’s never meet him and her mum is a royal biatch who hates her daughter. On the day of her birthday dame(stepdad) sleeps with Mercy which I’m sure is the taboo part only I’m pretty sure it’s not that taboo dame isn’t In love with mercy’s mum never was.
On that note the book overall was good well written and I didn’t dnf it which is a good sign.
Dame is hot as hell and has a hell of a mouth on him
Once he sleeps with mercy he’s all jp straight away
Gets her pregnant to!!
I mean 100% isn’t a bad book I liked it just could of been more to it to make it hit that banned mark

Oh my, how naughty! If you are looking for a taboo treat, this Bad Boy, Step-Daddy novella is scorching hot! Mercy was a smart mouth, strong, independent chick who needed a little crew of her own that she could trust. It was too bad that losers seemed to populate her life. After some tragic events, one week before her eighteenth birthday she was sent to her evil mother and wicked stepfather. I thought stepmothers were supposed to be wicked? But Dame wasn’t wicked in the get the hell away from me way...he’s wicked in the come closer and bend me over way. You have to read this! If you like the bad boys, Dame will have you cuffed to this book waiting on his next order.

Me gustó. ✨

2,5/5⭐

This was my first book by this author and purchased due to the fact amazon had banned it! I love a controversial book!

The storyline was well planned out and executed extremely well, I felt an instant connection with Mercy - the main character - and had so much empathy for her that I rolled with things as they came up and even began hope that she would get what she wanted.

I read this book in just under an hour as I couldn’t put it down!

I will now be checking out other titles this author has published for sure!

Wow! For a quick read ‘Have Mercy’ packs quite the punch. Think: unrepentant, hot blooded alpha vs a take no prisoners, mouthy vixen. It is a stepdad/ stepdaughter romance. Been there, read that. Danielle James knocks this trope on the head. She avoids the cliché of the angsty stepdad. At times, the departure from the norm felt almost porn like. In fairness, this wasn’t a bad thing. Dame and Mercy could burn down a house with their passion!

Read this if you like forbidden and/or taboo romances.

Read this if you need a book to help you get into your power pose.

Not safe or safe with exception. They weren’t together yet and absolutely hated each other’s guts but he comes home that first night to her on the couch then fucks the mom. Then he gets a BJ from another woman the next morning(he was cheating on the Mom) but that’s the last he’s with anyone else. Typical taboo read with a Bonnie and Clyde thing going on but an enjoyable, short read! Definitely dirty😈

It was alright. Nice quick smutty read. The characters had almost no redeeming qualities. The situations between Dame and Mercy were hot but the execution lacked a certain...I guess skill with words? It was more porn by the numbers as opposed to erotica. The plot was lacking and just felt disjointed and arbitrary--gave me soap opera vibes 🙄A lot of showing not telling. It was hot but I've read way better. I didn't hate it 🤷🏾‍♀️

It started off promising and it even made me cry. The heroine was okay and I didn't like the characters at all. The hero was a straight up asshole. I have to like at least some of the characters to keep reading. Might flip to the end to see how it ended though.

No estuvo mal.
