Sera's Curse #1

Bane of Dragons

Rate this book
I'm surrounded by dragons, and they're all afraid of me.

At the age of nine, I mistakenly touched someone else, giving him excruciating pain. Through that awful experience, I found out that a graze of my fingertips could torment any being with dragon blood. Because I was surrounded by them in my kingdom, my ability labelled me as cursed. And with that, my family lost everything.

I promised myself to never be shunned away again. That I had to be someone important for people to look up to. A crucial vote was coming up and I would do anything to win it. Then I met them. Four hidrae princes, dragon-shifters of the most powerful kind, who were immune to my abilities. Being able to touch someone else was intoxicating. Associating with them was killing my chances of winning the vote, but the princes drew me in—Rylan with his regal demeanor, Micah with his mystery, Kael who threw all care to the winds... and Gaius? Gaius should just fall on his face and die.

Don't miss this slow-burn reverse harem romance, set in a world of fantasy, dragons and intrigue!

I think the extraordinarily good weather in this country has unbalanced my mind

At 55% I was so taken with the lighthearted feel good romance I likened it to Trickery

Then of course it all went downhill.

Willa knight it is not but I still really enjoyed this. The MC wasn't annoying (until the end at least) and the dragons were fun and there was a good bit of thought put into the world building.

Yes it had all the RH tropes you could think of
brothers - check
super special heroine- check
instalove - check
damaged background - check
editing errors and inconsistencies - check

but strangely they weren't as annoying as you might think. Until the author went and wrecked it at the end but I shall overlook that

must be the sunstroke

It put a smile on my face so I call that a success

Rating : 3.5 stars?

Bane of Dragons was quite uneven. Sometimes it was great, sometimes not so much.

1. I loved all the drama. Some might find that annoying but I thought it was well done and with lots of feels.
2. Sera was an interesting character but sometimes could get really whiny and weak. But she had great moments.
3. It was hard to follow the characters because they tended to change their mind rather abruptly, sometimes making menthink scenes were missing.
4. Secondary characters were either odious or completely useless, sometimes both at the same time.
5. It was not exactly instalove but the feelings did come quickly. However they were really cute together once they stopped pushing each other away.
6. I'm not very curious about how the romance will evolve but I really want to see Sera grow up into a leader and learn more of her curse.

Thank you Clara Hartley for providing me this arc.

*massive spoilers ahead*

Oh man.....seems I got an streak of bad luck lately with my books. They always start promising and they go downhill pretty fast.
Same here.
Sera was strange and too forgiving in my opinion. Because how everyone treated her was horrible ( even partially the heros). And then she was obssessed to stay in the palace and work for the council to support her family. I couldn't understand that. Ok she wanted her guys but surely the rest of the lot could die for all she cares. They treated her like a monster. Her colleagues were ignorant, dumb losers. Her family was a greedy, manipulating bunch of assholes. There was not one soul worth rescuing...but ok whatever.
The 4 Princes startet out to be pretty cool. But they left her without blinking didn't care that she just lost everything and maybe dies....but hey they have to protect their royal reputation blablabla. I found them disgusting in that moment and when they came back she just accepted them and could even understand why they did it.....uh what?
And most of all what made me so mad was that nobody got what he deserves. There was no satisfying ass kicking a la Karma. Sera was even happy for her rival Mei who won the election....HAPPY and GRATEFUL?? WTF the bitch and her buddy Vancel are the ones who starter your nightmare to begin with. For such people you are not happy... No, you punch them in the nose! But it's ok for Sera because she is so happy.......uh what?
The mother of the heros aka the queen tries to poison Sera, because she wants her sons to visit more often and feels a little bit abondand. The heros agree to go shopping with her and promise her to visit her more often .....uh whaaat??
5 minutes after learning the queen tried to poison her, tried to have her killed again and almost starting a fight between the heros and the soldiers of the queen....they stand together and exchange polite conversation.....uh whaaat?

And we got zero information about her curse or if they are mates and what's everyones f****** Problem is

I really enjoyed this one! It's a great start to a new RH Fantasy series and I have high hopes for the sequels! The world building was awesome and I loved all the different kinds of dragons! And of course I loved Sera and her princes not going to lie I know we aren't supposed to pick favorites but I really love Micah! I can’t wait for book 2 and I sure hope we get some steam in the next one!

*I received a free copy of this book which I voluntarily chose to write an honest review for.

Book one in the brand new Sera's Curse series and what an interesting start it is too. We get to meet Sera who does have a power that is seen as a curse. She is shunned in her hometown so when she gets a chance to better herself she jumps at the opportunity. This leads her to the four dragons princes where fireworks fly when her curse does not work on them. Whispers have already started when her secret is exposed and the race to pretty much safe her life ensues. i have to say there is some good world building going on here with all the dragon types and the societal hierarchy stuff. Each prince drew me in with their different personalities and thoughts. The interactions had me giggling and I am really looking forward to where this story may be heading since a secret is still hidden I just know it. If you enjoy a great paranormal reverse harem romance novel with dragons none the less then I highly recommend this book to you. I really enjoyed it so I give it 4/5 stars.

I found the way that Sera and princes ended up interacting and living with each other rather contrived and unbelievable. A curiosity about a personal curse from a junior council employee didn't usually give people the right to confront a royal prince at will? Even if she disagreed with royal edicts, why did she feel it was appropriate to argue with the king in public? She seemed to often have her common sense completely missing and charged ahead with whatever she felt like and ignored any consequences.

Writing-wise, I found the dialogue was very stilted and the overuse of puns for humor often ill-timed and not that funny. I enjoyed the world-building and the society, but when the dragon princes were revealed to be 100+ years old to Sara's 19 years, I expected more mature behavior rather than teenage sulking and pranking all the time. Even the queen acted like a spoiled brat when confronting the princes at the end of the book.

While I'm not a vegan, I thought the way that soul magic worked with the blasé sacrifice of small mammals and plants to be a bit off-putting. They were okay with killing a bunch of rabbits so they could put on some illusions for fun? eesh. I felt similarly about the fat-shaming and weight-related comments that Sera occasionally expressed - they were quite unnecessary. Who cared if you ate a little more dessert than usual or what the shape of your butt looked like in a dress?

The story was extremely fast-paced in action and relationships, and I wished that it had slowed down a bit for some proper character exposition. Overall, I am not a big fan of the immature main characters and how fickle everyone ended up as for something that was supposed to be fated mates and "in love" rather than just pure lust. The princes dropped their support for Sera quite quickly under pressure before changing their mind again just a few days later.

In conclusion, I was rather meh about the book and was curious enough to finish it, but I have no interest in reading the rest of the series even if we still had no idea why Sera had this curse or how it worked by the end of the book.

#1 Bane of Dragons ★★★☆☆
#2 Curse of Dragons ★★☆☆☆

GLORIOUS MOTHERFLIPPIN' DRAGON REVERSE HAREM! I watch quite a bit of anime and have grown to enjoy the Harem / Reverse Harem genres for the most part (it can be reeeaallly bad), so I went into this read with different expectations; it's a kinky niche after all, and as such should be treated along a slightly different set of rules.

*** Side Note: Beware of spoilers.

I had never read a RH book and the premise was enticing, and I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of the story and worldbuilding - it's not just a book with random poorly executed filler content in between steamy scenes, IT HAS SUBSTANCE. It's definitely a slow burn, since there's not much more than suggestive innuendos and kissing thus far, but I remain hopeful that this will lead up to some SUPER STEAMY DRAGON RIDING.

I'm not going to get into the whole story because you can more or less get a general feel of it from the book description, but eventually Sera meets the four hidrae princes and they fall in lust. They are the only people who have ever been immune to Sera's curse, and they want to study her. Instead of pain, they felt...something else, and thinking that they were feeling a mate bond they wondered if she was fated to be mated to ALL OF THEM.

Apparently, they shared a woman before and so established that they were used to being Poly. She acts shy, but she's actually TOTALLY INTO THIS. THEY'RE SEXY. THEY'RE FUN. SHE. CAN. NOT. RESIST. Oh no, fire resistant she is not. They have flaming hot bods and the faces of devilish angels, and they all want her. She loves all of their unique personalities and can't choose between them...so...why not choose all of them?

Now, I had some issues with a few things. The relationships between her and the princes are so shaky and unstable it was kinda...eh at times.

Sera is constantly trying to earn her place, she's hardworking and ambitious. She voices her concerns to the princes that being seen together will give her a bad reputation because it will look like favoritism, and they respond that they don't really care because as royalty, they can do as they please and no one can touch them. Okay, I mean, they're not really wrong, but that's kind of an asshole thing to do, not caring about how they are affecting her because of difference in status. At this point she's just some interesting plaything.

In the course of a week, she moves in with them and they all fall in love with her. I mean, eh, but THIS IS A SEXY FANTASY OKAY?! Her curse is revealed in public, however, and the king tells the eldest brother that they are not to be associated with Sera any longer, and they all just drop her without really blinking an eye and cast her out. They went from supposedly not caring what people thought of them, to caring about that above all.

UMMMMM?!?

So apparently they're entitled self-centered pricks who feel that they don't need to offer her the same respect that they expect from her and can void their promises at the drop of a hat. They literally abandoned her to save their images. That's not love. She of course, forgives them later after she "proves herself" publicly to the king, and is deemed "worthy". So apparently her self-respect is now non-existent. This broke my suspension of belief pretty solidly. I mean, I dunno, I didn't forgive them, hell fucking no. You can't just say things, make very important promises, mess with someone's life in A REALLY BIG WAY, and then act like it doesn't matter. To me that's unforgivable. People who can so callously play with and ruin other people's lives like that really get to me.

Plus, when their mother just outrightly says she was the assassin who poisoned Sera, the princes didn't even really care. They were surprised and then were like, oh you did this because we don't spend enough time with you, we promise we'll take you out shopping soon. I mean.....????? Sera almost died and they just let it slide by like it was nothing but spoiled behavior. It just seemed like the first half of the book was so good, and then it dwindles down and becomes ridiculous and inconsistent, and the characters acted more juvenile.

I almost considered not continuing with the series, but I liked it enough overall that I'm willing to continue to the next book and see how the character growth turns out. Essentially, there were parts of this book I REALLY LIKED and others I REALLY DISLIKED. If it was established that this was just a lust thing, it wouldn't bother me as much because it would make sense, but it's established that they legitimately are all in love so... The way they acted didn't suggest that they were in love, in my opinion. Who knows, maybe it was a huge lack in judgement and they're all just spineless morons. Character growth, my friends, let's hope it happens. I can see some hints of it so I'm hopeful.

Other than that, Sera is a FAT SHAMER. This in itself made me like her a whole lot less and is another reason why I considered dropping the series, because that kind of message is toxic and unnecessary. Throughout the book she makes comments about her weight, and on her coworkers weight and lifestyle choices, to the point where it was less in a concerned way and more in a backhanded narrow-minded judgemental way. Sera, it's okay to be curvy. EAT THOSE WAFFLES, SERA, IT'S OKAY! What's not okay is to shame someone because they're fat, because other people's health is none of your concern unless they specifically ask it of you. I didn't expect that someone who is fighting off judgement 24/7 would be slinging it around like that, but here we are.

Who knows, maybe everyone will realize "Hey, wow, I'm an asshole, better stop that I guess" and mend their careless ways. I'm invested enough in the story that I'd like to see where this all goes. If you like dragons, magic, romance, and reverse harems - consider giving it a read!

A very human Sera (unlike her sister who’s a drerkyn), waits for the results to possibly leave behind a life she isn’t happy about and to enter the Council of Intelligence. Cera isn’t as entirely human as she thinks, with constantly having to ensure that she doesn’t accidentally touch someone because of her cursed skin.
Lucky for her she’s chosen and she’ll begin a new life on the palace grounds, which will bring her closer to the Princes Rylan, Gaius, Kael and Micah and possible the end of her curse...

This is the first book in the Sera’s Curse series. As mentioned as a note in the book, the story is loosely related to the world in the Soul of Dragon series, but you can read this with or without reading the series.

The writing was really bad y’all!
And it had probably some of the worst dialogue I’ve ever read. Most of these dragons were hundreds of years old and they still acted like children. It was pretty cringe.
There was just no good flow. The dialogue was weird and staccato and almost like I don’t know how to explain it. It was just really hard to read. And it was almost spoken robot like if that makes any sense.
There was no real soul to the story. Didn’t really have any depth, and it was definitely the slowest of slow burns ever.

The series starts out rough with this book but greatly improves by the end of the series. I will say that there are lots of little grammatical errors throughout the series.

The book has several little things that bugged me. The FMC is 19 and the youngest man in the harem is over 100 years old. There is an huge gap in power, age, experiences, resources, etc. There are some plot points that are as subtle as a dead fish to the face.

If you can get through this book the remaining books steadily improve. The last book was really good.

Pleasantly surprised by this book. I love the boys their characters compliment each other each different. FMC though I like her backbone I feel like we are missing how important she is. The fact that they still haven’t even started finding out what her curse means or why she has this connection is slightly irritating but at the same time understandable with what’s going on. I feel like she is something major and it’s frustrating that finding this out has fallen in the list of priorities. The opposition on all sides makes for a great read but I wanted her to come out more badass and on top. Definitely interesting enough to continue to the next book.

3.5 Not Bad Stars

It was good, but again, as with the last similarly themed book I read the later part of the book wasn't as good as the former.

The overarching storyline was a little predictable for me but my main issue was Sera's reaction to the guys , cause I'd have spittin' feathers!

The world building was however nicely done and although there were some grammatical errors and some of the secondary characters could have been more fleshed out, the story itself, or rather Sera's plight was engaging.

***SPOILERS***

They say Sera is cursed. Anyone who touches Sera's bare skin suffers unimaginable pain. As a result, her family has dropped to the lowest rung of the social ladder. This only serves to motivate Sera, who studies hard to become elected to the Council of Intelligence. There she serves for years keeping her curse a secret. Then one day, she accidentally touches one of Kingdom's four Princes. They are immune to her touch. When she explains her curse to them, they decide they need to spend more time with her to get the bottom of it. In the meantime, the Kingdom's crops are suffering from a high summer, and fear of hunger is raising tensions. The King allows the use of formerly banned soul magic to solve the problem, which Sera and the princes have a propensity for. Sera's ultimate goal is to win the vote to become the Secretary of the Council of Intelligence. Sera's proximity to the Princes increases her popularity. To prevent Sera's winning of the vote, one of her competitors ruins her reputation by uncovering Sera's curse for all of the council and royal family to see. The King banishes Sera and her princes do not fight to save her. Sera negotiates with the King to allow her a week to fix the problem with the crops and be reinstated to the council. Eventually her princes come back to her to help. Together, Sera and her princes come up with a spell to create a crop that is heat resistant. True to his word, the King allows Sera back on the council but she loses the vote for Secretary. Her princes move Sera back into their quarters and they pick up where they left off before her curse was revealed to all.

Sera is independent, ambitious, and has a strong work ethic. Sera has earned (the hard way) every single thing she has ever achieved. This is why I couldn't believe Sera forgave all of her princes for giving up on her so quickly and easily. Sera never takes the easy route and I didn't expect her to be so accepting of those who do. Had her reaction been different, the Author would have hit it out of the ballpark for me. That is the only thing dragging this book down to four stars.

I loved it!!
It’s a romantic comedy (of sorts) with a little bit of sadness with poor Sera when everything was going awful for her, but hilariously funny with the banter between the princes.
It’s my first Reverse Harem story and I would recommend this book to any romantic comedy lovers.

Spoilers

In kind of all over with this book. It was well written but it also had a lot of errors such as missing or extra words and in one chapter there is an entire paragraph that I believe is supposed to be the ending of the chapter before it. So definitely the book needs some editing. It wasn't so bad that it made reading it difficult.
The book is about a girl with a curse that makes heritable to touch Dragon kind. She is shunned at how and is able to study hard and leave to go to an intelligence counsel where she has worked hard for 3 years. Just after she is elected to run for a secretary spot she meets one of the princess w/o touches her without any ill effects. This sets off a chain of events that eventually has her living w the 4 Dragon princes. A big issue I had here was how easily she let the disruption happen and how quickly everything just WAS. There's of course 1 Prince who rebels against liking her while all the others think she is the sun. He eventually and easily completely changed his entire demeanor to be with her (I found this to be ridiculous and a total trope). Eventually the counsel finds out she's been hiding this curse and everyone turns against her except her gay friend who thinks the prince's are great. 1 by 1 the prince's come to their senses and come back to her when they realize they don't care about their reputation or the kings decree that they stay away from her. Apparently there is no backlash because she and they figure out a way to invent a new sex that is impervious to heat.
So much of this just followed a basic storyline that I was let down. It was too typical and I could easily see where it would all go. On the other hand I finished the whole book and it was easy reading. I'm not sure I'm read another book just because I already know exactly what will happen just without the details and that's no fun.
She is your typical heroine who is shy and embarrassed they want to get sex but no sex happens. No cussing either.

This book was amazing!!!! I was fortunate enough to receive an ARC from the author, but fellow readers don’t let that kid yourself. I’d made up my mind to leave a completely honest review and let me begin. This novel she come with a warning label ⚠️ ! When I say this book took me on an emotional roller coaster. I laughed out loud 😂. I cried genuine tears and I connected to the female main character on a level that I rarely do in novels. Será dealing with her curse and the shunning she’d experienced from her family and community. I mean there’s something innately human about that. The fact that she felt the need to hid herself from everyone I could relate. Considering the fact that everyone has flaws about themselves that they don’t like. She was a human in a world of dragons but somehow the author managed to make her humanity bleed across the pages. And her determination? It was unparalleled. She never gave up, and if that isn’t something you can stand behind I don’t know what is.

With the reverse harem romantic drama rapidly increasing and popularity there have been a lot of different takes on the situation. I think this story has one my favorite romantic storylines thus far. There’s a realism there, and considering that they’re relationship is developing i feel like I genuinely get to see it happen. I was enamored with all the princes from the very beginning. I love the world that Ms. Hartley created and I genuinely can not wait for the next. This is one of those stories that I think even should read. The best part being that there is no cliffhanger. This book is worth every single gold star.

4 stars not sure about the quality report so ignore it

I was wary downloading a book with the poor quality alert below it on Amazon. Once I started reading however that label should NOT be on this book. There are a few places where there were some added or removed parts that didn’t jive with what was happening on page. This particular one I highlighted and will share via my goodreads review. But in this instance Micah was walking Sera out and then suddenly we have a dialogue with Tidyall or how you spell her name. The next chapter comes and we are back with Micah like we were supposed to so I assume that section isn’t meant to be there. There are some minor errors like missing connecting and important words like, a, an, the. But nothing that detracted substantially to the book. I’ve read books via KU that have had WAYYYYY more errors that totally deserve the quality report issue because they have a lot more wrong. This isn’t it.

The book is fast paced, well written, has the emotional gut punches I’m looking for and even though it’s sort of a medium/fast burn since the guys are already all showing interest I feel the pacing is fantastic and that is doesn’t feel like the amount of time that has passed is so short, it feels much longer which makes the emotional impact great despite it being not as long as I normally think a book should be for this emotional impact.

I like Sera, I dislike how Sera’s family treats her or how the council treats her. I look forward to finding out what happens though.

This ebded up being a great story. I was worried at first because it has 4 brothers that are Hidrae Princes. It went in a completely different direction and I ended up really liking it.
Sera knew she was cursed at the age of 9. Her touch caused unbelievable pain. She hated her curse and was destined to wear gloves to prevent accidental touches. Sera's homelife was awful and she longed for more. She was involved in the intelligence council and running for the council secretary position. She had managed to get a position away from home and started a steady life until she met the 4 Hidrae Princes. They were handsome but very different mannerisms. Sera thought she would win until someone sabotaged her and revealed her curse. Then Sera was known as an outcast. Stripped of her position and was being removed from the castle. That's when the princes stepped up. Sera was their fated mate and they were desperate to help her. As long as she was with them they would be content. Then the king gave her one more chance to redeem herself knowing she would fail. At first there was Sera & Micah working on spells and seeds. Slowly but surely the others showed up except one. Thats when the work began. Their journey to get what they all wanted would not be easy. They would have failure after failure but together they would get through it.
Tthe book contained a lot of humor which was good. The characters were well developed and the story had a nice flow to it.

Review copy kindly provided by the author in exchange for a honest review
Dragons OH MY!

I have only read a few dragon based stories over the years. Don’t know why when I love books like this one. Fantasy is one of my favourite genres and Hartley offering was intriguing. I loved the whole world that was built in front of my eyes that was addicting and heartbreaking at the same time. Our heroine is a got getter with a secret.
Sera have been cursed and her life has been control by this situation. It’s hard watching this young woman grow up and now face a life where she has to carefully control this secret or destroy everything she come to love. After years of pain and heart
Sera as a result have never felt certain things that a lot take for guarantee. Especially love, you can’t help wanting to share your own feelings with her. To wrap her in the love and admiration you have. She maybe from an alternative world gifted in a number of ways yet she feels so human. A flaw in a world that is control by dragons and anyone looks to them.
The combination of realism and fantasy works well, as we learn the truth of Sera and her curse and how she is connected to the royal princes who hope she holds answers to questions. Work well together. I love how each brother each has a distinct role in this story and how they work together. It work wells given how they have to play second fiddle to Sera , who faces a lot in this novel Hartley’s first RH is a treat that I couldn’t get enough of . Whilst not on my radar prior to this book, Harley easily won me over with her endearing hero and playful and serious heroes. If dragons and/or magic is your thing, definitely give this a go . Hartley definitely given her first forte in RH a hot go and has delivered an fantasy novel that I could easily re-read forever.

This book was interesting and unique. It had captured my attention immediately and held it throughout.

Sera is cursed for reasons unknown by causing extreme pain to any dragonkind that happens to touch her bare skin. She’s been ostracized since she was 9 years old, causing her own family to be less than loving to her because of the curse and them being unwelcome as well. Sera, fortunately, is a very smart girl and gifted with brains enough to win her a place in the kingdom as a scholar. Unfortunately, being too smart earned her enemies that want her place.
The princes seem to be the only ones that are able to touch her at all. Soul mates seem to have disappeared but at the same time it seems as if these princes and Sera are definitely soul mates.

This story made me cry. I also hated parts of it. Not because of bad writing or a poor story. But because all Sera has to put up with because of her curse. And because of the Prince’s reactions to public opinion. I will never forgive them for this even though Sera did easily. Too easily in my opinion.
We are left with Sera getting her job back after proving herself capable of solving a widespread problem using magic but she is still shunned. We will have to see how it plays out in the next book.

I received this story as an ARC and provide my review willingly

Sera is cursed and her family is "outcast" because of this. So Sera tries her hardest to prove that she's something not just a curse. She manages to escape her town and reputation because she's very intelligent. Then three years later, a dragon touches her, and nothing happens. Things go downhill/uphill from there.

This was my first book from this author. It was good. There were mistakes here and there that were blatantly wrong but it didn't distract me away from the story which is good! Update: she fixed those! yay!
Grammar/Mistakes: 4.5/5

The story itself is fascinating. The author has created a very well thought out world that drew me in.
World building: 5/5

Characters:
Sera- Herione. She drived me crazy half of the book! In a good and horrible way. I understand that she has issues but sometimes you just want to sit down the girl and have a therapy session. I don't really like characters that feel like they have to prove themselves. But I would love to see her grow as a character and maybe be more confident when it comes to those issues that she has.
Micah- The outcast within his family. Gosh, I love him.
Rylan- Next in line for the throne. Sweet, put way to much on his shoulders.
Gaius- Closed off, blunt. You really start to hate him but know that you'll end up loving him anyways so it's pointless.
Kael- The playboy. Best warrior too (of course)

At times the relationship between these characters seemed off. But things are happening that you can't really explain and hopefully will be *spoilers* for the next book?

Storyline: I'm intrigued enough to continue with this series. 3.5/5

Cover: 5/5 I love the cover.

Overall: 4/5 Good job Clara!

I received an ARC copy in exchange for an honest review.

I really liked this first book of Sera's Curse, The ARC I read had a few grammatical mistakes which i'm sure have been corrected for the release but they didn't take away from the story at all, the plot was interesting and kept you entertained wanting to know how it will all turn out. The MC was smart and knew what she wanted in life even the neglect she suffered growing up didn't deter her, she wasn't a cardboard character she knew she had faults and tried to learn from them, hopefully we see her grow more in the next book. The guys all had unique personalities so you could tell who was who. The only thing that bothered me in the book without leaving any spoilers was her quickness to forgive a certain character. I can't wait for the next book in the series to see where the story goes from here.( hopefully with a bit more steam! ) So If you like fantasy and slow burn RH definetely give this a try!

Lovely story.

Supernatural. YA. Rh. 4 Dragon Princess. Soul bond. Intellectual, tenacious, human heroine. Nineteen yr old, Sera has been cursed for ten years. No one of dragon blood can touch her, it will cause them excruciating pain or even drive them mad. With this her and her family is shunned. Her family treats her the same. Sera has a plan, a plan to show everyone she is not the curse. She will get on the Counsil of Intelligence and help with the agricultural problems in their region. Everything slants when one of the 4 princess touch her and isn't effected by her curse. I haven't read the other adult series that is set long before this era. I figure it explains why this books world is in such a state. Otherwise this was a good story. The characters needed a little bit more background but I figure that'll be worked on in the next book. I liked its dystopian feel. The society of dragons and their like were unique. I found this book entertaining.

Spoilers

The idea of the book was great, the follow through was lacking. The moments that they all abandoned her and how she easily let them back in felt anticlimactic. Sera is the main female character and I felt her development was weak. She started weak, won a position on the council, became higher up, went back to being weak again- stayed weak. She gained no true confidence and let the male characters stunt her growth and development by her reliance. There wasn’t as much spice between her and the male characters. It would have been a little more helpful to have the “annex” portion be in the beginning of the book so you could reference it instead of going through the book slightly confused with the authors terminology only to realize there was a mini dictionary at the end that could’ve helped a little. I’m hoping the next book kicks it up a notch and Sera finds a way to “grow a pair”

That was not good.

Sera is one of the blandest heroine I have ever seen.
The 4 princes are cowards.

Lots of things weren't explained so they didn't make sense: I'm still confused on how counselors are chosen. So they study and what? The whole process is skipped by the author. They put non experimented young people in councils who are responsible FOR LITERALLY ALL THE IMPORTANT DECISIONS IN THEIR WORLD. Like make it make sense please. Sera doesn't even know the world and still she is responsible for crops or whatever far away from the capital.

The dialogues and situations were so fucking weird. It's like nothing mattered. The queen admits to have poisoned Sera and few lines later her son tells her they'll go shopping?!
Mei is a royal bitch but in the end Sera is happy for her new position as head of secretary because what? She even knows Mei and Vancel bribed and lied about her.
All the story is like this.

What the fuck was this story to be honest.

I really enjoyed this book! It was a fun read and I was entertained throughout the whole book!

Sera, despite being cursed and having a tough life growing up because of it, is a strong character. She is smart, dependable, observant and good natured.

Even though she is confronted with the four princes intruding in her life and interfering with her plans, she doesn’t back down and stands up for what she wants.

The four princes have their own unique character traits and fit well with her. They complement her individually and as a whole.

I can’t wait to see how their relationship evolves in the next book.

My highlight though in this story is her friend Frederik! I need a Frederik in my life! He is funny and a true friend who always has her back and supports her no matter what!

I can’t wait to read the next book and find out more about Sera’s curse, the vision and why the brothers seem to be immune to it!

I received this book as an ARC in return for an honest review!
