Have you ever had a feeling like something bad was going to happen? What about a gut reaction to someone you had never met? You know what I’m talking about. The times where something just doesn’t feel right so you turn and walk the other way only to find out someone got robbed down the same alley you decided not to turn down. I get that feeling a lot. I thought it was normal, I didn’t know it was a warning. I didn’t know it was there to keep me alive. There’s a lot of things I didn’t know, but what I do…it’s got me scared senseless. Turns out, the Gods are real. Destiny is real. Fate is something that we can’t always control. And me? I’m just a human caught up in a game of the Gods. Except—I’m not. Not really. I’m someone else entirely, according to the three genies who have sworn to protect me. From what? Well to explain that we’re going to have to go way back to Ancient Egypt. A land of monsters and Gods and wars. Where do I fit in? Smack bang in the middle by the looks of it.
This is a full-length novel with adult themes and language.

When I started reading this book, it was really hard for me to put this book down. I knew nothing about Egyptian mythology; having finished the book, I found that I now know a teeny bit more (having googled it). Never knew C.E. was something that people could commit to or even wanted to become a professional at. Suffice it to say, I was hooked plus it being a RH is a added bonus! Having the MCs forgetting who they were, having to remember, and having to accept it, the plot somewhat becomes predictable, but not the events thrown in like the Egyptian mythology. 3 out of the 4 MC's accepted it, believed it, and trying to protect what they're tasked with and 1 MC is having a rough time believing it, it's like the 7 stages of grief basically. However, I do have a problem with the mega cliffhanger ending though. Now, readers have an agonizing long wait for the continuation of book 2 which comes out sometime in August.
*I received and ARC copy in exchange for an honest review*
Let me start by saying I’ve read the majority (if not all) of both these wonderful authors books. So I was excited to find through Kel’s Facebook group that they’d be working on a project together. Tricksters hunt is the first of what I think is going to be a great series. I really liked the Egyptian mythology that was tied into this book, and being probably the first story with djinn I was excited to learn more about them and their story.
The characters in Tricksters Hunt are fun, sassy, and sarcastic which are some traits from their previous works that I loved. I can’t wait to see how the characters continue to develop in the next book and answer the questions that were left from the first. Definitely a great start on a new project for both authors!!
This was pretty good, definitely better than I expected. But, now that it's over, it seems like not all that much happened and it ended on a shitty cliffhanger. The competitive eating thing was interesting and new, I know I've never seen that before. I didn't love Maia but I didn't hate her either, her annoying parts and her funny parts evened themselves out. Same with the three guys, didn't hate them but they seemed to be lacking personality. Honestly, the cat had more personality than the three of them together. He was a nice treat. I'm intrigued enough to keep going, but the next one will need to have more answers, more character development, more action, hopefully more smut…it just needs more.

Great start to this new series! We get to meet Maia a 19-year-old competitive eater that wins a trip to London to enter a competition there. Entering her world gives us some entertaining tidbits as we learn about the world of competitive eating. After she wins the semi-finals she gets to stay for a week where she proceeds to meet three really hot guys who ultimately change her life forever. Add in a crazy cat, some magic, and lots of secrets to get a paranormal reverse harem romance novel that you cannot put down. I highly recommend it to fans of the genre. I really liked it so I give it 4/5 stars.
Fantastic story! I loved the unique storyline and richly written characters. I can't wait for the second book! Could not put this down once I started reading.
Maia’s always thought of herself a a normal girl. Sure, she’s a competitive eater that always seems to be hungry and has always been a person that gets that weird feeling just before something bad happens. But, that’s normal, right? Or maybe not. After winning a week’s stay at a hotel in London, Maia finds she has not one but three breathtakingly handsome men who randomly keep showing up where ever she is . . . and a strange cat that seems to always be underfoot.
But maybe she’s not quite as normal as she thought, as in, maybe she is someone else entirely. And maybe those handsome guys aren’t human at all, but genies sent to protect her from her mortal enemies that happen to be Ancient Egyptian Gods. Oh, and that cat, it can send you it’s thoughts just like it’s talking in your head.
Trickster’s Hunt was a fun start to an exciting new series by Carrie Whitehorne and Kel Carpenter. I found it to be a unique premise with fate and destiny throwing not only Maia, but her protectors for a loop with none of them realizing what’s in store for them until they all meet in London, brought together by the mysterious cat, Lord Peregrine Proudfoot the Third.
Maia is really an interesting character. I love that she’s a competitive eater that weighs only 115 pounds. She’s witty and downright hilarious when interacting with her best friend and flatmate Adam.
Amos, Rhett and Silas find they are connected not only to each other, but also to Maia. They are charming and handsome and all possess qualities that Maia finds attractive. As more details unravel, they swear to protect her from the dangers trying to kill her and eventually find themselves in a land fighting monsters to save their own personal Goddess.
I did find parts of this book to be a bit slow moving while others seems to zip right by. I was also left feeling a bit confused as to what exactly was happening and who all of the players really were as details emerged. I’m hoping that is cleared up more in book two, as Trickster’s Hunt definitely left me wanting to know more of the story and the ancient mystery we only got to glimpse in this book. 4 stars.
I greatly enjoyed this book about a girl who can eat her weight in food and still be hungry and the hot guys that suddenly start appearing around her when she is goes to London for a eating contest.
Maia lives to eat. For some reason her metabolism allows her to easily eat anything put in front of her and eagerly await her next meal. She has turned this talent into employment via eating contests and social media. When she goes to London for the semi-finals she takes her bestie roommate, Adam. As the winner she is awarded a week in the swanky hotel where the contest was held while she awaits the finals. Adam returns to London to work and care for her dog. Alone and mostly bored between meals, she is surprised when a great-looking guy shows her at her door to give her a massage. Then another hot guy talks to her in the restaurant, and a third shows up to swim at the spa when she is in the pool. The three keep showing up at different times and places and she can't figure out why she is so drawn to them. And then there is the cat. Where does he keep coming from?
Little does Maia know that Amos, Silas, and Rhett are just as confused about what is drawing them together as she is. A whole lot of strange things are going to happen to Maia in a week. She better buckle up and hold on.
I got a free copy of this book from the author. My review is voluntary and I am eagerly awaiting the next book in the series.
The Gods are real... Destiny is real... Fate is something that we can’t always control... And something bad is going to happen...
Well, for starters, it was interesting read, for sure. I love Egyptian mythology so to read the authors' take on this story was interesting and enjoyable. I must admit though I did not fall in love with this read - I am hoping the second book will be better than this book.
The writing was great. Great world building. And it was easy to read.
I smiled and laughed and enjoyed myself but this book was not what I thought it would be - I felt it was lacking. But after that ending, I would love to see how the story will progress and how it will be treated.
The heroine had started to get on my nerves (beginning) - always complaining and unpleasant, does not like anything and always complains about it. Though, she had one moment that redeemed herself but generally she is not relatable and I like her to a certain point. I am desperately hoping the next book is much more better than this read.
Full of gods, mystery, djinn, cats, goddesses, evil, attraction, competition, wishes, action and adventure.
Perfect for readers of Egyptian mythology/urban fantasy reverse harem romances.
I love both Kel Carpenter’s and Carrie Whitethorne’s novels. They are two of my favorite authors. It’s no surprise that I was delighted to get my hands on Trickster’s Hunt, Book 1 of their new Three Tricksters series. This book is, quite simply, extremely imaginative and yummy reverse harem romance that is superbly written. It had just what I wanted and was well written and with a great plot and great cast of characters. I frankly adore Maia and love watching her deal with all that happens,be it Djinn, Ancient Egypt or anything else. The yummy guys, Amos, Rhett and Silas (who are so much more than merely guys), and the rest of the cast of characters are uniformly pretty amazing as well. But for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review to my husband from my hospital bed I could go on and on with praises - the book definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that the book is most definitely one to read, it is easy to highly recommend. I’m definitely looking forward to book 2.
Let’s start off by saying I loved Kel Carpenter’s on going to series Queen of the Damned, so even that she is a co-author on this book I readily scooped it up. I have yet to read a book by Carrie Whitethorne, so I figured I would take a chance. I’m being to really love reverse harem books three or more men to one female, what’s not to love?
Maia is a 19-year-old competitive eater that wins a trip to London to enter a competition there. A series of unfortunate events happened near her and she just chalks it up to coincidence. But there are bigger forces at play. Three Egyptian men make her acquaintance at different times throughout the story. When they keep showing up she feels that they are stalking her, but there is more going on here.
The only downfall to this book that I see is I have to brush up on Egyptian mythology and there were some parts that seemed to really drag on. But overall it was a really good book.
** I voluntarily read an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review **
What a great start to a new series, I really liked how you got to know Maia and her traits/quirks before the guys come along as it helps bring things together later on in the book. Maia is a bit sassy, a loner and well hell of fan eater for which she makes her money from by doing eating competitions, Addie is her lovable friend who travels with her to comps and also enjoys getting to partake in all the free travel and hotels she gets for doing her job. Everything is going fine until London then there is 3 hot guys that keep grabbing her attention, a cat that wont leave her alone and some life threatening occurrences. From here in out is is wild ride of revelations, steamy times as well as some surprises and twists you don't see coming.
Trickster’s Hunt is my first book by Carrie Whitethorne but it certainly won’t be my last! It’s a phenomenal start to her Three Tricksters series! Right from the get-go I was hooked, I was so intrigued by this storyline that I ended up reading it in one sitting.
It was a welcome change that this storyline wasn’t as action-packed as other books in this genre, I honestly loved the flow of the storyline. The details, original storyline and chemistry between characters had me sitting on the edge of my seat waiting for answers to all of my questions.
Unfortunately for me this book ended in a cliffhanger so I will have to wait to continue this series. This is a book I would recommend to anyone looking for their next one of a kind read!
I enjoyed the start to this new story. Maia believes she is just a normal human and lives with her best friend. In order to provide for herself she enters eating contests. When she finds herself in London for a contest final and 3 handsome men who keep appearing she doesn't know what to think . The men don't know why they are drawn to her. When she finds out the truth will she believe them? Lots of strange things are happening and she begins to wonder what is real and what isn't. I like Maia's character. She doesn't back done. Her best friend is a fun addition to the story. I am looking forward to the next book.
This book is original. Some other reviews mention that it was slow to start, and I did feel that way, but I don’t think a reader needs to be automatically gratified all the time. I enjoyed getting on board with the main character as she ate her way through the days, and by the end I was definitely excited to see what would happen next. Cheers! Searching for number 2 in the series after posting this. I think it will be even sexier and more revealing than the first.
Decent, if a bit jumbled in places. I loved the British snark and terminology, and Adam is seriously a best friend I want to find. Plus, a competitive eater as the FMC? Oh yes, heck yes. Mind you, she’s only 115lbs, but still, girl likes herself some food.
Went for a 3.5 instead of higher as the narrative doesn’t flow as smoothly as the plot allows, snagging in paragraphs or flattening scenes that should be robust. The emotions are there, but the meanings are scant. Plus, Amos doesn’t stand out just yet - dissolving into the wallpaper. Perhaps book 2?
Supernatural. NA. Rh. 3 Dijnn. Nineteen yr old competitive eater, Maia, is in London for finals. She finds herself getting along with three mysterious guys. After some crazy happenings, guys introduce themselves has Dijnn and they are there to protect her. Telling her that she is being hunted. Turns out this whole thing is more than they know. I really liked Maia's character. She's nineteen but not written that way. There really isn't any drama and she's mature on her decisions, albeit a bit rash a points. I also love the Egyptian vibes. The plot is entertaining and stimulating. Not my favorite story trope but still an enjoyable one. 3.5/5
I enjoyed this. The storyline is original, I am particularly fond of Djinn and their mythology. Maia is an interesting character. What i found most odd though was the complete colloquial language. I'm British so I definitely understood everything but there was phrased I would never actually write down more say outloud. It was interesting, I think I've become too Americanised in my reading choices. I'm interested to see where the storyline goes though!
It’s nice to pick up a book and be as confused as the characters! Following them and meeting the heroine then being even more confused is a good way to realise you’ve read half the book and still don’t have a clue!
Egyptian Godesses, Djinni and a reverse harem. That is quickly becoming a firm favourite .
This was a good book to give you an outlook into Egyptian mythology. I enjoyed the personalities of all the characters they each have something different to offer. It was a little slow starting off but once it picked up it deffintly picked up. Plus there is a cat that reminds me of Cheshire. Good action and great heat. 😉
This was such a good read. I loved the humor and the snarky attitudes. The Male Main characters were clearly defined in personality and the female main character was funny and smart but also able to admit to her own failings. Can't wait for the next one
The drama surrounding Maia and her men is intense and fun at the same time! I loved the unique storyline! I have never read about dijins! Maia is a great Female lead! She is funny, sassy, and she loves to eat!! I was more than happy with this book! I couldn't put it down!!
I liked this alright. Maia would gripe and could be a little overbearing but she didn't let anyone take advantage of her or put up with anyone's crap. I liked she was a competitive eater and she could put away the food. The book kept me entertained but was slow in some places.
I liked this spin on God's and Djinn. It was interesting to see how the MCs found each other and how they respond to one another. I love Adam, he is so saucy! I can't wait to see what happens to Mai and her Djinn , Pip and of course her 'life partner' Adam in book 2!
This Reverse Harem is set in England, and it's written in this annoying slang that made me want to narrate the story in a ridiculous cockney accent. I don't know why, but that made me feel better about the awful writing.
I am constantly searching for new series to fall in love with and have found it in this one. I'm totally obsessed with all things Egyptian and the author's have done a great job in this one. Definitely grabs you, drags you in ,keeps u going, and makes u want more. Well done ladies!😉
I saw this book on a Facebook page I follow.. Clicked on it. Read description and figured I give it a try. I can't wait for second book! Y'all should read this book
