The Gravedigger Series #2

Digging Up the Dead

Rate this book
“Reapers, vampires, and… zombies?” I wasn’t sure just how much more emotional upheaval I was capable of handling. I never knew this would still be an issue after death. I was still coping with the latest trauma, when my best friend, Grace came to me with startling news. Boude, her boyfriend, was missing. Vampire affairs is something I try to avoid, after all, the vampire Rasputin had tried to kill me more than once, and had been the one to take Grace’s eye and disfigure the side of her lovely face. I had a sneaking suspicion he was also the one behind our missing friend. Not one to sit idly by while my friend suffered, I started investigating the inner workings of the Vampire Quarter; a breathtaking and sinister area of the underworld. In the fields of the dead, bodies were disappearing as fast as the other reapers and I could dig them up, and things at the Assignment Hall were profoundly more strange as all of the employees suddenly had fangs. The deeper we kept digging into the bizarre events, a terrifying plot unfolded that could bring down the underworld as we knew it. And when the bodies in the field started clawing their way out of the graves, I realized we were up against something more powerful than we could ever have imagined.

Pros: this is the second book in the series and so far, I'm still hooked! I usually lose interest quickly when it comes to series, but not this one. The intrigue of "are things what they really seem?" haunts my mind, constantly leaving me hungry for more.

Speaking of hungry, new creatures are introduced feeding my appetite, mixing the world with creepy and mythology. I'll be starting book three shortly. Still need to figure out what happened to the earth loves of these dead souls!

Also, I'm a bit obsessed with the Romanov family, which is how I came to know about Rasputin, and even in book one, was humored by that. It's been intriguing to see the old mystic in this new, creative spin.

Cons: I actually can't think of any for this one. My con for the first book doesn't even apply, as there's not as much in this one as there was in that. (Go read my review to know what I'm referring to.)

Conclusion: if you're gunning for a paranormal book with an original take, this is your slice of cake, baby!

This picks up exactly where the last book left off. There is a lot that happens in this book. We find out some things. I can’t understand Soren at all but whatever. Living with a memory sometimes stinks. Rasputin is his normal evil self and shakes up the underground. Boude goes missing, Grace is out of her mind with worry. Siren and Hel find some even ground.

A nice second book in this series. I listened to it on audio and Leesa Lamb did a wonderful job as usual. I look forward to the next.

The plot thickens

The plot thickens from the last book. Hel and her friends find out what Rasputin is up to. No good of course. It involves lost souls, more vampires, and zombies. The sex seems like it was just added to fill up space but the relationships were pretty good. Who knew you could find live in the after life?

Been a while since I read book 2 but was able to pick it up and remember exactly where it left off! I enjoy this series it’s a totally different take on how life in the afterlife is. I kinda wished they made more of the big bars death though. Also separating Hell and Soren hoping they find a way back to each other! I like the idea of Hell covering for Persephone as queen too!

I am enjoying the story line however, the reason I gave only three stars is due to the editing of this book. A more thorough editing is required.

Loved it

I love how this series gets deeper and deeper into mythology as it goes along, making each book more epic than the last

DNF. I liked the universe that the author created but I wasn't a fan of the relationship progression.
