I have always loved a good mystery. From my early years watching Murder She Wrote to more recent shows like Monk, Psych, and my absolute favorite BBC show ever, Sherlock, I have studied what it takes to make an entertaining mystery. I am truly blessed to be able to write and share my own mysteries with you. I hope you enjoy reading them as much as I loved writing them :)

The small, quaint ocean side town of Eden Bay is about to be brought into the present when a developer breaks ground to build a shopping mall and cinema much to the chagrin of the residents there. Alyson is very vocal against this happening to her hometown but her "best" friend Claire who came back from the city to run her grandmother's book store that she inherited was not really against the updating of her town. Claire is the personality opposite of Alyson. BUT while Alyson is on a protest, one of the protestors is killed at the construction site. Alyson and Claire team up to find the killer because they do not like Troy the construction company owner and there are some very strange things attached to the protestor's murder which include a podcast "reporter" who comes to town to talk about the crazy, strange residents of the town and the fact that this is the second murder in this small town. Will this make him famous? Then there is the Vice President of the company that confides in Claire while in a boutique that lots of people hate Troy, the president of the company. So many crazy and strange things happen with a lot of twists and turns and a surprise ending! This book does not disappoint! I received and ARC of this book, but the opinions expressed here are strictly my own.

I missed out on the first book in this series, but having read many of Stacey Alabaster's books I thought that I'd give this one a go. Unfortunately I think that the character descriptions must have all been in the first book, because for a while I didn't have any idea who the characters were or their relationships to each other. The plot is quite clever, and the characters are (eventually) well drawn, unfortunately however I found the dual POV (it written in the first person, alternately from 2 different characters' points of view) very confusing and that it definitely distracted from my reading pleasure. It was an interesting experiment, but just didn't succeed for me.
It will be interesting to see if the future books are written in this style, or if Ms. Alabaster reverts to a more conventional writing style.
I received an advance copy of the book from the publishers, but I have voluntarily written this honest review which is based solely on my own opinions

A Deadly Development, book 2 of Stacey Alabaster's Hang Ten Australian Cozy Series, didn't WOW me.

The characters are not only boring but also seem out of place with their assigned roles. Despite being reminded by the author that Claire and Alyson are/were best friends -- the BFF scenario isn't working for me. Each is critical of the other and they constantly argue.

The dialogue is dry. The characters superficial. The plot simplistic. In other words, the book was really boring. I had to force myself to sit down and finish it.

Stacey Alabaster is a favorite author of mine from the cozy mystery genre so it pains me to say ... thumbs down on this book.

A Deadly Development does not disappoint. It is a fun a crazy mystery that has Alyson and Claire running all over Eden Bay. New construction in a quiet beach town is hotly protested by the citizens. Eden Bay residents loved their town just the way it was, no changes needed. A murder and a dying man add another dimension to the story. Really enjoy this series and hope to read more adventures from Eden Bay.

I really think I'm going to like this series. This is the 2nd edition of our Aussie mystery with Alyson (with a Y) Faulks and Claire E!izabeth Richardson. There's another murder, the 2nd in 2 months, what happened to the cozy little town of Eden Bay. I've never been to Australia, but I think I'd like to visit this quant little town. Ms. Alabaster has really made me feel at home.
I received an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Hard to follow

I really enjoyed the first book in this series but this second book was really hard to follow along. The storyline is written from two perspectives and many times I found myself not being able to remember who was saying what. I enjoy reading this author’s other books so I won’t give up on this series just yet.

Alyson and Claire live completely different lives, but manage to come together to try to find out who killed a protester where a big company is trying to put in a new and mostly unwanted development. Another fun and interesting book in this new series.

Great book

I love these quick reads, ideal when you have limited time and need to relax the mind. A new mall is being built that will take away the ocean view, a murder and a poisoning.

Alyson and Claire are enjoying their new found friendship. A large company wants to build a large project in the quiet seaside village. Everyone starts protesting. As usual another great story. Enjoyable.

Nice *bite sized* cozy mystery set in a coastal town in Australia where the surfing is good and the residents are not in favor of the development of malls. Pleasant read in a series with well developed characters.

Somewhat Let Down

For some reason, I did not enjoy reading this story as much as others written by Stacey Alabaster. Oh well, better luck next time.
