Out of the friend zone and into the fire...

Garrett

Beck’s been my best friend since we were toddlers—she’s like a sister to me, or at least that’s what I’ve always thought. Beck is family, and it’s my job to make sure she’s safe and happy.

But lately when I look at Beck, family’s not what I see. I see someone who makes my pulse race and my body sit up and take notice. I see a woman.

And then we get drunk on a birthday trip, and one thing leads to another …

I don’t know what’s waking up in bed with my best friend, or knowing that, no matter what, we can’t do this again. But I have a feeling I’m about to find out.

Beck

Garrett’s been my best friend for as long as I can remember—the next thing to family. Add to that the fact that his relationships last for a few months at best, and he’s the absolute worst boyfriend candidate around.

So why did I just wake up in bed with him?

Garrett says it was just a drunken mistake, and we should go on the way we have been—BFFs and nothing more. And he’s right; we can’t do this again. Our friendship is more important than what we just did.

Isn’t it?

Never tell a woman the word “big mistake” after having a passionate night, because in that case the woman’s world will start to crumble. Indeed this represents the main plot of this enjoyable book. Best friends since forever and a one night stand treated by the male character as a big mistake but it is actually a complete misunderstanding because Garrett and Beck are unaware of being in love with one another. They are used to being best friends, so when they end up in bed and have one of the best nights of their life, it will be difficult the next day, even to utter words. It may seem to both that things will get back to normal but this event has been imprinted in them and it’s very hard to forget. I loved reading this book so much firstly because beyond the misunderstanding, the characters are perfectly matched. Garrett has been so overprotective of Beck because she overcame cancer when she was young so he thinks that he has betrayed her trust. On the contrary Beck has been drooling over Garrett for so long but she doesn’t have the courage to tell him her feelings. They are indeed an odd couple and they will drive everyone crazy, also involving their parents in this self destructive situation but they will get over it with minimal emotional damage. A sweet and quick read with a wonderful happy ending.

Rebecca (Beck) and Garrett have been best friends since early childhood. Because of Beck's childhood leukaemia everyone around her feels extra protective, but Beck is almost 22 now.

During a birthday weekend with their close friends Brianna and Levi, both Beck and Garrett get drunk and have a very hot one-night-stand. The next morning Garrett wakes up first and utters the words 'big mistake' after which everything goes down the drain. Beck is not sure it is a big mistake, but both want to save their friendship. Garrett doesn't know how to explain his feelings and things go from bad to worse. Can their friendship be saved? Will both admit to their feelings?

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Yes, it was sometimes frustrating as their communication seemed really bad (after such a long long friendship) but I thought both characters likeable and was rooting for them. It was a very satisfying read!

Rebecca and Garrett have been best friends their whole lives, they spend so much together and have no secrets. Garrett has his fair share of women, but his relationships never last longer than 4-6 weeks. Rebecca was really sick as a child and has always been protected by her family and Garrett’s, he sees her as his younger sister!!

When her boyfriend breaks up with her, she is heartbroken, so Garrett, Bri and Lexi take her to Boston for a weekend to celebrate her birthday. They have a lovely evening, until Becks gets drunk and starts flirting with a man! Garrett takes her back to the hotel and one thing leads to another. When morning comes, Garrett says it was a big mistake and Becks reluctantly agrees. They head back home, but things are not the same between the two of them.

Garrett makes a huge mistake and Becks just cannot forgive him, things have gone too far, she is truly heartbroken and although things start to work our in her life, she is miserable. Garrett is determined to make things right, but can he do it, can he persuade Becks to forgive him and can they both get what they really want!

This ho-hum rating is all my fault. I really like Tessa Blake as an author, but didn't remember why this wasn't on my tbr list. So, when I saw it on KU, I grabbed it. NOW I remember why it wasn't on my tbr list. I don't like either the young adult or the friends to lovers tropes. Our couple may be just over ya, they are both in grad school, but they have known each other forever and are best friends. These books give me hives because of the angst. Why do best friends suddenly forget how to communicate if they sleep together? I do not find that kind of story entertaining. My eyes get sore from rolling.

Tessa, I still like your writing. Mr. Wrong and The Billionaire's Contract were awesome! Big Mistake was written well and had a happy ending. Hey! I made it all the way to the end! But for me, because I don't like the trope, it was a "big mistake."

For those who like these tropes, you will love Big Mistake. Give it a chance.

This is a sweet, fun, quick read that is a friends to lovers themed romance. Rebecca and Garrett have been best friends since they were kids with neither one realizing that what the had as adults was a different kind of love. Throw in some typical male misunderstanding, one female who is tired of being wrapped in bubble wrap and two terrific best friends and you have an entertaining read that will leave you cheering for this happily ever after.

I voluntarily read an advanced reader copy provided to me by the author.

Wasn't necessarily a big fan of the heroine, Beck. The two lifelong BFFs share a drunk night. The next day both panic, both mutually agree it was a mistake, yet Garrett's the bad guy. She ignores him, she can't figure out what she wants or doesn't want. But he's still the bad guy and both her parents and his parents get involved and tell him how disappointed they are. She tells him they are no longer friends and wants nothing to do with him. She seemed immature, he made a stupid mistake but nothing worth cutting him from her life.

No Mistakes Between Friends!

I loved this quick and fun read! Tessa always knows how to bring readers characters that frustrate the heck out of us, but their hearts are in the right place, so you can't help but love them anyway! 😍😂😂 Garrett and Rebecca (Becks) have been best friends since forever, but one night of celebration turns into a night of passion neither one can ever forget--no matter how hard they try. Crossing the lines the way they did scares the hell out of these two friends, so they put forth an effort to set things back to the way it was before. Lawd, these two made me want to smack their heads together! Garrett is clueless, Becks is stubborn as all get out, but this story was just too adorable for me to give up on these two best friends. And their parents are no joke! I actually felt sorry for poor Garrett! The best friends are a hoot!😂😂 I love the way Levi and Bri don't mind giving Becks and Garrett the "what for!" This was an awesome collaboration for Laney and Tessa! Kudos to you ladies!✊🏾👏🏾😍😍

Garrett and Becca's story is heart hugging friends to lovers romance full of life's ups and downs- especially when everyone else thinks they know whats best for you..

This witty, with a side of sass tale, takes place in a suburb of Portland. Garret best friend extraordinaire has made it his life goal to take care of Becca- protect her- having been super close since they were kids they have been through a lot together, including illness. Grown and ready to move up and onward, the B.F.F status doesn't seem like quite enough anymore.
So when the alcohol is flowing, those feelings become harder to hide from one another. Let the emotional warfare begin.

With so much love to be had, this sweet heat, fast-moving festival of feels was an enjoyable, well developed, character-driven pursuit of happiness one sitting read! Tessa Blake and Laney Powell made a dynamic duo!
I would love to see what else they would write together!

What if the biggest mistake of your life turns out to be the best thing you ever did?

Big Mistake was everything I want out of a best friends romance. The initial hookup between Beck and Garrett is something that can so easily happen (drunk!) and the painful conversation that follows the next morning puts them on a course that neither of them really wants to be on. I seriously wanted to slap Garrett so many times for being so completely oblivious to not only how Beck was responding to him, but to his own feelings!

Big Mistake was the perfect way to spend a rainy afternoon. I loved these characters, and hope that their friends, Levi and Bri, get a story of their own one day! I recived an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review for Sunny Shelly Reads book blog.

Becks and Garrett are best friends who have helped each other through every up and down of their lives and he considers himself her protector. A few drinks too many and they wind up in bed together with Garrett claiming it was a big mistake.

Trying to maneuver their relationship back to what it is was is proving more difficult than they expected so they must decide if they are meant to be friends, lovers or neither.

Not only are Becks and Garrett great but the authors made you feel like you knew their friends and families as well. I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.

Garrett and Rebecca are friends to lovers

A "big mistake", but was it really? Sometimes it takes the head longer to catch up with the heart. Once again Tessa Blake delivers another enjoyable story.
Beck and Garrett are a couple you want to cheer for right from the start. With just the right amount of support and advice from friends Bri and Levi they start to realize what could be.
This is a fun quick read with sweet sexy times without being overly explicit. Sit back and enjoy.

Such a heartwarming read

This book is all about finding love when you least expect it. The friendship between Beck and Garrett is overshadowed with one night of drunk passion. But was it really because they were drunk or was it time for their true feelings to come out? With beautifully written characters and s storyline that had me hooked from the opening pages this book should not be missed.

This is a friends to lovers story and I liked it. Garrett is a sweet guy but he initially has trouble navigating his relationship with Beck. This story takes you on a wild and often funny ride through their relationship. Will their friendship be ruined by one night of passion? Will they make it as a couple or stay friends? Why don't you pick up the book and find out. I don't think you will be disappointed. I wasn't.

Happy reading

Emotional rollercoaster that leaves you wanting for more at every turn, all the way up until Blake brings it in for the deeply satisfying conclusion. Beck and Garrett shine as two lifelong friends torn apart by a one-night stand, and Bri and Levi—well, if you aren't rooting for them to get their own books by the end of this, you don't know good supporting characters when you see them.

Love this couple!

I love a good friends-to-lovers story, and this one did not disappoint! The characters are three-dimensional with excellent chemistry and no overblown drama. And a great takeaway: marry the one you can laugh with in bed :)

Sexy fun

I was excited for this book as soon as I read an excerpt. It’s fun and witty, some relationship angst, but good feels.
I enjoyed getting to know all the characters.
It was quick paced, fun, sad and romantically charged. Loved it and would definitely recommend.

Garrett is very protective of his best friend Becks (Rebecca) but lately he’s noticed her as a woman.
After a weekend away & getting drunk together have they ruined their friendship?

An enjoyably predictable read of miscommunication and long time friends expanding their relationship to beyond “just friends”. Quirky banter flows throughout this tale, as the dating world is put through it’s paces by people who know but don’t know exactly what seek.

3.5 star read.

This one is a fast, easy read. It’s a best friends to lovers story that has been written many times. Don’t look for anything new or different. The characters are college age and the ending is happy. This is perfect as a quick feel-good read.

I’d actually looked for a Laney Powell book to read having enjoyed two of her Flirt Club offerings. So, I was surprised to find this one that had co-authors, one of which is Powell. The author’s note at the end explains that it is mainly Tessa Blake’s brainchild and that Powell only wrote the first draft and how that came to pass. I like author’s notes like this that explain how the book came in to being and the process that it took to get to the end product that I have just finished reading. It feels like a sneak peek into something that is usually hidden from us, the reader.
I really enjoyed the story it truly grips you. You feel invested in the story right from the beginning, which starts with the middle. You already know the catalyst to the end when you are reading the beginning and getting to know the characters. This does take away a little of the anticipation, but it is the main event, so you are presented with it, so you know what we are working with.
The characters Beck and Garrett and really likeable and you are rooting for them to live happily ever after. Every time he kisses her, you can feel the chemistry between them. You can tell that they have genuine feelings for one another; it’s not just physical.
The book is really well-written and thoroughly enjoyable.
