The only reason I gave this series of book 4*'s instead of 5 is that I found the first book a bit cofusing. There were so many character in it, relating to so many traditional fairy tales that it was hard to keep up with who belonged where and how one was related to another. I was actually thinking about giving up after the first one but I am so glad I didn't, they just got better and better.
After all the introductions the story really kicked in and it was a fabulous story, Cordelia Castel, must have an amazing imagination to come up with this with all the twists and turns.
We start out with Cendrilla who lives with her step-mother and two very spoiled step- sisters, you can see where this one comes from, she is very different from her step-sisters, she is made to do chores etc but suddenly along comes a very rich man, Lord Bluebeard who wants to marry Rilla as she prefers to be known and pays the step-mother twice Rilla's weight in gold (and Rilla is a big girl) the step mother agrees and Rilla is forced into an arranged marriage with this man.
It is well known he is a very violent and angry man and that he has killed his first six wives, he wants Rilla to marry him straight away and to produce 7 fine sons for him. While wandering around the palace she finds the coffins of the peveious six wives in the cellar and plots her escape before the marriage can take place,
She is helped by a badly beaten servant of Lord Bluebeard, Jack, who is wanted for killing a giant when he fell from a beanstalk. Together they make their escape and that is when it all gets good.
They are chased by various creatures, Trolls in the main, and have serveral hairy adventures on the way.
However to find out about these and what happens to them you will of course have to get the books.
I have just ordered books 4-7 so I can find out the rest.

Get this first box set of the “Seven Kingdoms” series and immerse yourself in Cendrilla’s adventures!

In these first three books “The Magestaff”, “The Academy” and “The Witch Hunt”, we follow Cendrilla from the moment she decided to run away from a forced betrothal, to getting enrolled in the Anti-Magic Army and her quest to save a number of women who are accused of being witches and been abducted by villains who want to harvest their magic for their use.

Cordelia Castel has created a unique world, where fairytales come to life, but not the way we used to know. Names and places blend seamlessly to provide the canvas where Cendrilla’s adventures take place, at the same time addressing issues of diversity, stereotypes and cultural understanding, that everyone can identify in our society as well.

Very well written, with witty dialogues and comments as well as well-developed and occasionally complex characters, these stories are action packed and fast paced, with twists and turns that will keep you glued to your e-reader screen.

Engaging

I found this one of those stories that you can't put down. In the first book, I spent some time being confused. This is children's stories we grew up with and my head was having trouble trying to sort them out. I finally gave up and just went along for a very new and very twisted story. I am glad I did. It was so worth letting the weirdness unfold. I really have liked the series. and would recommend with a thumbs up.

Great read. Loved the classical characters intertwined

This has been a very interesting series. I loved the classical fairytale characters interlaced in the story arc.
Kudos on a job well done.

Very interesting

Seemed odd how the author used lots of dairy takes in the book like pinocchio,Jack and the bean stalk. But it got really well in this engaging story. Can't wait to find out who are Cindrilla's true patents. Now to get the rest of the series.

Easy read but enjoyable

An easy read but enjoyable to see how the author ties a whole slew of fairy tales together and makes something new.

I am pretty sure I was not the target audience for this book. I found the characters annoying and shallow. I might have liked it better when I was a teenager.

No for me

I didn't realize this was a book of stories based on fairy tales with a twist. I didn't like the stories not yet magical weird abilities.
