Magic is no longer a game. It's real, it's deadly, it's inescapable, and it is coming for Sage.

Sage Cynwrig knows her way around a pair of twenty-sided dice and has forgotten more spells than you'll ever know, but when her mother is killed by a weapon of magical destruction, fantasy merges into a bizarre version of reality.

Her birthmark morphs into the Tree of Life. Her boss goes full troll; we're talking warts and all. Don't even get her started on the playboy vampire who won't take 'no' for an answer. Oh, and Sage is pretty sure the shadows have come alive, and are stalking her in the darkness.

Worst. Day. Ever!

Just when she thinks things can't get any weirder a supernatural pick-up artist, claiming to work for the A.S.S.E.T. agency, tries to kill her.

They're all after one The Weapon of Magical Destruction.

And Sage is the last living link to it.

Combining elements of Agents of SHIELD with The Magicians and Supernatural, the Agents of A.S.S.E.T. book series is a Supernatural Thriller aimed at readers who enjoy a healthy dose of snarky comedy peppered with pop culture Easter eggs.

Sage's life dramatically changes with the death of her mother and the knowledge of the true work she did. It sets her on a path she did not expect with people she doesn't necessarily trust.

I enjoyed the story and the characters. The author builds your interest and slowly unveils the truth as Sage learns it as well. I liked the suspense and the feeling that you were not sure where it was all going. The other characters are interesting as well and still have many secrets to reveal about themselves. There is no romance but the hint of a connection that may turn into something more if they both open themselves more to it.

I am voluntarily reviewing a copy I received.

I loved this unique and thrilling story. When Sage’s mother is killed she knew her life would never be the same again but she had no idea just how drastically it would change. By nature of a heritage she was totally unaware of, Sage is reluctantly drawn into the hidden and often volatile world of policing the supernaturals she had previously thought only existed in the games she played with her friends. I really enjoyed this fresh take on a world where paranormals are hidden in plain sight. Sage is a great character, she is strong, adaptable, a bit naive (but then who wouldn’t be when you find your world is suddenly not how you thought it was) and you can’t help but want more from life for her. The action, intrigue, secrets, twists and characters in this story are great. I enjoyed how feasible the hidden world seemed and the banter between Grey and Sage is excellent. Grey is an intriguing character, he is strong, moody and a bit oppressive, but there are hidden depths to him and I can’t wait to find just what makes him tick. I love Matt, his humour and caring nature endears you to him from the start but you do worry for his safety. There are some great characters in this enjoyable story and I really look forward to seeing how they develop, where the story leads and what other trouble Sage will get into in the next book.

This book pulled me in right from the start. I didn't want to put it down...even to sleep! I loved the characters, especially Matt, Devon and Sage. Gray and Zack were harder to like but grew on me by the end of the book. I loved that Sage didn't just jump right in and trust these people. This series has the potential to be a new favorite for me. I am definitely looking forward to reading the next couple (yes, I already have them lined up to read over the holidays) books. Thank you Ms. Salidas for another great book.

Love the characters! Sage is the perfect name for her. Even though she's a "newbie" she's adapting to each situation fairly quickly. The plot kept me rivited and unwilling to step away even briefly.
This promises to be Katie Salidas best series yet.

I received this book in return for a review.
First I love Katie Salidas writing it seems to flow so effortlessly without the vexing misplaced or missing words that I have found with some Indie authors , nicely edited. Her character building is very good as is her world building. What better place on Earth for a magical story to take place and have all the magical characters so effortlessly fit in with their environment than Las Vegas, NV. There is so much that can happen in this type of setting and so much to explore as an agent of A.S.S.E.T. Sage, the main character, is thrown into the world of magic upon her mothers death but is taken under the wing by A.S.S.E.T., her mother's former employer, that help her understand what is happening. I have loosely described what has taken place. You will have to read the story to find out what happens, magic ensues. You will not be disappointed.

This book was interesting right from the start. Sage's mother dies and she is approached by someone claiming she is immune to the forces of magic and trying to recruit her to an organization she thinks its just a joke. but then she is attacked by something that is definitely not human and she learns that it is all true. while it sounds like the classic nobody to majestic hero story it is most definitely not. Katie Salidas does an amazing job portraying a relatable character struggling to accept her moms death and double life, all the while she is expected to just jump in and fill her mothers position defending the world. I am definitely going to read more in this series- and probably this author!

Everything you know about magic is wrong! It's real, deadly, and inescapable.
Sage Cynwrig knows her way around a pair of twenty-sided dice, and has forgotten more spells than you'll ever know. But when her mother is killed by a weapon of magical destruction (WMD), fantasy merges into a bizarre version of reality.
Her boss goes full troll (warts and all), vampires start hitting on her, and shadowhunters stalk her in the darkness. Just when Sage thinks things can't get any weirder, a supernatural pick-up artist, calling himself an A.S.S.E.T. agent, tries to kill her.
The truth about Sage's lineage comes crashing down around her when her birthmark morphs into the Tree of Life. She is a Terra, part of a race of people meant to stop evil magic like the WMD that killed her mother. Too bad no one bothered to tell her that, or teach her how to use her unique gifts. With a huge target on her head, and the WMD still in enemy hands, Sage must figure out the key to neutralizing it before she becomes its next victim.

A Weapon of Magical Destruction by Katie Salidas is an amazing start to a new paranormal series.
This is an urban fantasy origin story as our heroine slowly awakens to the world around her.
There was some great world building in this story.
The characters have been created so well and I look forward to seeing what comes next for them.
Excellent story line and plot for this series.
Lots of twists and turns with action as well.
Can't wait to read the next instalment in the series.
Recommend reading.

This is not just another zero-to-unexpected-hero story. The author does an excellent job of creating a relatable character (so like the wiseass know-it-all I can be) and describing her struggle to accept her mother's death and legacy, which is particularly difficult since the legacy in question is to immediately take up her mother's responsibilities as a secret agent protecting the world from malicious magic. It probably would have helped if our heroine Sage believed in magic to begin with. Now that Sage has accepted the legacy, let the training (and mayhem!) begin!

Wow, this book is really a breath of fresh air. Exciting & original. I enjoyed reading it. I definitely prefer fantasy or sci-fi stories that take place on Earth, much more homey & realistic, as if life wasn't really all that boring. I would definitely recommend this book.

“Those vampires are the reason my father was killed. He was a victim once.”

Las Vegas author Katie Salidas whose works blend genre styles. She is equally at home with paranormal themes as she is with kinky and naughty romance (though the latter is written using her nom de plume Rozlyn Sparks. Katie is the host of the Indie Youtube Talkshow, Spilling Ink, nerd, Doctor Who fangirl, Las Vegas Native, and SuperMom. She is a USA Today bestselling author.

Katie introduces a new series with a heroine Sage Cynwrig who is so well sculpted that she likely will be around for a full series of books celebrating pop culture, fantasy, and intrigue all mixed well with Katie’s blend of humor. She places an emblem at book’s opening that describes the A.S.S.E.T of the series – ‘The world is full of magical creatures and artifacts. The Anonymous Supernatural Security and Elimination Taskforce is on the front line, maintaining the balance of power, ensuring humans remain safely oblivious to the dangerous magic around them.

The flavor of her writing is evident in the opening lines – ‘“It’s not a tattoo, it’s a birthmark,” Sage insisted as a pair of curious eyes landed on her deformity. The eyes were always first. Then came the questions. A cycle that repeated with every new person she met. Tattoos were cool, but the hideous way her veins splayed out like broken tree branches underneath the pale skin of her wrist was far from beautiful, and definitely not intentional The disfigurement she shared with her mother looked like a toddler had attacked her with a permanent marker. Why did people have to be so nosy? “You going to charge me?” Sage waved her credit card to be swiped, hoping the cabbie might find something else to focus on. Discussing her embarrassing deformity ranked alongside jury duty or paying taxes as far as she was concerned, and yet everyone she met seemed to find it a fascination. Soon as she paid her fare she could be released from the vehicular prison. “You want a receipt?” The driver’s tone held more curiosity than his question deserved. His gaze lingered at her wrist, and she could see the wheels turning in his bald head as the cabbie silently tried to figure out the strange design. “No.” She snatched her card back before he could hold it hostage for interrogation, and exited the cab with her bag.’ And so we are introduced to Sage.

The synopsis whisks us through the plot line - ‘Gamer girl Sage Cynwrig knows her way around a pair of twenty-sided dice, and has forgotten more spells than you'll ever know. But when her mother is killed by a weapon of magical destruction, fantasy merges into a strange new reality. Her birthmark morphs into the Tree of Life, her boss goes full troll (warts and all), vampires start hitting on her, and shadowhunters stalk her in the darkness. Had Sage been warned about her special lineage, before her mother's murder, she might have agreed to join the Anonymous Supernatural Security and Elimination Taskforce (A.S.S.E.T). When agent Grey Maddox shows up to recruit Sage - filling her head with stories of an ancient race of people chosen by the gods and uniquely gifted to withstand the forces of magic - she dismisses him as a fraud. he truth is, bearing the mark of the Tree of Life is like a homing beacon for dark magic. And when a supernatural pick-up artist tries to kill her, Sage learns she's the next target for the weapon of magical destruction's deadly power. Magic is no longer a game. It's real, deadly, and inescapable! If Sage hopes to survive, she'll have find the key to neutralizing the weapon before its power is unleashed again.’

A fine start to a series that will most assuredly find a devoted audience.

After the death of her mother Sage Cynwrig’s life changes for ever. She is thrown into a world of magic with magical creatures and magical weapons. There are fairies, pixies, vampires among others. Sage can’t believe her eyes.

After her mother’s death Sage learns that her mother kept a lot of secrets from her. She finds out that her mother was a part of this magical world and had magical powers of her own that she has passed down to Sage. Her mother’s death is very hard on Sage and she sees her mother everywhere she looks and in everything she sees her mother’s presence is all around her.

Sage is approached by different individuals telling her all about her mother’s world and explaining to Sage who and what she is and what is expected of her now. The Agents of A.S.S.E.T. want Sage to join them but she doesn’t trust them and is not too keen on joining their little club.

I kind of think that one of Sage’s reasons for not joining the Agents of A.S.S.E.T. is because her mother worked there and that would be one more place she would see her mother everywhere. Sage doesn’t believe in this magic hocus pocus stuff so why would she want to work for them.

When Sage is attacked in a dark alley one night things start to change for her and she starts to see things in a different light and decides that maybe she had been a little to jumpy in not joining up with the Agents of A.S.S.E.T. and that joining them may be the only choice she has if she is to stay alive and find out more about what is going on why people are after her.

A Weapon of Magical Destruction is a very intense and magically enthralling read filled with action and suspense on every page that will pull you end from the beginning and won’t let go until the end. I just loved all the characters especially Matt and the fairies and pixies and the things they were capable of doing to stay hidden from the humans. I can’t wait to find out more about these magical beings and to meet more of them. I also can’t wait to get to more about Sage, Matt, Devon, Grey and maybe even Zack. Yeah I would like to more about the vampires and their lives.

A Weapon of Magical Destruction is a fantastic introduction into the world of Agents of A.S.S.E.T. Series. I would definitely recommend A Weapon of Magical Destruction to all fans of magic.

I haven’t found a book by this author that I didn’t like! This one is different from all the others. Sage is a normal 20 something with a mom she adores, a roommate who loves her to pieces and then it all comes crashing down. Her roommate still completely adores her, but when her mother is killed, things happen and life changes because of things Sage never knew existed.
I liked Sage and Matt. Matt may have been my favorite character because of how loyal and caring he was. It didn't matter that Sage couldn’t tell him everything, it mattered that she was safe. I’m still not sure about some of the characters and how I like/dislike them but I’m hoping future books will help me make up my mind. Magic, faries, wars, vampires, this book had it all and mire. I really enjoyed it and cannot wait for the next one.
It was a 5/5 for me and I want more!
Thank you to the author for the review copy of this book. I received this book in exchange for an honest review and the opinions stated above are 100% mine

As I sit here staring at the blinking cursor, not yet recovered from my story hangover, I realize I have no idea what words to use to convey what I just went through with this book. Especially to be more relevant than the insipid “I liked it!” or “it was great!” without giving away the best parts of the story. This book combines all the twists, deceptions, and double-crosses of my favorite political thrillers with all the forces of the unseen of classic fables, fairy tales, and myths, along with complex, quirky characters that run away with the story. One of this author’s great skills is her ability to create a novice heroine who doesn’t have the first clue about anything happening around her, and then allowing us to learn and experience it all with her. That makes for very compelling reading. I’ve only just finished this book and already I want to know more about Sage and ASSET.

Thrust into a world she doesn't believe in by her mother's death, can our heroine accept her destiny before she gets killed?

This is an urban fantasy origin story as our heroine slowly awakens to the world around her. Eventually people actively trying to kill her does force her to accept her new reality, but it does take a while. And that is my one complaint about the story. I get tried of people constantly dismissing the truth in front of them, even it if is a hard truth to accept.

That aside, this was a good story with a rich detailed world and lots of interesting characters. It is a good thing that this is just the first book in a series, because there is a lot of ground to explore. I look forward to reading the next volume to see if our heroine truly grows into her role.

I wasn't sure what to expect from this book but was happily surprised with how the story unfolded, there is the mystery, intrigue plenty of twists and surprises. There was some great world building what the real world is like including with ASSET and Sages new and old friends some of who aren't who she thought they were. I look forward to reading more in the series to see what happens next with Sages new life and those around her.

This was a GoodReads Giveaway. Thank you!

I was pleasantly surprised that I liked this book. It wasn't another teen angst story wrapped in Sci-fi. It was an actual adult in the working world dealing with a sudden onslaught of magic. (Smile) The writing was good but it was unsettling with the vampires, etc. Even so, towards the end, I seemed to care what was happening regardless of the vampires.

Book 2 is on my Kindle Wishlist on Amazon. I look forward to seeing what happens next.

I am voluntarily reviewing this book. This is the first in a new series. This is a convoluted plot filled with surprises!. Sage's world gets turned upside down when her mom is killed. And that is all I can say!! The rest of the story you need to read for yourself. It is well worth the read. A great start to a new series. I give it a 4.5!! I think most paranormal/fantasy readers will like this.

A Weapon of Magical Destruction

While the book had an interesting storyline, I found the main characters to be under developed. It was obvious there is more to Grey’s story and many of the others. A little more depth of character would have been nice.
All in all, a nice easy read.

I enjoyed this book but felt that Sage could have been more open about the changes in her life. She was sooo into sf/fantasy to include D&D/RPG that I felt she should have been so very pleased to find things were real. I'll still recommend the book as it was a good read.

A Weapon of Magical Destruction by Katie Salidas is the first book in the Agents of A.S.S.E.T series. Sage is still dealing with the loss of her mother and what she inherits is the last thing she ever expected. Getting her mother's belongings from her office at A.S.S.E.T was supposed to help with the grieving. Instead, ever since returning home, weird things have happened and Sage's pretty sure she's losing her mind. Seeing strange things is the least of her problems when she loses her job and then receives a visit from mysterious man who reveals her mother's secret work dealing with magical beings. She doesn't want to believe him but being attacked by a vampire forces her to face this new world. She's given a chance to take her mother's place, but she doesn't trust A.S.S.E.T and she's not about to blindly work for them. As a war threatens and the truth of her mother's death is revealed, Sage learns of a magical weapon that could destroy everyone if it falls into the wrong hands. With surprising allies, Sage searches inside A.S.S.E.T for a murderer but knowing who to trust is almost as hard as making her roommate less suspicious.

Sage has a complex, fun, dangerous, and emotional journey as she grieves over the loss of her mother and discovers secrets that change her life. She struggles to process the emotional weight of losing her mom and this plays into her story throughout as well as her personality, giving her this biting quality at times where she lashes out. She's a spunky character with a strong and layered personality that has charming quirks and flaws to balance out her strengths. She's completely well-rounded with a sass to her that never stops and a strong-willed attitude that never lets her quit. She's also incredibly nerdy and owns it which makes her even more delightful and allows for the inclusion of fun references to various fan favorites. Her journey is more about finding her strength than it is becoming a hero. Though she is heroic, she's more on a search for her identity in this world she's been thrown into and having to learn how to navigate this new life while balancing it with her old one.

Katie Salidas has a steady build up exploring a thorough introduction into this secret society of magical beings while also getting inside Sage's life and the normality she has at the beginning. Salidas subtly weaves in oddities in Sage's normal life which build up to her discovery of magic. The mythology of this world is explored but it feels as if it's just one peek inside this larger society which leaves you wanting to know more and to explore everything this world has to offer. Salidas excels at fun relationships as Sage has a talent with quick banter which is often brought out, especially around the mysterious Grey. The two have tension between them where their comments are often biting while also supplying humor. Despite the serious moments and emotional turmoil, the tone stays light throughout, thanks to Sage's personality and sharp wit. Possibly the best relationship is between Sage and her roommate, Matt, who share a sibling dynamic which includes protectiveness, advice, a shoulder to cry on, and someone to be nerdy with. They accept each other fully and have a repartee that's delightful with both characters having a sass to them that comes out when they share scenes. A Weapon of Magical Destruction is an addictive read you won't be able to put down, full of mystery, magic, nerdy references, and quirky characters.

Sage Cynwrig's life dramatically changed with the death of her mother in a plane crash. Mark Sorenson, besides being her mother’s boss and the Director of Operations of the Phoenix office of A.S.S.E.T., had been a surrogate father to her. He was always there for her, someone she could lean on when her mother was away on assignment. Maybe not by blood, but in all other ways, he was family and the only reason she came here to A.S.S.E.T. when he asked her to. When Mark had to leave the office for two minutes – which turned into much longer – Sage closed her eyes to ward off the migraine. She saw fireworks in the sky in her dream, but looked down at bloody wounded bodies in the midst of a magical battle. She saw paranormal creatures fighting with strange weapons. A cloaked figure in blue popped up in front of her, judged her worthiness, then held out blue hands forming a ball of light. He threw them at her feet and each exploded, burning the grass to ash as he laughed. The essence of her mother’s spirit poured into her heart. One small white ember of her mother landed on her wrist and a tree branded into her skin, its roots digging into her veins. She heard a faint voice calling her. The battle disappeared, she woke, and Mark was staring at her wrist!

Finding out more of what her mother did sets Sage on a path she did not want to be part of, involved with people she is not sure she should trust. She learns that having the mark of the Tree of Life will draw dark magic to her. When someone tries to kill her, she begins to take things seriously. Real magic is nothing like her gaming adventures! She could die if she doesn’t find allies she can trust and a way to neutralize the weapon of magical destruction before it takes her life.

This was an exciting book with twists and turns happening everywhere. For a young woman whose only experience with magic comes from a game console, this is a major life adjustment! Will she join A.S.S.E.T. and let them teach her the skills she needs to master? Grab your copy of the book and join the magical battle!

Sage Cynwrig is a young woman dealing with an impossible task, to overcome the passing of the only parent she ever had. When her mother dies Sage’s life changes expectably, not only she has to deal with the loss, but also must come to terms with her own magical abilities, something she never thought be real.

Nights of fantasy role playing with her friend just do not prepare for the kind of job she sees herself dragged into as she finds herself in a new world, where supernaturals are a given and she has been (reluctantly) entitled with the job of policing them. Here the “paranormals” (as they are called) are hidden in plain sight and monitored by ASSET to keep the “normals” aka human population as unaware as possible.

Sage is a very likeable character, easy to follow while she copes with her magical origin as the story develops and interesting to watch as she comes to term with her lost. It is a great start in the series with room for growing in the next two published books: “A Taste of Your Own Magic” and “Magic in Disguise”. I cannot recommend them all enough.
