Winter in Mystery, Alaska just got a whole lot hotter. Dragon shifters, lions, and tigers oh my!

An overwhelming need to get away from life—from grief—sent Naomi Parker on a trek through Alaska. Even though she was expecting to photograph some unique wildlife, she was NOT expecting a dragon. They don’t exist, right? Wrong. And a dragon who turns into a human? Even more unlikely.

A hot dragon prince... yeah, she's totally hallucinating. And when he won't leave her side, and their chemistry is off the charts, suddenly, it's a whole-new-world of fantasy and excitement, until it threatens to cost her everything…including her life.

Col has one mission: to kill the dragons who murdered the royal house of Li'Vhram—his family. But he wasn’t expecting to find his mate in the process. When a cute, curvy woman needs rescuing from the dragons he’s hunting, his senses go on high alert. She’s his mate. He’s sure. And he’ll do anything to make her his.

Knock Down Dragon Out is the first book in the new Soulmate Shifters in Mystery, Alaska series. It’s a full-length, standalone fantasy paranormal dragon-shifter romance story featuring a strong human female and an alpha male dragon prince from another world with a propensity for protecting and pleasuring his mate. Happily-ever-after and more guaranteed!

Knock Down Dragon Out is the first book in the new series, Soulmate Shifters in Mystery, Alaska, by Krystal Shannan. What a great start to this new series this was. It was surprisingly intense, hot as heck, and I really enjoyed the characters.

fire breathing dragon gif

Col is a dragon shifter whose home was on Reylea. His planet was becoming overcome by erupting volcanoes. Their magic benders had managed to find a similar climate on Earth and had just created a portal for their escape. But before they could make it to the portal, Col’s family was attacked by another family of dragons. Col chased two of the murderers through the portal and found himself in a freezing cold climate which he would later find out was Alaska. His own world was all jungle and desert so this new world was completely foreign to him. Col’s only thought was to get revenge for his murdered family by killing the two dragons that escaped before him. When he found them, though, he found that they had injured a human woman who lay bleeding on the snow. A strange glow was emanating from the woman and his dragon immediately stood up and took notice. There is only one reason a woman would glow, she was his mate. He had to ignore the call to her, he had to avenge his family’s deaths. But the call was too strong. She was injured. She needed him.

Naomi Parker has spent the last two years grieving. She is a photographer and as a last ditch effort to get herself out of her depression, she took an assignment in Alaska photographing wild life. She was not prepared, though, for what she saw when she was in the woods taking pictures. She thought she saw dragons that could change into humans! This can’t be possible.

After Col saves Naomi and finds shelter for them, the mating call is too strong for them to deny. Fate had chosen this woman for Col and there was a white-hot need for him to make her his. And let me tell you ladies, that these two most definitely wasted no time in closing the deal. They could not get enough of each other, the newness of finding their mate creating a constant need. In Col’s mind, though, he is continually battling the urge to find and kill his enemy but his dragon also couldn’t bear to be away from his new mate.

“This woman was his new home.”

On Col’s home planet the different shifter clans were not friendly. Very few were able to make it through the portal before their planet was overcome. When Naomi is in danger, Col finds an unexpected alliance with three of the other shifters that got through, two lions and a tiger. Since they all have lost everything that was dear to them, they are able to come together and create a new family of sorts, a sort of brotherhood. They need each other to try to learn to live in this new world, and they need Naomi to teach them the ways of her world.

I really enjoyed this. I love the world Krystal has created here. What I really loved was the way the different shifters came together to create a new type of family, the way they accepted each other. As I said before, Col and Naomi together were scorching! But Naomi was a surprisingly strong woman. Even with all she had been through, she was strong and independent. Col was all alpha and possessive with her and it was so cute but she held her own. This was sexy and sassy and pretty darn suspenseful. I can’t wait to see what Krystal Shannan has in store for us next!

Solid start to the series!

But I immediately jumped into the next book in the series and had to DNF it. They changed the narrator for the rest of the series and I couldn’t stand the new narrator. I won’t be continuing the series.

Less than three hours.

It took me less than three hours to finish this in a single sitting. Goes to show you can never go wrong with Dragons! :D

The plot isn't unique and follows a pretty straight line but I loved the writing.
And the characters.
The chemistry between the MCs was through the roof. I had butterflies in my belly! xD

It was pretty short but since I say this about all Dragonshifter books that I enjoy, I'm beginning to think the problem is with me . . .

I'm definitely reading more from Krystal, in fact I already know which. It's called, A Very Russian Christmas and the quotes make it sound right down my alley. And I can't wait for more books in the series. ^_^

The story was rushed and had no real tension, or plot things just kind of happen. Naomi accepted things too easily and quickly (despite the back and forth survivors guilt she was battling initially...? It was a little muddled and confusing. And also felt like an issue she should have sought help for, should have been ENCOURAGED to seek help for).
The ‘Bad Guys’ had no sense of fear. Like were we supposed to fear them and the moment they would strike? Because mostly I assumed they were going to bite it big time it was just a matter of the MCs getting their act together to get it done. Which was HELLA annoying.
Also you never really learn much about Reylea or Col so why should I care at all that the world was on fire and his family had been ganked? Because I really didn’t.
Also Naomi’s family was a bit blank spot and didn’t really leave a good impression overall.

10/10 would NOT recommend. This book needs some serious review and editing.

Este libro tiene:

- Insta-love
- Personajes planos

Starting Fresh.....

What a wonderful new take on the shifter world, I am going to totally love this series....Imagine starting from scratch like a newborn, only fully grown quite a few hundred years too, no money no cloths in a different world.

Dragon shifter Col had to go through the portal to earth after the traitors murdered his whole family, his whole tribe, they were all caught unawares while trying to escape the nightmare that had befallen the planet, he was the only one to escape with life. As he seeks revenge on th 2 traitors he is rewarded by fate when he sees a woman unconscious, but with the glow of his fated mate....He must choose to either chase after the traitors, or save what fate has gifted him. He is in a world he does not know, all white skies and ground, things he has never seen, he only knows he must save her and then seek his revenge.

Naomi wakes up with no recollection of who she is, or where..All she knows is that her savior is like something out of Game of Thrones, all hunk and gorgeous and she wants him, but the injury to her head has her hallucinating because he turns into a dragon! When she awakens she remembers everything, but dang she had the best sex of her life with a dragonman and she wants more????

They meet other type of shifter that were fortunate, or not to come through the portal, they were enemies on their planet, but will Tor , Kann, Saul and Col realize that they must put their lifelong differences aside if they are to survive in this world?

DNFing @ 25% due mainly to awkward, stilted writing - painful segues abound - but also due to dubious shit like having sex with someone with amnesia. If someone has a head wound and doesn't even remember their own name, I'd consider their capacity to consent diminished.

You know I always thought that Alaska would be this beautiful but very cold place and well I couldn’t be more excited to tell you that is may very well be cold but while I was visiting Mystery, Alaska, it was so very, very hot. In fact, I would go so far as to say, I thought my clothes were just gonna melt right off. There was this group of sexy and super hunky warrior shifters that caught my attention and well I just couldn’t seem to keep my eyes in my head. And when a dragon shifter named Col met his soulmate, Naomi, things really started cookin’. Col and Namoi are strong, captivating characters that had some seriously sizzling chemistry that I could practically feel from every page as they worked through their differences and the emotional turmoil that goes hand in hand with differing cultures and then there was the fact that Col has some baggage from back home interfering with wooing of Naomi which lead to him fighting some seriously messed up dragons that were determined to destroy Col which of course added some thrilling danger and excitement to the story and kept me glued to the pages of this fast paced and excellent beginning to this new series.

Once again, Krystal Shannan has created an exciting, sexy and fascinating new world full of vibrant wonderful characters that she brings to magical life with her well written words. I was very excited to hear about this new Soulmate Shifters Series and I couldn’t wait to read the first book and I have to say that I was in no way disappointed, so I can’t wait until I get to visit Mystery, Alaska again and get to know more of these sexy warriors.

Too much insta-love and all disagreements seem to be solved by way of sexy distraction, I also don’t care for the female lead 🤷🏻‍♀️

A picture is worth a thousand words

This is an amazing beginning to a series. The author puts us right into the action from the first page and it doesn’t slow down until the last page. I love the way the characters were able to overcome their unexpected circumstances and thrive. I especially enjoyed the way the characters put aside their differences for love. I can’t wait to see where the author takes these characters and the world she has created.

I had the chance to Beta read this book before it was available as an ARC and considering that for the past 2-3 years i've followed this author, i really did enjoy this new series. I'm used to reading paranormal romances from Krystal Shanna - she has a way of linking her stories in some shape or form, whether it is characteristics from the shifters, or places, or even recurring characters coming back, but you know that there will be something familiar when you get your hands on her books.

Knock Down Dragon Out may seem as though there are some bits and pieces missing, but it simply grabbed my attention and made me pay attention to the small details. It also made me curious to find out the who, what, where and why, and especially, it made me want to know more about the characters that we met in this book. It wasn't particularly long, but considering that it's a first book in a new series, i'm not sad about it since i didn't feel bogged down by too much information all at the same time.

I loved how you got the modern feel with some old history thinking, almost as though there was some time travelling done somewhere. While i loved not being overwhelmed with too much information at the same time, i'm still an impatient kind of person - i love finding out everything there is to know now so that i can satisfy my curiosity as soon as possible. Needless to say that this author is really putting my patience to work until i can get my hands on the next instalment of the series!!

This was okay …
Based on this read, I’m open to exploring more from this author and in this world …

I say just okay because, while I enjoyed the world and do think the author has a talent for world-building, I found other aspects implausible. For example, the MCs know each other for something like under 48 hours before they’re saying things like “she’s my heart and soul”, etc. I get instalove, but this was a bit heavy on the ‘insta’ part for me, I guess.

The characters were a little bland, they could do with some development, but likable.

A cute, quick read to keep me company at work and during workouts, so yes, I will likely explore more from the author, at least a bit.

Absolutely wonderful

I loved this book. This is Col and Naomi's story. Col is on a mission. Find the last two responsible for the death of his family and end their lives. Even if it means following them through a portal to another planet. Naomi is in Alaska to take pictures. After the death of her fiancee she needs a distraction to get her back on track. She doesn't expect to find dragons in Alaska. She doesn't expect to get caught in the middle of their war. She definitely doesn't expect to fall for the sexy dragon. Col has the traitors in his sight when all of a sudden he sees his soul mates magic. Well doesn't that just complicate things.

Just what I have come to expect from Krystal Shannon's writing, I fell for Col when he lost everything he has loved and respected his need for retribution. And then he sees her Naomi his mate in this new world and she tilts it on its axis.
Naomi did not expect her trip to Alaska to be anything but boring and now she has a while new life ahead of her,

Wow, so we're just gonna jump right into the sex, love, and soulmates within the first two or three chapters of the book and the characters knowing each other a handful of minutes, huh? Sure, that's cool and totally not unreasonable at all.

This book wasn't bad, but it wasn't all that great either. I'll be one of the first to complain when a book is too slow, but boy did things move way too fast here. Col (a dragon shifter) is chasing two other dragons because they helped kill pretty much his whole clan. They come thru a portal to Earth and almost right away Col hears the screams from a female and gives chase knowing it's them. Pretty much the second he lays eyes on the unconscious woman, he falls in love with her because she glows for him and that means she's his soulmate. He even lets the murderers go so that he can take his female to safety. When they reach an abandoned cabin Naomi wakes up and can't remember anything. But she knows that she is unbelievably attracted to this sexy as sin male that claims to be a dragon and says she's his mate, so of course they're gonna jump into bed together. The next morning Naomi remembers everything but, excluding a bunch of internal struggles over a dead fiance, is completely on board with everything Col says and not only accepts that she's his mate, but embraces it wholeheartedly. Now, I'm not saying I want her to fight against it because I hate when that happens and drags on, but to just be like, "oh I'm a dragon's mate? Yeah, that's cool. I'm gonna give up my whole life for a guy I literally just met because he makes me feel good" is really hard to just go with. Plus that fact that both of them now are spouting 'I love you' within 24 hours is ridiculous.

There was a lot of sex going on here instead of actual story. Any time Naomi was upset or wanted to have a serious discussion, Col would distract her with sex. Even when other shifters show up, it's all these two think about. As for the actual story, there wasn't a whole lot to it. Col and the other two dragons weren't the only ones to make it thru the portal. Two lions and tiger came thru too and have approached Col and Naomi to form a new tribe for a bunch of reasons. Col did kill one of the other dragons pretty early and eventually the second one kidnaps Naomi. It's a desperate search for Naomi by the shifters during which time Col fights the second dragon, and Naomi has learned she'll never be the same. Honestly, I'm kind of getting tired of books like this always ending the same way with the human female. For once, can we not have this happen? Anyway. It was the typical happy ending with this new "family" working together to try and figure out their future in a new home.

Like I said, this wasn't bad. It just wasn't exciting and I really don't have any interest in reading more of the series.

I live in Alaska, and this one speaks to me!!

First of all, I love shifter romance. And in the mix, throw in the dragon shifters... and yeah, I pretty much go gaga for them. So you can imagine how much I enjoyed the fact that this book featured many shifters. The sense of brotherhood among all the shifters was the next thing that I liked. But it kind of got awkward because of Naomi.

So you can see where this is going. These are the things that I disliked:

● Having sex with someone with amnesia isn't cool. Like, come on, dude, she was injured, and just because she seemed willing didn't mean she was in her right mind to make decisions.
● The characters were likeable despite not being well developed.
● And the sex scenes were kind of boring and repetitive. I felt like the MCs were horny all the time throughout the book. Where is the part where they get to know each other?
● We get the POV of just the heroine. I wanted to know about the hero and Reylea too :(

DNF - Hi Do You WANNA F....

Literally, could not make it past the first 10 or so pages. I love a great mate storyline - love it - but this “mate mine” let’s get down to f*** is just plain lazy writing. No character development. At this point the main characters are about as three dimensional as paper dolls.

Didn’t finish. Won’t finish.

I rarely never finish a book. This was to fast for the insta part, did not feel the chemistry. . I felt it had flat characters. I made it half way through and I get the fated mate, but she just poof was over her past? With a guy in less than 24hr? Other than that the story of dragons was keeping vested, but it didn't go anywhere and nothing explained by 50%
