If only life were as simple as a clever pickup line.

Cade McNaughton is the last man standing. His brothers have all found love. Despite his recent oh-so-revealing Instagram nightmare and his family’s subsequent disappointment, Cade is ready to fall for a woman who cares more about the last book he read and less about his body. But amid the buzz and banter of tending Foghorn Brewery’s bar, Cade is not exactly settle-down material. All that’s about to change, starting with buzzing off his fauxhawk and sporting a cardigan that has everyone talking.

Sistine Branch has more bills than money, yet she’s fine eating barbecue chips for dinner if it means keeping her knitting shop open. But when her lights go out and the electrician puts a ten-thousand-dollar price tag on renovations, Sistine’s back is against an old and crumbling wall. For the past two years, she’s relied solely on herself, which makes selling out to the one woman from her past who can ruin everything the worst decision ever.

Cade and Sistine are backgammon and end-of-the-bar friends. One rejection, a literal fall into Cade’s arms, and a dinner date with farm animals has them enmeshed in feelings neither thought possible. But, it only takes one lie, a literal fall from grace, and a date with the she-devil to unravel everything they’ve come to know.

If they want a real shot, they’ll need to start from the beginning and realize that love is often a tangled mess, sometimes a funny T-shirt, but never perfect.

The A Love Story standalone series continues with Tap, giving readers the story of Cade and Sistine. Cade’s never had that desire to settle down, no woman has made him want to buy a house and raise babies, he’s happy with tending bar and running Foghorn Brewery with his brothers. That is, until some unexpected feelings for Sistine are stirred up. Sistine has a secret and she knows she’ll be judged for it, so she hides it away even from the man who makes her heart sing. They both recognize the feelings, but Sistine pushes for a friendship that Cade knows is meant for something more. Not used to the chase, Cade stumbles his way through wooing and trying to win the girl.

"It was kind of like when they were kids, but deeper in his chest. Cade wanted a life, a love, like his brothers."

I've held a personal flame for Cade since we first met him, he's the brother that seems so happy go lucky, easy to be around, and not necessarily serious about the future. Sure, the brewery and the bar are his brain child and are very important to him, but he’s definitely the ultimate bachelor of the brothers. There’s no better way to describe him, especially with how Tap starts out. Sistine is the quiet friend, she owns a knitting shop, is a member of the book club with all of Cade’s family and other friends, and has an interest in learning backgammon. She’s colorful and unexpected, the emotions she makes Cade feel even more so. I really liked Sistine, I liked that she was so much her own self, even if the secrets she kept hidden were not what I would’ve pictured her having. Their connection is obvious even if not to them; Tracy Ewens knows how to write chemistry that’s for sure.

"Who the heck was Sistine Branch? And why did the entire world suddenly seem so much more interesting?"

Though the brewery does play a large part in the story, in my opinion it took a backseat to the romance more so than the previous novels. Cade is so serious about the brewery, even if he’s often the one joking around, so seeing him put himself out there and do new things was fun. I laughed so hard when the chickens became more than just chickens, but this sign to Cade that maybe he was ready to settle. We see Cade be more than the bartender and Sistine is far more than the quiet knitter. We see these two in their element, both together and separate, but the moments they are together are my favorite. Each share so much of themselves, though it is apparent they both hold emotion back even if in different ways. I enjoyed them learning how to care for another, to accept being cared for, and figuring out that they can do so much more than is expected of them. The twist, though unexpected, didn’t surprise me once I made the connection. It was clever and made things interesting, especially towards the end.

"She knew there were still a few people scattered throughout the darkness, but the only things clear were his mouth and the weight in his voice she recognized as need. How had he come to need her?"

I breezed through Tap! I was so excited for Cade’s story and finding it a unique story that really stood out from the other sibling’s story was a nice surprise. Tap is the perfect casual romance read, taking place in a small California town with the bustling Foghorn Brewery as its centerpiece. It’s light without being fluffy, the romance realistic, the friendships meaningful, and the characters easy to connect with. I always recommend Tracy Ewens’ novels, but this one might be my personal favorite. All the novels can be read as standalones, though I recommend reading them in order just so you can meet all the fantastic characters Tracy Ewens has created. I can’t wait for the next, 2019 is full of promise already!

In the final installment of the McNaughton brothers, we finally get Cade and Sistine’s story. Every time I start an Tracy Ewen’s book I think I know what to expect and then I read the book and I’m always blown away. The direction of this love story was unique but also so down to earth and normal. It’s a comfortable read about every day people with a bit of a twist to it.

Cade has always been the fun loving, happy go lucky brother and I loved that Tracy Ewens was able to add to his character so much more than that easy going charisma that we’d previously seen. Cade by far was the most realistic and honest portrayal of someone struggling to grow up, to become more grounded and seen as someone you can depend on. His emotional turmoil and his vulnerabilities were genuine.

As for Sistine, (I absolutely LOVE her name!) she was just the kind of quirky sweet type of heroine that I love. She was honest, adorably sweet in her innocence but also a bit wild and seductive when she lets her guard down.

Both of them have hidden behind their safe and predictable facades but when push comes to shove, they fight to break out of that mold. Their story is definitely along the lines of self discovery, forgiveness and accepting the good along with the more bumpy side of love.

Tracy Ewens has such a great style of writing. Her characters aren’t predictable or one dimensional, instead they’re complex and always so grounded and real. They face every day challenges, they battle inner demons, they have an amazing set of supportive friends and family and the love story builds over time and shared experiences. Sometimes I crave crazy OTT and insta-love but other times, these rich slow burn love stories that build layers upon layers of detail, from the simple setting to the supporting characters and intricate situations the MCs are placed it, it all pulls me in.

The only thing I would have changed (and this is solely based on my own personal preferences) is the whole Mel situation. The fact that she causes Sistine so much angst and stress, only to pretty much swoop in, cause chaos and bounce right back out with no repercussions seemed too tidy. When you introduce a character like her, someone so selfish and materialistic and shallow, I want some kind of karma like justice to happen. I felt that Sistine held all this emotion and conflict suppressed inside herself, so much that she tried to erase a part of herself and was pretty emotional crippled over the betrayal that Mel dealt her, the ending just didn’t do any of that justice.

And tbh the push and pull from both Sistine and Cade lasted a while, I didn’t really understand why they were both being so stubborn. They must have broken up with each other at least two times each throughout the book. First it was Sistine, than Cade, then Sistine again, than Cade. It was a little too much back and forth, especially towards the end. After being so sensitive and perceptive to Cade, it seemed weird that Sistine didn’t sympathize more with Cade and his sense of betrayal after finding out her secret. As for Cade, yes, he should have been a bit more understanding when the truth comes out (it wasn’t that much of a scandal, imo) but it took him a ridiculous amount of time to come to the conclusion that Sistine wasn’t perfect and that love isn’t all marshmallows and rainbows. A real relationship takes hard work and all the ups and downs that come with it. The answer seemed to stare him in the face and yet he still spent a lot of time moping around and basically burying his head in the sand.

I would still recommend this series; it’s charming and sweetly romantic.

I loved all three of the books on this family of brothers. This Cade's story. Always up for a good time but never to settle, he realizes there may be more to life.

Sistine has been in the previous books as well. She owns a knitting store. Her and Cade a good friends until it seems like Cade wants to be more.

It's a friends to lovers tale that is filled with humor and family love. Both of them need to decide if their hearts are ready for commitment. Great ending to the McNaughton bunch. Loved the setting and the brewery and seeing all the previous couples.

Good read all around!

When the family jokester, Cade, is blindsided by a post of his mostly naked body that an ex of his posts on Instagram, it sets off a change in him, a change for the better. Suddenly he's noticing his friend, Sistine (stupid name I thought) in ways other than as a friend, and wanting to take her on a date. But, when she rejects his advances it makes him only more persistent.

Although I thought Tap was a cute story, I felt underwater for most of it, probably because I haven't read the other books in this series. If I had known this was not a standalone, I certainly would not have signed up to read it. I wish authors or whoever it is that writes their blurbs, would note these things! I found myself liking Cade, but disliking Sistine and honestly not seeing their connection. I couldn't find the connection between the two of them and I didn't connect with them much as a reader, either. So three stars is about all I can rate this one.

There is nothing more appealing to a woman than a HUNKY BARTENDER; even better is him being a friend. This is the third book by Ewens that deals with brothers running the Foghorn Brewery and finding their soul mates! I could tell you this is a stand alone but having read them all I can recommend starting from the beginning. Cade McNaughton is the last brother standing after his siblings have found their better halves and are filling their nests with little ones. With all the glasses behind the bar that he tends; Cade finally figuratively puts his on and notices Sistine who has been a friend at the end of his bar for months. Sistine Branch is a Yarn Shop Owner who is struggling with her business and the secret in her past that could jeopardize everything. She has to protect her heart and Cade by not letting their relationship knit together. "A copy of this book was provided by author via Netgalley with no requirements for a review. Two and a half stars.

I was a great fan of Tracy Ewens' books and went through a spate of reading them and requesting ARCs on NetGalley so when this book was on offer at 80p I jumped to add another to my collection, even better one of my reviews of a previous book said I was keen to read Cade's book.

Cade McNaughton and his brothers own Foghorn Brewery and he runs the bar. Recently his brothers have all found love and he is increasingly feeling like the odd man out, viewed as the good-time boy by his brothers and women when actually he is looking for his own white picket fence, wife, kids and marriage. Things culminate when an ex posts a picture of Cade asleep and naked on the pub's instagram, it attracts all the wrong kind of attention and Cade's brothers are not impressed.

Sistine Branch is the exact opposite of the women Cade dates. They are all about the big hair, make-up, tight clothing and a good time. She is the owner of a knitting shop with old lady taste in clothes. She and Cade are friends, he is teaching her backgammon and it's a huge case of opposites attract. Obviously she is attracted to this ridiculously good-looking guy but they also share a love of words and games and have great conversations. For his part Cade realises that Sistine is one of the few women, maybe the only one outside his family, that he has real conversations with.

So far so good right? Okay the old-lady knitting shop thing is a bit cliched but I could run with that and I love a good opposites attract romance.

But Sistine has a secret. It's one of those annoying secrets that the reader doesn't find out until three-quarters of the way through the book. By that time not only was I bored of the secret that dare not say its name but when the big reveal came I was massively disappointed because frankly it was so much less exciting than I had imagined and goodness only knows why Sistine felt it was a guilty secret.

I reread one of my previous Tracy Ewens reviews to see why I liked her so much, and I quote:
she writes engaging characters with real life problems and memorable minor characters. There was angst, but not too much, humour and good plot development
Sadly, in this book I found none of the above to be true, Sistine felt like a caricature of a quirky, offball, misfit all she needed was a graphic novel habit to hit the geek girl jackpot. Cade definitely seems to categorise women as Madonnas and whores which is problematic for me, I really hate that these guys never marry the women they've been happily banging for years and it troubles me that female writers perpetuate this view.

Sadly this was a bit of a swing and a miss for me.

Sistine has a past, but she's moved on and is doing what she really wants. She owns a knitting shop. All is well until she needs money for the shop and contacts her college friend, Mel. At that point the lying to Cade begins.

Cade is the last of the McNaughton brother's to marry. He's feeling like he's missing out on things because he hasn't found someone. Although, his big issue is he's a player...and those are the types of women he attracts. Now he's realizing he wants more. I liked Cade...

The book has a lot of repetitious dialog, I got tired of the color comparisons to yarn. Also, the way Sistine kept her secret from Cade seemed out of character to who she was.

I was disappointed in how current events and politics were pushed towards the end. It wasn't necessary to the story, and it pulled me out of a very good scene, twice. Even though names weren't mentioned the readers aren't stupid. It didn't add anything to the story. When I read a romance book I want to enjoy the fantasy not be reminded of all the crap that's going on in the real life. I've only read Brew, Smooth and Tap, but if this is her new norm I will pass on her books.

I really liked the way this story flowed, although for some it might be slow paced, for me it was just perfect. We have two individuals who are both in their thirties, they have their own business and both are at a crossroads in their lives. For Cade, simply put he wants to be seen beyond his physical attributes and he's reputation as a charmer, desired for his bedroom prowess and not so much for his intellect. Sistine, I adore, she has her own style and her own rhythm but she's also a business owner drowning in debt. She wants to be seen as capable and she really wants to make a go of her knitting business. But she needs money fast and the only one to offer it to her is the one person she totally left behind after being betrayed. Most readers will probably take issue with how long Sistine held on to her secret while probably thinking Cade was overreacting. I totally understood both their reactions because Ms. Ewens took time to let their back stories evolve into the fabric of the romance. In the end, I loved how it all ended and the resolution really made sense. Don't be fooled, this is still a sexy, often extremely sweet and wonderful romance partly because Sistine and Cade took time for the romance to build. Plus Sistine despite the almost goody two shoes image, is sexually proactive and knows what she wants and how to ask for it. A very sweet, poignant romance for the 21st century.

Tap was an excellent read. It was my first book by Tracy Ewens and I throughly enjoyed her writing style. The character developments were great, I loved the whole story to be honest. It was such a fun light hearted and happy read! I really enjoyed getting to know all the characters from both sides of the family, I was glad to see there were prequels to this book!

I loved Loved LOVED Sistine, our heroine. She's super talented and quirky and always stays true to herself. She goes through some difficult financial times and takes care of herself very independently, something I really respected that no one handed her out of her troubles.

Cade, our hero, I enjoyed his maturing process through the book. I didn't really get a feel of the 'old' Cade as we were just kind of told of him and who he was, but the 'new' was pretty great.

I really enjoyed the slow relaxed style in which Sistine and Cade fell for each other, it was much more realistic and lovely than an instalove situation, and it was a refreshing change from other romance.

I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to escape into a funny light hearted afternoon love story as I did.

I was given an arc for this book for my opinion, I look forward to reading other books by this author!

I loved this book, and I loved by Sistine and Cade, their story was great. So Cade is the last McNaughton brother that is single and he has come to realize that he wants what his brothers have but he's not sure how to get it. Sistine was wonderful, she's quirky, she's real and she has a secret that you don't find out what it is to almost a the end, it drove me crazy trying to figure it out. Don't worry it isn't a bad secret. I loved how their love story evolved from being friends to dating to more. I love the slow pace of their romance and how vulnerable Cade allowed himself to be. This story really worked for me and part of it was because we got to see both Cade's and Sistine's pov, along with the fact that there was no cheating and best of all there was an Epilogue which always makes a book feel complete. This was feel good book and I'm glad I got the chance to read it.

What a fun story. This is the first book of Tracy Ewens that I've read and I loved it. Now I'm going to have to go find the rest of her books. I see that there are several about these families. Cade was part owner and bartender of the Foghorn brewery. He was the last bachelor of his family and liked it that way until his friendship with Sistine subtlely changed. She owned a knitting store and he thought she would be a nice change of woman from what he had been dating. The last one he dated posted a nude picture of him taken while he was asleep. What he didn't know was her side job that she took beecause she was desparate for money to fix her building was something that he would be very surprised and taken aback by. Great story . What an exceptional love story. Cade and Sistine were both so well developed. The landscape, the people and the plot line felt so real. I fell in love right along side Cade and Sistine and I was crying, laughing and feeling ever moment of their story. I found it extremely insightful ever time that the story dug into Cade and what made him Cade. I think it is so true in our society that people forget that what the outside looks like does not define the inside. This is a first read of this author for me and I loved every word. The style is descriptive without being overwhelming. The presentation of feelings were done in such away that I felt them, not read them. I am going to look for more from this author ASAP. Well worth your time and one click.

There's something sweet and wholesome about this style of writing. Ewens makes her characters your friends, their family important to you and their relationships meaningful. It's like being a fly on the wall of Sistine's knit shop or on the bar of Cade's Taproom. I'm deeply invested in the McNaughton guys and am very proud of Cade. He's not just the hot bod at the bar but a truly loving individual. Sistine is not just a knitter but a prideful businesswoman. These characters are special and I can't wait to read the next couple. I cannot say enough good things about this book! I have read all the books in this series and while I loved them all, I think Tap is my favorite.

Tracy Ewens has given us a wonderful character in Sistine. She's sweet, quirky and just such a good soul that I wanted to bring her home to be my friend. I think I have a girl crush on Sistine!

Cade, oh gosh, what is there to say about the last single brother of this clan? What a great guy. The first date he planned! Be still my heart!!

I hope I've intrigued you and made you want to read Tap because it's just. that. good. Seriously. Get it now

I had not read any of the other books in the series and was not lost. This book could easily be read as a standalone, but once you do read it, you will (like me) want to go back and read the others.

This is a romance/love story about a man that is struggling to mature and is in emotional turmoil with a woman that is so different from him in every way. The author has a way of writing characters that are multifaceted and complex. They show vulnerability, strength, dedication, support, forgiveness, and acceptance.

It is a beautiful love story that will make you smile.

-I didn't read the other two books (Brew & Smooth) but I didn't get lost or thought I was missing any important information.
-Funny and refreshing from the start with some infuriating and sad moments.
-I loved how Sistine saw the whole world based on yarn colors.
-I loved how Cade was all into his job and took his dates with Sistine seriously, making them special.
-Cute ending.

The characters are simply amazing & the storyline keeps you wrapped up in the romance, humor & mystery of what she’s hiding. I really loved this book! They’ve been friends for a while and start noticing sparks flying, but while Cade is ready to take their relationship to the next level, something’s holding her back. She has a secret that burns her so badly that she’s gotten to where she trusts no one. I’m voluntarily reviewing an advanced reader copy of this book.

You'll love the story of Sistine and Cade. We met them in some of the other books in the series. Cade is the last single McNaughton brother and is rethinking his bachelor life. Both characters are so likable and this is a fun, easy romance to read. I read a reader copy via Hidden Gems and voluntarily chose to review. A beautiful love story.

Cade runs a bar with his brothers and is known for being a ladies man. Sistine has a yarn shop in town and is seen as the shy, quirky girl. They’re friends/acquaintances of sorts.

Obviously this is a love story between the two. I listened to the audiobook and Teddy Hamilton is amazing so there’s that…😉

Sistine has a side job no one knows about and when it comes out, Cade is really upset. I’m sure there are some readers who think he shouldn’t have been that upset but tbh…I was on his side on this one. Sistine really had no reason not to tell him, and she absolutely should have when she considered using stories that cane from his experiences. I’m not sure her groveling was adequate. If it had been the other way around, we (readers) would’ve demanded more groveling!

Also…Melissa is AWFUL! Truly. 😣

Having read eight out of the ten books in this series, I can attest each one is a stand-alone that is connected by cameo reoccurring sub-characters, who one by one get their own HEA. You don’t have to read them in order, folks, but you’ll obviously have better background knowledge on the long list of book characters if you do.

Tracy Ewens continues to give us couples whose chemistry and attraction feels sweet, genuine, and spicy at times, but knucklehead moments always seem to get in the way.

This time around we have a sexy as sin bartender who is starting to long for his own family and finally be taken seriously by his siblings. I felt outrage on his behalf by what an ex-girlfriend did and even more so that his own family treated him like the culprit. Frankly, I’d like to have seen him tap into a little vengeful mojo and do something similar to that wicked witch. Pleading to undo the damage caused by such a selfish person only rewards their manipulative behavior and encourages them to do it again. She needed to be taught a lesson, folks. Along with another unsavory character that has been a thorn in the side of Sistine, the heroine, since college, who also gets off scott-free for being manipulative.

Sistine was pretty but quirky/implied a tad bit nerdy and klutzy at times with not a lot of fashion sense, who got around town on a bicycle. Oh, yeah, she’s all about her knitting business, too, along with one huge hidden exception that seemed highly unlikely. Since I’m not a big fan of my heroines being downplayed and put in a situation where I’m shaking my head in dismay, I struggled somewhat to embrace her character portrayal at times. Her goodness and sweetness towards others, of course, endeared her to me. Everyone loved her, so really, how could I not do the same. However, I certainly couldn’t keep overlooking and forgiving her own stupidity and illogical thinking at times.

Speaking of the business of knitting, I got tired of hearing about it! From all the various groups of people who came to her shop we were introduced to, down to how she handled things, etc...etc...etc. It stole main couple time and bogged down an already snail paced plot.

A secret that was hidden basically by lying by omission felt out of place for this character. It didn’t fit the profile, folks. The former college roommate, who based on her description must surely ride a broom everywhere she goes, made the heroine look like a complacent doormat, which I’m not a fan of either.

The storyline unfolded at a very leisurely pace and results in several back and forth pulling and pushing each other way. At 40%, there is still just a lot of talking going on and not much else. It isn’t until half-way through they finally have a first date. Yeah, the writing and storyline is extremely s-l-o-w moving. Too many meandering, lengthy conversations of no particular importance with subcharacters were included, which did not help. IMHO, the writing needed to be reigned in and stayed more focused.

66% into it is when I tapped out, my fellow romance book loving friends. I felt like I was spinning my wheels and my frustration over Sistine’s illogical decisions/behavior was more than I could tolerate. Knowing Cade would soon be taking the same turn soon killed my desire to read to the conclusion. Though I’ve enjoyed several books by this author, this one simply wasn’t as good as I had hoped.

Title: Tap, Series: A Love Story, Author: Tracy Ewens, Pages: 297, stand-alone but part of a series, sweet/quirky/kind of nerdy, no fashion sense heroine, sexy/wants to be taken seriously former bad boy bartender hero, unlikely secret.

The angst of a new relationship. This is a quick read. The storyline is one of boy meets girl , they get to know each other, a secret exposed breaks them up, and their love reunites them. Friendships are tested and survive. This is an easy book to read. It has a smooth pace. It took only a few hours to read. Reading it was a peasant diversion.

Our Hero: Cade McNaughton is a thirty something year old man who realized his life was missing something. He was missing the love of a good woman. A woman that would complete him in everyway. A life partner. He worked at a bar / restaurant named The Tap and a brewery named Foghorn Brewery. He and his brothers ran and loved it. He was also the bartender there at the Tap. He never lacked for female attention or company. But that was getting old and he wanted something more.

Our Heroine: Sistine Branch is a small business owner who was barely making ends meet. She needed to renovate the building she owned but the price was exorbitant. She was harboring a secret from all her friends and that secret enabled her to obtain the money she needed for the renovations. But she was not sure of her decision to have gotten the money that way. It made her uneasy. She had to align herself with someone who had betrayed her in the past. But she had no where else to turn. In order for her shop Knitterly to survive she need money.

Once a month Cade's mother and her friends met at the Tap for a book club meeting. Sistine belonged. That's where Cade started to notice her. He would bump into her in different places like the coffee house and always enjoyed her company. She never threw herself at him for which he was glad. He also realized she was different than most because instead of giving anything up as a New Year's resolution she always felt that she wanted to learn something new. She wanted to learn to play backgammon so Cade volunteered to teach her. Every Wednesday at one o'clock at the Tap they would meet at the bar. He would be bartending but in between customers he would play backgammon with Sistine. So one day he asked her out to dinner and she said no. She felt she could not accept because of the secret she harbored and that if he knew he would never want to see her again. She decided to try and get out of this heavy commitment she had in order to be free to date Cade. But that was not to be. However Cade did not give up. He wore her down till she said yes. They spent weeks going out and getting to know each other. Everything was looking good. Then the burden of Sistine's secret came knocking at her door. She was terrified. She felt if people knew about it they would never look at her the same way again and she may even lose her business. But she had no choice but to deal with it. Like a whirlwind her secret was up front and the center of attention. When Cade found out about it and looked into it. He realized that Sistine used him. Even though Sistine had broken up with him, he was still trying to reconcile with her. But now that the secret was out in the open, he walked away. Sistine was really hurt. She knew that Cade was the best thing that ever entered her life and now he gave up on their relationship. Was Sistine the right one for Cade? Will the love between Sistine and Cade overcome this new obstacle? Will either of them find their happily ever after with each other or with another? I enjoyed reading it. I received an Advanced Readers Copy of this book via Hidden Gems and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I enjoy reading about family stories, and Tracy Ewens did a great job to write about them. If you are familiar with her books, some stories are interconnected and this time it’s about Cade McNaughton, bartender, running The Forghorn Brewery and the Tap House.

After seeing all his brothers finding their match, Cade felt like something was missing. He realized that he wanted that too, no more games, no more meaningless nights. Maybe the person he was looking for was closer than he thought but totally different from the other women he dated, looking for someone who could see past his good looks.

Sistine was one of a kind, sweet and quirky and a knit lover. Running her shop, sharing the love, adorably sweet with that innocence but also a bit wild, she had this ability to surprise Cade every time. I adored her bright personality and her way to see the world, expressing her feelings with Yarn colors. She had her dream job but was struggling to keep it afloat, but still fighting to keep doing something she loved.

They have known each other for years, being backgammon partners, and having that kind of routine, comfortable and easy. The characters weren’t predictable, just looking to find their way, being grown ups.

The chemistry was definitely there. Cade and Sistine’s interactions could go from sweet to hot, when both of them were trying to understand the true extent for their feelings. They could see past each other’s looks and connected deeply, more than they wanted to be.

However, the drama around Sistine’s was a bit dragged out to me and I wish some parts were handled differently. I understood that it was necessary at some point, to show that they had to accept them just the way they are, that love didn’t have to be perfect, a bit messy but worth the fight.

I appreciated how the characters took time to really know each other and mostly how the author put the readers at ease, in this comforting atmosphere, down to earth about an endearing family. It was finally time for Cade to find his match, between his meddling family and friends, and I was so glad to see him finding his way with Sistine.

Tap: A Love Story by Tracy Ewens is a stand alone romance by Ewens. The books do build on each other and make for a more satisfying read when read together, but they stand beautifully together or alone. I greatly enjoyed the books I have read, and am going to go back and read some of the ones I have missed.

Tap: A Love Story is a contemporary romance with fun characters and fans of the love story books from Ewens will recognize most of the characters and enjoy seeing the continuation of the previous stories in the background of Cade and Sistine's story. I like both characters, and how they are both a little quirky and fun, while still being good hearted and sweet. The uses of social media and animals was very well done, although I think it might date the books a little in the long run, after Instagram runs it course, but maybe I am wrong there. I did think that Sistine's big secret was not as big of a deal as she thought it was- and that if she had just come out about it in the beginning it would not have even been an issue- and that it was a bigger problem even at that point that I thought it should have been. However, I did think the characters and complications that come with them were fantastic. I am hoping to see more about Sistine's family in future books by Ewens and plan on reading more in the future.

Tap: A Love Story is a delightful romance with quirky characters that made me smile. THere was only one aspect of the book I did not love, but the rest was on point and I think readers will enjoy the read as much as I did.

I have never read a book of Tracy Ewens before receiving this one as an ARC through Hidden Gems. This review is entirely my own words.

This story snuck up on me. It started off slowly and evenly, as we are introduced to Cade and his brothers and inlaws, et al., as well as Sistine, her friends and background. A lot of the first part of the story is told through either narrative or by "reading" the thoughts of Cade and Sistine, and that's where the pacing started to bug me a little bit. The pace of the book seemed to slow down and speed up and not always in places where I expected it to. That isn't so much a criticism as an observation. Since I've never read any other books by Ms. Ewens, I have no idea if that type of pacing is in her other books too. There's also mystery in Sistine's background that we aren't privy to until later in the book. I liked that sort of hidden suspense,

Beyond the pacing, I enjoyed the give and take between Cade and Sistine. This was a case of knowing someone for a long time, but not really noticing that you're drawn to them or even acknowledging why you want to be around them. In this case, Cade, after a rather rude awakening (I have to assume he has a very nice butt), decided that instead of this all fun loving, don't take anything serious, demeanor he has been enjoying all this time, he should grow up. His brother having a baby and the realization that other people have duties and responsibilities that bog them down, has made him realize that he's been pretty much the goof off brother for a while.

And in the case of Sistine, she never saw it coming, and when she finally acknowledged it, she realized that the mystery (the one I mentioned in the last paragraph) might just be the death knell for what she was feeling.

I loved the word play between them - Cade and Sistine both share the love of language and verbiage and that's what drew me to both characters, as I could see them in my mind and picture knowing the two of them. That's what makes a good character for me - is it someone I could actually know and like in real life? If the answer is yes, then the character has been developed enough that I can like, or dislike, or not care for them - and since I don't like everyone I know in real life, my personal feeling about a certain character doesn't matter. If they're developed well, I can picture them.

I am not one for spoilers, but I'll say that the book is good and it tells an interesting story, which is the whole point of reading a book in the first place. I don't think you will be disappointed with this book, I know I wasn't. If anything, I didn't really want the book to end. I was still trying to flip another page when I finished the epilogue. :-)

After reading Brew and Smooth, I had a feeling there was something happening between Cade and Sistine. I hoped Ewens would write their story and I’m so glad she did!

Cade and Sistine have been firmly in the friends camp but as is wont to happen, they start seeing each other in a different light.

Cade is a hot bartender and has no problem with being unattached but it’s quickly clear that he’s more than his good looks. He listens to grammar podcasts, for crying out loud! And yet he’s rarely taken seriously by his family, even though he runs a third of their brewery. I was really frustrated on his behalf when his family and friends couldn’t truly see him. At the same time, Cade needed a push to take himself more seriously as well.

After an ex posts a half naked photo of him on Instagram, Cade starts thinking it might be time for a change. He gets two hens and a rooster who will be the brewery mascots and starts taking social media and blogging more seriously. And he also starts thinking about whether it might be time to settle down and consider marriage and a family. But then he also has to think about whether his bad boy playboy image impacts his ability to find a woman worth marrying. I really liked this examination of the image he presents to the world and how it helps and hinders him.

That same examination is at play with Sistine. Sistine owns Knitterly, a knitting shop in financial straits. She’s quirky but also confident in who she is and who she is not. At the same time, she keeps her secrets and her troubles to herself, even though she has a great group of friends she could lean on. This was really hard to see because Sistine essentially makes a deal with the devil to get out of debt. I never fully understood her reasoning, especially once the truth came out. I can understand desperation and I can understand making hard choices that land you in hot water but she needed to do much more due diligence first and this made me super frustrated with her.

Cade and Sistine are both more than who they seem and I loved how they could truly see and appreciate one another. Even though Sistine was reluctant to get involved, there was no resisting Cade in the end. I loved his determined pursuit of her. Their relationship did progress faster than I would have preferred, particularly with the novel’s resolution, but overall I enjoyed this one a great deal.

The books can be read as standalones but I think you’ll appreciate Tap even more if you read Brew and Smooth first. I adore this series!

Disclosure: I received an advance copy from the author in exchange for an honest review.

I have read all three books in this series and given them five stars they are all so good. Three brothers all very different with three very different love stories. This story of Cade the sexy bartender and Sistine the hippy owner of a knitting store is a treat to read. Both characters have know about each other for years but have never really connected in any way. Cade loves to have fun with the women he meets in the bar and has gained himself a reputation which unfortunately backfires on him causing some bad publicity for Foghorn the brew pub that he part owns with his brothers. This incident starts him evaluating his life and making him realise that he wants to settle down like his three brothers.

Sistine lives a quiet life enjoying her store and her close friends and a game of backgammon with Cade every Wednesday. She admires Cade from afar but never thinks that she has a chance with him until a late night meeting at the local coffee shop changes things. However Sistine has other things on her mind mostly how she can raise the money to do necessary repairs and renovations to her store. Unfortunately returning to her secret past is the only way she can think of to get the money she needs.

Cade becomes more enamoured with Sistine and I love that he notices the clothes that she wears and that she isn't wearing lipstick! After an amazing date with Cade, Sistine knows that she is really attracted to Cade, more than she should be if she wants to keep her dirty little secret. Things finally come to a head when Sistine's old roommate arrives on the scene and the secret is revealed in a very public way. Cade and Sistine have to decide if they can overcome this and continue to build a relationship.

Tracy did such a great job with this book, all the way through I was dying to know what was in Sistine's past and it certainly was not what I expected.

You can read this book alone but I highly recommend reading the previous two as it is such a great series and I am wondering if there will be any spin-offs with the other small town characters.

#11 in the Love Story romance series

I was looking forward to reading the story of the last hold-out of the McNaughton brothers, and it was somewhat disappointing but ended on a high note so I'll give it 4 stars. At first I didn't think that Cade and Sistene went together. Cade is a wild and crazy guy, the entertaining bartender, the single guy that loves to flirt and date. But, as we find out, he's not quite that guy; there's a lot more under the surface. He wants to settle down, build a family like his brothers, live on a farm, be more than the fun guy. Sistene, on the other hand, seems more like the settled type. She knits, she runs her own business, she has a strong group of friends but she's very private. When she and Cade start developing their friendship into dating, Cade discovers there's a lot more to her than he thought. Then, when the secret comes out, he's shocked and can't seem to fit her comfortably into his preconceived picture anymore, which causes some problems between them. I was surprised about her secret as well. The way it was built up, I thought it would be something criminal, something to really be worried about. So the actual reveal was a bit of a letdown, but I could see that it would still cause some problems because of the secrecy about it. In any case, I loved that both families got involved (and friends too), showing that both of them were close to their loved ones. I loved that his mom gave him advice: "Love is tough work whether she's a knitter or a bartender. She's going to screw up and so are you. Why aren't you over this by now?" And, "None of us are only our outside, Cade. Boy, things would be easier if we knew what we were getting from the cover, right?"
It's time to move on from Petaluma and the McNaughton's and meet Sistene's family in Bodega Bay.

Tap - A Love Story,  Tracy Ewens

Review from Jeannie Zelos book reviews

Genre: Romance

Well, I didn't realise this was a series of connected reads, and though it is a stand alone romance, I think I'd have got more from it if I'd read the others, knew the back story. The Melissa thing especially, I don't know if that's covered in earlier books, but I was so puzzled, what was it that Sistine ( and all I can think of is Sistine Chapel each time I read her name...) was doing for Melissa for all that dosh, and why did they fall out years ago.
I loved the characters but I didn't feel the connections between them, did really understand the little nuances and side jokes that I suspect I would have if I'd read the other books.
Cade is a gem, but apart from idealising what his family and friends have I wasn't really sure why he was all out for his own family. Do guys suddenly get that instinct for family? It just seemed such a sea change in behaviours and thoughts. Why hadn't he noticed Sistine before, can he really be so attracted now he's noticed her when she's been there all the time. Its easier on her part, he's a hot guy and she's a long held secret attraction for him.
I didn't really connect with this story, found myself skimming parts trying to work out what was behind events and actions, overall it was just an OK read for me. As always though others love it, we all enjoy different things in our reading.

Stars:Three, a story I never really connected well with.
