Xemi is always educating the public about Indigenous issues, and provide dire emotional labor for the growth of our mainstream communities. She leads community workshops that center healing through art, and help hone the artistic talents of our community members.
Still, like most Trans Womxn of Color Artists, Xemi is struggling to stay fed, stay warm, and stay creating.
Xemi is suffering from housing instability and is in need of support to keep doing the work she does. She is currently working on several short plays, full length plays, books, chapbooks, zines, and so much more!!!
Please help Xemi continue creating and surviving by supporting her Patreon page!
Written in a mix of English, Spanish, and Nawat, these poems are so clearly personal and direct. Several are framed as "open letters," and many are pieces explicitly talking to either communities or individuals - making this a chapbook of personal, conversational, sometimes angry and hurt but sometimes joyous, missives to the world from the artistic heart of a "Brown. Trans. Femme."
Favorites were 01, "An Introduction to Metzali," and 18, "A Prayer to Siwanawal."
This book of poetry is an incredible insight to the experiences of the author who is a transgender native woman. These stories aren’t told often at all and when they are, you only hear of there suffering. In this book you will read about hardships but you’ll also read about her love, her growth, her passions, and much more. I’m truly grateful to have had the opportunity to read this book
