kindle unlimited, lots of others in the captivating history series dealing just with 1 or 2 people in one, found it a bit more interesting because one of the ones knew very very little about, read it that way then caught it on freebie day

A very interesting look at the life of this American legend. I enjoyed learning of his many business adventures, his authorship of several books, religious views as a Universalist and political/community work as well. Charles Stratton aka Tom Thumb was a distant relative who toured with his own show after Barnum gave him his start. It was Charles who helped him out of bankruptcy. Great read and fun to compare to the fantastic movie The Greatest Showman. These Amazon captivating histories are short, concise, very readable history lessons and have deepened my love for biographies. Watching and researching jumbo the elephant is also recommended.

This book is a great introduction to P.T. Barnum

This book is a great introduction to P.T. Barnum. I never would have imagined that he had lived so much of his life before he became the Greatest Showman. This book makes me want to see The Greatest Showman even more.

Interesting enough; a little dry and General in places but a good starter to the topic of you need a fast run down. A few factual errors I spotted however; all somewhat minor or pedantic but still.

Very quick read of an interesting person. Barnum has been compared to Trump but from what I read in this biography, this is only true in regards to his self-promotion. Barnum had a much better moral compass in regards to abolition, civil rights and moral improvement.

There was a lot more to him than the circus. He had a good relationship with Tom Thumb that wasn't just exploitative, making them both millionaires. I was happy to learn that he was an abolitionist too.

Not one of the better Hourly Histories I have read. Then again, not sure how an essay about P.T. Barnum can be made more interesting than what is commonly known about the man already.

3.5 Stars... Very short! Interesting but disappointed because Baraboo, Wisconsin was never mentioned.
