The hunt continues for Jack Reacher in this well-developed series by Diane Capri, paralleling some of the work done by her close friend, Lee Child. While still on the hunt for Reach, FBI Special Agent Kim Otto is home in Detroit, awaiting her next lead. She is approached by a DEA agent who has some information that might help her investigation. Reacher is said to have been associated with two women out West, one of whom is married to a somewhat nefarious businessman, likely dabbling in the drug trade. While Otto travels to St. Louis to garner some more information, she discovers that the women—twins—have been missing and the husband has hired an investigator to locate them. While trying to piece the puzzle together, Otto meets this investigator, who seems more intent on trying to scuttle her progress than anything else. Otto is left with more questions than answers and connects with her partner, Carlos Gaspar, down in Houston, where he has been working some angles on his own. Meanwhile, in the shadows a figure is trying to lock down his sizeable stash of opioids, ready to hit the streets. These two women might be the only thing standing in his way to a successful business venture, though the mysterious Jack Reacher is also a hurdle that must be neutralised. Working a few leads, Otto and Gaspar find themselves travelling a great deal to find Reacher, discovering his connection to one of the twins and how things might not be entirely as they seem. Capri works her magic again and ties this story in nicely to one of Lee Child’s Reacher novels. Those who enjoy the series will find something in this piece to whet their appetites. Recommended for those who enjoy both the Reacher novels and the Hunt for Reacher series.
Capri keeps things fast-paced, which allows the reader to stay focused on the endgame without getting too bogged down. I found myself enjoying this novel, though was at times a little overwhelmed with all the twists and turns that emerged from the subplots. Otto and Gaspar retain their protagonist roles, working the narrative effectively as they travel and seek to find Jack Reacher once and for all. Of course, they end up in the middle of a case that sees themselves diverting attention from the ultimate goal. Some of the other characters prove exciting and alluring as they push things in one direction or another, without hijacking the narrative. Touching on some of the poignant topics of the day, Capri gives the reader some insight into opioids and their trafficking around America, while also posing the question of how Reacher fits into the larger web. The story was highly entertaining and the chapters flowed very well, keeping me hooked throughout and hoping to learn a great deal more. I am eager to see where Capri takes things, though I am still finding it hard to fathom that this is all taking place in a compacted time period, while Reacher’s nomadic adventures seem paced out over years. Something to chew on for a bit, I suppose.
Kudos, Madam Capri, for another wonderful novel in the series. I have recommended you to many others and will continue to do so.
Send the Wrecker (10-2). This is my favorite hunt for Reacher yet. More narrative from one of Reacher’s nemeses. Through in some medical tourism to Mexico with the Sanderson sisters and you have a winner.
I’m so happy to read another book featuring one of my favorite characters, Kim Otto. She is still on the hunt for Jack Reacher who always seems to slip by her. As usual she & her partner Gaspar have very little information from their boss. Also entering the search is a mysterious DEA agent who they are unsure about whose side he is on. Part of the clues send them on a search for twin sisters, one a decorated veteran and the other a glamorous wife of a rich man. This book kept me up all night as most of Diane Capri’s do. A great read!!!
Following the basis of Lee Child's excellent The Midnight Line, Ten Two Jack is what could be its long epilogue/sequel, by the inimitable Queen of Thrillers, Diane Capri. As usual anti-hero Reacher is never actually present and the main protagonists, FBI Agents Kim Otto and her [wounded-but-recovering] sidekick, Gaspar follow his trail and try hard - despite the lack of information from their boss - to put together what's happened to Reacher's and who has cause to target them.
Is it a way to bring the elusive Reacher into a deadly spotlight so he too can be targeted by his enemies? Is he involved with the drug-smuggling rings in Detroit, Chicago and Houston? What is the Mexican connection? Who is the shadowy figure responsible for deaths and disappearances - and what is their connection to Jack Reacher? If you want to know, you'll have to buy Book 10 in Diane Capri's outstanding, The Hunt for Jack Reacher series - don't miss it!
Such a pleasure to receive an early copy of one of Diane's books to review! The Hunt for Jack Reacher novels are my favorites although I've yet to read a book of hers I don't like.
Otto and Gaspar are back on the trail and their boss is just as mysterious as usual with his information about where they should go and how much he's likely holding back from them. It's always weird to Otto that he knows exactly what she's doing when he's talking to her.
There's a new character in this book a DEA agent who asks for her help in locating Jack Reacher he also seems to know more than he's supposed to as well. Many threads weave there way through the book and it keeps you on the edge of your seat. It always seems that Otto never gets to sleep and I'm exhausted for her! Another winner for Diane and us and I loved the ending!
Diane Capri has definitely hit a home run with Ten Two Jack, and just as with Black Jack my only complaint is that the book didn’t go on. Agent Otto is at her best and brightest in this one, and Agent Gaspar is back with his pet names and flair for sarcasm. One can only hope that his stated retirement does not mean he won’t be around in the future. As for the story, in my opinion this was Capri’s best Hunt for Reacher tale yet because it followed so closely on the heels of the Midnight Line, which came out last November. This was like a continuation of that story and Reacher was front and center despite the fact he was never really there, or was he. A great job, Ms. Capri. Please hurry up and start on the next one.
Fairly well-written, as usual, in the clipped, short-sentence style that keeps the reader hanging on every word and eager to find out what happens on the next page, next chapter, etc. A couple of minor distractions that have nothing to do with the plot (follow the bouncing flash drive - where is it now?), but otherwise tight prose with very little extra "fluff". My main criticisms, and the reasons for 3 stars instead of 4, are that "The Boss" is too all-seeing and all-knowing (the necessary surveillance is creepy) and that the amount of travel accomplished in a very compact time frame is just not realistic (and exhausting). I didn't care for "24" for the same reasons. Other than that, it was a good read, and I look forward to the next in the series.
Poor Otto! She survives on coffee, I do believe. Otto and Gaspar get caught up in a pretty exciting assignment, which seems to change by the minute. A lot of things changing with this book. I think I read a lot of it holding my breath. I keep cheering her on, hoping that she'll actually get a good look at Reacher...but, maybe next time. I absolutely loved the ending. And, NO!!! Do not skip to the end first. I KNOW that I was holding my breath at the end. Another great book! Can't wait for the next one!
Special FBI agents Otto and Gaspar are tasked with finding the elusive Jack Reacher. Their not really clear why. He's not wanted for any crime. Their boss always withholds information from them. Otto initially and then Gaspar are drawn into and involved in a major drug investigation. A female character, a decorated veteran is involved. And, so is Reacher. This is an extremely enjoyable, well written thriller. Enjoyed immensely!
A fast paced tale that keeps you guessing. It read very quickly and adding just the right amount details about the main characters to keep you interested. As always Special Agents Kim Otto and Carlos Gaspar are bouncing from one city to the next always one step behind as they try and complete their assignment. The fast pace and the suspense will keep you reading and looking forward to the next book.
I am a big Jack Reacher fan, and equally enjoy the Hunt for Jack Reacher books. This one comes after The Midnight Line and continues the stories of some of the characters from the book - Rose Sanderson, Jane MacKenzie, Rex MacKenzie, Brammel, Scorpio, and hints about Jack Reacher. Otto and Gaspar team up again in their search. Another satisfying interval until the next Jack Reacher Book comes out.
Two Ten Jack is based off of The Midnight Line in which Reacher finds a West Point class ring in a pawn shop & decides to return it to its owner. FBI Agents Otto & Gaspar, still having orders to find Reacher, end up in a murder investigation that is linked to an old enemy that Reacher left for dead, a Chicago mobster, opioid theft/distribution, & snuff film porn. The tale has great pace & interesting twists. Good read, you'll enjoy it.
Diana out did herself. This was a great follow-up to the last story. Kim Gasped make a great team. But I got a hint from this book ain't for long. Can it possibly get any better . But Diana always surprises. We will see with Lee Child's new release. Keep on writing great stories. Carl Clause
I love this series. I am reading them way out of order, but the stories seem to stand by themselves. I do remember the Jack Reacher books these are connected to so I find them truly an adventure! And places I actually know put a smile on my face with a warm memory of days gone by. Keep writing! I will keep 📚 reading!
This story brings back characters from Midnight Line, the one where Reacher sees a class ring from West Point in a pawn shop. Reacher knows the real value of earning the right to wear that ring. He becomes obsessed with returning it. So Agents Otto and Gaspar need to interview the witnesses. Hang on cause it’s a wild ride.
This is the 3rd 'Hunt for Reacher' I have read, and the biggest problem with the book is the search for Reacher. There is a story here, and a well written one. There are characters from the Reacher books, and they play a minor part. But the story would stand on its own without any references to 'Reacher'. Those references add absolutely nothing to the story. Still ok to read.
I love Diane Capri's books. I loved this one from beginning to end. The characters are fully fleshed out and I feel like I am part of the story. The suspense is amazing. I could hardly put it down once I started reading. I am waiting impatiently for the next book in this series. Well done!
I've loved all of the series but now I'm glad Otto has finally opened her mind to not believe Reacher is a killer just for fun! I wish all my friends would read the series after they read all the Reacher series. I love going back and forth.
I love the Jack Reacher series. Each book is better than the one before. Otto and Gaspar are so believable as characters. I recommend this book to all readers. Can't wait for the next one. Will Jack ever be found?
As before, this book has it all..mystery, suspense, chaos, a crazy cast of characters!!Keeps the reader awake through the night right to the end. Superb writing skills, always.
eh. Can't tell if she wants to update the files, or sleep with Reacher. I really don't care for Otto, or this story. There wasn't enough of Rose, who was the only one I really cared for in the source book.
This certainly was one of the best in the hunt for the big guy. Twin sisters make for double the trouble. On my way to look for the next in the series to follow the adventures of the investigating duo, Otto and Gaspar.
Pallets of Opiates and Fentanyl in a public storage facility start the trail of a search for Reacher. Twin sisters, one a West Point graduate helped by Reacher in the past are trying to escape the mob , one of which is one sisters husband.
The tie-in with Rose, the one who 'lost' her West Point class ring? It felt stretched. Somehow Scorpio felt Reacher was responsible for his missing drugs?
I'd hate to think Capri is struggling to make things ... fit.
Ten two Jack...by Capri. I enjoyed this story so much I finished it in a few days. My only complaint is the name of the female agent, Otto. To my mind it smacks of a male.
Another amazing Jack Reacher story. Once you start, it’s impossible to stop. Haven’t read a book by Diane Capri that I didn’t love, although these are my favourites.
Learn what happens to Rose after she gets her West Point class ring back from Reacher and figures out how to deal with her war injury and addiction problem.
