Amphipolis has grown into a bustling trading center, with an increasing population and the troubles that come with success. One thing they don't have to worry about though, is being attacked. Everyone knows the Protector of Amphipolis, and no one wants to mess with her for a minute. Except her baby daughter, and a certain bard. Xena and Gabrielle decide to take a trip to Athens, to register Amphipolis' concerns and have a little fun watching the pageantry and glamour of the Olympic Games. However, nothing is ever simple when Xena's involved, and soon the real fun begins.

I'm with Xena on her opinion of Athens. It is loud, crowded, full of pompus asses, too many political games, more drama than daytime TV. In spite of it all, we see new depth to these 2 characters. I know Gabrielle is a bard, and they're supposed to be good at talking and wisdom. However, she far exceeds anyone's expectations for an early 20's young woman to be. Xena is, well, Xena. All fight and hating to lose. Not exactly what I expected to happen, but then Xena has put Gabrielle first, before the Greater Good on occasion. I just couldn't figure out what the Greater Good in this convoluted tale would have actually been, if different from the way it all turned out. Too many irons in the fire, too many self centered politicians and leaders acting like spoiled children. Makes Dori look mature in comparison.
