The Last Throne is a promising new epic fantasy series filled with mystery, adventure, heart, and hope. Perfect for fans of J. R. R. Tolkien, J. K. Rowling, Rick Riordan, and more.
A mysterious King once ruled Ye’shurun---a King with a magic only legends could dream of. A magic that controlled the elements, shapeshifters, and other rare and wonderful creatures. A magic that could wield the power light and life. But those old legends are forbidden now by the Twelve Princes, who wield their own power with cruel strength, caring little for the needs of their people.
Daireth and Airaine have to fight for every scrap they get while struggling through sickness, loneliness, and the disdain of the rest of the castle. Their only other friend, Captain Graedin, has promised to take them away after he retires from the army. But that dream is shattered when they discover he’s gone missing during a routine journey. Knowing that they risk their well-being and the wrath of the Princes themselves, they fight to get what they need and to find out what happened. What else can they do? All of their hope rests on Graedin’s life.
Meanwhile, Captain Graedin knows he’s being targeted by an assassin. He fights to make his way home to the children he loves, using all of his training and strategic skill in vain. And with every danger he escapes, he questions if his enemy is more than human…and if the legends he knows so well are coming to life before his eyes.

I am an avid fan of fantasy novels, and so when I saw this book I jumped on it because it looked promising. Ruins Falling is an interesting fantasy novel. In this book, we are introduced to a variety of characters. The first is Graedin. He is out on a mission for the kingdom, but something is hunting him and his men. Dark assassins strike at them. Sometimes the assassins are successful at taking a few lives, while others they are captured, but before they can be questioned they poison themselves and die. Graedin is desperately trying to finish things up so that he can return to the two children that he has promised to protect and care for, but things are not going his way, and after a dangerous battle he knows that his time is short.Back at the castle, a young boy and a young girl, the two wards of Graedin are struggling to survive. Changes are happening and they are being pushed aside and whispered about to be liars and deceivers. The two must steal and scramble for what they need to hang on until Graedin can return, but when will that be? The Twelve Princes who rule are not to be trusted. Most are only out for themselves and will destroy the people they are meant to serve and protect in order to keep what it is that they wish. The legends long silenced are returning and with them immense danger as well. Ruins Falling is book one in the Last Throne series by A.R. Peters. This is the first book that I have read by this author and when I saw the cover and read the blurb I was excited to start reading. As I read this book, I honestly thought that I had missed a book somewhere. The author throws us into the story and a situation that we don't know much of what is going on. The author does explain a few things, but this wasn't the start that I was expecting. The story is engaging as it raises questions as to what is going on. I just wish that the author had given us a prologue about the fabled King that is mentioned in the blurb. I think that it would have helped to set the stage better for the story. The story is broken up into parts that follow different characters, so it's easy to follow what is going on and which character is the focus. There is mystery, adventure and a very healthy dose of danger to be found in this story with these characters as they all face things at every turn. There are some minor spelling errors throughout the story, but none are enough to be a distraction from what is going on. As I stated above, I think that this book could have benefited from a prologue. As is we're just thrown into almost a battle situation which raises a lot of questions and honestly makes me feel like I missed a book somewhere. The storyline is engaging, I will admit to that and I am eager to read the next book in this series. The first book is interesting but kinda leaves you a bit confused at times, but will still pull you into the story itself. It is a unique combination of characters, mystery and danger. Somethings you will see potentially coming, and others will catch you by surprise. While the first book has a bit of a confusing start I'm sure that the next book will be even better than the first. I am rating this book 4 out of 5 stars. This story and series holds a lot of promise and I look forward to reading more. This series has potential to be something really good. If you like a good fantasy novel with lots of engaging elements to it, then pick this book up. I'm sure that you will enjoy.
A.R. Peters started this book as a professional. She knew the intrigue she was putting in the first part of the book would hook the reader into wanting to know more about what was going on. What most of us like is a good mystery and that's what we got at the beginning but instead of wanting to know who was the killer, we wanted to know why all the secrecy and extreme protection of the library and its contents.
When I finished reading the first chapter "Makeshift Ghosts" I was confused to no end. Why would these creatures go to such lengths to protect a library and its contents? I understand wanting to keep the book inside the library but why it was such a dire thing I did not understand. That pulled me forward into the book itself to figure out that mystery. I found out plenty of things and there was not a dull moment. I couldn't put the book down and even though I was forced to, because I needed to eat or do other stuff, I can back to read it as soon as I had a moment to spare.
The fact that I don't read much fantasy, combined with my fascination with the story made this book an incredible read for me. Add to that the way the book was written and I was gone. I truly think it was such a great read because it transported me to another realm, another time even if you wish. I can hardly wait to dive into the next book. That's another point in favor of the story, the ending. It satisfied me as a reader but posted enough questions in my head that I need to find out more.
A.R. Peters became a one-click author for me from now on. I will follow her work on this series in particular because I feel invested in the characters already.
I would totally recommend this book to anyone that love fantasy stories.

I enjoyed the stories in this collection and I really liked the world building - it was immersive and well fleshed out. The only reason I didn't rate it higher was that the writing was a little confusing at times - it was typical high fantasy-style, which can be a wordier and almost more poetic style than contemporary writing. I sometimes found it hard to follow along easily without re-reading the section over a few times. This could be because I haven't read this style in a while though and am out of practice. So, while I enjoyed the stories, I did find it a bit of work to get through in places.
This is the first time I have ever read from this author. I am so glad I did. I loved it from the very begining. There is mystery, adventure and a very healthy dose of danger threw this book. I loved every last minute of reading it The only thing I hated was when I came to the end of the book and now have to wait to read the next one.

It was a good story but a little hard to follow at times. But I definitely would like to read more to see what happens. I really liked the end when the sorcerers were called forth.

"Ruins Falling" wasn't really to me interests. While it's an overall okay story, it felt too predictable for me. I did, however, enjoy the writing and the characters.
