At the café Milo Miracle co-owns with his twin sister, coffee and pastries are served up along with his unique blend of sass and snark. Milo knows that small-town life often means that every day is the same as the one before, and excitement can only be found in the gossip that travels faster than the speed of light. When the dark-haired Adonis who broke his heart returns home after a twelve-year absence, Milo unhappily finds himself at the center of Blissville’s favorite pastime. Andy Mason was practically a kid when he left home to pursue big-league ambitions, but the man who returns to Blissville is humbled by shattered dreams and secrets he’s not ready to share with Milo. Andy’s no stranger to grit and determination, and he’ll need both to win back Milo’s cynical heart. Strong wills clash with stubborn hearts, triggering combustible passion once Andy starts renovations at the café. Milo would like to keep Andy’s hands busy doing something other than construction. Andy would like to suggest what Milo can do with his wicked tongue besides trade barbs with him. Neither man is willing to budge until they get a little shove from an outside force. Will Andy and Milo learn that trust is a two-way street, or will this time around end as disastrous as the first? This time around is a witty, sexy, and endearing love story about two men who learn how to balance push and pull, both in and out of the bedroom. It is the fourth book in the Road to Blissville series but can be read as a standalone book. This book contains sexually explicit material and is intended for adults eighteen and over.
I'm a wife and mother of three teenage kids. I've been married to the same wonderful man for twenty years. I've decided that if I can survive raising three kids then I can survive anything!! I haven't uttered the Mama's curse yet, but it could happen any day now. You know the one..."I hope you have a child just like you someday."
I'm an avid reader and lover of all things romance. I've spent my entire adult life waiting to follow my dreams of becoming a writer. One day this past summer, I decided to just do it. No more wishing and hoping. I haven't quit my day job, but that is my ultimate goal...make a living telling stories of love.
I write contemporary gay fiction. I hope you will love reading my books as much as I enjoy writing them.
Initial thought after reading this book: What the hell was that?
I am so confused. The previous book in this series was done well this one was not. The first 40% of this book was just bad. The two MC's are suppose to be in their 30's but acted like they were teenagers. I had to double check to make sure I wasn't reading a YA book. Their behavior was beyond childish and the angry sex did not make up for it.
Andy and Milo once had a relationship in high school when they were 16 and 18. The relationship ended shortly after Andy went off to college. The two had a bad ending and have not seen each other in 12 years when Andy decides to move back to Blissville. On their first encounter Milo acts indifferent but when they meet later that night they have angry sex. No talking just straight up sex which Milo regrets immediately once it is over. The same thing happens again the next night but then Milo decides he doesn't want to give into Andy anymore. After that 2 years pass where two MC's are in a state of limbo where they both want each other but are not willing to compromise. It was annoying to read and I almost gave up on this one.
I honestly felt like I was thrown into a middle of a book. I had no idea about the MC's background but I was suppose to believe that they were once great lovers in their teenage years. Yeah, I couldn't buy it when they were constantly bickering with one another. Or constantly trying to make each other jealous. Instead of talking out their issues like mature adults they avoided them for years and when they finally did reconnect the first time they just had sex. Then they spent 2 more years avoiding their issues again! When things were finally hashed out I was already over them. I think a bigger deal was made out of their issues than necessary.
I just think the author was trying to throw too much into this story and not spending enough time with certain aspects, for example, Milo's drag persona. If you are going to bring it up then go in more depth with it, otherwise, what was the point? I also think she over focused on setting up for her next book and not enough time working with these MC's and their story. The whole ghost and haunted mansion thing was over exhausted in this one. It was just a mess.
So, I went right to the audiobook with this one and I'm not sure if it's lowering my rating or not. I usually love Joel Leslies narration but this one didn't really work for me. The sex scenes felt a little bit ott and it was quite hard listening to it. Especially since they were many and not very long between at times.
I was really excited for Milo and beefcake Andys story though and boy did they have chemistry. Lots and lots and lots of it when they finally got over their past mistakes. When they finally did get over it we got around 20% of just love and acceptance.
My favourite one yet in this series. There's nothing I love more than a well done second chance romance and Aimee delivered one in spades.
Andy and Milo were such a great pair, even before they officially sorted out their issues the sparks were flying. I loved the little insights into their past, the knowledge they had of each other as teenagers still proving to be the case 12 and then 14 years later.
I loved that it took time for them to reconnect outside of the mad sexual attraction and there was some truly spectacular angry sex going on when Andy first came home.
The long gap worked well, both men had matured and grown and learnt to come to terms with their parts in the break up and with the flaws in each of them which had made them capable of hurting the other.
As ever, the town of Blissville provide a a character of its own, as do the other residents and we get to catch up with Maegan and Elijah as well as Jon and Emory and see Memphis' introduction to Lyric, whose romance is up next.
I love reading an author series where I know I'm going to pick up a book and be entertained throughout and Aimee Nicole is one of those for me.
#ARC kindly provided by the author in return for an honest and unbiased review.
Ladies and Gentleman, this book had me breaking my own rules and left me slightly panicked because I did not know!!! Not too panicked which I am attributing to my older age and calmer disposition (the fuck it kind), but still, we'll go with mildly freaking out.
While I was reading this I realized I skipped a book!!! Yes, I could have should have probably stopped, started the book I missed and then continued but, well, I didn't do that. So, if you need consistency in your stories and need to have the flow, well, flow, you will want to read The Lady is a Thief first. I can't even begin to get into how lost I felt all of a sudden while reading. It was like I missed an entire book from the series, which I did not, but kind of did! GAH!
Ok, enough with the disclaimer.
I don't have the best luck with this series. The first two books did not work for me but the third I really enjoyed. This one I just figured I'd jump right in. Aside from the setup I liked it. Well, I mostly liked it I guess. It is a trope I could totally do without unless it is done right and in this case it was done twice in the same book!! Kill me now. It was way too long the first time and the second, well, I give up. It was not fun and it was totally improbable anyway. For God's sake Milo was 16 when Andy left. SIXTEEN. Don't even get me started on what happened once Andy was back for good. I can't even. So, I just kind of pretended this was a high school sweethearts reconnected love story and read it like that and I enjoyed it that way. Pretty much the second half of the book reads that way anyway so I could pretend.
I liked this a lot better than the first two, not nearly as much as the third and well, I really wish I had read the sisters book first.
You'd think that I'd learned by now... This spin-off series is not for me. I've disliked every single book in the Road to Blissville series, but for some reason I keep picking the books up. Maybe it's because I expect the same magic from the Curl Up and Dye series and hope springs eternal and all that. Yet every time I end up disappointed. I disliked both Andy and Milo, they felt childish to me, the games and revenges they played on each other just went on and on.. I was fed up by them from the very beginning and the book never really got any better.
My only wish is that I will remember *not* to pick up more books in this series, because there are so many other books more worth my time.
So cute- Milo & Andy ❤️ Andy returns home after being away for over a decade. He has many demons and self doubt but the one thing he knows is that he still loves Milo. Andy has always been the love of Milos life but his return brought back many feelings and fears. This is a story of forgiveness and growing up. Another enjoyable adventure in Blissville !
This is the fourth book in author Aimee Nicole Walker’s Road to Blissville series, but my first book to read in this series so I’m going to say upfront that while I enjoyed this book I didn’t fall in love with it and that was because I felt I was missing some critical pieces of the puzzle. Now, I want to say that is on me not the author, I knew this was the 4th book when I requested it after loving her last release, so my recommendation is to read the other books before grabbing this one up.
That all being said This Time Around was a second chance at love when they are reunited after over a decade apart in this uncomplicated romance.
Andy Mason returns to Blissville not the cocksure boy he was, but a man who has fought his demons for years and wants to come home to be near those he loves including the man who broke his heart 14 years ago, but their reunion is not anything like he planned and 2 years later he is still trying to figure out how to prove to Milo Miracle that he wants a life with him.
This was an unusual book in that it begins and there are a few chapters that take place right after Andy comes home and then it flashed forward two years. Andy and Milo are combustible together sexually, but the trust they once had is shot and getting it back takes time and a bit of soul searching and confessing. I’ll admit I kept waiting for something big to happen between them after they got back together and I kind of felt like the story needed it. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed watching them together but I kept feeling like they skirted around their issues and solved a lot of their problems physically. I guess I just wanted more depth and less set-up for the next book, I wanted to concentrate on Milo and Andy and not on everyone else.
Although it was a bit uneven, I did enjoy This Time Around.
4 stars!! This is a sweet book with low angst but high emotion; very much consistent with other books written by Ms. Walker. It is part of the Road to Blissville series, however it can be read as a standalone. If someone is new to the Curl Up and Dye and other Blissville books it won't take time to catch up with the ensemble that comes with all Blissville novels. The MCs, Milo and Andy were introduced several books ago with more focus on beefcake Andy than Milo. We find out right in the beginning that they were quite the item in high-school but due to Andy's budding aspirations of a career in baseball, things didn't quite work out between the two. To Andy's disappointment, game injuries and later prevents him from playing baseball and he has to seek other employment opportunities . However, guilt and shame prevent him from coming back Blissville and reunite with Milo. The book picks up twelve years past their break-up when Milo is suddenly face to face with Andy in his cafe/pastry shop which he co-owns with his twin sister. He has a hard time hiding his emotions since he not been able to forgive or forget how things fell apart for them. He shuts Andy down at every opportunity but not without hurting himself. It is very obvious while they dance around each other, that neither has moved on, but there are too many unanswered questions between them to move past it and begin anew. It takes them two years to get to a place where they can actually communicate without hurling accusations or getting into arguments. The book is how they discover each other again, how in many ways they are the same people they were in high-school but in many ways they are different too. There are plenty of times when you want to bump their heads together so that they can get over their jealousies and insecurities🤯; many times you are fanning yourself when they are having Hot Angry Sex 🔥💕; and many times when you are sighing when they are being all cute and adorable😍. It is indeed a wonderful read with a realistic feel about it, certainly recommended for all fans of the Blissville series. From Ms. Walker's hints, looks like the next book will be about Memphis and Lyric. 😊
Milo, 30, and Andy, 32, are having a second chance, if they can stop hurting and blaming, long enough to listen. Andy headed to college and baseball stardom,
while Milo was left behind. Back in those days, being gay could ruin your sports career. Now, 12 years later, each man has come into his own and made something to be proud of. Milo, sometimes drag queen,
and twin Maegan own a coffee shop, while Andy has come home to start his construction business.
Our guys are all hot, sweaty, guttural, and have sex right away, and then they cool off. Several things are happening, and we find out about each man's past. The pets are adorable, and the men get back on track involving emotions with their super sexy times. This includes dirty talking, raw, gritty and graphic descriptions, with lots of clean up. Fantastic characters throughout, with an interesting story to make us happy.
I've read these books out of order, but the greatness of the books is still there. Aimee Nicole Walker has magnificent romances. ENJOY !
milo is annoying. i hate reading his thoughts. he is wack and must be stopped. he doesnt deserve andy. and milo thinks hes superior than others which doesnt sit right with my spirit. the fact that we need more flamboyant gay characters on these type of genre but this one ruins it for me anw. also since i read prescription for love first, i didnt like how tucker was played like a pining fool when he doesnt gaf about milo in his own book; he doesnt even care about him. its just odd and i dont like milo at all tbh. the jealousy is way way unreasonable. im sorry but i just remembered this book again while looking at my reading list this year. makes me mad. i didnt even finished and just skimmed the whole time.
While I enjoyed the book, I have to say that I didn’t fall in love with it. Even though I have read the books in this series in order, (surprise, surprise), I felt that I was missing some critical piece of the puzzle. The story tells of a second chance at love when Andy and Milo are reunited after over a decade apart. Andy Mason returns to Blissville not the "full of himself" boy he was, but a man who has fought his demons for years and wants to come home to be near those he loves including the man who broke his heart 14 years ago. He finds that their reunion is not anything like he planned and 2 years later he is still trying to figure out how to prove to Milo Miracle that he wants a life with him. One small problem that I had with the book was that it begins with a few chapters that take place right after Andy comes home and then it flashed forward two years with chapters in the present time. Andy and Milo are nothing short of combustible together, but the trust they once had is gone and getting it back takes time and a bit of soul searching and confessing. I’ll admit I kept waiting for something big to happen between them after they got back together. I felt like the story could have benefited from it. I enjoyed watching them together, but I kept feeling like they skirted around their issues and solved a lot of their problems in the bedroom. I just wanted more depth. I wanted to concentrate on Milo and Andy and not on everyone around them. I gave the book 4 stars, but it felt "uneven" for lack of a better term.
This is one of those books where I’m convinced most popular authors have ghostwriters because there is no way Aimee wrote this book. I’m a big fan of the Curl Up And Dye series and the spin off has been ok. Certainly nothing as bad as what I just read/listened to.
If you love one of your MC’s to be petty and nasty and jealous of literally every other man in the other MC’s life, read this. Milo is easily at the top of my list of least favorite characters in literature. He was childish and untrustworthy and Andy should have run far far away. I spent most of this book yelling at them. The only reason I finished it is because I paid for the audio.
Also, Ollie should 100% not be Andy’s sponsor and was totally inappropriate propositioning Andy when he was in a role of trust. Gahhh that just ticked me off.
My notes just say over and over “SO MUCH TOXIC JEAOUSY.” Ugh I just want to bleach it from my brain.
This Time Around was a fantastic read. When it was over I yelled NO NO NO..I need more!! As usual, the snark, the heat, the sweet and emotion sucked me in. Andy and Milo’s story was emotional and fun. Milo is just an awesome character. His thought process was hysterical! Andy and Milo were just meant to be! *SIGH* The writing again was top notch. Aimee sets the bar higher with every book and she continuously surpasses it. I love Milo’s family and in particular, his sister Maegan. I want to be part of this family!! She seamlessly included many characters, old and new and various storylines, old and new, that kept me glued to the page until the very end!! There is quite the intriguing mystery set up here as well for the next book as well that I’m dying to read. I can not wait for Memphis and Lyric!! If you haven't read The Lady is Mine yet (M/F Meagan's story), you are definitely going to want to read it after this book!! Congratulations my friend on another fantastic story from that beautiful mind of yours!!
Ooooooh, I had such high hopes for this one... I LOVED Andy from previous books. Everyone always so jealous of him around their guys, I wanted him to get someone amazing! Not that Milo wasn't alright, but he for sure wasn't my favorite. Sighh.... Each one of these kept getting better for me, so I was sadly disappointed by this one.
Milo and his sister own a coffee shop... Andy left him for college when he was sixteen and now that he's back twelve years later, he's mad that Andy just up and left with no word.... and he has a right to be, I would've never spoken to him again or used the twelve years to get over it.... What I wouldn't have done, was acted like a brat, give mixed signals and continuously make Andy pay for it over and over again with the hot and cold. I seriously wondered how old MIlo was, because a lot of the time... he acted like a child....
Andy.... I mean, I had always liked Andy in the previous books. I understood being young and making a series of bad decisions, especially while away at college, my goodness, I would've HATED my teenage/young 20's self. I understand him not wanting to come back because he'd disappointed his parents.. but you didn't cut them out of your life for twelve years, so..... why Milo?
Like the first two books, the back and forth was too much for me. I skimmed A LOT. We have years before Andy came back, and then another two after he'd been back and had all the angry sex and then regret afterward... it was just exhausting.... And side note... Milo being a drag queen?? Not only didn't I buy it because his personality was nothing of what you'd expect, but it all just seemed to pointlessly thrown in, and I still don't even know why. It was barely touched upon or explored.. it just seemed like a filler, when it wasn't needed because the rest of it was to long and drawn out already!
And dudes... you cannot be jealous when you spent twelve years apart... what did you think that as teenagers and young adults you WOULDNT be with anyone else, especially after having no contact with one another for 12 YEARS??!!! Just ugh..... this whole thing.
I guess the good thing about it, was that overall.... they got their happily ever after and for Andy, I was glad. Not usually a fan of second chance romances, especially after such a long gap, this one just didn't work for me at all. 2 stars from me on this one.
This one was just Ok for me. I seem to go back in forth with this series between OK and I liked it. I didn't dislike this. The problem is the characters are grown and behave like children in the beginning. I mean have a conversation please before being a twat. Also the romance in the book seems to take a back seat to the mystery. They are not cohesive each seems to be it's own separate entity making it difficult to stay connected to the MC's as a romantic couple. There is a big time gap we don't see because they are in previous books but it would have been nice to see some of that through their eyes. There is plenty of sex here and it's hot and nice but sex doesn't always translate to intimacy and the back and forth in the book just made me disconnect a little. Milo and Andy are a great couple and they are a testament that your first love sometimes is your forever love but I just think between the mystery and the dumb shit in the beginning this would have been a better book if all that didn't turn me off. Upside is that there are some matches that I find interesting that were hinted/introduced in this book that I am looking forward to, so of course I'm going to carry on with the next one.
I'm sorry to say that this did not work for me. Too many cliffy teasers from other books. Not only MM books but MF books as well. Too much time spent on setting up not only the next book in this series but an upcoming book in yet another spinoff series. Too much telling. Sadly, not nearly enough time spent with the men who are the main characters in this book.... well besides all of the sex. SMH....
I'm going the next two in this series only because I already bought them, however, I do believe they will be my last from this author.
UPDATE: After reading the next two books I must rescind my above statement. Though I was unhappy with this particular book Ms Walker proved that she still can make me love Blissville and the people who live there.
Ahhh, I just love the people in Blissville! I love this whole group, all the connections and all of the people we have known since the Curl up and Dye series.
Andy and Milo were great once they got past their anger, the hate sex (I mean, yeah, it was hot, but it still was sad that they were so quick to anger with each other at the beginning) and I loved their families and friends.
Can't wait to start the 5th book, and the hopeful many, many more! Blissville is gonna be nothing but gay couples before too long! ;)
At the café Milo Miracle co-owns with his twin sister, coffee and pastries are served up along with his unique blend of sass and snark. This time around is a witty, sexy, and endearing love story about two men who learn how to balance push and pull, both in and out of the bedroom. It is the fourth book in the Road to Blissville series but can be read as a standalone book.
Our story opens with Andy arriving back in Blissville and heading straight for Milo like a heat seeking missile. Milo is not pleased to see the man who ripped out his heart and left him. Except he is pleased to see the love of his life right in front of him in his coffee shop. It's just a shame those two men are both Andy.
Andy knows he did the wrong thing leaving Blissville and Milo behind for his career as a ball player. But now he’s back, all grown up, and knows what, or rather who, he wants. Andy’s new career as a contractor will hopefully give him and Milo the stability and future they need, If only Milo’s heart was saying the same as his body!
So, our scene is set. These guys were in love for real as youngsters. Andy left, but he’s back, and he wants Milo. For good. Unfortunately for Andy’s happily ever after, Milo if furious with him. And has a secret, a pretty big secret. The only other brilliant and perfect detail of this book, is that Andy’s best friend is also Milo’s twin sister,
This book is awesome. I mean really. I read it in one sitting, It has everything! It’s funny, clever, emotive, smart, sexy and a little bit spooky. It also has the perfect set up for the next book in the series.
I love a second chance love story and this one is super!
I had a great time with Andy and Milo. I was curious about them and the author didn't disappointed me. Andy and Milo were in love in high school but when Andy move in college , they broke. For twelve years they stay appart. Andy never came back in Blissville. Twelve years later, he move back and tries to rekindle with his one and only, Milo. I loved them. Milo is amazing, crazy, smartass and adorable. He's completely in love with Andy, but refuses to show it (he fails lol) at first, but Andy is insistant, so Milo agrees for a second chance, but a real one, without secrets. Andy wants Milo, he wanted him for twelve years, but he has a difficult past, the times he spent away wasn't a walk in a beautiful rainbow. He has demons and he's scared of Milo's judgement. But despite all the fears and secrets, he decided that this time around will be different. I loved this book, it was a beautiful read, funny and sweet. I highly recommend this book. It worth every words
I liked the characters, and am kind of a sucker for second chance relationships, but the plot needs to be tightened up. There were a lot of parts that just needed more explanation, and parts that just seemed like they were last minute thoughts and were added even though they didn't make sense. I was also confused with the timeline - especially since they hook up twice in as many days then basically spend two years ignoring each other even though they live in a small town and see each other all the time (and Andy works on a few projects for Milo).
Passionate, emotional, and funny. Milo and Andy are great and when you add their family and friends it becomes so much more. The way the author was able to progressively show their history throughout the story added so much depth that I sank even deeper into Blissville and all the wonderful people that love there. Aimee Nicole Walker even gave us a little glimpse into what could be coming while still leaving us guessing. Fantastically done from start to finish.
Milo and Andy history is a long lost love with lots of misunderstandings. It was frustrating to keep reading how Milo won’t talk it out and decide whether to move forward or forget Andy for two years! But later from that point forward still I failed to understand why they cant disclose their past once they the decided to give it a try to be together.
Aimee knows how to do the sweet and cute and OMG finally!!! I adore Milo and Andy did I feel like slapping them for wasting 2 years most def but I loved it none the less. Defos a one click author for me!!!
I liked seeing the other crew but I missed Josh and Gabe and their Sunday dinners.
A little jumpy from the end if one chapter to the start of the next in a few places, but I guess she didn't want to rehash things covered in other books. Good story, and nice to see Handy Andy and Milo get their HEA.
Could not get on board with Milo's anger. At all. Add in the wishy washy behaviour with both men and half communicating and half running. Unfortunately I'm done with this one.
This was amazing book i couldn't put it down I finished it in 2 days I can't wait for more books from Aimee Nicole Walker of you have read this series you need to.
