Real Actors, Not People is the 8th in the Frannie Shoemaker Campground Mysteries by Karen Musser Nortman and once again it was great to catch up with Frannie and her husband Larry plus Jane Ann and Mickey. Their adventures always include some misadventure, and this one was no exception. The inclusion of the “celebrities” that were filming a reality TV show at their campsite was different; the same intriguing mystery and Frannie trying to solve it was entertaining. Bring on #9! Highly recommended.

Seems like I had to wait an eternity for this new camping mystery with Frannie and the gang. It was just what I needed to start the camping season again.
Loved the reality TV theme and setting in the beautiful UP area.

I have read quite a few books by this author. I especially enjoyed the time travel trailer ones. Her other books do not disappoint as the characters are fun and loveable. Franny and her entourage do get into some crazy situations.

This is the 8th book in the series. Frannie , family and friends are camping again. This time in the UP in the fall which can mean tricky weather from one day to the next. Right after they set up camp the site host comes to tell them that there is going to be a bunch of actors, once big names but not so much now, coming in and they will be film a pilot for a reality tv series. It didn't take long for them to realize none of these actors had camping experience.
First night of camping there is an ice storm and these poor actors are in tents. From there it goes down hill. Some of the actors are hurt and the director is found murdered. Frannie is trying to put the puzzle pieces together with the help of the group. Love these stories. They are page turners and keep you guessing.

Frannie Shoemaker, her husband, and her inlaws have arrived at another campground only to find out their campground will soon become the site of a celebrity reality show. When the celebrities show up, it was obvious they have no previous camping experience. Shortly after the show starts shooting footage, someone associated with the show is found dead. Frannie and her family get pulled into the investigation. Can they help find what really happened?

This series just keeps getting better. I love Frannie and her family and friends. They are realistic, fun, and relatable characters. The mystery is well-plotted, has plenty of suspects, and several twists and turns along the way to the big reveal. This series makes me want to go camping even though I’ve never camped in my life. This is a reflection of how well the book is written.

I listened to the audio version of this book. Narrator Michelle Babb is a gifted storyteller. Babb brings the story to life, allowing the reader to easily visualize what is happening in the book. She has a wonderful tone of voice which helps bring out each character’s personality. I recommend listening to the audio version if you have that option.

Frannie and Larry Shoemaker are out RVing with their friends again, this time in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. They settle in to their campground, the day before a parade of RVs show up, soon to be followed by a tour bus full of has-been celebrities. A reality tv show is going to film there for the next four days.

The actors, of course, had no idea what they were getting themselves into. The assistant producer thought that she was going to be able to ban the other guests from leaving their campers for the entire four days of the filming. There are a variety of conflicts among the former stars--and they are not at all happy when they discover that they'll be required to actually camp, in tents, that they have set up themselves. When Frannie takes a tour in the glass-bottom boat to see the wrecks in Lake Superior, and sees the face of the head producer looking up at her from the water, clearly deceased, well, at least this time she didn't find the body while alone or with only her friends.

The actors, the production crew, and the campground hosts range from cantankerous to friendly, and Frannie and her friends have learned to not do anything obviously dangerous.

Not obviously dangerous.

When the police have arrested a suspect, even if Frannie thinks it's the wrong one, and she and her friends are ready to move on to their next destination, going outside early on the morning of their departure day to get everything picked up and stowed, doesn't seem dangerous. It's not Frannie's fault that the real killer decides to hijack her and her truck and camper in order to get away.

This is another light, fun, enjoyable visit with the Shoemakers and their friends. We continue to learn more about them, as they learn more about themselves and each other. The bonds of family and yeas of friendship are warm and satisfying, and add to the enjoyment of the story.

Michelle Babb is, as always, an excellent narrator.

I received a free copy of this audiobook from the narrator, and am reviewing it voluntarily.

"Who knows what goes on in Hollywood?"
Frannie and Larry Shoemaker really enjoy their camping holidays with family and friends. But frequently their exciting times together are also invigorated by the extra spice of murder, and this anticipated extended autumnal holiday is no exception. The extreme weather conditions also initially reduces their idyllic surroundings to a more unpleasant one of ice and mud. But it is the unexpected discovery that a new reality TV programme is about to be filmed there which really causes the problems, as has been and never made it celebrities gather on the same site to be filmed in Celebrity Campout. Some are nice and some - are dead. If Frannie is there, it has to be murder.

This delicious series is peopled with great characters doing all the normal, and sometimes unconventional, things that everyone does whilst on holiday. They cook, shop, dress up, go sightseeing and argue. And, of course, try to discover which of their ho!okay companions is a killer.
The dialogue is natural, the people realistic, just the experiences rather odd. And this is all enhanced by the exce!lent narration of Michelle Babb, whose warm voice perfectly delivers the story. It has been a long wait for this instalment of camping with the Shoemakers and I sincerely hope that the next foray out with their camping van will be soon.

My thanks to the rights holder of Real Actors, Not People, who, at my request freely gifted me with a complimentary copy. It was, as always, thoroughly enjoyable and recommended for all who enjoy character filled, untaxing, amusing and pleasurable reading with a twist of danger and mystery. And as each story is completely stand alone, all of the books can be read in any order.

This is the eighth book in the series. I have not read any of the others in the series. It is my first time reading this author. I first heard of this book at a Facebook party. I was excited about it because I love camping. I also found it intriguing that the mysteries will most likely move around. I found this to be interesting as locations, victims, suspects and witnesses will be different. I was wondering how that might affect the series and if I should start with the first book. Then I was notified I won a copy of this book.

I was able to enjoy the mystery with no problem at all. Yes there were hints of prior mysteries but nothing that made me feel as if I was left out of the loop. I loved the idea of family and friends going on camping adventures together. I felt right at home with Frannie and the gang. There was no awkwardness of being the outsider wondering about all I missed. It was the welcoming, friendly feeling you really do get from most campers. The reality show aspect was fun. Just imagining some actors out in the “wilds” building fires and living without luxuries was hilarious. I think the author did well with blending what we imagine they are like with what may be realistically more accurate. I don’t want to go into the mystery. I am always afraid of ruining the story. I enjoyed it. I thought it was fairly easy to solve but a fun book to read. I do want to go back and read prior books though it isn’t necessary. I just think the people were fun and the author did a wonderful job bringing the camping experience to me. I found the book to be appropriate for those who enjoy “clean” books.

Review originally published at: https://www.lomeraniel.com/audiobookr...

This time, Frannie and her friends will be sharing the campground with a bunch of old actors and TV crew who are busy recording a reality show. They will witness staged conflicts but the corpse found is very real.

This time, Donna and Rob Nowak join the Shoemakers and the Ferraros. They do not meet snow in this book, but plenty of rain and cold, which creates funny situations among the actors participating in the reality show. The story was well written and it was entertaining, as previous books, but I felt somehow less engaged this time. I am not sure if it was due to the fact that I do not watch TV or because I suspected who the murder was already quite early in the story. I enjoyed the interactions between characters, and the fact that we have Donna in this book, makes for different situations and dialogues than the previous one.

The best part of this audiobooks, and also why I decided to listen to it, was Michelle Babb’s narration. Her casual tone and wonderful character’s interpretations make listening to her narrations a delight. It really matches this kind of book well, emphasizing the light tone of the narrative, and bringing the characters to life. I confess that I would enjoy listening to Michelle Babb’s reading the phone book!

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

I enjoyed this book. It's another action packed hit. I never watch them, to busy listening to audio books but even I have heard of reality tv shows and loved the idea of one being set in a camp ground. Of course if it was set on a camp ground that Frannie and her friends are visiting then something is bound to go wrong and go wrong it did. It makes for a very entertaining story with plenty of twists and bickering, just right for a good cozy mystery if not for the tv. I hope there is more to come in this series because I have enjoyed them all and feel like I know the characters so well.
Frannie and her friends turn up at the latest camp ground to find they are not the only ones putting in an appearance at the site. A new Reality tv show is planning to start filming B list stars and old washed up has been. The production soon takes over the whole site and every time Frannie and the gang turn around they find the producer arguing with some one that is until he ends up dead. Frannie once again promises to stay out of it but when a sudden ice storm hits, she and the gang are out helping the celebrities that were stuck in tents and can't help but ask questions. When the killer realises she is talking to everyone it gets very personal for Frannie just when her family needs her the most. Could this case be camera, action and lights out for Frannie? Who needs tv when you go camping with Frannie?
Another out standing performance by the narrator. One that could have very easily been playing on the screen

Real Actors, Not People (A Frannie Shoemaker Campground Mystery) by Karen Musser Northman is a fun, if lightweight, read. The book takes advantage of the longtime trend of “reality” television programs by having our intrepid band of campers’ current campground invaded by the cast and crew of a potential reality show, Celebrity Campout. There is some real fun to be had at the expense of the so-called celebrities and crew and Frannie is frequently smack in the middle of the action.
While there is a murder and a mystery to be solved, the strength and pleasure of this book, and indeed the entire series, lies primarily in the vitality and interaction of the main characters. They are active, intelligent and enjoy life. This book shows off a very real slice of life and humanity and I enjoyed that very much. I hope the Shoemakers and the Ferraros will have many more adventures.
The narration by Michelle Babb is, as always, well done. I love that I can easily identify the characters based on her intonation. She truly gives the main characters life, especially Frannie.
I recommend this book for those who are looking for a lightweight, enjoyable read that provides some smiles along the way. Four Stars.
I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I was not compensated nor was I required to write a positive review. The opinions stated are solely my own.

Frannie and Larry Shoemaker are taking an extended RV camping tour of Michigan with their relatives (Mickey and Jane Ann Ferraro) and friends (Rob and Donna Nowak). They're somewhat surprised although generally disinterested to learn that their neighbors at one campsite are washed up or D level celebrities who are participating in a celebrity camping reality tv show. Like it or not, following certain events, Frannie and the gang soon find themselves involved with their temporary neighbors, and reality seems far too real and fleeting. I enjoyed my adventure with the Shoemakers and friends, as always, and was especially happy that their dog, Cuba, was along for this trip. It's nice that this author keeps a fresh edge by incorporating contemporary concepts into her storylines. The pace and plot were engaging, and the characters were likable. I'm looking forward to the next installment to this series.

Real Actors, Not People by Karen Musser Nortman is the eighth book in the Frannie Shoemaker mysteries. Another campground...another murder. Frannie once again finds herself smack in the middle of a murder investigation. Frannie and friends find themselves in Upper Michigan (my home state!) in this story. Lots of fun and a good cozy mystery. A reality show is about to begin filming and the actors are characterized as being 'has-been' or 'never were'--and someone has a grudge. With some twists and turns to the plot, the author keeps you guessing to the end as to the culprit. Nortman's Frannie Shoemaker books are fun to read (or listen to as this reviewer did). The narrator, Michelle Babb, does a nice job of giving characters their unique voice, making for an enjoyable listening experience. I've enjoyed this series and hope there are more books to come. I received a complimentary copy of the audiobook and was not required to write a review. The opinions are my own.

Real Actors, Not People
The Frannie Shoemaker Campground Mysteries, Book 8
By: Karen Musser Nortman

Frannie Shoemaker and her gang of camping buddies are headed to the UP in Michigan. After a rainy arrival they are settled in until a surprise group of non- campers arrive for a secret project. The listener is treated to seanic descriptions of the area.

It doesn't take long for the adventure turns into another Frannie investigation. There is never a dull moment as the group interacts with the others. A fun listen, so much so that I listened twice in a row!!! I hope Frannie and friends will be back with more adventures.

The narration was well done. The characters were well portrayed. Michelle Babb brings these adventures to life!!!

So many names

I enjoyed the story and it kept me guessing for a while. There's a group of 3 couples who, it appears, go on camping adventures together and Frannie has a reputation for stumbling onto a murder in each book of the series. A great premise for cozy mysteries. I haven't read any of the others. In this one, they share the campground with a group of has-been celebrities there to make a reality TV series about camping. Unfortunately this brings a whole group of further names into play. Then there's the host couple who oversee the camp ground, plus an extra camper who's camping elsewhere but gets caught up in the story as well. There's a sheriff, of course, and people in the restaurant, and the bartender, and ...
It's a fairly short story and all those names are confusing. Still, I liked it. Well written.

I listened to the audio version of this book. I really love this series. It's not what I usually go for, but Frannie and her friends and their camping really appeal to me for some reason. I love the whole concept of preparing meals and eating together and just being out in nature and exploring.
Of course, where Frannie is, a dead body shows up. This time it's someone involved with the reality TV show that is filming in the campground Frannie and her friends are staying. Frannie is on it!
I was trying to figure out what was different about this story and decided maybe it was that Frannie wasn't as "involved" with the police officers investigating. I'm not real sure, but there just didn't seem to be as much involvement in this story.
I enjoyed Ms. Babb's narration, as usual.

Frannie and Larry Shoemaker and their friends are on yet another adventure which will be exciting for sure. Let’s bring on a group of “has been actors” for a reality camping show with not so nice producers. What could go wrong? Everything apparently. Let’s say, storms, near death attempts and murder for good measure. Frannie is on the case when they find a body on their, see through bottom boat tour. Will Frannie be able to convince her husband Larry whom she believes is the real killer before it’s too late? Find out in book 8 “Real Actors not People” in the Frannie Shoemaker mysteries.

Thankfully Michelle Babb a very talented narrator and makes the characters seem so real that you should know them as your friends.

I received the audio version of this book for my honest review.:

The Shoemakers and friends take a camping trip to get rid of the real world for a bit only to find they are shooting a reality TV show in the campground. But when the accidents start than a death it all gets very real.

I love these Frannie Shoemaker audios. Narrator Michelle Babb has become the voice of Frannie and she is wonderful. I love the action and suspense in these mysteries and how Frannie can stumble upon dead people. I also like the real life going ons in the campgrounds, people not prepared or even have a clue what they are doing, to the seasoned pros. These are just plain wonderful books or if you are like me audios, and I can't wait for more.

My camping experiences were never like this.

I love Frannie and crew. They are interesting and lively characters.
This episode of camping adventures took place in Michigan's U.P. I'm a troll and have visited the books setting several times so it made it even more fun to read.
The drama and murder came about because of a reality tv show being produced in the same campground as the group of 6 friends were staying. Oh yeah, there is a kidnapping and police shoot out, too.
I couldn't put the book down. That's nothing new though.
What was new was the number of mistakes throughout the book. A new proofreader needs to be hired.

Oh how I've missed Frannie and friends!

It's wonderful to be back on the road with the sleuthing group as they, again, start a relaxing camping vacation! Murder raises its dreaded head once more and we're off!!!!!

I have been to the UP and find it to be as beautiful and serene as depicted in the story!

This adventure brings twists and turns . It is entertaining and a page turned at the same time. I've read all of Frannie's adventures and can never get enough!!! When will next book be released and where will it take us? I can hardly wait to see!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

These audio books are just such a relief from everything going on right now. I can just imagine that I am on holiday - hopefully without the drama and murder. The characters work so well together. The descriptions of the scenery are amazing, it just puts you in such a good place.

But the best thing is Michelle's narration - I would listen to anything by her she just makes every character different and is amazing.

I enjoyed book 8 of "The Frannie Shoemaker Campground Mysteries". Frannie and her friends meet up with a group of almost forgotten actors who have agreed to be a part of a "reality show" that involved camping. The story had moments of humor as this group had little experience with what camping entails. Michelle Babb's narration was entertaining, and her performance added to the tale as her varied voices bring life to the different characters. I was given a free copy of the audiobook, and I have voluntarily posted this review.

Even if you've never read any of these Campground Mysteries, you won't feel out of the loop. This time the group of friends are vacationing in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan when they encounter cold wet weather, an invasive television crew, and murder, followed by even worse weather and. .. almost did a spoiler! Anyway, it is a good read made even better by having Michelle Babb to bring the characters to life with her narration.

Real Actors, Not People (A Frannie Shoemaker Campground Mysteries Book Eight) was another good read by Karen Musser Nortman. While Frankie and her friends are camping, they find it is a production site for a new reality show. Unfortunately there are accidents and even a murder on the set. Frankie and the gang try to solve the mystery of what happened. Michelle Babb did a great job of narrating. I can’t wait to read more by Karen Musser Nortman.

Loved it and didn't want it to end.

This series is so great. If you like camping, the outdoors, or adventure you can't help but to get pulled into this writer. She's that good. You took us to many places I will never get to see and described them so well. Loved each of the characters, they blend and bounce off each other and seem to effortlessly do so, no matter their personalities or family ties. One thing I would have liked, is more suspects in this, the eighth book.

Yeah

I love all these books. My husband and I have a small motor home and made a 3000 mile trip a few years ago in it. We were gone three weeks and left our home in Texas and went to Loretta Chapel in Santa Dr first then North to Mount Rushmore and the West to Seattle and South to Laughlin, Nevada. We enjoy traveling and seeing different parts of our beautiful country. Praise God we have never come up in a murder.

I've enjoyed most of the books in this series. For some reason I just didn't care for this one as much, possibly because it revolved around a reality TV show. I'm not a fan of those shows. I don't know that I felt like I knew much about the other characters either before the murder took place. I did finish it but I just didn't like it as much as some of the other books.

Another Nortman winner

I've read most of her books and I like the murder plots all tied to camping adventures. This one was related to a reality show filming at their campground. Frankie and her friends always figure out the motive and get caught in the middle of things while trying to have a restful vacation. Good clean cozy mystery.

Love this camping mystery series!

I really enjoyed this series and all the mysteries Frannie and friends got involved in. Also enjoyed all the camping tips and recipes at the end of each book. Felt quite sad when I came to the last one as felt I was parting from camping friends. Hoping that there are more to come.
