In this elite school… locked high away in the Colorado mountains… it’s boys only. He’s a loner. Sebastian “Bash” Lowell is used to not fitting in or going with the flow. They call him a punk in the press, so he does his best to live up to the title. He’s practically a professional outcast at this point, having changed schools so many times he’s lost count. Bash learned long ago it’s far better to stand out than it is to fit in, so he’s made sure everything about him screams “back-off." Finding friends is more hassle than it’s worth when he knows he’s going to be gone again at his parents’ next whim. Bash fought to get into the elite, exclusive, private school to avoid his publicity-hungry parents who use him to fuel gossip and fend off far-reaching rumors. Having learned a few tricks from his vicious, media-savvy mother, Bash broke a few laws, ruffled the right feathers, and was exiled to Castle Pines. Now he gets to finish his high school career in peace and quiet, and in the same damn place. All Bash wants is to graduate and get on with his life outside the limelight. No attachments, school only, so he can focus on getting into his dream college. Nothing prepared him for Rutledge Darby. He’s a legacy. Rutledge “Edge” Alexander Darby IV has had everything in his life handed to him on a silver platter. They call him the preppy-billionaire-heir in the press, although he resists his title at every possible opportunity. Edge is American royalty, his last name synonymous with wealth and privilege. His family crest adorns the walls of the elite private school he’s attended since before he could walk. Castle Pines is all he’s ever known—a kingdom he’s ruled since birth. Everyone in his world wants something from him, and Edge isn't the type to give anything away for free. His life is simple. No attachments, no entanglements, and the only person he trusts to watch his back is his best friend. For their senior year, they fully plan to do as they please and raise as much hell as possible. Edge longs for something to surprise him. He's desperate for the unexpected. He’s ready for something real. Nothing prepared him for Bash Lowell.
Imogene Kash in an international bestselling romance author who writes across multiple genres. She’s never met a romance category she didn’t like. That includes the exciting and ever-growing world of M/M romance!
She has an obsession with opposites attracting and enemies-to-lovers love stories, which is why so many of her books feature unlikely lovers. For Imogene, those are the best kind of reads and stories to write about.
When she’s not binge-watching Criminal Minds, Snapped, or glued to old episodes of Forensic Files, Imogene takes full advantage of living in the most beautiful state in the U.S. She’ll leave it up to you to guess which one that might be.
Hint: it is full of wonderful, big mountains and is home to more craft beer than any one person can sample in a lifetime.
Castle Pine a Private all-boys school where the sons of the rich and powerful attend so of course, they had to be spoiled rotten. Edge the top alpha of the school has an interesting first encounter with new all tattooed student Bash. They couldn't have been more different but dam their chemistry was hot and undeniable. I love their banter and the chase Edge gave Bash. It's always fun to see the bad boy fall to his knees and give into love.
If I could describe this book with one word I would say ”entertaining” and it sure was! Was it OTT? You bet. Filled with drama? Yup! Add to that betrayal and jealousy I'm telling there was never a dull moment. But there was also a beautiful I've fallen for you and I'll do anything for you kinda love that had me with hearts in my eyes.
Please please, dear author give us Mac’s story next I'm dying to read about Theo and Klein too, that particular story is going be interesting, to say the least. ♥️
Ok, this story was exactly what I enjoy in a M/M novel: charismatic relationships, hot guys, even hotter sex and a story that keeps me flipping pages.
I also loved the author’s writing style, smart, engaging, and most of all edited – lol. It helped that the story immediately caught my attention. And the insta-attraction/lust didn’t bother me either. It helped that I was intrigued by the storyline.
A boys only “boarding school” for the rich and their naughty off-spring. Not all were naughty but you get my drift. Most boys came from rich backgrounds, and were used to getting their way, and just loved to have fun – in and out of bed.
Apparently the author drew from Gossip Girl, and I can see similarities in the almost non-existing parental supervision and the rich backgrounds. Additionally these boys pretty much did what and whom they wanted. And the teachers and principal played to the tune of one Rutledge “Edge” Alexander Darby IV.
The novel also gave me a Tijan feel, with its typical YA/NA high school drama, less than Tijan but still, very much in the same direction. I’m big fan of anything that reminds me of Tijan, so I’m not complaining here – I’m more like “I WANT MORE”!!
I loved the opposites attract theme. Even though both Bash and Edge came from the same rich background, Bash worked on his Bad Boy persona to get his way, whereas Edge was pretty straight-laced. Bash lost some of his edgyiness throughout the book, and turned into mush every time Edge was around. But I really liked their relationship develop, and I can see how Bash’s softer side was exactly what Edge needed. It was a bit sad that his bleached hair, black nail polish, tattooed and pierced persona was more like a mask he donned, rather than a character trait that went bone deep.
The Prep and the Punk was a perfect read for a Saturday morning, nothing too deep, but sexy, with a good amount of teenage drama, and a bit of OTTness, but still engaging, captivating and just satisfying.
Something that should be mentioned is that the sex scenes were explicit and HOT!!
I received a copy of this book from the publisher for free in exchange for an honest review. My opinions have not been influenced by the publisher or the author.
Very addictive and entertaining read...and a quite good one at that.
The style was similar to the Damaged Like Us series by the Richie sisters, and had a definite Gossip Girl vibe. The characters are in high school...a very elite high school. But they didn’t come off as high schoolers. At least not your typical high schooler.
I could’ve gone for a bit more build up before the main characters got together, as it started out a bit enemies to lovers. But I like how everything played out once they got together. And they were smoking hot together. #buttvirginforthewin
I certainly appreciate the lack of high school drama and angst...directly between the main characters anyways. There was some of that typical high school drama - petty jealousy, backstabbing and such. But that was all part of the entertainment.
I’m intrigued by several of the secondary characters. And I’m reaaaaaally hoping we get more books. Cutter and the cop? Mac? The other roommates?
This is apparently not a new author - as the authors note leads us to believe writing is something she does full time and she’s no stranger to MM. However she chose to use a pseudonym with this particular type of book?! A few names come to mind but no definites. I’m sure I’ll be completely shocked if I ever find out what other name(s) she writes under. *shrugs*
An ok read. A little bit OTT and insta-lovish for my taste. Highly entertaining and hot though. If you were a fan of don't think twice, just go for this!
This is a pretty good sleeper hit. I randomly came across it and thought I would give it a try. The author looked new but according to the info in the back of the book, apparently the author is far from unknown or new... but who it might be is a question. The writing is distinctive but it wasn't familiar to me. Whoever it is has a good editor which is always a plus in this genre.
I think this book is in the vein of Damaged Like Us by Krista Ritchie in that it sorta tells and shows what's going on so time moves fast and slow depending on the paragraph and the characterization is similar. If you like that series, I think you'll like this one. The writing is also dual POV like DLU but both boys are the same age here. I expected more of a PG-13 vibe because of the YA element but that was not the case. This is full on erotica where necessary.
The author says she was inspired to write an LGBTQ Gossip Girl type series and although that was never a show I watched, I can easily see what she meant. This has all the hallmarks and similarities to every early Fox, WB or CW show...this one is just set in an all boys school for the gay kids of the richest of the rich to be stashed away at that includes explicit sexual situations and very little adult supervision.
I'll jump on the next book, happily. I'm ready to see what Mac accomplishes with his project boys and for Cutter to pull his head our of his ass.
I could start, once again, by talking about the writing but that's not the reason why I wanted to share my review on The Prep and the Punk with you. Although the writing is very fluent and makes you want to read on and on, the main thing I loved about this story is the diversity.
Yes, it's a queer romance. Both main characters - of which we get the POV's too - are gay. Even better, the side characters all seem to be part of the LGBTQIA+-family as well! I'm saying seem since there's some questioning rep going on there as well, which is something we rarely see in books. I pretty much started applauding once I found out - the baby did not like.
When it comes to the characters and their relationships.. I truly didn't expect to like them all so much. Sure, I had one huge issue - more about that later on - but I totally loved how Bash and Edge's chemistry, their bond evolved and grew throughout the story. They stumbled, fell and picked themselves back up. They had to fight one another, themselves and others to get where they wanted to be and I thought that beautiful. So, even though there was a whole lot of detailed smut, it didn't take away from the story at all! And that, in my book, is worth mentioning since other smutty books tend to lose themselves in all the sex and stop caring about the actual story, the characters and their feelings. That didn't happen here.
It wasn't weak to ask for support. It didn't make me a failure to need someone to lean on occasionally.
Like I said, there's one thing I really, really didn't like and that's.. Bash. He was supposed to be my favorite character. A tattooed, gay boy finding his way in an all boys school? Oh, and pierced, sassy and bad-ass! Let's not forget about that! I could totally see him becoming one of my favorite characters ever. That is, until he turned into a big puddle of Edge-loving goo overnight and totally lost his bad boy vibes. I honestly didn't like that, couldn't like that and.. got annoyed by it? I can get bad boys having a gooey center and being softies once you get to know them but the change was so sudden and his entire bad boy-vibe disappeared entirely.. It felt wrong? And I hated it because I really wanted to like every single aspect of this book!
If you're into smut and you don't mind reading an M/M romance set in high school, you'll definitely want to pick this one up! Although I had that one issue with this book, I still ended up loving it so, so much and cannot wait to read more about those characters in the future!
I actually thought I would enjoy this book, but I couldn't care less about the two main characters Edge and Bash. This story would be much better if the main characters were Edge and his best friend Cutter instead.
I always get frustrated when I read something feeling like one of the main characters should be with someone else instead.
Other thing I didn't like is how these boys like to say all the time how dangerous they are, when in fact they're just being lame. It's like 13 year old mean girls. But that's not the main issue with the book. The lack of interest in the two MCs it's what bothered me the most.
Usually I dislike a MC allowing the ow/om to touch/kiss them while they’re in a relationship with the other MC.
I suppose its considered cheating when the om laid one on the H and the H doesn’t pull away. In this case he didn’t respond to the kiss. But we get his POV so we know he didn’t enjoy the kiss at all. It was hard to read, but necessary; so as much as I wished it didn’t happen, I didn’t doubt the H’s feelings or commitment to the H.
EXCERPT: “I have never felt an instant attraction like that. You fascinate me. I love that you actually believe you don’t stand out like a brilliant light in the dark.” His pale eyebrows lifted and a soft smile played across his mouth. “And it doesn’t have anything to do with your ink. It’s what’s inside of you. It’s that soft heart that’s been bruised too many times. It’s the creative spark that makes your eyes glow. It’s the way you accept people, despite their faults. It’s the way you love, even though no one showed you how.” His hands skated over my short hair as I gasped and blinked back the sudden rush of tears.”
4.5 Stars This book was so much more than I was expecting, I’ve been so busy in my day to day I’ve not had the chance to read in the last few months...but I couldn’t put this one down! I love it when I just sink into a book and the world becomes a bit fuzzy, my mind can sink into the book...it’s the best kind of unplugging. I loved Bash and Edge, I really could fan girl over both of them, but I’m no longer a *cough* girl, so that would be a bit sad I’m afraid. As much as a supporting cast can distract from a story, here it intrigued me. Mac is so interesting, he seem like a nightmare and yet you know he is going to be one hell of a story. Cutter with his shifting virtues in this story has such possibility, I’m excited to read more.
5 adorable stars! This is something I would highly recommend and this truly is an undiscovered gem.
For the Plot, I give this a 5/5. It had a great build and didn't pressure the slow burn romance that I am usually inclined to. Not saying that it moved quickly. It was more like things snapped into place where they needed to, WHEN they needed to, without things feeling rushed.
Character development 5/5. This I REALLY don't want to spoil. Clearly this author knew what they were doing!
Supporting characters 5/5. I didn't see this coming, but oh man am I glad this came into play. It kept my intrigue of what I was getting myself into. And yes, there are a few laugh out loud moments that keeps you heavily invested.
Happy For Now? That may be the only lingering question. The ending didn't quite have a cliff hanger ending, but it did leave the door wide open for other possibilities. There are few untied loose ends I would love to see taken care of, eventually. I do see this author has something cooking up, whatever may come next. I am looking forward to it!
Great read! I am so glad to have discovered and experienced this <3
Found this one through KU early this morning and devoured it!!
One of he best M/M books I have read in a while and it looks like it will be a series which I am super excited about.
This is a fun, story about a PREP aka Rutledge “Edge” Alexander Darby IV who is just one of those guys that gets everything he wants, when he wants it except Sebastian “Bash” Lowell aka Punk.
Bash does not want to have anything to do with Edge, he just wants to keep his head down and get through the year at the all boys school.
But Edge is not having it and oh how he goes after Bash but when he catches him, he gets way more than he bargained for.
This book is sizzling hot and oh my gosh, the birthday party scene. The birthday scene took my heart and melted it completely into mush!! SOO GOOD!!
PERFECT book to start the weekend...!! STRONGLY SUGGEST!!!
I gotta say, i was attracted to read this book by the title and the cover. And hello, M/M? Count me in! I really liked almost everything about this book, except their age. I think if they would have been already in college would have been perfect. I think them still being teenagers was too much for all the seriousness of their relationship. I could see them in the future together, being already in college, but not high school. You don’t really know what you want at 18. I might not make sense, but it just didn’t feel right. Except this aspect, I really enjoyed reading this. Can you please hurry with the next book? Please?
3.5 stars rounded down. Highly unrealistic boarding school M/M about two wealthy but neglected sons who have a steamy and drama-laden romance. It was cute, but veered into the ridiculous at times.
I just loved this one. it wasn't perfect but it was different in some ways. First it wasn't enemies to lovers per se, no one hated each other to begin with, no one was mean and hateful which was refreshing. it also wasn't insta love which I hate. you can say it was an insta like and I enjoyed watching this two growing into a relationship. I also liked the Cutter situation and the way that was an issue outside the relationship they both had to handle. a really fun not conventional YA read and I loved it.
Well wasn't this a delight! What a cracking way to start a new series. I really enjoyed this. Mac is probably my favourite and I cant wait to see how his story pans out.
I liked this book a lot. Obviously, I read it one day and I don’t skim when I read unless the book is boring. This would have been a 5 star book except there were many issues left unresolved. It didn’t feel like a cliffhanger because Edge and Dash had established they loved each other. Other things were left for the next book. That makes me sad because there is no next book and this is the first mm romance by this author. I have so many books on my kindle waiting for me to read them that chances are if a sequel comes out I’ll never know.
