When Death Knocks
(Conjuring a Coroner #3)
by S.C. Stokes
Casey is a witch that works at the coroner's office. She gets visions often from touching the dead and that helps solve crimes. But she also gets visions from alive people too. She gets a vision from an important, and rich, contractor. Someone is going to kill him. Who? When? Now she wonders if her visions are set in stone or can she change them. Exciting story.

“When Death Knocks” finds Casey attending the funerals of the 18 officers killed during the siege at the police department by the Shinigami. Captain West is heartbroken but send out a clear message that he and his department will be going after the people responsible.

Casey has a vision of a local, high profile contractor being thrown off of a high rise building. She goes to the construction site to warn him that someone wants him dead but after meeting the arrogant prick she wants to kill him too. When she arrives back at the precinct Captain West informs her that she is free to go back to work at the coroner’s office or she can stay at the precinct. She is conflicted and has only a few hours to make her decision.

As Casey shares her vision with Vida and Bishop they begin following clues of the case. Unfortunately, the ADI calls Casey into their lair to find out what happened during the attack on the precinct. She advises them that the Shinigami are planning to attack New York but they don’t believe her. She walks out.

This read is full of intriguing moments and characters that makes you want to either cheer them on or throttle them. Either way it is one entertaining tale. This series is not to be missed if you are a fan of the paranormal. Casey, Bishop and Vida are quickly becoming three of my favorite characters l.

Good

When Kasey has a vision of a prominent businessman’s death, she rushes to try and prevent it from occurring. Unfortunately, she always seems to be a step behind, and the enemies that attacked her once before, are not only involved, but appear to be able to predict her moves…

After her near-death experience, Kasey has come to realize that there is a lot more going on in the arcane world than she has realized before- and it’s a handicap that keeps coming back to haunt her.
Not to mention that she is always on the go in this book, with very little rest. That makes for an entertaining and action packed read for us, but also the suspicion that not everything goes to plan!
As the vision Kasey has had since she was a child gets closer, a number of events in this book tie in, and leave her with some answers and just as many more questions.
An enjoyable addition to the series, this is a fast and furious ride, with some revelations about the ongoing background story and plenty of action packed mystery solving.
Recommended for those who enjoy urban fantasy and mystery packaged in one book!

When Death Knocks - Conjuring a Coroner Bk 3 - Written Sam Stokes
Murder, Visions, mystery and the destruction of NYC, can it be stopped?

When a vision of the future reveals the brutal murder of a prominent businessman, Kasey is forced to face the question that has plagued her all her life. Is the future set in stone, or can it be changed?
Until now Kasey has only used her power to solve murders that have already occurred. Now a man marches unknowingly toward his death. Can Kasey solve the case and save his life, or will her choices seal his fate? If you love supernatural suspense or paranormal detective series, then don't miss this pulse-pounding urban fantasy adventure.

What did I like? As the story continues this book is so packed with action, mystery, murders, visions, and one hot little Witch. Kasey has her hands full with all the action and reactions that she gets involved in. I love the sassy, independent woman that is trying her best to save everyone!

What will you like? Besides the pulse-pounding action that Kasey has going for her, you are going to love the team that she is building for support as she had felt so alone before. They are all working to save her city. The storyline surges with the mystic world all going against her. Watch as she leads her companions on this unbelievable ride in saving people and putting the bad guys away. All the while she is working with a loaded gun while the Arcane Ministry feels like they are against her. Kasey is hell-bent on solving the magical mystery that is building around the destruction of her beloved NYC. As you read, you feel like your right there with her as the author's style of descriptive descriptions is so lifelike. The research and work that he has done to bring Kasey to life are felt throughout the book. I received this from the author as a member of the ARC team for an honest review with no other compensation.

S.C. Stokes’ When Death Knocks is a gripping addictive third book addition to his totally fantastic Conjuring a Coroner series. I love Kasey and love watching her deal with everything thrown at her while she continues to develop. Indeed, anyone who enjoys great supernatural suspense, paranormal tales, detective stories or urban fantasy adventures is bound to love this book. Full of the promised “pulse-pounding” action and with a well-written plot and really wonderfully characters, this book is pure enjoyment. But for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review to my husband from my hospital bed I could go on and on with praises - the book definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that the book is most definitely one to read, it is easy to highly recommend. I’m definitely looking forward to the next book in this series.

I have really enjoyed S C Stokes series so far. His third book "When Death Knocks" was a little bit slower for me because I wasn't excited about the subject of the mystery but don't get me wrong I still enjoyed the book and it is definitely worth the read. Kasey has a vision of a business man dying at a high rise under construction and she races to find out who it is and to save his life. A lot of information is thrown at her and she has a short time limit to find out who is trying to kill the businessman, why, and what is the benefit of his death. There are at least three story lines pieced together that Kasey has to unravel to get to the truth in time to help. Pick this one up because there is a theme that connects all the books that makes it exciting.
I was giving a copy of the book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Book 3 opens as the 9th district recovers from the fighting after the ending of Book 2. The story follows Kasey again as she tries to discover who, what, when, why NY is going to be destroyed. There was plenty of action, murder, bad guys and good guys and a fun mystery that must be solved to keep the body count low and stop it from climbing. Just a great story and with lots of random stuff, or is it. I liked the mystery and the twists as normal and the magic world collide a bit. Just a good story and great entry to this series that keeps me entertained with its good writing, plot and clean story (if you ignore the murder part). I love this series and thought this book a great addition to the series.

As an NYPD officer, Kasey also holds a bit of magic. She foresees events that are set to happen sometime in the near future regarding the death of a high rise big builder and business man. In this third book in this series, Kasey tries to circumvent what was about to happen but during her investigation finds opposition at almost every turn. Many twists and turns later and lots of action in between, Kasey finds the outcome of her vision totally baffling. And thus the story goes. I found this story very entertaining. I love the magical aspect as well as Kasey’s premonitions. Being part of the NYPD also brings another level of entertainment. Great for paranormal lovers.

A vision, murder and greed

When she gets a vision of a businessman's death, she does everything to stop it. Will her efforts be enough? A indiscriminate bomber, death and shootouts follow. Why is the building he was a developer for so important? Who is the secret partner? Will she stay as an ME or will she go back to her old job? Can she keep the friends she has made at the precinct safe? Who is behind the killings? A great fast plot, dealing with drugs, greed and indiscriminate murder. The characters are terrific and as you learn more about them the more you feel drawn to them. Will she and Bishop find time for romance? Is John a possible choice? More please!

More contractions please

I'm liking the story, plotline, and characters, but the conversational prose is somewhat difficult to read.
There is seldom any use of contractions, even in plain speech between friends. This makes every conversation seem oddly formal, and not at all like people actually speak. It breaks the rhythm of the story. Using a more formal writing style in the narrative is fine, even if it is a first person narrative. In conversation it seems forced at best, fake at worst.
One star removed for conversational awkwardness. This will not stop me from continuing the series. Tom out

Not my favorite Kasey book

A vision of the death of a real estate developer, Sal, leads Kasey and Bishop on a chase of individuals who would want him dead. His family, wife, son and daughter, are foremost. But In Kasey’s visions it was two “thugs” who were throwing Sal off of a high rise. When they interrupt a killer apparently hired by Sal’s wife Kasey wonders what her vision was trying to show.

Kasey

Kasey sees a Sal Longstroud being thrown off a building in one of her visions. Bishop puts him in protective custody. His building is also in one of Casey's visions of the destruction of New York. It isn't damaged. A bomb blows off the top of the Longstrouds exclusive apartment house killing 22 people. What a mess....... Never a dull moment.

Kasey has just killed 3 of the 4 Shinigami in the previous book. Now she sees a vision of Sal Langstrode being thrown off his partially built tower. Can she prevent it? Are the Shinigami involved? His building is the only one untouched in her vision of New York City being destroyed ... Why? How is it related? Nonstop action and twists and turns.

I have really enjoyed the first three books in this series. The action never stops and the characters are fantastic as the three main ones stop at nothing to save NYC from total abliteration. Can Kasey, Bishop and Vida find out in time who wants the destruction of this beautiful city? I for one cheering them on!

An enjoyable crime thriller full of twists and turns I never saw coming. I enjoyed the mystery and trying to figure out what’s going to happen all the while gaining more clues as to the bigger plot.

Fast paced action adventure thriller. Can Kasey use her gift to save a life? Kasey, Bisop and Vida formed a crime busting unit, that uses Kasey's power to narrow down the clues. Looking forward to the rest of the series that is full of twists and turns.

Once again though it wasn't easy Kasey has come out on top. But, she still doesn't have all of the answers to be able to stop the destruction in her vision of the future. Another real page turner well written. Definitely looking forward to more!

I am seriously loving this series.
So many levels of events going on and we are finally being rewarded with uncovering more of them in this book.

Some pretty grisly scenes so not suitable for younger readers.

Book 3

Jam packed full of action, magic and mayhem book 3 (When Death Knocks) is TERRIFIC! Female lead (thank you Sam), great plot and supporting characters. So far each book has been REALLY good and each one gets better! As I've said before, not a coffee shop or animal familiar in sight! Good job!

I like the action elements in this story. I would like it if there was more of a fantasy element, but entertaining none the less.
