Abuse, love and a small amount of redemption all in one thrill-ride of a book.... Tommy Johnson was raised in the deep south before mental healthcare was accepted and readily available. Raised by an abusive, alcoholic father, Tommy is accused of murder, institutionalized, and finally released back to an unsuspecting world that had all but forgotten about him.
"You got to let him go," Tommy said. "Not till he is completely cleansed," the old man said without looking at Tommy. "You’re not cleansing him, you are killing him," Tommy said without thought. In a split second, Tommy was looking at the roof of the barn. He never saw the blow coming. Tommy cringed in fear as the old man picked up the poker.
The only person who remembers what Tommy went through is his sister, who was abused by Tommy and their father. She had lived a good life surrounded by a loving family, but she is determined to go back and save Tommy and free herself from the nightmares and the guilt that had lingered her entire life from leaving Tommy in an impossible situation.
