Resolute I had no doubt I would love Landslide, because I love Kathryn Nolan’s writing. I will always happily go where Kathryn leads me. And Landslide took me back to Big Sur, the setting for the beautiful Bohemian. Hirsute Viking Man Bun Gabriel Shaw was made to worship at the feet of a beautiful woman. Longing for THE ONE, romantic love has escaped him. Knowing he was made to be a husband, to cherish and care for a woman, Gabe despairs of ever finding what his parents have, what his siblings have already found. Bartending at The Bar in Big Sur, which has been in his family for generations, he takes to the trails and revels in the beauty of the redwoods to clear his mind. Resolute in his pursuit of the good life on the wild coast. Josie Torres is perfectly fine with her long-standing rule of one night stands only, thank you very much. A city girl from East LA, craving the bright lights, the sounds and the colors of her Mexican heritage and neighborhood. Existing within the bosom of her family, friends and work. Knowing with ever fiber of her being that true love does not exist for her. And that’s okay. Resolute in her pursuit of the good life among the glitterati. Resolute. Both Gabe and Josie are resolute in their desires, their beliefs, their dreams. Until they’re caught in a Landslide. A landslide of emotion, joyous fun, soul wracking discussions, and sexual fantasies. The improbable and impossible become what ifs? And the resolution starts cracking.
I love everything this woman writes! What a great follow up to Bohemian! The story was great, the characters fabulous, the sexy time super sexy! Gabe and Josie are hot and sweet and the epilogue will satisfy you completely. Five stars! Highly recommend!
God, I wish there were more books with gentle femdom (like this one). I am so very tired of sex clubs and extreme punishment, extreme pain and extreme everything.
I Enjoyed Gabe and Josie's story a lot. I love California in general, and Big sur and LA in particular so it added to my enjoyment. I took a star off because their HEA (or maybe HFN describes it better) takes more suspension of disbelief than I can muster. It's not completely impossible (I'd've given it fewer stars) but to me it seems pretty darn unbelievable.
Bohemian was my top read of 2017 and it stayed with me ever since. I’ve re-read it countless times, wished I had the talent to write it more often than I care to admit and recommended it to all that would listen. So, when I knew Landslide was on my Kindle I was slightly nervous. Would it live up to my adoration for Bohemian? Can I just say, hell yes!
Kathryn was born to write. I could tell that she poured her passion into every word. Planned the book meticulously. Focused on where she wanted to take Gabe and Josie with fine detail. It was quite simply a joy to read.
Thank you, Kathryn. Never stop writing. It’s in your soul.
With the surrounding beauty of Big Sur as the backdrop, Gabe Shaw and Josie Torres are complete opposites with different agendas. Gabe is amazing - fun, sweet, supportive, sexy. Josie is sassy, strong, independent, loving. They are both characters with depth and maturity and not without flaws, but that’s what makes them so easy to connect with. I love their easy, flowing interaction and conversation, the attraction and chemistry. The vividness of the writing puts you in the scene and allows you to feel the emotions rather than just reading them from the page. I wanted to be at The Bar having a drink and listening to the local gossip or sitting on the porch listening to the sounds of East L.A. There’s so much to enjoy from the beauty of the story to the supporting characters, everything just comes together and works. It left my heart full and a smile on my face.
This was the first full length book I have read from this author as I had only read one of her novellas before this. I will definitely be reading more of her books.
I enjoyed this book and as it is a standalone and loved Josie and Gabe's story but will be reading Bohemian to get Cal and Lucia's story.
When your book babes read and author you need to listen. I am glad they had told me many times to read this authors books. I now will not hesitate to one click her books in the future!
Landslide was absolutely incredible!! Love being able to go back to Big Sur and continue on this wonderful ride that the author started back in Bohemian. Such an amazing and beautiful story that couldn't have been more perfect for Gabe & Josie. I truly didn't want it to end!
This will definitely will be going on my favorites list of 2018!
Landslide is a journey of self discovery. This story teaches you to move beyond the past and open yourself to your true desires. It’s learning to realize that you are enough. You are entitled to be who you want to be. It’s realizing the only judgment that matters is your own.
It’s not just a story of two lovers and what they mean to each other but what each one means to themselves and how to love themselves. What contentment and home mean to you and that sometimes home can be anywhere (even just within yourself) if that’s where you want to be. We are free to create our own rules and make our lifestyles however we want them to look like. . The title of this book represents more than just a sliding down mass of rock and earth from a mountain. While reading this book I thought of the song by Fleetwood Mac. Stevie Nicks sings, “ I took my love, I took it down, Climbed a mountain and I turned around, And I saw my reflection on the snow covered hills, Til the landslide brought it down, Oh mirror in the sky what is love? Can the child within my heart rise above? Can I sail through the changin’ ocean tides? Can I handle the seasons of my life?” This seems to be the same questions and searching that Josie and Gabe are going through. Landslides bring us down everyday in all facets of our lives. Can we handle those seasons? And time, does time make us bolder to take those chances? Sorry to go off but this book and that song seem to mirror each other a lot.
This story provides, depth, feeling, angst, it was soul searching and beautiful. It stirred inside me an emotional tsunami.
My first book was Bohemian by this lovely author. Honestly, I didn’t think that book could be matched. I will never be a Clairovoyant because I was wrong. Although, Landslide takes a slightly different approach it touches on some very real issues. Both Josie and Gabe are loving beings ( even their names are celestial) searching and surviving their own landslides each one looking separately to rebuild themselves. One is looking to open their vistas (or so they think) and the other is trying to build a wall to keep themselves from crumbling again.
I don’t do spoilers so you will have to read this book. Trust me you need to read this book. Yes, it is a love story on so many levels; family, friends, and lovers. You get the heat ( really good heat). It’s hot and may be different then you’re expecting but it’s done so beautifully you will cry from the intensity. It’s not lascivious. It’s gorgeous. My heart palpitated and I cried, literally cried. It touched my mind, heart and soul. The author must know true love cause she’s very adept at how to articulate both love and true beauty, the beauty that shines within. When that happens it always shines out. Yes, these characters are flawed, who isn’t, but that’s what keeps this story real. Sometimes we think we know what we want and we become intractable because we’re always right. Then in a moment (an who knows how long a moment is?) we find the path we were taking wasn’t the most direct but while traveling that road we stumble on to find what we didn’t know we were looking for. And that makes all the difference.
This is a book that deserves to be read and you deserve to read it. We all have our own landslides ( what the heck I have my own right now as I write this) who doesn’t. It’s what you choose to do. Read this and see the paths they and others within the story choose individually, as well as collectively.
I need to stop because this is a review and not a thesis and I could continue to just rave about this beautiful story. Remember once the Landslide brings you down you only have two choices rebuild or leave the mess. It’s cliche but remember, after the storm comes the rainbows!

Once again Kathryn Nolan took my breath away... incredibly romantic, soul searching, all the freaking feels!!! I fell in love all with the characters, the beautiful scenery places and the magnificent prose. Review to come.

Can I say I’ve been waiting for Gabe and Josie’s story since Bohemian. I adored it, heart burst so many times I lost count, I’ve been wholeheartedly felt in love with the story, the people and how Kathryn Nolan could write about strong connections and people who tried to look for it and found it when they weren’t expecting it.
I knew for sure that I was already in too deep into this story. From the first chapter. I was hooked on this feeling, the one that took my breath away, made me feel so much, an inspirational journey filled with so powerful and intense feelings.
Gabriel… damn the Viking Man Bun. Definitely book boyfriend material but it wasn’t about the books, just about all his being, irradiating generosity, kindness, a man attached to his hometown sharing the values his family taught him.
A hopeless romantic, who was longing to find one day someone to fulfill this void, a partner at every levels, challenging, making him feel the way his parents still do after all this years. He might have a certain conception of love in his mind that would definitely put in perspective the moment he met Josie.
Josie was trying to heal her broken heart, for being oblivious and decided to guard her heart by one night stands, no string attached. It worked until she met the sexy lumberjack who might have found his ways into her heart. In the short time she spent in the same place, Gabriel made her put things into perspective, challenging her and stepping outside her comfort zone. Something frightening and exciting at the same time.
It went beyond the physical attraction, the main characters explored their desires filled so much sensuality and passion, the air was emotionally charged with so much intensity, when they gave to each other without reserve when both their hearts told them otherwise.
This strong hint of steamy moments made blush more than once, the intimacy they shared, giving to the other trust, and giving fully of themselves. A side that no one has seen.
The author is such an incredible storyteller. I was hooked from the first pages. An inspiring journey full of magic, harmony and humanity. So romantic and poetic. I adored how the author brought this two broken souls together, and it took one landslide to disrupt everything. My heart was filled with so much emotion and I know for sure it will read it more than once and still feeling the same.
I have been sitting here just in a daze trying to gather my thoughts to make a coherent statement about this book. I just absolutely adored it! Typically I read as an escape. I can't do much myself physically so reading takes me out of my life and into someone else's for a while. A little vacation from me. This author writes SO well that I didn't escape in this book, I BECAME Josie. I don't want to give out spoilers, I think its best when you go in cold on a book like this, (really I don't even like reading blurbs, I mean you have to in order to see if a book is for you, but I don't like to) but I went through so much of what Josie went through in my own life. She is stronger and far more amazing than I'll ever be, but I could picture making all the choices she made because I knew where she'd been. How? Because I'd been there, and I'd felt that, even before she could put it into words I was relating to how she felt. I've never had such a deep connection with a character. She'd say something and in my head I'd be like OMG SAME! Because of that feeling, this book took me to a whole different level.
And Gabe! SO many parallels to my hubby! Not the man bun lol but alot of the same feelings and insecurities. When you are trying to forge a relationship with competing stubbornness(es) and insecurities, its hard. Every day used to be a struggle, a compromise. This author captured that struggle beautifully and with such honesty. We all want that happy ever after, but this author was real about it and about having to fight every day sometimes to make it work. This was incredibly emotional for me, and I have a feeling it will stay with me for some time. Thank you for this amazing journey through this deeply thoughtful, sweet and sometimes dirty romance. Its definitely a story you won't want to put down but at the same time you don't want it to end!
I liked this one better than Bohemian (which I had a little trouble finishing). Landslide is concurrent to Bohemian. I was a little caught off guard, but then I went with it. In romanclandia, I'm OK with hipsters. I like the way they're usually written. I really liked Gabe in the first book. He interested me more than Calvin. I don't usually like a man-bun. In real life, I always get the impression that it's an accident & the guy hasn't had time out to go get a hair cut. There is no amount of money that would coax my husband to grow one & I wouldn't have given him a second glance. Josie calls Gabe her man bun Viking (he's tall and blonde). Anywho, Gabe IS a great guy. He loves his home town. I would too! Big Sur, right there above the Pacific Ocean. Everyone in town knows Gabe & he knows him. I also like Josie better than Lucia (in Bohemian). Josie is a pistol! She's a freelance makeup artist & is currently working for Lucia. It does seem like Lucia looks up to Josie. This is 1st person alternating POV Gabe/Josie. Big Sur is hit with some extreme storms while the 4 are getting cozy while Josie & Lucia & their crew are on a fashion photo shoot at Calvin's book store "The Mad Ones". I had a little slow middle but the steam picks right up as the storm and sea surges. (wink wink) Gabe & Josie have great chemistry. I just wish Josie wouldn't fight it. But then where's the challenge? I love Kathryn's writing style. I love the local color, the scenic views are beautifully described. Of course I google mapped Big Sur. This is KU, but I bought this for kindle.
two stars! *:・゚✧ i am quite sad to say this book was kind of just ‘meh’ for me all around. i didn’t really connect with the characters, i felt like a lot of things were repetitive and didn’t add much to the story, and the pacing was kind of odd to me. which is so upsetting because i absolutely loved ‘bohemian’ and i really enjoyed gabe and josie’s characters in that book, so idk why i didn’t enjoy reading about them more. i just really didn’t vibe well with this book :(
There aren't enough stars in this entire Universe for this book!
Josie Torres doesn't believe in eternal love and soul mates. After being burnt in the most terrible of ways, she vowed to steer clear of relationships hopping from one meaningless night to another. She never anticipated meeting Gabriel Shaw, never thought she'd feel that deeply for him. She's a city girl too much for a small town like Big Sur.
Gabe Shaw has always loved living his days in Big Sur. The beauty of this place soothes his souls from the longings of a forever love. He believes his soul mate will come along but the wait makes his bones ache. Then he spends a night full of intense passion with Josie which convinces him she's the one for him. Too bad she doesn't in believe it. Too bad she doesn't want to be a part of his life in Big Sur.
Two souls, different paths, different dreams and one love to bring them together.
Josie was quiet possibly my most favourite female lead. I was in love with her from page 1. That woman is so strong so empowered, I feel inspired by her attitude towards life. I know she isn't perfect and has her ups and downs but the way she handles those situations is what makes her a badass. If I could be even 10% like Josie, I'd feel I've done great things in life. Can I just have her as my best friend forever? I really need it!!!
Gabe oh my sweet sweet Vikingo! *all the heart eyes* Eve though I had an inkling about Gabe's interests I was still not prepared for how fucking gorgeous this man truly was. I have never ever read a man so sure of his love for a woman, so in tune with his nature and desires and just I cannot deal with this hunking lumberjack Viking. *ugly crying* I need Gabe to be real. I need this knowledge to lead a peaceful happy life.
I think these lines by Pablo Neruda perfectly describe Gabe's love for Josie :-
“I love you without knowing how, or when, or from where. I love you simply, without problems or pride: I love you in this way because I do not know any other way of loving but this, in which there is no I or you, so intimate that your hand upon my chest is my hand, so intimate that when I fall asleep your eyes close.”
I am always left speechless whenever I read a Kathryn Nolan book. I feel humbled by the magnificence of her stories, by her creativity and by the sheer poetry of her writing. She always makes me forget I have a life outside of the World she creates. I am happy to be lost in whatever story of hers I pick up. I wish I get to read her words for eternity and beyond because I really can't hand;e running out of them.
Kathryn Nolans' writing makes me do things I never do, and I love it. First of all, her writing forces me to savor the book. I'm not a savor-er in general, and definitely not with books. I have a tendency to read fast because I'm in a hurry to find out what happens with the characters, where the plot is going, etc. etc. Kathryn Nolan's books are like a winding road- maybe Highway 1 in Big Sur- that makes you slow down and appreciate everything you are experiencing. I savor her words, absorbing every moment in the spectacular places she writes about, feeling like I'm there with Viking Man-Bun Gabe in the forest of Big Sur, or walking through vibrant East L.A. with Josie. While we're on the subject of man-buns, let me confess that I'm really not into the whole long hair, man-bun, Viking beard trend. It doesn't do it to me- and yet when Kathryn Nolan writes a Viking hero with a man-bun, he's the sexiest hero I've read in ages. Gabe Shaw is hot. He's also sweet and stubborn and sensitive and I would love to be Josie and inspire his adoration. The last thing Kathryn Nolan's writing makes me do is that I cry when her couples find their HEA, and Gabe and Josie had me wiping away tears just like the others. I think it's because the journey is so beautiful and the happy ending so hard-earned in a completely genuine way. Nothing in Kathryn Nolan's writing is overwrought or false. Every moment is a poetic description of real people who you care deeply about, working their way through a relationship that feels like real life- only better.
Some specific notes about Landslide: if you haven't read Bohemian, you can absolutely read Landslide, but you'll want to read Bohemian after and you will be glad you did. If you have read Bohemian, Landslide takes place largely at the same time as Bohemian and yet feels completely fresh and new, showing the events of Bohemian from a distance and a new perspective. This new perspective includes some hilarious characters who live in Big Sur, as well as a raw, honest, and ultimately beautiful depiction of new motherhood courtesy of Gabe's sister and her wife and their utterly adorable infant, Lola. Finally, I don't want to give too much away, but if you're looking for an amazing beta-hero, Kathryn Nolan is the master of surprising multi-faceted heroes who are alphas disguised as betas, and betas who look like everyone's stereotype of an alpha.
Gabe and Josie are the most unique and interesting couple I’ve read this year. Josie is purple hair, tats, leather & big city. Gabe is man-bun, lumberjack plaid, Viking giant, forest hiking, small community.
The story unfolds with all their opposite stuff highlighted at every turn, from how they love (or not) to how they live. Even how their relationship unfolds. First hot and fast, then a slow smolder that builds intensity. <—my favorite part!
And that’s why the ending to their beautiful story is absolute perfection for them. They simply couldn’t be any other way.
*I highly recommend reading Bohemian first, to avoid any Lucia&Cal spoilers. You’ll love it! I promise!
I am in love with this story, the characters, and Big Sur. I want to move there like right now.
Gabe may be a contender for book husband, never mind book boyfriend. A big man with an even bigger heart who only wants to give it to someone. Josie is a jaded woman hurt so badly she thinks love isn't for her, and even though she can't admit it, Gabe is changing her mind. The connection they had and the off the charts hot sex scenes kept me glued to every beautifully written word. 5 wholehearted stars!
THIS BOOK IS PURE BEAUTY FROM START TO FINISH. I loved the hero and the heroine. I loved the cast of supporting characters (and they were characters). I fell in love with Big Sur, I fell in love with East LA and most of all, the love story at the heart of all of it was breathtaking. Hot, sweet and romantic. I finished it thinking I'd like to start from the beginning and read it again. Just delicious.
I don’t think this author can ever write anything that isn’t beautifully exquisite. Landslide was just so stunningly provocative as much as it was heart churning and emotional, I couldn’t put it down for the life of me. I finished it in one day, cover to cover, and Josie and Gabe are still in my heart. I don’t think they’ll ever leave. Their story was more than just a love story. But a story of compassion and being honest and true to YOURSELF among anything else.
I’ve never met such a stubborn couple. Normally you get the stubbornness from one character, not both. And it made the story all the more better to see both characters sticking to their guns and being true to themselves while trying to love each other so fiercely.
Kathryn’s writing will always be something no one can touch. It could be a book about a surfer, or a model, or a makeup artist and she will more than give it her all between the pages of everything she writes. She’s poetic and thought provoking. Landslide shows that for her as an author tremendously, and if you’ve yet to pick up her work, well, you’re more than missing out on reading from an author that is so vastly underrated it hurts.
Another beautifully steamy story by Kathryn Nolan! I have been patiently awaiting Gabe & Josie's story since I met them in Bohemian... And man was it worth it!
The writing was AMAZING. I actually felt like I was watching a movie because the descriptions were so well done! I have never wanted to go to Big Sur or L.A. so badly in my life!
This book had me giggling, worried, angry, enamoured, sweating, and tearing up. Absolutely worth it!
The characters both grew wonderfully in their own ways. I thought they developed very well. The author tackled something you don't really hear about in today's society and she handled it SO. WELL.
This book was amazing! The personalities of both characters came to life on the pages and were so evenly matched to their homes that it made me want to pack up and visit Big Sur and LA! I loved Gabe and Josie and their undeniable connection to each other. Their desire to be together outweighed any differences they had and it was amazing to see it all unfold. Besides the pure romantic love that is found in this book there was also a healthy dose of the heat I have come to expect from Kathryn Nolan. This book had everything you could ask for and more! I absolutely loved it. This will go into my “To Be Read Again” file which houses all of my favorite re-readables!
I loved every second of this book. Unputtable down!!! I devoured this book in one day. Gabe and Josie's passion and connection leapt off the page and slammed right into me.
Started strong. had all the right ingredients. But I just didn't like the heroine. Not one bit. Nor did I like the way the hero was too accepting of her off-putting behaviour. He was friggin awesome!! The complete opposite of her. And it bugged me that she didn't see what was glaring at her from the get go.
Her thoughts and the dilemma they had was flogged to death. In the end, things could have been so much easier if the heroine wasn't such a you-know-what. Regardless of her past pain, I did not find it justified the way she treated the situation.
Lastly, the whole Big Sur community connection? Meh...
This book was so sexy and captivating. I don’t mean sexy as in just the sexy times (which are hot!), but the writing itself. There’s an attraction, an allure, in the writing. You are pulled into the story and almost feel surrounded by it. It’s one of those books you want to hurry up because you want to know what happens, and you want it to slow down because you want to savor every part of it. It’s a book that needs to not just be read, but felt. When you are finished with this book you not only feel like the characters are a part of you, but you feel like Big Sur is a part of you. I’ve definitely put Big Sur on my list of places to see because of this book.
This book is a standalone. However, you did meet most of the characters in Bohemian. If you haven’t read Bohemian, after this book you will want to immediately go and download it. It’s a story of how our past shapes our present. It’s also a story of how to not let that same past shape your future. It’s about connection and compromise. It’s about learning and finding yourself and what you truly want. Then being and accepting that true self. I could give you characteristics about Gabe and Josie and tell you parts of their story, but I don’t think I could do them any justice. Kathryn Nolan has crafted a beautiful story that needs to be experienced through her words. You absolutely need to read this book and this author. In simple terms, this book and this author are amazing! Everyone, especially in this genre, needs to read a Kathryn Nolan book!
The story of Josie and Gabe who met in Kathryn's book, Bohemian. Josie is a makeup artist from LA, a complete city girl. Gabe runs The Bar in Big Sur, which has been under his family's ownership for a few generations. Josie has a lot of trust issues stemming from a horrible previous relationship. She is a one-night stand sort of girl. Gabe has issues of his own, which stem from his desire to be married and have a family like his parents. These two are completely opposite but they have this amazing chemistry. Unfortunately they are so both set in their issues that neither wants to give to actually make a relationship out of what was initially a one-night stand. Kathryn Nolan has created such visually interesting characters in Landslide. Each of the main characters would certainly standout on their own, but together they would certainly draw your attention. I love this about Kathryn's writing. The entire book is so detailed in description that it's so easy to become a part of this story. The added bonus is that the characters that you love from Bohemian make appearances as part of this store runs parallel to Bohemian.
Kathryn is a great writer. If you haven't read Bohemian I would start with that book but you wouldn't have to. The story in Landslide is a stand alone that overlaps Bohemian. I highly recommend this book along with Kathryn's other books currently in print.
