Servant of the Undead

Rate this book
Having sex with an ice-covered, smudgy-eyed woman in tattered fishnets and a barely-there mini-skirt is Hayden Thomas’ first mistake. His thinking he’s in control of what happens next.

The city of Boston is held hostage by a snow storm and rumors are spreading about zombies roaming the streets, looking for human flesh. Hayden Thomas, tabloid newspaper writer, is out to get something fresh about zombies for his editor. At the Boston Public Library, Hayden uncovers some old research that suggests that some zombie tribes survive by having constant sex instead of eating human flesh.

Mattie, a zombie out looking for information on a rival tribe, finds Hayden and uses him for sex. After using him, she discovers his research. She wants to find out how to reverse herself and become one of the living again, so she decides to keep Hayden as her sexual servant so she can use him for information as well as sex.

I don’t think this book is going to be a book for everyone but if you like a little monster mixed in with your erotica it may just be the book for you.

Hayden is a young guy doing a little zombie sex-cult research for a junk rag in the library when he is approached by a gorgeous woman wearing little more than a mini-skirt and a few scraps of rags. She’s dripping (it’s storming out, you pervs), she is icy cold and she smells weird. He knows deep down that something is not quite right here but he has sex with her anyway (hey, she offered!) and now he’s in way over his head. Turns out she’s the sort of zombie that he has just been researching. What are the odds, do you think?! She lets him know that he is her newest sex pet and he must perform whenever she feels the need to “feed” which is quite often, it turns out. She feeds off of sex, by the way, instead of brains and he has no way to fend her off because she easily compels him with her eyes and her beautiful body.

“You don’t understand yet, do you? Let me explain. You belong to me now. Until I’m done with you, that is.”

She chains him, she drugs him and, if you ask me, it serves him right! He has a girlfriend who he has cheated on and now because of his dick and his weakness, she’s caught up in all of this weirdness. He is one of the world’s worst boyfriends and feels bad for brief moments but not bad enough to figure a way out of the situation. And nearly not bad enough for me to feel bad for him as I reveled in his debasement!

This book is something else. I cannot honestly say that I liked any of the characters with the exception of Rachelle, the cuckolded but good-natured girlfriend, because they’re all pretty despicable creatures who do terrible things and think terrible thoughts but I couldn’t put it down. It’s a sexy, strange read with loads of dubious consent and a few humiliating episodes but nothing overly gross or truly disturbing (says me who has read some AWFUL stuff in the past, pee & poo stuff if you must know, so your mileage may vary). Be warned though, if dubious consent or the inability to consent scares you off because that stuff is here in several scenes. None of it gets too dark or disgusting and it’s not filled with angst and emotional despair. It was all rather amusing in a dark, dubiously sexy sort of way.

I’d give it a 3 1/2 because the story did get a wee bit convoluted towards the last half but it still managed to keep me entertained.

Thanks to Netgalley & the publisher for providing me with an ARC.

I don't usually read romance.

Especially not zombie romance.

Thank you Netgalley & Ms. Drake for this ARC for a honest review.

This novel has erotic monsters galore. I have seen twilight, scary zombies and slow zombies. I've seen every zombie possible but the erotic kind. Let me tell you, this DID NOT disappoint. A LITTLE weird at first but hey, Not for everyone! I on the other hand enjoyed it for being different and descriptive was.. well ghastly good.

Our story begins with a tabloid reporter, Hayden Thomas, who is looking for something fresh and ironically stumbles across something in all catagories is rotton. Its a book about zombies whom look like you and I but engage in kinky sexual rites, Of course our Hayden Thomas promises to wow his editor, but it also catches the attention of somebody else - a sexy, arrogant, young woman in the skimpiest of outfits who just so happens to be completely unaffected by the cold and the snow as she makes her way in through a library window. Oh boy! Just what every guy needs is a sexy undead lady coming through a window - Que gasps.

Overall, Drake makes this an easy quick read and mouth watering moments of sex, mystery, horror-isk and interesting turns as you read the Servant of the Undead. I would love for more sequels on the tribe or even other tribes. I would happily own every sequel if there was any.

Servant of the Undead was no where what i even could imagine but was so much more and better for what it gave me.

A new take on zombies. I would not classify this as horror, but more erotica. It starts from the first chapter and is an one going sexual adventure with zombies!

I read a lot of romance and paranormal books but I found it hard to read about sexy zombies.

I voluntarily read this arc and these opinions are my own.

Omg! I just finished reading this novella (provided to me by the author for an honest review) and just let me say WOW! Dark & twisted! I loved it! Mattie is an oddly compelling heroine and I hope to get more of her story.

Not quite what I expected. I felt a little disconnected from the story at first but got into it a bit later on in the book. Stunted writing style, slows a bit in places then speeds up like mad before stopping again.

A new take on the zombie genre. A tribe, a tabloid reporter, and some surprising characters.

This is an odd book and if you like the undead/zombie style books you will enjoy this. The story was ok and of course like most of these books they end with cliffhangers to get you to buy the next one. The book does have a lot of sex with the female zombie in control. Overall a light, quick and erotic read if you are into those books.

I can honestly say this book wasnt what I expected. Usually erotica is light on story, but this wasnt one of them. Tho convoluted and confusing at times I really enjoyed it. Hayden, a tabloid reporter in search of the next story. Mattie a zombie who feeds on sex, with a secret plan. Hayden gets caught up in Matties plans. Will he escape it. or finally realize that he doesnt want to? The ending left it open for maybe more stories in the future. I hope the author does continue it, many questions were left unanswered.

I was going into this book with a open mind as I read other reviews regarding this book. If you are wanting a steamy and sexy book about Zombies...This is your book. I always love a good sexy, steamy book to read but I swear every other page about having sex and if Hayden could handle having this much sex. And personally I just couldn't get past the amount of sex scenes I was reading. In the End, I liked book and I can see myself reading another one from Isabelle Drake.

This was a weird one.
Still not sure how I really feel about this one. The story line was definitely interesting- sex zombies, who doesn't want to know more about that, but the characters were not that real to me .

Hot, sexy, fun...a new twist on the zombie genre that is captivating. The story flows well and plays may even make you laugh and squirm at the same time.
