I have had my nose buried in a history book - fact or fiction - for as long as I can remember, but even more important to me are the places and the objects that conjure up the past. My first attempt at historical fiction at the age of eight was three pages of improbable medieval drama set in the local castle.
With a degree in geography and archaeology I love to try and 'read' the landscape and the buildings in it for clues about the past. Virtually any place can trigger ideas for plots, but I am particularly inspired by Venice, Burgundy, Mediterranean islands and the Hertfordshire and Norfolk countryside.
I live in England in a village in Bedfordshire with my long-suffering husband. He is not sure whether to be flattered or alarmed to be told he is the inspiration for all my romantic heroes! Whenever possible we escape to our cottage on the North Norfolk coast where Percy, the bossy pheasant, allows us to share the garden.
My resolution every time I start on a new plot is to plan it carefully, make copious notes first and write lots of drafts in a disciplined and orderly manner. What inevitably happens is that the story starts to write itself in my head until it gets completely out of control - meanwhile my study floor becomes a sea of open books, prints and maps and I am found sitting in the car at traffic lights, muttering dialogue. At that point I have to start writing, knowing full well that the hero and heroine are going to take over and sabotage all my attempts at discipline. It is, after all, their story.

I have read this book twice..now. I truly love this series, and with lots of interruptions I rushed through it the first time. Cassie, and Luc is back into the Regency .era. This time Luc kisses her, and let's HER know how he feels. The problem is she could go back to her home in the future, at any time. This murder involves two men , who are friends in a social way to the family. They are called mollies, or as we use gay today. The sentence then could be Death, or if rich, and high born removed from the country. The group including Garric, and Francis, Luc, and Cassie take on the investigation privately. Lots of people get involved as it leans toward spying. There is more attacks, attempted murder, and house breaking. Cassie gets to meet Luc' s adorable little sons, and his mother. I love everything about the regency era, and her attempts to fit in. Many parts are endearing, others are quite numerous. The ending ties up the murders and all the reasons for her being a time traveler. Then she is home, to find that another adventure is in the making. The problem is when. It is a brilliant mystery time travel, with a murder. I hope that in the end she can one day stay in the past, or at least have some control of when she can come, and go....I just get used to all of them together, and the mystery is solved, and she must go back. Love the characters, and the storyline though....5 stars.

-In the second book of this series, Cassie is again propelled through time to once again assist Lucian Franklin, also known as Lord Radcliffe, as he tries to solve a crime. It dawned on both Luc and Cassie that her visits through time coincide with a murder investigation that involves Lucian, as if her presence, rather than disrupting the past, is a necessary part of it.
-James Franklin, Luc’s brother, is a homosexual, which is very dangerous in that time, as those participating in those acts are committing an illegal offense with severe punishments. In order to avoid the law, men who look to be with other men have particular clubs that they go to and, over time, it’s easier for those frequenting those clubs to recognize others of the same persuasion.
-Cassie doesn’t understand how she’s sent through time, but she does know that it’s connected to a cameo with an image of Luc, who she finds herself deeply attracted to. She now prepares for her next time travel with a bag containing modern day conveniences, like make-up, toiletries and various comfortable changes of clothes and right after this, as she’s holding the cameo, she’s pulled once again to the past.
-When she now appears in 1807, she finds herself in the presence of James Franklin. Concern is etched on his face and he tells Cassie that two of his acquaintance are dead. The first one, George Coates, was found hung in his apartment in an apparent suicide, and the other, Doctor Philip Talbot, was found in his examination office with his head smashed in with a fireplace poker as the murder weapon.
-It’s because both men were lovers that James and Luc feel there could be a connection between the two. There is also the fear that because James knew the two, though only casually, it will become known that he, too, consorts with men and he’ll be prosecuted. Because he’s connected to a titled family, rather than being sentenced to prison or death, some type of banishment would be his punishment, which would still destroy his world.
-There’s basic detective work that’s carried out, which is tedious and doesn’t always bear fruit. There are also many possibilities they pursue which are dead ends. Inspection of the doctor’s patient records are done and analyzed; a storyboard is put up to keep track of each person involved with the two men to see if there’s a common thread; neighbors and work associates must be interviewed. This is a very difficult mystery to solve as the two men died under such different circumstances.
-Cassie continues to be in situations where the current mores of the time force her to conform to a behavior that’s difficult for her to follow and is amusing at times. Her training and experience help to keep the investigation in focus and she finds that the women of that era are not as helpless as one would imagine. She’s also confronted with Luc’s mother pressing to visit with Luc’s two sons which you know will happen and which will make for an added complication. In addition, her wonderment at what position the butler, Garrick, has within Luc’s family is made even more puzzling, as he sometimes acts the perfect butler but at other times, he acts as though he’s Luc’s equal and a close friend.
-This continues to be a light hearted look at a 21st century woman mixing in a 19th century world and is very entertaining.

A Kiss Across Time (Book two) By Louise Allen
Five stars, this was a good time travel story.. A Cassie time traveler goes back to Luc to solve a murder mystery.. Only problem I have with this book is that Luc has children and they were easily brush off on to the grandmother.. The story centers on 1807 on homosexual relationships and murders.. Once solved ends like the 1st book she going back to to her own time.

Awesome!
I waited nearly a year for this book to come out. I hope the next one is faster because I can hardly wait to pick up the story again.. I sure hope there is a HEA for Luc and Cassie....

Enjoyed this second story in the series. A good mystery, I didn't guess whodunit until very near the end. Lots of clever humour. I'm looking forward to the third book and hope the author manages to pull off a happy ever after; I can't bear to think of Cassie and Luc being separated forever by time.

A time traveling murder mystery that did not ring true to time or to characters. The writing was competent but the characters were more interested in the crime than in their relationship growth. The mystery did not surprise.

Second in this series. I do like time travel mysteries and I live this series and all the characters. Cassie Lawrence is once again thrown back in time to get Georgian lover Luc the Earl of Radcliffe and murder and mayhem. Great story

Vivid setting and characters, and a gripping plot. Thoroughly enjoyed the story. Louise Allen combines everything so well. Can't wait for the next one in this time-slip series.

Again this was free and fine. I did enjoy James as a character.
