Norway slowly became a richer society after 1800. "Nasjonens velstand" discusses how and why this happened. The book shows how the role of the state, the view on the market, the distribution of goods, economic freedom, social rights and women's participation in working life changed over time. All Western countries gained economic growth, but in their own way and at every pace. The book discusses Norwegian economic history in an international perspective and highlights what is particularly important for Norwegian development.
