A Taste of Your Own Magic

Rate this book
Sage Cynwrig has finally accepted her destiny and joined ASSET. With the sharp-tongued, machete wielding Grey Maddox as her partner, she’s ready to put her magical immunity to the test.
As the saying goes, be careful what you wish for.

Just when Sage thinks she’s getting the hang of this whole agent thing, smooth-talking Djinn named Luke moves in, right next door to her apartment. As if she needed anymore magical men making her life a living hell. His arrival coincides with a number of strange disappearances in the supernatural community.

It’s all hands on deck at ASSET as rumors from the underground suggest that the missing creatures are part of a magical recipe. Someone’s attempting to recreate the lost Amulet of Emmuri: an artifact of legend capable of bestowing the power of the gods on whomever wears it.

With a little help from her street-wise vampire informant, Zack, Sage is able to pinpoint the malevolent force orchestrating this devious scheme. But just as she closes in, her human roommate Matt is pulled into the fray, and everything gets personal.

Stop the Amulet from being completed, or save her best friend? With the fate of the world hanging in the balance, either choice will force Sage to break the very magical laws she's supposed to uphold.

A Taste of Your Own Magic (Agents of A.S.S.E.T. book 2) by Katie Salidas 5*
This is an exciting, on the edge of your seat second book in the ASSET series. With hints of attraction, deadly plots, sexy vampires, fedora wearing partners, tricksters, Djinn and a mystery to solve; Sage’s first job as an official agent of ASSET is a real doozy. This is a fun, action filled story, with new challenges to face, great mix of characters, twists, surprises and an ending that has you dying to see how things will develop.

So I read this blurb
“ Combining elements of Agents of SHIELD with The Magicians and Supernatural, the Agents of A.S.S.E.T. book series is a Fantasy Thriller aimed at readers who enjoy a healthy dose of snarky comedy peppered with pop culture easter eggs.”
And just had to read it and omg it was awesome! I love the storyline and the characters as we continue on with their journey into the unknown and the author has you on the edge of your seat the whole time!

These books are so much fun! I love how this one deepens the mythology of Sage's world and introduces new threats. I'm also a big fan of the supporting characters, and oh my goodness, that ending set up so many possibilities for the future of the series. An exciting action-packed story from Katie Salidas, great for fans of both SHIELD and SUPERNATURAL.

‘No one could remain sane constantly feeling all the emotional pain for eternity. How long would it be before she turned it all off?‘

Las Vegas author Katie Salidas whose works blend genre styles. She is equally at home with paranormal themes as she is with kinky and naughty romance (though the latter is written using her nom de plume Rozlyn Sparks. Katie is the host of the Indie Youtube Talkshow, Spilling Ink, nerd, Doctor Who fangirl, Las Vegas Native, and SuperMom. She is a USA Today bestselling author.

Katie continues her new series with heroine Sage Cynwrig who is so well sculpted that she likely will be around for a full series of books celebrating pop culture, fantasy, and intrigue all mixed well with Katie’s blend of humor. She places an emblem at book’s opening that describes the A.S.S.E.T of the series – ‘The world is full of magical creatures and artifacts. The Anonymous Supernatural Security and Elimination Taskforce is on the front line, maintaining the balance of power, ensuring humans remain safely oblivious to the dangerous magic around them.

The flavor of her writing is again is enthralling as in the opening lines – ‘Game night was supposed to be fun. Unfortunately, no one sitting around the small table in her kitchen had gotten that memo. Rage simmered below the congenial smiles, passing like an infectious disease with the rotation of the dice. Barely nine o’clock, and all the temper tantrums and interruptions had worn Sage’s nerves as thin as the cards she held in her hand. Dice clattered against wood. Mournful howls followed. Another defeat. Outside her tiny kitchen window, silence beckoned; still and calm. Not even a breeze dared disturb the sleeping trees. A picture perfect summer evening, just beyond her reach; peace that sharply contrasted with the raised voices and empty threats flying around the room where Sage sat waiting for her turn to enter the fray. “You’re stunned for two rounds, Matt,” Josh called from behind his Game Master’s divider. “Or wait. Hold on a moment. Do you remember the number on the red die?” It shouldn’t take a degree in calculus to figure out if a player failed an attempted attack, but this wasn’t their normal dungeon crawl. Julie had already scooped up the dice to take her turn, a blessing in disguise that prevented any further argument over what number the die had landed on. “Forget it. I’m stunned. Let’s just keep going.” Matt’s tone carried a raw edge that failed to mask the annoyance he’d been desperate to hide. He was more than partially to blame for subjecting them all to this hellish fantasy land. His boyfriend Josh had command of their fate as Game Master. Matt could have taken one for the team and said no when Josh demanded they all play his new game. But love makes people do stupid things.’

The synopsis guides us through the plot line - ‘Just when gamer girl and newly minted ASSET agent Sage Cynwrig thought she was getting the hang of this whole magic thing, a smooth-talking Djinn moves in next door. And he's got more on his mind than making her wishes come true. He'll have to take a number. Between her sharp-tongued partner, the machete wielding mercenary, Grey and Zack the flirtatious vampire for hire, Sage has enough magical men making her life hell. And then there's the new job. It's all hands on deck at ASSET. Magical creatures are disappearing from the Las Vegas Strip. Rumor has it, the missing creatures are ingredients in a dark magic recipe. Someone's attempting to recreate the lost Amulet of Emmuri, and gain power to rival the gods. Because of course Sage's first official assignment as an agent would require her to, you know, save the world! To accomplish that, however, she'll have to cross enemy lines and break the very magical laws she just swore to uphold.’

So Katie succeeds in keeping her series fascinating enough that it will most assuredly find a devoted audience.

I loved book one of the ASSET series and couldn't wait for this book. Sage is torn about being an agent for ASSET but really knows she is going to accept. Her partner is of course, the one and only, Grey. I really do adore that fedora wearing overbearing agent. He is just what Sage needs but the two of them fight worse than an old married couple.

Matt is still my favorite character, and I like his boyfriend Josh a lot. Luke has me confused but I want to see more of him because I think he is a good guy. The new characters added to the mix was great. There were some intense emotions in the book. Huge laughter, stubbornness, hurt, betrayal, and more. The story was one I didn't put down at all once I started, I had to finish it. I love that I'm left looking forward to what happens to the characters next, but at the same time, I want to know NOW.

It is a 5/5. Read the first book and then devour this one!

Thank you to the author for the review copy of this book. I received this book in exchange for an honest review and the opinions stated above are 100% mine.

After her crash course with ASSET Sage makes the decision to join, after all it was what she was born to do...
If she thought maybe due a to secret she shared with Ava she would be treated a bit better or friendlier she was totally wrong, now she is stuck with the fedora wearing Grey as her permanent partner. They are given what is meant to be a pretty easy missing persons case to solve, but well this is Sage so it most definitely isn't go to be straight forward or easy. It was great to get to know more about the other supernaturals along with Sage and I wouldn't mind a Brownie of my own to keep my place clean. There are times where you don't know who the good guy is (including those you have met in book 1) or what their ulterior motive is, there are plenty of twist that kept me hooked and some events that left me gobsmacked. Make sure you have book 3 ready to go for when you finish this one as you are going to want to start reading it as soon as you finish this!!

Our heroine has decided to join ASSET, but that doesn't make her life any easier. After all, it is tough having to save the world.

This the second book in the series and it picks up shortly after the first. Readers can jump in here with only mild discomfort. There are references to what has come before and you won't immediately grasp the character interactions, but there is nothing critical missing and you will pick it up pretty quickly.

This is a prime example of urban fantasy and it runs the full gamut of fantastic creatures as opposed to the usual witches, werewolves and vampires. Our heroine has decided to embrace the destiny that she fought against in the first book and things are just heating up. There is lots of action and intrigue with plenty of surprises that will both keep you guessing and turning the page. I found it to be an easy read and very enjoyable, so much so I rolled straight into book three.

Highly recommended for fans of strong heroines and urban fantasy.

Sage has finally joined the agents at Agents of A.S.S.E.T. where she will be working with Grey. Sage and Grey don’t get along very well as they are always arguing about one thing or another bickering back and forth most of the time. Sage is still not thrilled about being an agent but knows this is her destiny the same as it was her mother. Sage wants to save the world from evil, people who use magic for the bad instead of for the good. Her first assignment is a missing person case; magical folks are disappearing with no trace of when or how.

Sage has a new neighbor a Djinn named Luke who has just moved into her apartment building right next door. It is kind of a coincidence that Luke moves in just as magical people are disappearing. Luke seems to be a nice guy who wants nothing more than to help Sage and to be her friend. But most Djinn’s are not to be trusted besides Sage has not worked out who she can trust and who she can’t in the magical world at this moment. Is Luke the nice guy he seems to be or is there more to his story that he is revealing? Does he have anything to do with the missing people?

Things start to take a turn for the worse when Sage’s best friend and roommate Matt goes missing. Where is Matt? Did someone take him? Is he missing? Why would someone want to take Matt? Matt is such a nice guy who would never hurt a flea. Sage will not let anyone or anything stop her from finding Matt no matter what the cost may be.

A Taste of Your Own Magic is a very enthralling read that had me hooked from the first word. Once I picked it up I couldn’t put it down I had to keep reading to know how it was all going to end. With all the magical creatures and Matt disappearing the race was on then and the excitement and tension just kept pouring out of the pages keeping me flipping and flipping.

The world building for Agents of A.S.S.E.T. is phenomenal and magical. It will sweep you into its world and having racing after the characters to see what they are up to. It will have you feeling and seeing what the characters are and have you thinking that you are a part of their world.

I highly recommend A Taste of Your Own Magic to anyone who likes reading about magic and the people who use it or not. Pick up your copy and disappear into its world like some of the characters.

Sage is now an employee of ASSET. Her first assignment teams her up with Grey again. The same Grey who hired a vampire to scare her, and always treats her as stupid, incompetent, and lazy. Their case is to find out why magical beings are disappearing. While on the case Sage has to deal with Zack the vampire coming around. What does he want? Can she trust him? And what about her new neighbor who seems to be watching her all the time? He’s a djinn. And when she finds out what they are she is fearful, but he seems harmless. Or is he? This case will be hard for Sage. She has to gain Grey’s trust, and trust him, and someone she loves will be hurt. The dynamics between Sage and Grey were great to read. Is a romance in their future? I absolutely loved this second book! It was so much fun! I enjoyed getting to see Sagebrush develop even more in this book. She is such an amazing strong character and yet she has so much more to learn in this life she’s gotten. Her world changed in the last book and she’s still figuring out how to deal with it. I also love her banter and her nerdy references. Her partner is starting to trust her more with I loved though the fedora is still there. And a certain vampire is definitely giving mixed signals. All this would be hard enough but she also has her first official case to deal with and. New neighbor and nothing is adding up. She can’t figure out how the cases connect and time is running out. The action and Sage’s humor were great in this story. I look forward to seeing what will happen next for all these characters.

Exciting

Once again the author takes us on an amazing journey of learning for her characters. We will have ups and downs and maybe a little swearing at the author for being mean to the characters.

I love how Grey and Zack play against each other so well. You can just feel the tension between the two of them when it comes to Sage. Then add in Matt and Josh and things are perfect. It has to be hard for Sage to separate work and home and it gets even harder.

I love how the author keeps adding more characters to the story that we come to love. I happen to love the new character Luke, but alas true love never lasts..lol

Until Next Time..... Tabi

PS... I gotta love me some Zack

Once again, I’m so blown away by the story I’m left completely speechless now that it’s over. Picking up almost exactly where the previous book left off, this one continues the twisty maze of intrigue and paranormal adventures. We get the opportunity to learn a great deal more about the beings around Sage that are other than human as she takes on her first assignment as an agent of ASSET and begins to realize how much she doesn’t know about this new world. The ending contains a delightful little twist that left me howling “you can’t leave me there!” It’s not exactly a cliff-hanger but there’s lots of new possibilities, I’m dying to see where they lead.

*I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book*

Once again, I was pulled immediately into this story. It picked up pretty much where book let off. I love the characters and their witty banter. Especially Sage and Grey. They are always bickering and I really enjoy some of the fun comments they make. Devon is also one of my favorites. I am not sure about Zack. One moment he seems ok and the next he seems sleazy. I really felt mad for Matt & Luke, though. They got the short end of the stick this time. I am curious as to the aftermath of the things that happened in this book.

Overall, I loved the story and can't wait to continue on.

If the first book of this serie was great this one was even better.
The bickering between our tree favorite characters is just hilarious. The new adventure is awesome, and even one suspected who the culprit would be from the beginning, I could never found out who it actually was, even though all the evidences were there if one did lined all the dots. This mystery was on the the best I've read in that regard.
If all this was not enough, the final chapters are totally unexpected and one can't wait to discover what will happen in the next book in the serie (for all levels in sage's live).
Important Note: Do read the first book before reading this one, you can thank me later. ;)

Sage had too much in her plate. Her partner’s attitude, Zack the vampire and now the Djinn was making harder to deal with her secret. Interesting how Grey and Zack characters took her out of balance. Entertaining the bickering between Grey and Sage and caught my eye how Zack teased Sage. Intriguing story with interesting characters, suspense, some amusing scenes, strong emotions, secrets, mystery, violence and evil lurking in the dark. Could not miss the next book. Voluntarily reviewed this interesting and intriguing story that I enjoyed

I have been provided with a copy of A Taste of Your Own Magic by the author through StoryOrigin for an impartial review. This is the second book in the Agents of A.S.S.E.T. series and ahhhh this book was just so good. I just had so much fun getting to reenter this world with Sage Cynwig and see what she is currently getting herself into. I enjoyed getting to catch up with older characters and I really enjoyed getting to meet some new characters. I just fell in love with each and every one of them and I just had so much fun with them. I can’t wait to see what happens next with this series.

First let me state that I received an Advance Reader Copy, (ARC), but this in no way influences my review. I always leave an honest review.

Wow!!! This story is better than the first. And I find that hard to believe. Sage is still a "newbie”, & still partnering with Grey, but she's still getting into trouble. She and Grey are still snarky towards each other, and still building trust. Last time they fought vampires and Sage almost died. This time they're trying to find missing magical people, and why they're missing. I recommend this read. 5 Thumbs up.

**** SPOILER ALERT ****
"A Taste Of Your Own Magic: Agents Of A.S.S.E.T. #2" is an action packed roller coaster of a page turner.
Salidas deftly balances action, exposition, and twists as Sage and Grey investigate the disappearance of magical folk. The author, as is to be expected, does a fantastic job of world building and character development.
This entertaining blend of fantasy, Science Fiction, and the supernatural is one that I highly recommend. I can hardly wait to tuck into the next installment of this series.
In the interest of transparency: I was given a review copy of this book and I am voluntarily sharing this review.
It is my own honest opinion.

She had been a gamer and she thought she had got bang of the magic lark but not another magical being moved in next door. She has enough magical beings to deal with without another one moving next door to her. Magical creatures are disappearing and it may be due to the use of black magic. What is going on? Can she help stop it? See if she can

A Taste of Your Own Magic (Agents of A.S.S.E.T. #2), my second read from author Katie Salidas. A well-written work, the second in the Agents of A.S.S.E.T. series. A little heavier on the romance, less so on the action, still I look forward to Magic In Disguise (Agents of A.S.S.E.T. #3), the next book in this series.
