J.A. Cipriano

When New York Times Bestselling author, J. A. Cipriano was in second grade, his teacher gave everyone in class a journal to write down whatever they wanted. Their first subject was to write about something they didn’t like. J. A. chose to write about why he didn’t like writing. His reasoning was simple. He had bad handwriting. Even then, he was destined to be an engineer due to his messy scrawl.

Unfortunately, he found through the course of this little adventure that he actually liked writing. That year was sort of the high point for his writing career because he won a writing contest for the state. He got to go to a big dinner and his teacher was all dressed up.

He kept writing little stories, year after year, and in sixth grade, won another contest. In seventh grade, he broke his arm and got the cast signed by both Dean Koontz and Stan Lee. It is, by far, the coolest cast he’s owned. That was about the time he found video games and anime. His writing turned mostly toward fanfiction until about ninth grade when he wrote his first novel, a small book about twenty thousand words called Revelations. In sophomore year, he wrote two more books to complete the trilogy because he saw Star Wars that year and learned trilogies were the cool thing to do.

He rewrote Revelations during his senior year, and his wife swears it is the best thing he’s written. J.A. is not so sure. Every time he reads it, he cringes, but then again, he hates everything he writes, so there is that.

It was about that time, he got heavily involved in a fanfiction writing group, but that isn’t one hundred percent accurate. It was a world based on a popular anime but everything was created especially for this world. It made it so that every story someone wrote was unique.

Imagine writing a Star Wars novel set 1,000 years after A New Hope, where everything that happened was a distant memory and you get the idea. You have the force, some distant memories of the past, and that’s pretty much it.

He wrote about a million words (863K to be exact) for them before he decided to do his own thing. He wrote another novel. He put it in a drawer. He wrote another one that eventually became the basis for The Hatter is Mad. His next novel was Kill It With Magic, his first real novel. It’s not bad, but it’s bumpy. This is unfortunate because the books get loads better as the series progresses.

Since then, he’s written six more novels, four of which are in the Lillim Callina Series, and one in the Abby Banks series. The other is stuck in a drawer for time undetermined. He’s writing his next book now which is about werewolves fighting mummies in Ancient Egypt. After that, he will move onto Abby Banks 2. The Spy Within will come out in June or July.

J.A. also has three chinchillas. Two of them are grey, and because of this, they are named Slate and Cadmium. The third is named Jet because he’s black, and Jet is old English for black. See, creative. He also has a cat named Turtle. This does pose problems for his two-year-old from time to time.

I do have to admit the superhero/reverse harem genres are not my favorite, but as I really, really like this author’s writing, I’m always willing to read what he writes. And, as always, he did not disappoint. Like the first book in this series, this second one is full of fun and adventure. Yes, there is romance, but it isn’t front and center like many other RH books, just enough to keep you aware of what is going on. One thing I really appreciated is how light this book is. Not light in content, but light as in not a dark, creepy tome. It’s fun, and sometimes you just need a little fun when life is getting you down. So, give this wonderfully-written book a try! Highly recommend! I was provided the e-book which I voluntarily reviewed.

In the first Super Human book, Mickey was fighting to prove that he belonged in the ranks of superheros in his city. In the sequel, Mickey's facing a greater challenge, banding together the colorful superheros (and their clashing personalities) to save the city from a bigger threat.

This was another fun read from this author, a light and easy superhero story. Mickey's still a really good guy at heart, flawed but worth rooting for. I really love Cipriano's action scenes, he keeps things moving. I thought the whole thing was a fun read. If harem books aren't your thing, this one isn't descriptive, with the very few scenes fade to black. I requested a copy of the book, and I'm voluntarily leaving a review.

A nice sequel to the first book
Wile it lacks some of the charm of book 1, it sticks to the core principles. (most of them)
The audio book version switches narrators from Luke Daniels (who did a fantastic job) to Gary Furlong who is very talented but has a different take on the characters.
Mickey (the Blue Badger) seems a little jerkier in the sequel, a little less grounded or tolerant of others. He also engages in some public endangerment that his earlier self would have kick his ass for but it was to advance the plot so,... yeah okay.

A great book 2 that I loved. Took what was good from book 1 and rolled with it. Well written, with some great scenes that made me laugh, it was great seeing Badger be more adult then the rest of the Super humans he joined with in the first book. Loved that all the great heroes and villains were in here too. A super hero story must have a good villain. Just a blast to read as I was hooked from the beginning just like the first book.

As of late I have read so many J.A. Cipriano books late. Different than his other works this book, like all his writing, ended as an excellent page-turner. I look forward to his next work in this series!

United We Stand is an entertaining book that fans of the genre should enjoy. The book continues the super hero adventure started in Super Human, but the book works independently as well. The story does include a harem, but it is relatively tame. I'd say teens and adults.

About the same as the first book, but a bit less interesting as it's mostly been done before.

A fun book that parodies popular superheroes and the genre. Same problem as the first book though: almost every female character gets giggly around the protagonist and wants to get him into bed with them.
