Suzie and Mary are enjoying running the newly reopened Dune House, a stunning bed and breakfast on the beach. Their friendship has never been stronger. Mary is in her element using the skills she gained taking care of her family to ensure their guests have an unforgettable experience and Suzie’s relationship with Paul is flourishing.
But when Paul threatens a guest and then the guest is found dead, Paul becomes the prime murder suspect. But there is one problem. He has disappeared without a trace. Suzie believes that Paul is innocent and is worried that he is in grave danger so she starts her own investigation which leads her on a quest to find him and uncover the truth.
It is a race against the clock to find Paul before it is too late! But is Paul really who Suzie thinks he is or has he deceived Suzie and been using her all along?
Would have been higher if only the Main character wasn’t having the TSTL moments. She’s a former investigative journalist for goodness sake, author pleaseeeeeee give her the smarts she deserves
Paul introduces Trent Baker, his new deckhand to Suzie and asks her to rent him a room for the night.
After Paul and Trent set out on their fishing trip, Suzie learns from her cousin Jason Garber’s detective that they’d been an accident and that Trent’s body was found in Parish, the nearby town, and it looked like it was washed offshore. Worse, Paul is missing.
He appeared to have beaten up badly and may have been stabbed. Earlier on over breakfast, there was a confrontation between Suzie and Trent when Suzie accidentally spilled cream all over Trent’s pants 👖
Boy! This got a bit worrying for a bit, suspense and some action in this close call mystery. Plus the romance moves on between Paul and Susie. The sleuths take on rescuing and proving someone is innocent as a body is washed up on a nearby beach. I loved Paul sticking up for Susie, Trent was out of order, Jason I know was only doing his job but I think if he had been there at the start he would have done the same, these two women have worked their way into several hearts in the few months they have been at Dune House. I love that each mystery has been very different and interesting, these stories are only short, more novella size than anything, but for readers who like different and a little quirky as well as fairly light, then this series is ideal. Well written with some fun and banter so not all heavy, this does have it's serious side but I found it a wonderful read.
Suzie and Mary are settling in to running the B&B, but Suzie is also getting quite familiar with Paul, the fisherman she has been cautiously dating. He has been taking her out on his boat and showing her the local beaches, including some that seem hidden and only show up when the boat enters them. Suzie is getting more and more serious, but also more and more skittish. One afternoon, Paul shows up at the B&B with a young man named Trent. Trent is very young, but Paul has hired him as a deck hand on a two-day job and he needs somewhere to sleep for one night, so Suzie offers him a room. The next day, the men have already left on their trip when Suzie gets up. A little later, Trent's body is recovered at a neighboring beach with no sign of Paul. Can you guess what happens next?
Hidden Hideaways is the fourth book in Cindy Bell's mystery series. Like the previous three books, this is a quick read. I wish that the books were longer. This installment centers around Trent Baker, the young new deckhand that Paul hired. Unfortunately, shortly after they take off in Paul's boat, Trent's body is found washed ashore. Now the question is where is Paul. Suzie doesn't think much of the Parish police officers and goes into sleuth mode. I like Suzie and her bff Mary because they are smart 50-somethings instead of the usual younger heroines.
I really got to learn a lot about Paul in this book. which was really nice. His protectiveness over Suzie was sweet but scary at the same time. Though you know you’ll never be in danger, let’s hope that the anger isn’t directed towards you. Though there was a mystery, I felt like this book was really about telling the story of how Suzie was coming to terms with her feelings for Paul. They both grew so much and the story was so focused on them that the mystery fell away.
This is a n amazing story, as well as beautiful! Our hero seems to find herself in another mystery. When her companion decides to go on a short trip she decides to enjoy her best friend's company in the newly remodeled B & B. Things don't go quite as planned but surprisingly the plans all work out well for everyone!!
Two men went out in a boat. One washed ashore, beaten to death, and the other was missing in action. Police think Suzie’s boyfriend, Paul, might be a suspect in the death. To prove his innocence, Suzie must first find Paul. It’s a search for the hidden hideaways in this one. A mystery you quickly get into!
I think this is my favorite of this series! I love how the characters relationships are evolving. This is a very good story. I highly recommend this book and the whole series.
Suzie and Mary renovated an old Inn and best friends. A lot murders in this town but with Suzie and Mary living there, they are living out their dream and solving mysteries. Could there be a real town just like this?
Extra star for the nice yet somewhat predictable wrap up of the series and the romance. Moderate pace of the plot suited the storyline and simplicity made it an easy audiobook to walk to. I liked the characters and wished the narration had expressed the energy of their activities.
The comings and goings of criminals and crooks was a fast read, as I always wanted to know what happened next! Fortunately, each chapter got more involved and finally all the questions were answered!!
This was a little more suspenseful than previous books in the series but it was still filled with all the charm and coziness that the previous books are known for. Can't wait to see what Susie, Mary, Paul and Jason get up to next!
I enjoyed this story of adventure and romance on the the seas. The author has been very entertaining and mysterious with her characters in constant danger.
I have read all four up to now! What a wonderful story and great characters. It’s really nice to see good people get what they deserve. Onto the next one!!!
You can take the girl away from investigative reporting, but you can't take the investigative reporting out of the girl. I really enjoy this tough, smart character.
My 4th installment in this series and I really did enjoy the quick read of it! So far I am really getting a kick out of the idea of these ladies in this next stage of their lives.
