Take one protective, growly shifter.
Add his fated mate, a sassy woman who awakens his bear.
Stir in a marriage of convenience, a remote cabin in the woods and let simmer...

Everly Mather’s very terrible, no-good day is fixing to get a whole lot worse. To start off, her alpha announces he wants to mate with her, to produce an heir. When she gives him an emphatic nope, her guardians take her for a drive and abandon her on the side of a desolate road.

The long hike home is punishment for her defiance.

Her bad day takes another down turn when a big, hulking bear shifter stops for a friendly game of twenty questions. He seems to think she needs rescuing. He’s all kind of mad and snarling on account of her pride dumping her in the middle of nowhere.

He refuses to mind his own business.

And refuses to go away.

When she insists she’s just fine without his help, thank you very much, Mr. Growly McBossy tosses her into his truck, and hauls her out to his cabin in the woods. If her jaguar pride cast her aside they don’t deserve a fine little thing like her. He announces his plans to keep her.

Period.

Just a little neighborly protective custody…

Everyone thinks bear shifter, Sawyer Strickland is gentlemanly…

Yeah, that all goes right out the window the moment he finds the pretty little blonde on the deserted road. Everly’s lovely hazel eyes and sweet curves awaken his bear along with a whole lot of protective instincts. She doesn’t want his help?

Too bad.

She’s getting it anyway. There’s no way he’ll leave a vulnerable, albeit sassy, woman out in the middle of nowhere.

Especially when said female is his mate.

Instead of returning her to her people, he carries her off to his cabin. His hospitality doesn’t exactly win her over. Even after a few days, circling each other in tight quarters, she’s still a tad miffed over the whole deal.

After a little time, she’ll come around. He’s sure.

But what comes around instead is her pack alpha, spouting all sorts of nonsense about mating with Everly. Not happening. Sawyer’s ready to give the big cat shifter a beat down. He’s furious that Everly was left behind by her pride members. Also, she belongs to him. There’s that too. Just when things are about to get interesting, Everly surprises both men.

She claims she’s already married. To Sawyer.

Sawyer knows he can protect his woman with a marriage of convenience.

Even if his possessive bear demands to claim his sweet, fiery mate.

~~~
Step into the world of Shifting Destinies, where the men and women you meet might just be a little more than human. Their towns are protected by magic, and their hearts are open and ready for love. But watch your step - more than darkness lurks in the shadows.
He didn't just want to help her. He needed to do it. He needed her off her feet, healed up, and away from anyone who tried to hurt her. The instinct to protect her invaded all the cells until there was no other function left. His organs worked to keep his body going in order to see Everly safe.
4.5 stars!
This was another amazing shifter romance story from my favorite author! Sawyer and Everly were both such beaten and broken characters who tried to put up a front to the world but couldn't hide from each other. Sawyer saw a kindred broken spirit in Everly and was determined to protect his mate from all the danger her former clan posed to her body and soul. I loved how protective and possessive Sawyer was towards Everly; he knew she was his mate as soon as he rescued her and was determined to keep her safe with him.
I really felt for Everly's struggle between loyalty to her clan and her unwanted connection to Sawyer; her growth throughout the story made me root for her so much. As always, I loved seeing all of the previous couples happy and in love, but there was some real life shit that happens to our beloved characters in this novel that almost gave me an aneurysm! I'm excited yet sad for Hudson's book next as it's the final novel in the series ♡
Reviewed at Shifter Haven
“Stolen Mate” captured my attention from the first page and never let go until the ending. It’s intense with more than a few puzzles tossed in as well. This is the fifth title in Cecilia Lane’s Shifters of Bear’s Den series, and it moves the overarching story of the enclave and its residents very well with lots of action and involvement from all the characters we already know… and a few new faces.
This cover description tells you just about everything you’d need to know before picking up this story.. in fact, it’s more than I’d put in a review. *grin* I would call Sawyer’s and Everly’s romance a compelling story, and that’s not a word I use often. It seems there are as many sins among the various supernaturals as there are among the humans for Everly comes from a jaguar pride that is headed by an insane, power-hungry jerk of an Alpha who rules his pride through fear and depravity. As a nomadic pride moving from campground to town in an RV caravan, this pride is also on the edge of some very dangerous activities, ones that have and will get other supernatural beings, shifters killed simply for being different. The women of Everly’s pride are useful to the males for baby making, sex, cleaning up and punching bags — and that is all they’re good for in the eyes of the males. When Everly is faced with the demand that she become her alpha’s second mate, alongside her sister, since he is heir-less and she is a rare jaguar with an unusual coat… and because Wade decrees it. Her automatic rejection and smart mouth get her in trouble immediately, and egged on by Wade she is mistreated by the members of her pride. Which is where and how Sawyer found her… and scented his mate for the first time.
There are, of course, steamy moments, lots of fast-paced action, dangers to be faced… but what drew me into the heart of “Stolen Mate” was Everly’s reactions to what normal actually was for Sawyer’s clan. The women had a voice, they weren’t backhanded for a smart comment, they were treasured and respected — all things she had no experience with, and rejected automatically as weak. Watching her eyes be opened to the possibilities of a good life lived without fear was an amazing journey to share with this character. Choosing Sawyer and his clan as her future put them all in the crosshairs of Wade’s anger and vengeance, and makes for a very powerful story that I would not hesitate to recommend to any Paranormal Romance or Shifter Romance reader.
I read this title through my Kindle Unlimited subscription.
This is the 5th book of the series. I did not like this one as much as the others that came before it. Since the beginning Wade was a tyrant to his pack. The male Jaguars got to go out beat their mates and treat the female jaguars like trash. The female jaguars were so beaten down that they did not even fight back. That turned me off immeduately. However, I plowed along and read the rest of the story. Sawyer Strickland a male bear finds Everly Mather a black jaguar on the side of the road and brings her to his pack. She doesn't trust him but when Wade comes to bring her back to her pack she declares Sawyer her mate. They marry and mark eack each other. Well, it goes on Wades pack causes problems and they end happy. I was not happy there were too many loose ends for me.
This is a wonderful shifter story and one I thoroughly enjoyed reading. Everly and Sawyer are two broken people that come together and bring comfort to one another. Sawyer’s bear is convinced Everly is his mate, but Everly cannot reconcile that a bear and a cat can be mates. Sawyer is not much good at words, only actions. Eventually Everly comes to realize just how much Sawyer loves and respects her and finally accepts the truth of his words. This is certainly a book I would have no hesitation in recommending.
Everly’s pride were nomads; nevertheless, she was always told where to go and what to do, with no hope of finding her own path. Where the other women fell into step without complaint, Everly was the one that questioned, instead of obeying. Because of this trait, Aileen chose to train Everly as a midwife and pride doctor and Everly took her duties seriously. The Oracle commands the pride’s lives and Wade, their Alpha, interprets her words. Everly’s older sister, Emery, is Wade’s mate, but she hasn’t given him any heirs. Wade has been told by The Oracle that he has to mate with Everly to get an heir and he pursues her relentlessly; she is a rare cat and the only one in the pride with all black coloring. Wade is one of the few men who truly scares Everly; her inner cat didn’t trust him and dislikes his inner beast. As far as she is concerned, he will never be her mate. The rest of his Clan thought Sawyer was straight-laced and steady without a care in the world. It is a mask he works hard to keep; he is not steady and his bear tears at his control. Sawyer isn’t made for a mate; he wasn’t fit for love. That had all been beaten out of him at a young age; he needs to focus on something other than mates, pain and itching scars. The family that rejected him isn’t one he wants to remember and he cannot let his bear or his past rule him. Sawyer is a thinker and often went into action without considering the consequences; that is what happens when he sees Everly at the side of the road. Right or wrong the instinct to protect Everly takes over and his bear is in full agreement; no one would touch their mate again. Walking back to camp is punishment for Everly’s attitude; it is meant to curb her defiance, but instead saddles her with an abductor and his unwilling accomplice. Sawyer knew that Everly wasn’t made to roll over and take whatever is given to her; she is much stronger than that and he intends to give her the necessary encouragement. Sawyer tells Everly she will fit right in with his Clan and she does, but their way of live is totally different to the way Everly had been brought up; there is respect and love in Sawyer’s Clan, while there is deference and caution in her pride. Everly decides to stay in Bearden for a few days, but when Wade turns up and demands her return to the pride, Everly tells him she has chosen Sawyer as her mate, even though she resists him at every turn and denies the truth. They had gotten off on the wrong foot, but Sawyer would fix that and eventually win her over. Regardless of how she truly feels, Sawyer would prove he could take care of Everly. What follows then are a series of events that continually put Sawyer and his Clan in danger; they are hurting because of her. Everly is torn by the actions of her family and devastated when Wade banishes her from the pride. When Bearden is attacked, it doesn’t take long to establish that Everly’s pride is implicated somehow. For all the hurt Everly has caused to Sawyer’s Clan, her duty now is to find evidence that her pride are responsible for all the attacks, both in Bearden and elsewhere. In her pursuit for justice, Everly has assistance from a most unlikely source, but Wade escapes and comes back for retribution. No matter what, Sawyer will not allow Everly her final vengeance. A copy of this book was provided to me with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book and my comments here are my honest opinion.
There isn't a female alive who wants to be forced into a marriage, shifter or human. All Everly Mather wanted was to be the best midwife for her clan. She had the patience and empathy for the job but, no, their alpha Wade wanted her as his second mate because she was special, unlike her sister Emery, who hadn't produced an heir for Wade yet. Her parents, Maggie and Arthur Mather, even believed this abhorrent mating was for the best of their clan. When brought before Wade Everly found her backbone and mouthed off to this stupid alpha and paid the consequences. She was abandoned on the side of the road after getting supplies in town and this is where Sawyer Strickland comes across her. His bear picks up her scent and goes crazy. You see Sawyer's bear is the smart one and recognizes Everly as their mate. But Sawyer had always bore the brunt of his family's scorn and carried the taint of believing he was weak-kneed and was both physically and mentally beaten by his step-father. He strongly believed he deserved nothing in life; let alone a mate. This is what each must learn from the other. Both must make sacrifices to earn the other's love and devotion. This is a strong tale of acceptance on both their parts. Everly referred to her stay in Sawyer's cabin as "Casa del Captor" but she thought that maybe it wasn't a jail but an escape route away from her clan into a better life. Reading this book will answer the questions each of these two characters have for and of themselves. For my honest and completely volunteer review I was given an ARC of this book.
Stolen Mate is the fifth book in the Shifters of Bear’s Den Series, and while this book could probably stand alone, I think it’s best enjoyed by reading the books in this series in order. Everly is a rare black jaguar and her alpha has decided to take her as a second mate, a future she absolutely is terrified of and refuses. Sawyer is concerned about his bear, not fully healed from his past, but is surprised when he finds his mate with Everly. As fate would have it, they’re forced into a marriage of convenience, but Sawyer wants her to be his for real. Can they manage to have a true mating, even though her past is threatening everything she’s learning to love now?
Stolen Mate is a perfect representation of two mates that are meant to be together! They are able to relate to each other, they can anticipate what each other needs, and I loved that they were able to help each other heal. This book definitely pulled at my heart, learning about what both Sawyer and Everly had overcome, seeing how strong they were, how hesitant they were, and knowing that their ordeal wasn’t over. There were some twists and turns in the plot line that I wasn’t expecting, but made the book so much better! Everly was amazing, and I loved the lengths she went to in order to defend those weaker and save those she loved. Sawyer had such a big heart that was just waiting for the right person to shine through. This whole series has just been explosive, and I definitely loved reading this book!
Awesome
This is the first ever book I have read by Cecilia Lane. I was scrolling through Facebook one day when I came across an ad with a quote from this book. At the time I didn't think anything of it but I found myself thinking about it for the next couple of days. My instincts told me I needed to do back, download, and read this story. I didn't care that it was the 5th book in the series, sometimes when a book stands out this much you just have to read it right away.
This book tells the story of Everly and Sawyer. Everly was basically being treated as a slave by her shifter clan, used and abused on a daily basis. Sawyer is the type of male who knew she needed help and was willing to give it to her at any cost. The author was able to give just enough back story (little golden nuggets) on all the supporting characters that I never felt lost within the story, but at the same time I never felt bogged down with the information. There is so much more to the story than what I have mentioned above, but I feel as if you should read it and find out on your own. Just know that I loved it and was not disappointed!! I'm now going to go back to the beginning, so I can follow everyone else's path to see the who, what, where, when and why they got to where they are now. I can't wait. Happy reading!!
Very good shifters romance
This was a first time read by this author and I loved it. This was a shifters romance. I look forward to reading more.
Overview. Everly was a panther and in a pride of other cats, but she was a rare breed of cat so their alpha wanted her as a second wife. But her pride was a very male dominated and controlling group where women had no rights. While in town buy supplies for her to help with being a midwife, the escorts would tease her and hit her in public. Sawyers and Hudson stopped in town to get food and Sawyer seen how they were treating her. They followed the van with Everly and noticed the escorts dropped her off on the highway and we're making her walk and she had fresh marks on her face. Sawyer picked her up and took her to Bearden (their shifter town). Sawyer was chewed out by their Alpha Callum for kidnapping a girl only to find out she was a panther and his mate. But once Everly seen how people in Bearden lived and how women had rights, she knew she never wanted to go back to her pride. But Wade her old alpha wouldn't stop pursuing her and wanting to hurt all shifters.
Everly is a panther shifter and boy is she having the worst day ever and it goes like this. Her alpha tells her going to mated with him and have his heir but he already mated to her sister. Then she gets dumped in the middle of nowhere as punishment by her chaperones then Mr Growly McBossy shows being her knight in shining armor finds out what happened and .............lol
Sawyer also know as growly McBossy lol is a bear shifter what comes across his mate vulnerable and abandoned by the side of the road and telling him to mind his own business and she doesn’t need his help. Lol yea that not happening
This was great funny lots of drama. I loved the characters and how they interact. All the action, mystery, intrigue, and betrayal are fantastic. The bad guys are epic you are going to love to hate them lol I couldn't put this story down! This was awesome add to the series I can't wait for the next book.
Voluntarily reviewed a copy and I honestly loved it.
Oh my gosh! I enjoyed this story. There were times I wanted to shake… I mean really shake Everly and hope some sense would be shaken into her. Granted it's hard to part from things we are familiar with and enter into an unfamiliar state of mind and an unfamiliar place. There were so many times where I kept thinking Everly open your eyes! Even though I felt that way about Everly I liked her character. Sawyer a quiet, hurt, angry, but gentle character. I like him as well and wanted to dive more into his character. This story was a simple and easy read as well as it was enjoyable. I would recommend this book to someone who enjoys shifter, suspense, a little psychology on the side and an HEA. Enjoy!
This story is if another bear in the special shifter town.. Sawyer has trouble with his bear on his way home from picking up a brother from the airport they see a SUV dump a beautiful blonde woman and drive away. Something told him to stop and help...well he put her in his truck and drove home! He knew she was his mate..a jaguar no less! A very unsure cat! She thought he was crazy...she couldn't be his mate he was a bear and she was a cat. Her awful alpha wanted her but there was no way! She's scared and lies telling her alpha she's marrying the bear...things get really interesting from there! Some characters from other stories are in this interesting story. Great storyline and great characters. Loved it.
I truly enjoyed reading this is a fascinating, intriguing bear shifter romance.
This book is about: a dismayed female panther shifter (Everly) is taken captive by a bear shifter (Sawyer) who is willing to play the game but is determined to claim his mate.
What you will find in this book is:, drama, intrigue, suspense, twists & turns, some humor, adventure, action, attractions, danger, enemies, conflict, confrontations, harassment, threats, emotional feelings, family issues, emotional blackmail, accusations, lust, passion & love
The characters are interesting, well developed and realistic with their emotions. The story-line and plot is well-thought out and written, it keeps the reader’s attention. I would recommend this book.
This series definitely gets the blood pumping. Who would have thought that shifters could have an elitist group? Sawyer and Everly have a hard road to travel when he saves her from being dumped. She doesn't really see it that way, but has little choice when he tosses her into his truck. What follows shows Everly that how she has been raised doesn't always mean it's true. She is outspoken and therefore receives punishment on a regular bases from her pride. However, Sawyer and his clan show her a different side of life that could be her's. Come along and experience this rollercoaster ride of a story. You won't be disappointed. Though this could tentatively be a standalone read, but all the characters here have a backstory book of their own.
Domestic Violence and shifter relationships is unusual. The evil pride Alpha uses power and control to not only harm his wife, tries to get our heroine, but also damages his whole pride. I loved how the book allowed Everly to move through the complexity of having lived in that unhealthy setting and find herself in a new setting. Sawyer, her bear mate has had his own DV damages and is still reeling from the past. Layers and layers of power, evil and control. Ugly thinking and actions hurt more than families, but also larger communities. The "real" world can learn from this imaginary story.
Absolutely love this series, you should read these in order so that you get to know the characters and each storyline is different but do have the characters from each previous. Sawyer’s bear is convinced Everly is his mate but Everly cannot accept that a bear and a cat can be mates. Sawyer is not good with expressing himself but his actions speak volumes. Everly was always told how to behave, where to go and what to do..... she hated that and rebelled constantly but she also paid the price for it. This story will certainly grab your attention and keep you interested in what happens next.....
Who doesn't love bear-shifters? I know I sure do, and Shifters of Bear's Den is one of my favorites. This is the 5th book in the series, and you can read it as a stand-alone but then you would be missing out on the big picture and the other amazing couples that make up this den of bears. Saywer might know from first-sight that Everly is his mate, but that doesn't mean things are going to be easy. The story is full of danger, excitement, and passion on every page, and it will keep you glued to the pages from beginning to end.
I voluntarily offered to review this book with no obligations and my opinions are honest
The characters + storytelling were very captivating
Her alpha tells Everly that she will give him an heir
She is having none of that.
Sawyer just found his mate on the side of the road.
When he tried to help, she said " No Thanks"
He was having none of that.
Will 2 stubborn shifters learn to compromise ?
The storytelling + the character's build were awesome!
It has all the ingredients that you need for a great book!
This was a good book. Solidly good. I hadn't read any of the others in the series yet so it was a lot of names all at once int he first pages but I got it sorted out.
The story line was nice, flowed well. The h was no an idiot and didn't make bad choices just because plot. Even the choices she made that I disagreed with she had good reasons for making. The H's motivations were always clear. They were not all weird and angsty.
Over all, this was a good read and I'm going to check out the rest of the series!
A lot better than I expected. Both MCs overcome their personal demons before committing to relationship. For a fated mates story setting that’s pretty amazing.
Male MC treats the female with respect while still protective. She gets to rescue him within the story/world parameters.
The world is darker than I would like so I’m not sure if I want to jump back to other books in the series even if this was was very satisfying. I’ll need to take. Break for sure or the humans in this world would piss me off too much.
This story could be a real heartbreaker if Everly and Sawyer weren't such strong characters. Instead we get a story that is hopeful, romantic, funny, and an action filled thrill ride. The overarching storyline of shifters and humans learning to live together is revisited and also tugs at your heart as the shifters are discriminated against. But, the clan proves to be the family you chose and their bond is everything Everly never knew existed. I love this series😘
I am seriously addicted to this author's work and am loving each new book she releases.
WOW the way this author adds different shifters to the mix is intriguing.
I am loving reading about each member of Beardan and find that each new story added just makes it more interesting.
This author knows how to keep you interest if you are a shifter lover and I would really suggest quite strongly reading this if you are.
I found it very hard to put this down once I had started.
Sawyer and Everly were so good together. Sawyer sees her and can't just leave her out on the side of the road, so he "saves" her and brings her to his Den. Everly is having an awful day and it just seems to keep getting worse. There was a lot of tension, heat, passion, lust, anger and fear. I was hooked and couldn't stop reading until the last page! Can't wait for more!
Brilliant read
Brilliant book loved the characters and story line Sawyer and Everly is Sawyers mate even though she resists at every turn she needs to decide between him and his clan or her pride that dont respect their women. Sawyer needs to show Everly life is better outside of her pride and she is his mate can they rescue each other before it’s too late
Another good one!
This was great. These only thing i would have more of would be the fight scene. Things moved to fast. I couldn't tell what was happening sometimes and had to reread.
A spinoff of her sister, Emery, would be good. That could be very interesting.
Jarring but good
Who can understand the mind of a shifter who's been violently abused and tormented by their own pack? Someone who's survived it himself....and who says he's her mate and he'll save her...will she let him?
wow another good read
This was long but good. Quiet Sawyer had a dark past. He meets his mate Everly who also has her skeletons. A lot of twist and turns and they are finally as one. Good read.
