The Poker Chip is another classic western with a bit of romance. Vance Brennan falls in love with Lexie Moody, but she marries someone else, who turns out to be a scoundrel. Jeff Warren bets his wife, Lexie, on a game of poker. The winner insists that Warren pay up, and he devises a scheme to have his wife kidnapped and taken to Mexico to pay off his gambling debt. Vance Brennan, who still loves Lexie, goes into Mexico and rescues her. But the Mexican tries to kidnap her once again. Brennan kills that kidnapper and goes after the Mexican to stop him from sending more kidnappers. Brennan marries Lexie and fights to save her life. But at the end, when her former husband, Jeff Warren, threatens to beat her to death, Lexie has to find a way to save herself because nobody else can do it. Another classic western from R. O. Lane.
Mr. Panelist have the patience of Job, as he efficiently grabs his readers immediately and never releases them until the final paragraph is finished. This story definitely was well researched and the excitement continuously increased with each new event. Too, the sequence of events leaves little to the imagination, but as each exciting episode develops I was compelled to continue the trip down memory lane, which were very compelling and heartwarming adventures.
Since five stars are the max, it says enough for another well written masterpiece by one of the most creative author's of our time, Mr. R. O. Lane. I have been, and continue to be, impressed with the compassion of this author and his apparent creative ability of our real old western folklore! The character selections never ceases to amaze me, and it doesn't matter if they are the good guys or the bad guys, they get their assignments completed, wherever they have to go. Too, there is so much family-friendly activities that compels the reader to have their complete attention immediately, and never lets them come up for a breath of air, until their assignments are completed. Great storylines that always maintained the reader's compete attention immediately, and throughout the entire book. Certainly recommend this book to all readers, whether you normally read western adventures, or not, as there is one exciting adventure after another. Plenty of action, enough romance, and exceptional camaraderie to fill everyone's desires from beginning to end! Read this book, or be an unimpressive loser!😂
This book is a good read but the plot is too predictable. The female lead character gets in trouble, her valiant boyfriend from yesteryear shoots his way clear. The girlfriend becomes the wife, gets into trouble, her valiant husband stops the love scene and shoots their way clear. All the spaces in between are spent in the bedroom. The female lead becomes a strong character and even shoots her way clear a few times. I really like the epilogue Lane finishes her book with. It leaves you with a good "finished" feeling.
Sometimes a dumb thing a person decides to do that is only a small item to them can cause the chain reactions that had me reading this book like it was pop corn, 5 STARS. Deputy Sheriff's, Mexican Criminal Gang Leaders of major gangs with high political & military influence, along with a deep abiding love of a woman from a man who had purest thoughts he would risk his life in order to save hers and all of this exciting story includes action with plenty of Shoot-em drama. This is an Old West Era Western for lovers of the genre.
This was an interesting western story complete with a hero and lovely woman. Vance had loved Lexi and was disappointed when she married a villainous man who bet his wife during a card game. She was carried across the Rio Grande but was rescued by Vance. The Mexican kidnappers plotted to kidnap Lexi again and took her deep into Mexico where she was held by a cartel leader. Vance was successful in distracting the cartel owner into a fight with another cartel while Vance rescued Lexi. Eventually, Lexi's former husband was determined to kill her for divorcing him. Vance had no choice but to kill the former husband.
This was a fast moving story with plots and subplots in which good triumphs over evil. It was an interesting story including the incursion deep into Mexico.
Vance and Lexie were totally full bodied characters. It was almost like they took on true life. Lexie was brave and feisty enough that she realized that sometimes you have to fight for your own forever love - Vance was just the man to do the dirty stuff to get it done. Great read!!!! BRAVO 👏👏👏BRAVO 👏BRAVO
This Western covers what happened when the spoiled son of a rich man loses more money than he can pay in a poker game and gives his wife instead of money to the winner. A great story which includes plenty of action along with an unusual love story. I highly recommend this author.
Another great story by this author. Exciting with many twists and turns. An unusual plot filled with many trails. Vance is a man who shows no fear. Although severely wounded a couple of times he was able to recuperate and accomplish his goals. I would recommend this book to all you fans of the old west. So, "Giddy Up."
Lexie's husband Jeff Warren used her as a poker chip and loses her to a Mexican rancher. Vance goes into Mexico freed her and brings her back to his place. After they marry, they kind of have targets on there backs with mexicans, outlaws, and crazy x-husband trying to kill them.
I have read all the books you have written and enjoyed each one. They are well written stories of hard-working people who overcome hardships and the challenges of pioneer, western America. Each has been a fun read.
I have read all the published books you have written and have enjoyed each one. Thank you. I look forward to your next book.
I like his books he has a writing style that grips your and takes you into the story. It makes me want to read his books. He has become a favorite author and look forward to reading more from him. I found his books by accident and have enjoyed reading each one I get.

I am well aware of the strong men and woman who founded the West. My grandfather and grandmother were part of that group! My grandfather Jack Peters was a forman for the JA ranch and lived on the ranch in 1915 to1922. I have heard that he was related to John Adair .but don't know how. I love the West and stories like this. Jacque Green
Life is n very easy but today it is easy to forget how much those who came before gave to form our nation. Good people called on to live through the toughest times with honor and courage… with perseverance. Very good story of people we would be proud and happy to know.
R.O.Lane is an old West romantic. Poker Chip shines as his best romantic novel yet. Oh, there's plenty of old West cowboy mayhem with multiple plot twists. It's a hard book to put down, so it's a fast read. You'd better block off some time for when you start reading this book. You may not want to put it down. Thank you, Mr. Lane
I was hooked from the first page! Alexis and Vance are totally committed to one another. I really liked that While she knew Vance would protect her, Lexus was determined to learn how to protect herself as well as Vance.
As usual, R. O. Lane sends us another great western. His cast of characters is always right on the money. I even looked up property for sale in Blanco, Texas hill country. Sad to say we won't end our RV journeys in Blanco. Property values are sky high.
I've all of Lanes books and he gets two thumbs up. I just wish he would write some more. I have read nearly all of the western that William A. Johnstone has written and R.O.Lame is just as good.
This was a well written book, it kept me very interested until the very end. The author knows the old west and uses this knowledge to write how it really was in those times.
This book was so good I couldn't put it down and when I did I couldn't wait to get back into it. I have read several of Mr. Lane' s books and have enjoyed every one of them tremendously.
Clever title, great plotting, very good writing.I This story isn't exaggerating when it demonstrates go one event can lead directly to so many other events. Ripples, indeed.
Fast moving and full of suspense. Lance and Lexie stand up to mexican kidnappers and mafia and an evil ex husband. They make a team to b e reckoned with and triumph in the end.I
Loved this story with all y heart. The author has a gift of bringing the reader into the action. I swear l could smell the dust and campfires! A great read for all who love westerns!
Dear Mr. R.O.- By now you know that I am definitely HOOKED on the work you do in writing some of the best "horse shut and gun powder" books/stories I've ever had the great pleasure of reading. Thank you...Ed G.
Deputy loses his goal to a spoiled rich boy but sons her back after rescuing her. Set both on Texas border and Bill Country. Good tale I think you'll enjoy. I
I sincerely enjoy Mr. Lane stories on the old west. He keeps me entertained with every book . He knows how to make the characters come to life. I look forward to reading all of his tales. Thank you again.
Thank you for writing such a good book of the West and it's characters. You have some how found a way to develop western characters with great story lines. Keep writing and I'll keep reading.
Another good book by R. O.. I enjoy his books. I like a strong male character and a strong loving female character and a happy ending ,so as a story it was all I could ask for.
Vance is a quiet resourceful going man, lonesome for a family of his own. He thought he had lost his only love, but time and true love proved him wrong.
Thus one was the best surprise. The twist at the end had me on the edge of my seat. I didn't see it coming. I highly recommend all of your books for the greatest stories!😀
As I've come to expect from the author another interesting and entertaining tale with all the right elements to make it great reading. I'm definitely a fan and look forward to his next book.
