I wish there was a third book in this series! I loved meeting all the characters and seeing how God worked in their lives. Or couldn't work due to no relationship or disobedience. I love a fiction book that I can learn from and be encouraged! I will definitely read more by Nancy Moser.
This is the third book in a series from Nancy Moser. It was an enjoyable read but it didn't resonate with me as much as the first two books did. Still a good series but it just seemed to lose momentum in this book.
Merry Cavanaugh is one of the characters from the first book, while she is not the pivotal character in this book, you do see how she has handled her life after the death of her family. Claire Adams is also a character, she was in the second book and has a role in this book also.
The main character is Jered Manson the son of a restaurant owner in Steadfast, Kansas. Jared's father Bailey is more concerned with his top tier restaurant than, with his son. As long as Jared has a home and attends school as he should Bailey is oblivious. So good kid, acting out for attention, Jared is about 18 and ends up leaving home and taking a job as a dishwasher in a restaurant not to far from Steadfast. From that point on his life starts to go down hill.
This is a good series, I just felt that this book lacked the focus of the previous. Still its worth reading and the outcome is great.
Wow! What a fabulous end to a fantastic series! Once again Nancy Moser introduces characters who lodge in the heart. In this case, the book alternates between Annie, who is feeling her way in her new Christian faith, (despite heated objections from her husband) and teenaged Jered, who has left the small town of Steadfast and become involved with a mentor/friend who is clearly bad news.
Both storylines kept me riveted, and when they merge at the end, the results create nail-biting suspense.
The supporting characters are wonderful, and familiar faces from book 2 reappear including Jered's difficult father, and librarian, Merry Cavanaugh among others. Annies' battle of faith is well presented, as is Jered's (to a lesser degree). For readers looking for a compelling story with strong characters and a beautiful message of faith, I highly recommend this book, and all three novels in the series.
This is a very different, enjoyable book, and I am so glad I read it. The manner in which Nancy Moser demonstrated how quickly our temptations or impulses can lead us down the wrong path is a great lesson for all of us. The spiritual growth some characters showed, and the forgiveness some found, was heartening. Spiritual conflict within families can be a problem they need to work through at times, especially when one spouse becomes a Christian and the other spouse does not agree with the change they are demonstrating. I highly recommend this book.
Have you ever been given an ultimatum? Has there been a time you reached a crossroads in your life where a life-altering decision had to be made? This is the third book in Moser's Steadfast trilogy and tells the story of those who were challenged to make a choice. Merry felt torn between her husband and Jesus. Eighteen year old Jered had to choose between being a puppet for a criminal or returning home and asking his father's forgiveness.
Overall, I enjoyed the book but felt parts were contrived and unrealistic. However, I did enjoy the modern day retelling of the Prodigal Son.
I haven’t read a book this good in a long time! I was drawn in from the very beginning, and although it is the third book in a series, I started with this one.
It can definitely be read as a stand alone, but now I want to go back and read the first two.
The characters are very believable, and then in and around 60% of the book, it grabs your attention full force and doesn’t let up till the very end.
I was on the edge of my seat multiple times, needing to know what would happen next.
Highly recommend!! I do believe I may have found a new author! I really hope there is going to be a book 4.
Nancy, I commend you for making the Gospel so plain and really the focus of the story. I had a hard time stopping reading to get on with my daily chores. It is so refreshing to read as good Christ center fiction book. Too many books that claim to be Christian really aren't. Kiddos to you for an excellent story.
Moser keeps you on the edge of your seat while explaining everyone’s need for forgiveness. The post script about the ending change compliments of her publisher, it made the book even better. Thank you Nancy Moser for another great book! I’m sorry to leave Steadfast.
This series includes easy reads with a simplistic story line, predictable even. And yet, reading them has been a joy and an exhortation to me. I hope it will be the same for you.
I really enjoyed the first and last book of this series. Simple reading, good application of scripture to each section of thought, and a diligent purpose to the only way to heaven—Jesus Christ.
Ten stars! I didn't think any thing could pass book one, The Seat Beside Me, but this one did. Once I got past the first chapter and fixing dinner, I couldn't stop reading. The only reason it's started and finished on two different dates is because I stayed up most of the night reading it!
I guess the best way to describe this is a thriller. It had the components of a good edge of your seat thriller, whilst being thrilling in the way that it glorified God. A wonderful book!
This book helped me to learn about prayer. The fact that the author has written several books that this book is life-changing and points to find Jesus.
I'm so glad I read to the end of the series.. Annie and Merry never gave up praying for people, even when it seemed impossible. God knows and hears each request.
Jered Manson didn’t get along with his dad and left home. He ended up working in a restaurant for the owner, Jinko. Soon Jinko expected Jered to join him in a life of crime. Annie McFay and her husband, Cal, were having marital problems. He was disappointed in her decision to follow Christ. She wanted to share her faith with him, but he was only interested in get-rich-quick schemes, which always failed. When Cal falsely bragged about having valuable coins, he and Annie come face-to-face with Jered and Jinko. This was a good story about decisions, consequences, forgiveness, and moving on.
