A selection of articles from leading educationalists and school leaders with a track record of improving outcomes for children and young people with additional needs, highlighting the significant role that leadership plays in shaping effective practice in SEND. Great Expectations is divided into eight Leadership; Improving Outcomes; Teaching and Learning; Working with Learners, Parents and Carers; Assessment and Identification; Monitoring, Tracking and Evaluation; Efficient Use of Resources; and Developing Provision. Each part includes a broad national perspective, practical examples of what has worked for schools in their context and a series of questions for reflection with links to further reading.
I rated this as 4 rather than 5 stars as I work in a SEN school and the book focuses more on mainstream policy. However this is a really informative and thought provoking book and the contributors are inspiring with excellent case studies. The resources and references are superb and contemporary and it’s a book I will refer back to over this coming year.
Great advice for anyone leading a mainstream school & wondering how to get the best out of the SEND department or how to make the school more inclusive.
I loved this book. Full of practical strategies and ideas for ongoing improvement to SEND provision. I liked the lay out and the key questions. This book will fully support you through a SEND audit of provision in a coherent and structured way. I’m looking forward to doing just that.
