What would you do if the person you love was fired because of a kiss? What does it mean being normal? Is it right to come out or consider your sexual orientation a private matter?
These questions are the inspiration for Mr. Menu, a novel that, playing with the stereotypes linked to the gay world, using the light language of comedy, deals with sensitive issues such as discrimination and homophobia.
Manuel, who works as a maître in a restaurant, intends to take revenge on Lucrezia, the owner, guilty of the dismissal of his partner, Hari, dishwasher of the local. The dismissal is due to a scandalous kiss that the two men have exchanged some time before, in front of the customers of the restaurant and in particular in front of the President of the homophobic association called Normal Is Beautiful. Manuel decides to implement his revenge in the evening, in which, following a tip, the arrival of two gastronomic critics is eagerly awaited.

Thea Bricci was born in the northern portion of Italy. When she was a child, she liked writing fables, short poems, and fun fiction about her favorite cartoons and films. She attended classical studies, and in her twenties, she realized she needed to express herself in writing, so after her degree in Italian literature, she also received a master’s degree in screenplay. During a journey in Venice, Florence, and Rome, she knew the great power of art, through the vision of artists like Botticelli, Caravaggio, and Canova. She takes often inspiration from works of art for her stories. She loves travelling but also staying at home wearing comfortable slippers and drinking tea. Her dream is writing a screenplay for a film based on the biography of her favorite painter, Gino Grimaldi.

Thea Bricci è nata in Oltrepo Pavese. Ha frequentato gli studi classici, per poi sentire il bisogno di esprimersi attraverso la scrittura di racconti, drammaturgie e sceneggiature. Durante i viaggi attraverso l'Italia, alla scoperta di città come Venezia, Firenze, Roma e Napoli ha potuto conoscere e comprendere il grande potere dell'arte che per lei è da sempre una grande fonte di ispirazione e di nutrimento intellettuale. Adora i gatti e ama camminare nella natura. Ama viaggiare, ma anche stare in pantofole e gustare vari tipi di tè. Il Principe Triste è il suo romanzo d'esordio. Il suo sogno è scrivere una sceneggiatura basata sulla vita del pittore Gino Grimaldi.

Ho preso questo libro incuriosita dalla trama e dal momento che era un omaggio per superare questo periodo di emergenza, non avevo mai letto questa autrice, e beh, mi sono trovata a leggere un non cliché abituale, infatti i personaggi hanno tutti un loro dire, ma in più, condito con una vendetta, si dice che la vendetta sia un piatto da gustare freddo.
Ci troviamo in un locanda di un paese di moralisti, "sottobanco" ma che poi hanno i loro scheletri da nascondere,
La locandiera Lucrezia, che tratta male i suoi dipendenti, a maggior ragione se sono stranieri e sottopagati.
Un maître, che sa di essere gay ma, non può comportarsi da tale.
Un tutore della legge che deve giostrarsi tra il piacere e il dovere.
La bigotta che vuole impartire il suo credo.
E poi gli ignari, Food writers che si trovano in una serata fuori dall'ordinaria follia e vendetta messa in atto.
Ho trovato molto piacevole questa lettura e la consiglio.

Carino,divertente e molto realistico! Il boom della cucina ha ormai fatto breccia su tutti i canali Tv e anche qualche autore si è lanciato in questa avventura! Un racconto che mi è piaciuto molto, forse un esperimento dell'autrice rispetto al suo precedente lavoro, totalmente diverso. Qualche riga in più sul protagonista non sarebbe guastata, soprattutto riguardo alla sua vita amorosa...

Ho acquistato questo libro per pura curiosità, non avendo mai letto Thea Bricci non sapevo cosa aspettarmi.
Mi sono trovata immersa in un clima divertente, dove l'autrice ha esasperato al massimo tutti i cliché della natura umana:
- la signora bigotta;
- l'uomo gay, eccessivo in tutto;
- l'ufficiale controllato che lotta tra dovere e piacere;
- La titolare che sfrutta i dipendenti e tanto altro.
La lettura risulta veloce e rilassante, le risate sono assicurate e il tempo impiegato per la lettura diventa una piacevole paura dalla vita stressante.
Faccio i complimenti all'autrice.
