Zinnia Riddle has been through a rough patch, but she's not broken. This witch is tougher than she looks. Yank off her arm? She'll patch it back on with some black scarabyce blood. Mess with her coworkers? She'll grab her purse full of magic and come for you!
Now that she's the boss of her own department, life seems simple enough. Sure, there are strange creatures crawling out of the ceiling, but that's life in a magical town like Wisteria.
But when two of her coworkers go missing, Zinnia springs into action. All this nonsense with the third floor has gone on long enough. If nobody else is going to fix the problem, she will. With the help of her friends, Zinnia whips up a new potion and takes a journey to somewhere she's never been.
Will the gang be able to defeat an enemy unlike any they've ever seen? Or will they be too distracted by their new powers?
Only time will tell, and time is a fickle monster, indeed.
This is the second book in the City Hall series, which centers on Zinnia Riddle (Aunt Zinnia).
USA Today Bestselling author Angela Pepper lives with her family in the rainy Pacific Northwest, surrounded by spoiled kitties, deer, raccoons, and the biggest woodpeckers you've ever seen.
Wisteria Wrinkle by Angela Pepper and narrated by Rosemary Benson is an audible book I requested and the review is voluntary. I really enjoy this series! It is fast, fun, full of magic, creatures, and humor. I love how the characters interact with each other and the realistic dialogue between them. The plot is full of unexpected twists and I love the journey! This book deals with a time wrinkle and the crazy things brought on by traveling through it! We learn more secrets about the staff at the City Hall too! This series is truly an amazing series for someone that wants just a little magic in their life!
This book was a huge disappointment. I love the Wisteria Witches series and hold those five books as my some my favorites from 2018, but the City Hall series is dull and plodding in comparison. While I liked the first book enough to give it one more go, Wisteria Wrinkle is the end for me.
The characters are dull, bland and forgettable on the page and a town that usually comes vibrantly to life in *Witches* feels small and claustrophobic in comparison. None of the city hall workers are as compelling as Zara, Zoey, Frank or Corbin. Even the Gorgon sisters, who I really enjoy, are only a minor sparkle here.
I wish I could give a better, more comprehensive review but this was just a snorefest. Too many forgettable characters, too many slow "plot twists", nothing to really tug at the heart or keep me interested. I can read Zara's books in a matter of days, while this second Zinna book took me a month and a half.
The author seems to be spreading her exciting world and thoroughly enjoyable talents too thin with this dual series, and I fear it's only going to get worse when the third series - helmed by Zoey - begins. I'm not done with this author yet, but I definitely done with this side series.
This is Wisteria Wrinkle, book 2 of the Wisteria Witches series, written by Angela Pepper. It’s hard not to fall into the crazy world of Wisteria and love all of the wacky characters. Zinnia works in the City Hall Permit Office with a ragtag bunch of co-workers. It seems that we are constantly revealing a different type of shifter or magical being. We really get to know all of Zinnia’s co-workers and learn some of their secrets. When she and Margaret accidentally gain entry to another time and dimension, things get tangled and confused quickly. I loved every word and can’t wait for our next installment!
2020 bk 400. Wow - Paranormal mixed with science fiction mixed with fantasy mixed with office politics. Wisteria Wrinkle takes the fans of Aunt Zinnia on a ride as she crosses the elevator door of time (lots of Dr. Who references) to save 2 fellow office workers and Wisteria from doom. Can't say much more than that!
This one was a bit different than the usual mystery. I love that they finally figure out where the two younger employees are going during their breaks. I hate that creatures kidnap Xavier and take him hostage. I love that everyone in the office is a supernatural and how they all go to the other world to save their friends. I love how the gnome is able to go back to the real world and come back to save them all. I found it slightly confusing when they had the same person in the same place at the same time. Overall I enjoyed reading about Zinnia and taking a little break from Zara.
WISTERIA WRINKLE is the second book in the Wisteria Witches, City Hall series. They do need to be read in the order of release and they are intertwined with the Wisteria Witches series. While you don’t necessarily need to read that series, there are references that will make more sense if you know the characters and circumstances. I would recommend reading this one after WICKED WISTERIA. (That’s where I am in the series.)
I love this series and its companion. The many magical beings and the humor keep me glued to my car seat long after I have turned off the engine. I love the characters and how they interact and speak to each other – like true friends and coworkers.
In this particular episode, the journey is more than an adventure. It is a lifetime and … well, I don’t want to give anything away, but that wrinkle in the title isn’t referring to anyone’s laugh lines!
I particularly loved the Dr. Who and Star Trek (red shirt) references. Those had me laughing extra hard.
I don’t know yet what the next title in this series is, but I know that I am looking forward to it and the rest of the Wisteria town antics.
Narration: Rosemary Benson continues to be a perfect choice for voicing the many characters in the Wisteria City Hall, especially snarky Margaret.
Note: While I received this book as a gifted audiobook copy, my opinions are my own and are given freely.
Title: WISTERIA WRINKLE Series: Wisteria Witches, City Hall #2 Category /Genre: Paranormal Cozy Mystery Recommended for: 18+ due to sexual content Listenability: OK for ears Received from: Angela Pepper (as an Audible gifted copy)
(I'm writing this review after the fact, so I'll try to keep my comments solely to this book and not the series.)
This book felt like a giant reset on what you think you know about Wisteria. There are have so many "new" supernatural characters that I felt like Angela Pepper was giving me the chance to take a breath and really commit these already-familiar names to these not-so-familiar supernatural faces, so to speak.
From a plot perspective, however, I didn't really care for the storyline for the majority of the book. I loved watching the relationships develop over the course of these two books, and I even felt sympathy for certain characters by the end of this book. However, I really didn't care about and then I was truly curious about how the story would end. That being said, the way this book handled was pretty cool. It didn't leave me with many logistics questions (at least, not in-depth ones), and it contributed to a bittersweet ending when it was all said and done, so I can't say that I didn't like this book.
This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.
Zinnia Riddle is back in full force! This novel takes place during and makes references to Wisteria Witch Mysteries 2-4
Now that we've gotten to meet the cast at City Hall (why isn't it Town Hall when Wisteria is a town?) during Wolves of Wisteria - Wisteria Wrinkle really fleshes them out and brings them to life as we discover more about them and they discover much more about each other. We also get some brand new characters that push the plot along to places you wouldn't expect.
I don't want to spoil the incredible journey the characters undertake but I was pleasantly surprised at every crazy turn - especially seeing how certain plot threads and easter eggs connected.
Now that Zara and Zoey are living in Wisteria we get a little more of them but this book definitely is all Zinnia's book and better for it.
Rosemary Benson does an outstanding job managing character voices - including for some decidedly non-human characters.
We learn more about Wisteria's past and it makes me excited for its future.
I loved it! What an amazing story! The adventures Zinnia and other characters of this book have, have made me read this book in a record time... It is addictive until the end and it will amaze you how Angela Pepper perfectly orchestrated this story in time and space! (You’ll understand once you read, no spoilers...)
I think this book is my favorite amongst the Wisteria books/series! I already loved this series before the Zinnia stories where created, now I am even more a fan!
Congrats to Angela for her amazing writing and storytelling! The story was perfect in length, suspense, humor with enough magic and intrigue to keep you reading till the end. Must say I wouldn’t change or comment a negative thing about it! Just let there be more to come 🙏🏻
Unique is this series and mostly addictive lol I rate it 5 stars and would give it a special 🌟 star extra if I could because it was so good 😊
Another enjoyable storyline with the second book in this series. This part was quite a gripping tale, very detailed and great information on the characters. With Zinnia I have sometimes problem to understand her behaviour, she wants to help everyone but somehow she cannot open up herself. Very dry humour with sarcastic answers, don't know if it really suitable for her, Somehow I feel she has a problem with her feelings. Same with Margaret, she is not a very likeable character and I am sorry that she is not speaking with Zinnia about her marriage, she is her best friend, but didn't come over like one. But well it was a good storyline and I have enjoyed it, the only thing I liked more is more interactions with Zara and Zoey, she speaks and thinks so lovely of them and what there have done together, but never get more information or insight in this story, and what happened to Fung? Has she no lover anymore in her life, not very exciting.
Okay, so I like Zinnia but I have to admit that she's just not as entertaining as Zara and her daughter Zoe. I think a small part of it is due to some of the surrounding characters (not a huge fan of Margaret) but the majority I think is simply that Zinnia is just not as sassy and quick with the quips. This story was better paced though and I finished it much faster than the first book dedicated to Zinnia. This whole series is a lot of fun and I am definitely looking forward to the next book. Great series for those who like magic, mystery, humor and romance.
Parents- These would be in the PG13 due to writing style, mild language, and some suggestive content/humor. Great for high school age teens and up.
—I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
Part of the reason I’m so enthralled with this series is the cheeky vibe, the punchy one-liners, and the flippant allusions to things I geek out about on the regular. For instance in Wisteria Wrinkle, we wind up using an elevator to transport us to different periods of time and space, almost like we’re embarking on the Tardis, or we call the giant sand worms a la the Fremen of Dune, or the reference to wearing a “red shirt” as a part of a reconnaissance landing party beamed down from the Enterprise.
But the main reason I love this series, and find myself coming back to it again and again, is the characters. Whether we’re dealing with Zara, Zoe, and the wonders of Wisteria or Zinnia and the cooky antics of her coworkers at city hall, I can’t help but fall in love with the magic and mayhem that always seems to find the Riddle women.
Absolutely love those Riddle girls. Zoey, a teenage girl, and her mother, Zara, recently moved to Wisteria. Zara's Aunt Zinnia is also a witch and works within City Hall. If you read Zinnia's first book you'll know that building is quite odd. Things only get more paranormal this time with time travel, talking snakes and a troll. If you're familiar with the Riddles already and have read Zara's series this one fits between books 3 and 4. Not necessary to read them first but as a fan parts of the story are recognizable and character references make more sense. If you're a fan of Back to the Future this should be fun to follow. I always find Pepper's books entertaining, surprising and educational. I was pleased to receive an early copy and wrote my review voluntarily.
Prepare yourself for a wonderful ride. This is such a fantastic book! Funny, and yet filled with suspense and intrigue. This time, all the magical co-workers from the City Hall Permit Office are in a quest to save the youngsters (aka 'red-shirts'), and to do so, they will need to be smart, very, very smart.
The characters are fantastic, the relationship between Zinnia and Margaret is so real that you can see yourself falling into that kind of discussions... sans the magic, of course!
Wrinkles in time, lava gods, serpentine goddesses and all the fun you can expect from this series :D
Rosemary Benson does a superb job with this story, adding to the enjoyment with her narration.
This should really have come after book 4 of the Wisteria Witches series as it rather spoilt the book in that you knew how things would end. This is Zinnia's story and her work at City Hall. When the two youngest members keep going missing at lunch time she and Margaret are intrigued especially as it seems linked to the strange events that happened when City Hall was first being built. Mix in time travel, portals, gods and the need to find out what exactly happened in 1955 for a great read. However it was slightly spoilt that book 6 of Wisteria Witches gave the ending away.
Again, I love this book. City Hall is my fave. Zinnia is much better from her own perspective than from Zara's. I love the plot - time travel is the tits. I also love how this ties in and gives backstory to things we know from Zara's stories!!
I still am not a fan of the narrator's non-Zinnia character voices. They all melt together. Also, it super bothers me that the voices for characters that are the same as in Zara's book (Zara, Chloe, Rhys, etc) are different than the other narrator's voices. The other narrator gave Rhys a heavy Irish/Scottish accent. But this narrator doesn't do that and it is just so annoying.
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. Being a fan of the original Wisteria series I am excited about this twist of perspective. In the first book I was unsure if I would like this new perspective, however Aunt Zinnia is quirky in a more subdued way than her niece. I like the background you get along with all new adventure and mystery, while weaving the Zara storey line through it. The City Hall Gang is quirky, and funny. I can't wait to see what they get up to next!
Another fabulous Wisteria Witches book. This story is told from Zinnia's perspective and involves weird happenings at City Hall, magic, time travel, a zany cast of characters and more than a little intrigue. You do not have to read these books in order but they are great books so I suggest you at least read the first one which gives a wonderful introduction to Wisteria and some character background. Wisteria Wrinkle is fun and easy to read and I thoroughly recommend it to everyone .. it's a great book.
I am a big fan of Angela Pepper. I don't like Zinnia. Her personnality is hard to understand. She comes across as uptight, jugemental with a little je ne sais quoi. The first part of the book(up to 46%) was realy boring with all the office gossip that didn't seem to bring to story forward.
I bought this book in april 2018, finished it today because I wanted to read about Zara and Zoey. I skipped the next Zinnia and will not read to third one. I don't see the point.
Will keep reading Mrs. Pepper book(my favorites are the Stormy Days).
I enjoyed this audiobook much more than Wolves of Wisteria. I think the change in narrator, change in point of view, and change in tone, threw me rather. Having now adjusted to these, I was able to enjoy this much more. Zinnia seems happier in this story, which definitely added to my enjoyment. It was fun to return to the City Hall permits department, and all the interesting characters who work (or worked, in one case) there. The mystery element was intriguing, and it was fun hearing it gradually unfold.
The narration was excellent, good expression, and really brought the story to life.
Zinnia Riddle and her coworkers find themselves in a world of trouble
Zinnia and Margaret work in the permits department and they are among other supernatural beings, but some don't know it. Lisa is another coworker they notice she's been down lately and reach out to her,but the also notice that strange creatures are being sites around city hall and they think it's connected to Liza. Lisa escapes to the third floor everyday for lunch with her boyfriend, what the lady's find when they investigate is beyond what either ever imagined.
Wisteria Wrinkle (Wisteria Witches #7, City Hall #2) was a great read by Angela Pepper. Zinnia Riddle has been through a rough patch that hasn't broken her. She's definitely tougher than she looks. She's the boss of her own department, even if she's the only member of her department. There are strange creatures that are crawling out of the ceiling, that is typical in Wisteria. Zinnia springs into action when two of her coworkers go missing. Her friends help her trying to find her coworkers. I enjoyed reading this book and cant wait to read more by the author.
After loving the first book, I was disappointed with this story. Don’t get me wrong, Zinnia is a great character, and Harper almost frenemy relationship with Margaret, and the other magical folk in town is amusing. However, this storyline was just way out there and was slow and lacked a lot of the zip the previous story had.
Will pick up the 3rd book as I’m hoping this was just second book syndrome.
Forward to the past? Zinnia (a witch), and her coworkers (a witch, a troll, a card mage, and others) from city hall wind up doing some very interesting and unexpected time traveling to a real sci fi of a situation courtesy of an elevator portal! A very busy story that kept my attention all day while doing the odious chores. Amazing! The narrator is Rosemary Benson who has a very large entourage of character voices.
This one is about Xinhua and her work colleagues again, this time the find a third floor that is different to their third floor where the meet the triplets grandmother. There is heartache for Margaret when she learns Mike has been having an affair, can her marriage come back from it? The 7 colleagues find out more about each other and their magical powers. They have to work together to overcome so much to get back to the Wisteria they know and love.
I had taken a bit of a break after reading Book #6 but was pleased to return to this delightful series.
The story itself is set parallel to events in earlier books and focuses on Zinnia Riddle and her co-workers at City Hall. I did a combined read/listen.
I enjoyed the main storyline though I won’t spoil with details but found it inventive and twisty.
I also felt that Rosemary Benson did a superb job of bringing the characters to life.
With her recent promotion at work. Zinnia tries to stay focused on her job now that she's a department section of one. When two of the younger employees in the department she is still sharing offices with keep disappearing. Zinnia and her best friend decide to find out what's up. And it's something that they would have never suspected.
After the two disappear and don't return. The entire office goes on a rescue mission.
