A great snarly, sarcastic female protagonist who maintains her strength of character though adversity. Her djinni life has come to something of a career full-stop with plenty of hostile djinn to keep her life full of surprises. There's our inappropriate female protagonist, her ex-boyfriend who fancies himself as the ultimate Casanova, her completely sexy bestie who injects her own brand of humour, the female police officer who appears to becoming a fast friend, the dour geek, the cute trainee witch who keeps the youth of the world going strong, and the tall and sexy nephilim who remains somewhat of a mystery.

If you like fast paces action, a sassy lead female, plenty of humour without making the novel trite and a plot that keeps you going.

Fantastic

Have throughly enjoyed the first 2 books in this series can't wait for the next one. Interaction between the characters kept you thinking what was going to happen next. Can't wait to see what sort of relation is going to happen between Reed and Alyse and if there is anything the Prince

A fall from grace requires an adjustment period, especially when you fall from being the top dog, to the bottom. When almost everyone is your enemy, you learn to value the few friends that you have or make along the way. Our heroine is learning that the hard way, trying to survive at the bottom of the heap.

When a story is told in the first person, the author has to create a character that draws in her/his readers. It's a fine line to tread. Annabel is a master storyteller, and drew me into the story in the first chapter of the first book, and has done it again in this one. Alyse is not the most personable personality in this series, she has character flaws. Once you become a friend of this prickly pear, though, her loyalty knows no bounds.

Thank you for the story, Annabel. A+ for the delivery and the surprises along the journey. As for the grammar, there are a couple of items in the notes for your next revision.

good

I really like Alyse and her friends in this book. She doesn’t normally participate in the games that are almost like gladiator games but her friend pinky has been chosen and she’s going to be her back up in these games. Pinky is a young mage and doesn’t realize the danger that she will be in.Alyse does not have her gin magic, but she is going to participate in the games anyway. Without her magic she’s as helpless as a human but she ends up kicking butt anyway. She also is friends with a Nephilim, but she doesn’t want to admit that she may have feelings for him because he’s a Nephilim not a gin. I hope the whole series does not include Alyse wearing her magic blocking cuffs because it was going to get kind of boring. I will definitely be reading the next book in the series.

Alyse is still searching for the reason she was burned, missing her powers but starting a new life with her friends.
When it is announced that the Colony Games, a supernatural contest of might, is coming to town, things start to get very interesting.
After one of the local mage contestants gets some strange powers and has to be killed for safety, Alyse’s friend Pinky is chosen to replace him. Because Pinky is still very you (18), Alyse tries to get her out of it due to the danger involved. When another mage contestant shows up with the same powers and dies, Alyse and Captain Reed manage to become the replacements.
This book has action, lots of magic, a mystery – who, what and why, as well as some humour and a possible romance.
This is one of those books that I find hard to review without giving things away.
But it is definitely worth reading, a very good read.

There is actual growth for almost all of the characters in this one. The plot advances and there is closure in some of the lines that had been in the first book as well as new ones that settled into this book. There are obvious sections that were set up for later books too. I think the author really repeats certain information way too much. For example, the info about the copper bracelets/cuffs are mentioned in almost every chapter - over, and over. I think we are aware.... Also, comments about how badass Alyse would be if she had her djinni powers - what she would do, how things would be different. Why keep reminding us of that? Deal with what you have - which she does well sometimes. A few editing errors but nothing major. Overall, a creative series which I will keep reading. I just wish it wasn't so repetitive.

Pinky is to participate at the deadly Colony Games so naturally, Alyse newest mission is to do everything in order to save her new protégé.
I wasn’t sure about this one but was positively surprised to find this second book not only much better than the first but also quite entertaining.
The characters are all showing more sides and we learn more about this world, also getting a bit of intrigue.
That said, I still don’t get why have a djinni as main character only to have her cuffed and powerless. I mean, I do understand why the author chose that way but seriously, it’s such a missed opportunity. A djinni is so rare as a main, I want her living those incredible powers of her, not just hearing about them every other page. It’s getting old fast.
But I fear, those cuffs won’t come off until the last one - if at all. What a shame …

Since I don't normally write reviews unless I have something specific to say, here's the break down of how I rate my books...

1 star... This book was bad, so bad I may have given up and skipped to the end. I will avoid this author like the plague in the future.

2 stars... This book was not very good, and I won't be reading any more from the author.

3 stars... This book was ok, but I won't go out of my way to read more, But if I find another book by the author for under a dollar I'd pick it up.

4 stars... I really enjoyed this book and will definitely be on the look out to pick up more from the series/author.

5 stars... I loved this book! It has earned a permanent home in my collection and I'll be picking up the rest of the series and other books from the author ASAP.

pinkie and the brain!!!!

Ok I just can’t help it! Alyse and Pinkie have become quite the pair and I love it. Alyse has a seriously awesome gang- though she takes it for granted sometimes. She’s getting better. And she’s still cuffed. It’s been quite fun watching her struggle because she never had to. Like ever. Her hair issues make me laugh! And things are heating up. She’s still trying to figure out how she was cuffed and now she’s off galavanting with all these other obstacles and adventures. She’s growing. And in a good way! I’m hooked and I can’t stop reading this series!

4.5 stars. I really liked this second installment of the series. Alyse is making the best of her “burned” situation, and Alyse and Pinky are now business partners.

The main plot surrounds a magical competition between supernaturals, and unusual behaviors of some local mages and the Ghuls.

Onto the next one!

some holes and missed opportunities in the plot an action, some of which can only be considered contrived in order to make another novel, but overall still an enjoyable novel. movement on all plot lines including a conclusion to the Colony Games plot (no cliffhangers), and development of characters and relationships. a few editing glitches. I will definitely be reading the next novel in the series. read my progress reports for some funny quotes!

Is It Really A Game?

Alyse and Pinky work together. Alyse teaches her survival and other useful life lessons. She joins the mage team when an inexperienced Pinky is chosen to replace a murdered team member to protect her. Captain Reed joins to protect Alyse. I like the action, snarky humor, and tentative romance. Will Alyse regain her powers? I look forward to the next book.

Full Of Snark And Non-stop Action!

I'm loving this series! It's full of action and a snarky fmc that's good at kicking butt and making enemies. I'm also really liking that the fmc is a djinni... And an ex-spy. Add a smidgen of Burn Notice, supernatural and human crime syndicates, a plethora of other supernaturals, and you have the makings of a truly unique and fun series! Books 3 and 4, here I come!

With, Not For, Is Key

MagicBullet2

A host of out-of-town strangers.
A mage who shoots lightning from his fingers.
A mage who breathes fire.
A flock of Ghuls.

What do these have In common? Alyse doesn’t know yet, but she will find out. While trying to train Pinky to use her magic as a weapon, encouraging Mix to try dating again, and steering clear of amorous overtures from Flynn.

And Reed keeps reading her mind.

Captivating

This book was truly a joy to read. It had everything. There's drama, intrigue romance, comedy and a heroine that you will love to root for. I read books to get carried away on an adventure and the Magic Bullet series totally fits the bill. I can't wait to read book 3. Well done Ms Blythe.

It's nice to see Alyse's circle further expand as she gathers more friends and allies. As she continues her overarching mission to figure out the details about her burn notice, she also finds herself pulled into local occurrences. This is another fast-paced story, featuring political intrigue, devious machinations, and plenty of magic!

Things Are Getting Intense

The Tournament is here and things are happening, that are not as they should be and by the time they are figured out, our team is in grave danger.

This book is full of twists and turns and now we find out, what is behind curtain three. Could this be the reason for the burn notice? Things just get better, whit each book.

Well, the story is mainly about character growth I think, Alyse is learning to care about more than herself. In this books it's about her mage young friend. I really liked the book the author know how to tell a story.

Another brilliant book by this talented author

A great second chapter of this story. Alyse is still learning to cope without her powers and yet gets into numerous scraps with her companions. Will she ever find out who and why she was bound? Only time will tell.

This Alyse is going thru the looking glass of her own. Farrah and Pinky and Mix are turning out to be true blue as well as Reed and Flynn. She definately needs all the friends she can get. Can’t wait for the next in series!

Good new series!

Book 2 was even better than Book 1 because you already knew the characters. Although she added a few more, she was able to flesh out the primary ones even better! Reminds me of the Burn Notice TV show. I loved that show!
