Landry Family #4 & 5

The Landry Family Series: Part Two

Rate this book
The Landry Family Series is a feel-good, heart-warming series featuring strong alpha males and smart, capable heroines. Sweet and steamy, the Landry family enjoys favorite tropes such as second-chance romance, surprise babies, office lovers, sports and military romances and more.

Fall madly in love with this relatable, unforgettable family by USA Today Bestselling author Adriana Locke. This set includes two full novels—Swear and Swink

SWEAR

Ellie Pagan has a list of reasons to stay away from Ford Landry.

It’s a mile long and was so much easier to stick to when he was a world away. Now that he’s standing in front of her—body hard and chiseled from a stint in the military, suit cut to perfection, and a smirk she could never resist—remembering all the reasons why just got a whole lot harder.

Ford gets Ellie isn’t his biggest fan. He just doesn’t care.

Standing in front of him, giving him hell, she’s even prettier than he remembered. All he can think about is how she felt in his arms, the taste of her kiss, the sound of her giggle in the middle of the night. He may not know how to win her back, but he does know this: he may have let her go once, but that’s one mistake he won’t make again.

SWINK

I’m that guy.

Camilla Landry rustles against me, the silky fabric of her overpriced lingerie slipping along my bruised rib. The porcelain perfection of her skin is even more innocent against the colorful ink dotting my own. It’s demure meets damaged, pampered meets punctured.

So, yeah, it’s obvious I’m that guy. Dominic Hughes. Her attempt at rebellion. Her bid to see what the other side of the tracks feel like. I’m okay with being used because, from where I’m sitting, the other side of the tracks have never looked so good.

This is the 4th book in the Landry Family series and the first book in the two book second compilation. Because Locke decided to use Sienna Landry’s story to launch a new series hers sadly isn’t included as part of this series.
If you’ve read a synopsis of this book you know this is a second chance at love trope between Ford Landry and Ellie Pagan. Ford and Ellie fell in love early in high school and they were their first everythings. Shortly after high school graduation Ford enlists in the Marines and breaks up with Ellie devastating her and breaking her heart. As the story opens its ten years later. Ford has recently separated from the Marines and started his own security company. Ellie, after spending years in Florida earning her marketing degree and working to save up money has also returned to Savannah Ga. to open Halycon a trendy clothing store with her BFF Violet. Neither Ford nor Ellie have ever been able to truly move on in their romantic lives after their break up. Ellie has spent a decade convincing herself that she hates Ford for breaking her heart. Ford has come to the realization that Ellie is the only woman he’ll ever love. Due to some serious scheming by Ford’s sisters and his brother Graham and his girlfriend Mallory, Ford and Ellie come face to face for the first time in ten years as Ellie readies her store for its grand opening. Once the shock of seeing each other again clears, Ellie does her best to remind herself how Ford broke her heart while her traitorous heart and body want nothing more than to fall into his arms. Ford is very clear in what he wants. He wants Ellie forever and makes that clear from their first interactions. He’s not going to give up on winning Ellie back without a fight.
I found the pacing of this story odd. As upset as Ellie was with Ford it didn’t seem to take very long before she found herself with her legs wrapped around his hips. That it was going to happen eventually was a given. But how quickly she went from “I hate you!” to “make me come” surprised me. Before you know it Ford and Ellie for lack of a better term are dating, as in sleeping together almost every night. But after Ford turned her world upside down once without warning she’s constantly waiting for the other shoe to drop. She’s sleeping with Ford but she has one foot out the door. The idea that Ford may be leaving Savannah to serve on his older brother Bennett’s security team if he choses to run for the White House gives Ellie the reason she needs to fear Ford will once again abandon her. Ford is frustrated by Ellie’s lack of trust in him but he doesn’t seem to fully grasp or even try to understand the source of her fears. He does his best to reassure her that this time he’ll be there for her forever. While Ford and Ellie are busy trying to work out their issues, (or really Ellie is trying to deal with her fears and not overthink everything) there’s a side story concerning Ellie’s father Bill. Ellie’s mother passed away shortly after Ford left her. Her father has never recovered from the loss of is wife and has pretty much given up on life becoming a shut-in, severing connection with everyone in his life but Ellie since his wife’s death. He just sits around his house watching cowboy movie reruns on television all day. What Ellie doesn’t know is that her father has had a reoccurrence of cancer and has chosen not to go through treatments that might extend if not save his life. He’s tired of living. As her only living family member, being there for Ellie is the only reason he’s been holding on to his life. Which honestly didn’t make much sense to me because the guy did nothing to support Ellie other than exist. He’d barely takes his eyes off of his t.v. screen to pay any attention to her when she comes to visit him and seemed more than ready to see her leave after her brief visits as if she were an annoyance. Once he realizes Ford will be there to take care of her, he’s ready to shuck his earthly coil. Maybe Ellie should have clued in and got her father some treatment for depression a long time ago?
While Ellie struggles with dealing with the space she asked Ford to give her and what she thinks is a case of the flu, thanks to her two BFFs she makes a shocking discovery that throws a wrench in all of her best laid plans for her future. After that things happen really quickly for Ellie and Ford and the rest of the Landry family. Some deathbed advice from her father about storms and rainbows helps Ellie get her head on straight and move forward in her relationship with Ford. And boy do things move forward at head spinning speed towards their happily ever after.
Obviously I love romances and happily ever afters so I truly enjoyed seeing so many positive things happen for the Landry family in this story. It was joyful to see how the Landrys quickly enfolded Ellie an only child into their close-knit family. As Cam tells her, “You’re family now and we take care of our own.” In that context it was also nice to see the couples from the previous three books play active roles in this story and not fade away as happens in so many series. The author did seem to devote a lot of time in this book setting up Camilla’s or Swink’s book which is next in the series as the family continues to hound her about who the guy is that she’s seeing and she continues to refuse to tell them. But it wasn’t bothersome to me as it is when authors devote the entire epilogue to the next book. Good story with mostly happy feels and a lot that seems to happen very quickly.
Swink 3 stars
Well at least with this book unlike some of the other titles in this series I had no trouble relating the title to the book. Swink is the nickname Camilla’s late grandfather gave her because even as a young girl she was nosey. Although I confess I have no idea how Swink implies being nosey?
Camilla is as Dominic’s brother Nate (whom we met briefly in Swear as the bartender in the Gold Room) refers to her, The Princess of Savannah. She is the youngest of six children born to a wealthy, powerful, respected Georgia family. Bennett the eldest brother is the current Governor of the state. Her youngest brother Lincoln is a now retired former All Star and league MVP MLB player. Her brother Graham is the C.E.O. of the family’s corporation Landry Holdings and her other brother Ford is a newly retired highly decorated ex- Marine who owns a security company. Even her twin sister Sienna uses her fashion design degree to help support herself and calls L.A. home. Camilla at 25 years old defines “Trust Fund Baby.” Despite having a B.A. in liberal arts which she only earned to make her family happy, her only means of support is living off of the allowance from her trust fund her brother Graham manages. Her only goal in life since she was a little girl was to emulate her mother Vivian who is the epitome of class and perfection as a wife, mother and high society matriarch. Seems Swink’s biggest problem is as yet she hasn’t met a man to love and start her family with. She’s also realizing that doing charity work like her mother does isn’t as fulfilling as she’d thought it would be. For a twenty-five year old woman Swink or Cam doesn’t demand much independence from her overbearing brothers. In fact until she started dating Dominic Hughes on the downlow she pretty much lived her life exactly as they wanted her to.
Dominic Hughes our male protagonist grew up on the wrong side of the tracks the son of an alcoholic man and a mother who wouldn’t leave him. Dominic makes his living as an HVAC repairman and sometimes bartender and MMA fighter.
Early on its apparent that due to their different socio-economic classes neither Swink nor Dominic expect their relationship to go beyond the hot sex they enjoy with each other. But neither seems to be able to say goodbye and call an end to their relationship. Camilla seems to regretfully accept that fact, while Domenic just sees her as a rich girl using him for a little rebellion in her life by slumming it with a boy from the wrong side of the tracks she has deeper feelings for him that can’t go anywhere. Early on Domenic’s constant references to Camilla being nothing more than some rich girl he’s fucking really annoyed the hell out of me. He may not disrespect her to her face but the way he talks about her to his brother, even if it was just a way of protecting his heart from someone he believes can never be more, really grated on me. Dominic eventually is forced to admit if only to himself that he has deeper feelings for Cam. Cam’s feelings for Dominic force her to for the first time stand up for what she wants to her brothers creating a rift between herself and Graham the most controlling of the four. Even as he becomes more and more enamored with Cam he can’t shake the idea that her relationship with him will only drag her down. Cam becomes extremely jealous of Hannah who works at the gym where Dominic trains and is constantly throwing herself at him. Eventually it all comes to a head when Dominic is hurt in what was supposed to be his final fight. Cam feels responsible for attending the fight to show her support for Dom despite him telling her not to, which results in Dom losing his focus and being blindsided by his opponent.
Of course these two reconcile in the end but we don’t get to see much of their future together. The brief epilogue seems focused as much on Sienna leaving Savannah for Illinois to partner in a new business venture as it does on Dom and Cam’s relationship. Although Cam had thrown out some vague ideas of what she'd like to do with her life career wise the author never tells us what she actually decides to do. All we really know about the couples future is they are getting along well and Dominic is working for Ford.
On the upside Graham finally works up the nerve to ask Mallory to be his wife so all of the Landry men at least have found their true loves. There’s also surprising news involving Barrett and Alison and Ford and Ellie. But I have to admit I’m still disappointed that I have to start another series to see Sienna’s happily ever after and being another series how much of the rest of her family will we see? Then the author throws a real curve ball with the 6th book in the Landry Family series being not about Sienna but about single dad Nate Hughes falling in love with someone who wasn’t mentioned earlier in this series. Which is extra odd because as this book closes it seems that Nate is tight with Joy one of Camilla and Sienna’s BFFs leading you to think they had a future together. So why Locke concocted this small part of this book making Nate and Joy a couple if its going nowhere is a puzzlement to me. Between leaving us hanging with what Camilla is going to do to find fulfillment outside of her relationship with Dom and shoving Sienna's story off to another series I can't say I was very happy with this series ending.

🔹 SWEAR

Swear is the fourth book in the Landry Family series by the amazingly talented Adriana Locke. Each book can be read as a standalone since each one follows another Landry sibling. I just love this family so much. The parents are wonderful and know their family isn't perfect but it's theirs. Ford is one of younger brothers and this is his story...

It's been ten years since he walked away from the only girl he ever loved. He never forgot her. The way she smiled. The way she would get dirty (not in that way....ok, maybe a little). The way she laughed. The way she made him feel. But, he still left. He had to find his way. His place in the family. And it has brought him back to Savannah and back to her. She was a surprise. And when he saw her standing there in the middle of a mess of a store. He knew he could never walk away again. He also knew that he wouldn't let her either. The connection was still there and he knew in the moment that this was it. She was it. She was still his everything. He just needed to prove it to her.

Ellie knew it was him the moment she smelled him in the air. Even after all these years she still thought about Ford. The boy that broke her heart at eighteen. He was her future until he left. No real explanation. Just gone. She moved on with her life. Going to college. Working. And now she was home to build her business. What she didn't move towards was finding love. She knew she was in trouble when they locked eyes. She should have kicked his ass out at the very moment but she couldn't. He still had a hold on her and he knew it. Damn him and his sexy smirk. It was even sexier now. She couldn't do this. Not again. She couldn't fall for him and have him disappear. But a determined Ford is a dangerous Ford. To her heart anyway. Can she forgive him and trust that he won't leave her again?

Ford and Ellie's relationship is one epic second chance romance. Their story isn't easy but their love is. He knew it. She knew it. I felt for Ellie. She didn't want to lose herself again. She didn't want to rush into something if it wasn't real. She has to examine what they had before and why they still had this connection. Is it real or is it just because they were each other's first loves? She doesn't even know if she is ready for any kind of future with any man. Especially with one like Ford. Is it worth the risk of a shattered heart?

I loved this couple! Ford is intense, funny, sexy, protective, and oh so swoon-worthy. Something about a military man just makes me melt. And adding in that he is a family man...damn hot. Then there is Ellie. She is smart, beautiful inside and out, and is a fighter. She isn't a pushover. That is for sure. She is stubborn but for good reason. Something she gets from her father. Together, Ford and Ellie are sexy, sweet, and remarkable. Ford has that perfect blend of alpha, sweetness, and humor. I don't know how Ellie could have ever resisted.

Overall...it's one of my favorites from the series. I love every moment of it. It was a fun, hot, and emotional ride. I just can't get enough of this family. Seriously, the way they banter and love is just the best. I laughed hard. Cried more than once. And got heated in a few different ways. I can't wait for the next book. Camilla is a puzzle I can't to get the pieces for.

P.S. Violet is Violet and I love her for it.

Quotes:

“Do I look decent? I don’t have dirt anywhere or cookie crumbs on my shirt, right?”
“No, but check between your boobs,” she teases.
“He’s not going to be seeing between my boobs.”
“Not with that attitude.”

“Just looking at you is like foreplay,” I admit.

“You sounds like a country music song.”

🔹 SWINK
Swink is the fifth and final book in the sexy and fun Landry Family series. It's sad that this is the end of the series but so very happy to have met and fallen in love with this family. Each of them have different personalities that make them their own, and it makes up one of my favorite families in novels. The last four books have been about the brothers falling in love and now it's time for a sister to find her happily ever after...or to find heartbreak. Either way, she is ready for the fight.

Camilla and Dominic have been doing this thing for almost a year. The being a no-strings attached sex, hiding how they really feel kind of thing. A relationship without a title kind of thing. Camilla gets it. Dominic doesn't fit in her world. She doesn't fit in his. She hates how it makes him feel. She doesn't care that he doesn't wear a three piece suit to work. She doesn't care that he can't afford a penthouse. All she cares about it that he makes her happy. Makes her feel safe. Makes her feel sexy. And also makes her feel strong. If only, he would understand that.

Dominic knew from the moment he saw her that he should have walked away. She was too good for him. He was just a bad boy that she could rebel with. Her dirty little secret. Everyday when he woke up with her by his side, he wondered if it was going to be the last time. She would eventually wake up and reality would hit her. She shouldn't be here in his world. She should be in the penthouse with some millionaire CEO and not someone with three jobs to get afloat. But for some reason, she wanted to stay another day. He didn't get it but he wasn't ready to walk away. Not yet anyway.

Dominic and Camilla's story is everything! It's beautiful, sinfully sexy, swoon-worthy sweet, funny, and heartbreaking all at the same time. They might be from other sides of the tracks but that doesn't matter when it comes to love. They just have to figure that out! Will they be able to figure it out before it's too late? Will her family get in the way of their happiness? Will his insecurities get the best of him? Just writing about it makes me want to read it all over again!

Overall...I am crazy in love with this book. These characters. This family. It was great catching up with the Landry's. I will miss them dearly but I have a feeling we will meet again. Maybe. Hopefully.

Quotes:

“You’ve rendered me speechless.”
“Good. I like you Hughes boys better when you don’t talk,” I wink.

“We all mess up, Camilla. Look at Lincoln.”

“I’m going to give you a tip,” I say.
“I thought I was giving you the tip?”
My giggle makes him grin. “You better be planning on giving me more than the tip, Hughes.”
“Oh, baby. You’re going to get it all.”

Loving the Landry series!!

Swear
Time for a second chance...

Ford Landry is back in Savannah after a stint in the military and when he stumbles across (well a push from an almost sister-in-law also helped) the women he left behind, Ellie, Ford realises that maybe he is getting a second chance with the one he let get away.
Full of love, laughs and smiles... this is a story you won't forget!!

Swink
Blue collar man meets his white collar dream!

We have been hearing about Camilla Landry's mystery man for the last few books so I was thrilled that we finally got to meet him... and Dominic Hughes is a man worth waiting for. Dom has had to work hard for everything in his life while Cam has been born into a family where she hasn't wanted for anything. These two have chemistry that is OFF THE CHARTS but can that sustain a love when they come from two different worlds?!?
This book was unputdownable and I loved loved loved it!!
What a way to end the Landry Family series (except for Sienna of course but she starts off the Gibson boys series!!)

Can I just say that Adriana Locke knows how to write a romance and does not disappoint!

This is a two book series that includes Ford’s and Camilla’s stories (Swear and Swink). I finished it in TWO days. You will not want to put it down!

Ford’s story is about finding the one that got away and second chances. Ellie has to decide what’s worse, trusting Ford or never being wrapped in his arms again. This book is filled with so much emotion. Tissues are a must! Adriana Locke pulls your heart strings in so many directions. Love, loss and family.

And then there’s Dominic. The guy from the other side of the track that has caught the heart of Camilla Landry! They struggle to figure out how to be a part of each other’s worlds when they can’t quite understand them. One is holding the other at arms length convinced it can never work but also unable to imagine a world without them in it. You get to see more of the family dynamic outside of the family business. Love, support and strength. Four overprotective brothers who eventually surprise you and remind you why you love them!

Swear - This book was awesome. Ford and Ellie had to overcome so much heartbreak from their past to get their HEA. The characters were honest and the interactions between the brothers were priceless. The plot moved quickly and I could not put it down. I enjoyed this book so much I now have to go back and read the rest of the series. Loving the Landry family. I highly recommend this book.

Swink - Wow...romance at its best. The love between Cam and Dom made me laugh, cry and ended with a smile on my face. One tortured man trying to escape his past and one sheltered woman trying to make her own decisions regardless of her family's elite status. Two perfect characters in one emotional read. I could not put it down and I look forward to more in this series.

Swear #4 *4 stars
This book should have been called Two Weddings and a Funeral.
It tore me up. I always have trouble with the ones involving the death of a beloved parent. Specially, when it's the only family a person has left.
I really liked Ford, even though I wasn't too happy with his choices when he was a kid. Ellie was a strong, sweet heroine, and I thought she was a perfect match for Ford.

Swink #5 *4 stars
Through most of this one, I wanted to shake some sense into Dom. His prejudices blinded him to who Camilla really was and what he could've had with her a lot sooner.
And poor Camilla. Having to deal with her meddling, interfering brothers! Still, it's hard not to crack up about nearly everything Lincoln says.

2 books and still 5 stars!

This bundle contains Swear and Swink...nowhere in the description does it really say that...so there it is for someone like me who checked the reviews before buying to see if I could figure it out.

Loved the second chance in Swear. Ellie and Ford have a very involved past but they are both missing the other. It was great to see them get to come together again.

Swink started a little rough for me. I REALLY didn’t like Dominic. I felt like he was against the Landry’s no matter what and it didn’t sit well with me. It took u til the l it really end of the book for me to come around to him.
