The Doctor comes to FCBD once again!

This is a single comic book issue given in the Free Comic Book Day event of 2018, featuring 3 different stories with different Doctors.

The overall rating is an average sum based on the individual ratings given to each story included in the comic book.

CATCH A FALLING STAR

Rating: ***** ( 5 stars )

Writer: Nick Abadzis

Illustrators: Giorgia Sposito & Arianna Florean

WHO:

The Doctor: The Tenth Doctor

Companion: Gabby Gonzalez

WHERE & WHEN:

Deep Space. Non disclosured date.

WHAT:

Gabby is alone in space, about to die, after sacrificing herself, and she ponders about her life since she met the Doctor, but hardly she knows that this isn’t the end of her own story and a surprising cameo.

THE ARMAGEDDON GAMBIT

Rating: *** ( 3 stars )

Writer: John Freeman

Illustrator: Christopher Jones

WHO:

The Doctor: The Seventh Doctor

Companion: Ace

WHERE & WHEN:

Planet Trath. Non disclosured date.

WHAT:

At the planet Trath, the violent race of the Kla-Shi-Kel is rising in power, and they already obliterated several alien species…

…but they never were prepared for the Doctor!

It’s quite good, but at the end it’s sadly just like a quick prologue leading to a storyarc that it will be developed in the regular Classic Doctors comic books of Titan Comics.

MIDNIGHT FEAST

Rating: **** ( 4 stars )

Writer: George Mann

Illustrator: Mariano Laclaustra

WHO:

The Doctor: The Eleventh Doctor

Companion: Alice Obiefune

WHERE & WHEN:

TARDIS & Joe’s Diner. Non disclosured date.

WHAT:

Things are never boring in the TARDIS, not even at midnight when the Doctor is hungry and looking for some amusing snack.

AND INTRODUCING…

Rating: Not applied

Writer: Jody Houser

Illustrator: Rachael Stott

Maybe it’s not much a spoiler due the title of the last panel (that’s why I didn’t rate it since it’s not a story but only one page without dialogues but showing someone very much important for the future of the franchise.

Good selection of Doctor (Whovian?) shorts

I haven't read this collection of vignettes before (they were probably (?) written for this and I am not the most knowledgeable of fans) but it certainly seems to serve its purpose well. Enjoyable.

Bought for my chromebook but as large as the drawings were the writing was too small to read. Disappointing.

Het eerste verhaal was wel leuk en de andere twee een beetje vaag, maar wel oké.

UGH

Really not good. I’ve read better fan fiction. Avoid this at all costs. I should use the TARDIS and go back and make sure it doesn’t exist

Although the stories in this book seem to be complete they do serve as trailers, so to speak, for some upcoming projects. The stories feature the tenth, seventh and eleventh doctor, at least that is what the table of contents says. The problem is that The Doctor at the beginning of the story and throughout most of it is not the same Doctor at the end of the story. That's the problem you have with persons who can regenerate/change their appearance from time to time. The stories were enjoyable and often presented with a bit of humour in them. The problem I had is that I haven't really been following Doctor Who on television nowadays, so the only one I was really familiar with was the seventh Docter, played by Sylvester McCoy. It just so happens that version is one of my favourites and the story included his companion Ace, though she didn't try to blow anything up this time. So all in all a very pleasent bit of science fiction to while away a bit of time with. Happy reading. And oh yes, there is a picture/panel at the end of the book introducing Jodie Whitaker as the Doctor.

Three shorts

Three short tales of the Doctor. Each tale features a different Doctor. They may not be very elaborate but they do feel like an actual story unlike a lot of the free comic book day offerings which come across as less than a movie teaser (not even the full trailer). So a nice change.

Nice seeing Gabby again, but it was essentially just a repeat of where we saw her at the end of The Tenth Doctor series. Also, why is it labeled a Tenth Doctor story, given that Twelve is more involved? The Seventh Doctor story is kinda quick. And the Eleventh Doctor story is just him trying to find a snack. Nice art, but left much to be desired, this collection.

Hero Doctor and Friends

This comic compilation of Doctor Who stories introduced me to the main character and how he travels with humans on his adventures. This idea of time travel and numerical values to the Doctor are very new, and the compliments the other life forms have for him are very commendable.

Good drawing, but actually this are just outtakes of stories. The boring bits in between, but without the psychological things one would expect in between of adventures. So, nothing to read here, really.

Enjoyable but very short. The 11th doctor story was amusing but looked nothing like Matt Smith.

Stories not well developed

Stories too short and a bit lame. Dr who goes out for lunch at a Galactic dinner!? Come on! Good art work.

THE ARMAGEDDON GAMBIT

The Seventh Doctor & Ace on Planet Trath where the violent race of the Kla-Shi-Kel is rising in power, and they already obliterated several alien species… …but they never were prepared for the Doctor!

I love the Doctor who comics they are well drawn and the stories are top notch this featured the tenth, seventh and eleventh Doctors and their companions each leading into new stories I must say I am very excited with how the tenth and the eleventh stories are crossing over. That is one of the things I am loving about the comics the ability to do things you can't on television because of contacts actors aging or even dying.

If you are a fan of Doctor Who but not a fan of comics you really should do yourself a favor and check them out you are missing out on so many good stories my not doing so.
