Masashi Kishimoto (岸本斉史 Kishimoto Masashi) is a Japanese manga artist, well known for creating the manga series Naruto. His younger twin brother, Seishi Kishimoto, is also a manga artist and creator of the manga series O-Parts Hunter (666 Satan) and Blazer Drive. Two of his former assistants, Osamu Kajisa (Tattoo Hearts) and Yuuichi Itakura (Hand's), have also gone on to moderate success following their work on Naruto.
Kishimoto's first work as a manga artist was Karakuri (カラクリ?), which he submitted to Shueisha in 1995. This earned him the Weekly Shōnen Jump's monthly "Hop Step Award" in 1996, granted to promising new manga artists. This was followed in 1997 by a pilot version of Naruto (NARUTO-ナルト-), published in Akamaru Jump Summer. In 1998, Kishimoto premiered as a Weekly Shōnen Jump artist with a serialized version of Karakuri in Weekly Shōnen Jump, but it proved unpopular and was canceled soon after. In 1999, a serialized version of Naruto began publication in Weekly Shōnen Jump and quickly became a hit.
these two brothers own my heart! aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhh Itachi & Sasuke! Itachi & Sasuke! sweet & cute! with overwhelming amount of tears & emotions
(I'm writing this review months later, after I knew the real truth behind, well, everything!- it hurts! even without knowing the real buried truth! truly & painfully! so I rounded up to 5)
It's really easy to get sucked into this volume. A few revelations about Itachi and Sasuke come out here, including the nature of getting the Mangekyo sharingan.
Ah yes, the Uchiha clan's tragedy flashback (well, half of it at this point in the story). The only tragedy about them is that they were written into this story. But seriously, having an entire clan wiped out was a stupid narrative move that Kishimoto pulled only for unnecessary drama. What were those two bakery clansmen gonna do if they were sparred, awaken Perfect Susanoo and stomp the shit out of Itachi before Sasuke can have his brotherly showdown with him? Killing only the Sharingan users, now that would've made more sense. It would've put even more pressure on Sasuke to grow as powerful as possible, as the only Sharingan user left in a now-declining clan. And if it wasn't Itachi who actually killed the ungifted clansmen but You-Know-Who, then yeah, sorry to War Arc Naruto, but I'm really having an even harder time seeing how exactly was Tobi the "best guy" or whatever the actual quote is.
But back to this point in the story, isn't it funny how, with so many Uchihas around, we don't see even one female character poppin' up a Sharingan? It's implied Sasuke's mom had it, but I guess she was too busy being written as a housewife to care about her own abilities. Conservative and so called "shounen" standards were such a drag back then as much as they are nowadays (BNHA fans that actually care about proper storytelling and characterization could-probably-confirm that, just to give an example). It gets even funnier when I realize the only canon female Sharingan user we ever see in the story is not even part of the original series.
Finally! A good volume. Lots of backstory for Sasuke, and that's much appreciated as we can ultimately see him as more than just the emo prince of previous volumes. A traumatized child with a huge father complex and a very convoluted relationship with adored and hated older brother, Sasuke sure would use some therapy. The ninja world of Kishimoto's is a harsh place, though - lots of killing jutsus, not much store placed by psychology or even simple attention to the needs of others ;) In this context, Naruto's constant care for others, the bonds he creates and sacrifices he makes for the sake of those he loves are indeed something highly unusual. After all, he managed to warm up even the cold heart of the would-be killer Sasuke ;)
I guess my problem with Naruto is that it suffers from Kishimoto's piecemeal approach to complexity: Kishimoto ambitiously tries to infuse his manga with intricate layers, but succeeds only partially at best, sometimes adding depth, but sometimes just obfuscating simple meanings. Still, this is a good volume, where Kishimoto actually succeeds more often than not ;)
This volume covers mostly the Uchiha Clan's catastrophic backstory. It's really tragic that the entire clan was obliterated over the span of a single night. And now the feeling of revenge has dug its fangs in Sasuke so deep that he's unable to make heads or tails of the situation. Naruto's battle with Sasuke is still in full swing. I'm itching for a splendid fight and I might get just that in the next volume!

The ultimate battle that everyone was waiting for is here. A confrontation that never knew a real conclusion. This entire volume is dedicated to Sasuke's past and gives us insight into his relationship with his big brother and his father.
The tragedy that shadows his entire life is a saddening one and the perfect prologue to his fight with Naruto as you find out the deadly requirements to a powerful new skill.
I don't have words for how perfect this fight is and how much of my youth was defined by it. I was so obsessed with this series, and this particular fight is so prevalent in my mind. Just pure brilliance. Some of the best possible fiction one can consume.
I must say that I am not really a fan of Naruto and Sasuke fights. In fact, I am not really fan of Naruto's fights. The only reason this fights became memorable is because of emotional context it had....
It was nice to see more about Itachi's character. He is such a talented ninja that it must be hard for anyone to beat him. Even though this is so much predictable at the end but still it will nice to see how this fight goes on...
The long-winded, sappy, drama of the Uchiha clan. This volume takes a severe veer in the opposite direction to explain the downfall of the clan, Sasuke's perpetual moaning angst, and why Itachi is such a jerk. A big momentum killer after fighting the sound ninja for the last four volumes.
So in the series, you get backstory. Sometimes its okay and other times you're like, that's the reason, really? But with this one, it one of the better ones. Yeah, I get now why Sasuke's broodingness. And why his big bro is a little creepy. Good volume.
Sasuke continues to be my boy. Hope Naruto knocks some sense into him though. We're at the point where I stopped watching the anime so I have no idea where this will go next but I'm excited to find out.
Jumping in on Chapter 217: For Someone Important..!!! Gaara of the Sand Village comes to the aid of Rock, Lee who is fighting the sick member of the Sound Five, Kimimaro. This ninja has a Kekkiginkai (Family Bloodline Limit/ Superpower what have you,) that enables him to expel bone daggers. Then regenerating the missing bone instantly. This to my mind brings up very interesting scientific hypothesis. Anyhow it's a fight between the invincible shield and the perfect spear. Information is also collected on Orochimaru's operation and experiments. At the Valley of End, Naruto has caught up with Sasuke. What horrors await the happy go lucky ninja? Read to find out!
AWW! This book is all about saskue's past. It explains what happened before and after the day the uchiha clan was wiped out. It was sad and sweet to see the relationship between Saskue and his brother Itachi. Although Sakue loved Itachi a lot; he has a grudge against him for leaving him without a family, and for changing from being a harmless and caring brother to a power hungry murderer (who killed the entire uchiha clan except his brother.)
i think this was the best naruto-book whene they fight i thought naruto was going 2 win well no he lost but i got in to it and started readying more well i recomend this book for people that like comics.please start reading book 1 becouse then you wont understand but its a good book
Naruto vs Sasuke finally beings! After a nice flashback about Sasuke's origin story with Itachi. The title of this volume, "Brothers", is certainly about the Uchiha brothers Sasuke and Itachi but also how Naruto and Sasuke have become so close that they're basically brothers. Sasuke's relationship to Naruto is not at all similar to his relationship with Itachi but at this point in the series there's a similar level of anger pouring into both of them.
It's been surreal watching Sasuke go from the hotshot prodigy to someone who was willing to sacrifice himself to protect Naruto and Sakura. He was cold, and distant, but he gradually found a respect and comeraderie with Naruto that gave both of them some emotional connections they desparately needed. But after seeing Itachi, Sasuke has gone full powerman child who would betray everyone he's ever know for even a chance of growing stronger. Why is that? Well, once we get the background information here... yeah, it makes sense. And it's heart-breaking. Sasuke and Itachi are such wholesome brothers and for once you feel something for Sasuke that isn't just "hehe cool".
AHHHH soooo good. the addition to sasuke’s backstory and getting to see more of itachi and his story was exactly what i wanted and needed. naruto is definitely starting to tie with one piece when it comes to big 3 favs.
Another testament to master Kishi's greatest work being a manga masterpiece – close to the ending of part 1 of the series, a volume filled with emotion and proper use of foreshadowing in storytelling.
