"Some things you can give and give and not lose any. Things like happiness, or love or my colors." Elmer is such a joy to read. And I love the patchwork rainbow idea. :)
Such a cute book. Elmer who is different from the normal Elephant, but he is full of kindness. Surrounded by a herd of elephants that help him to investigate about a rainbow who lost its colors and a journey to recover the rainbow colors.

Hello, everyone! Today, we read Elmer And The Rainbow by David McKee, a story about kindness and love.
Elmer the patchwork elephant and his elephant friends are sheltering in a cave during a thunderstorm, but Elmer is excited. Once the storm ends, he knows there will be a beautiful rainbow! But when he goes outside, he finds that the rainbow has lost its colors! Elmer decides to share some of his bright colors with the rainbow, but first he must find where the rainbow ends. All his animal friends volunteer to help him, but they are worried: if Elmer gives his colors to the rainbow, what will happen to him?
Sometimes the sweetest lessons in children’s books come from the most unexpected places. Elmer’s instinct to be kind and selfless, and his friends’ willingness to help, are wonderful qualities to show young readers, but the best part of this story is the moral: Elmer gives his colors to the rainbow, but still retains his own. He explains that some things can be given freely without the giver ever running out, like his colors, or generosity, or love. The illustrations are bright, if somewhat crude in places (the Elmer series has a specific style to its illustrations), but friendly and colorful nonetheless. The length is fine, and JJ enjoyed it, and it’s got a stellar message, so this one is Baby Bookworm approved!
Absolutely loved *Elmer and the Rainbow*—what a charming little adventure! David McKee has such a warm way of telling stories, and this one is no different. Elmer’s curiosity about the rainbow really sparks the imagination. It’s the kind of book that makes you wonder just as much as the characters do. Perfect for sharing with the little ones, and it’s got that lovely blend of humour and gentle life lessons. Five stars from me—definitely a colourful read that leaves you smiling and pondering: will anyone find that pot of gold?
This is good book with the key focus being on 'giving'. After a storm a rainbow appears however it has come out too soon and lost its colours, so Elmer selflessly offers to give his colours. With no clue on what will happen to him after he has given his colours he still continues on his journey to find the end of the rainbow to restore its colours. The text is easy to read in block paragraphs and the pages are all brightly coloured to entice the reader.
This book follows Elmer as he tries to find the end of the colourless rainbow so that he can give the rainbow his bright colours! His friends help him find it but they’re concerned that he will lose his patchwork colours if he gives them to the rainbow. When he gives his colours to the rainbow, he still has his own, explaining: ‘some things you can give and give and not lose any’. Very lovely story.

"Some things you can give and give and not lose any. Things like happiness, or love or my colors."
I loved everything in this book. It's a book that even my 4-month old daughter appreciated. I will read it again to her when time comes that she can comprehend. :)
Elmer is my favorite character right now. He wants everything in color like him, so, when the rainbow looks so gray and no life Elmer tries to change it. Let's find out the solution that Elmer thought to make a rainbow. A good one!
Cute book while rainbow Elmer tried to bring the colors back to the rainbow and gives up his own colors. His friends are surprised he still has his colors. He tells them some things you can keep giving and not lose like love. Such a cute story.

т.е. слон.
When the rainbow loses its colors, Elmer looks for where it starts on the ground so he can give it his. Others wonder what will happen to Elmer, but it turns out that his colors are one of those things that you can give without losing any, like love. Good art, good lesson. Requested repeatedly by my 2 1/2 year-old.
Very cute book about doing your best to give what you can and in the end you don't lose yourself since any giving of yourself is showing and giving love and love never gets run out!

Elmer shares his colors when the rainbow appears as a pale arc across the sky. He and his friends search everywhere to find the end of the rainbow before being guided to the beginning.
World book day read with the kids- my lovely little one brought this in dressed as the most fabulous Elmer!! Such a cute message at the end I love it!!
Elmer and the Rainbow is a charming story about a rainbow and patchwork colored elephant who sees a rainbow without any color. He takes it upon himself to find the end of the rainbow so that he can give the rainbow his color. Along Elmer’s journey to find the end of the rainbow, he runs into a variety of different animals who try and help him find the end of this mysterious colorless rainbow. The animals repeatedly ask Elmer what will happen to him if he gives away his color, but Elmer does not seem to be concerned with himself, just with the rainbow. After much searching, Elmer finds the rainbow’s end at a waterfall. Without the other animals noticing, he selflessly jumps into the rainbow. The animals look in awe as the rainbow slowly, but surely turns bright. Elmer emerges from the waterfall unchanged. The animals are dumbfounded as to how Elmer has not changed if he had given his color to the rainbow. Elmer simply responds “some things you can give and give not lose any. Things like happiness or love or my colors.” The story has such a sweet ending with an amazing moral.
Elmer and the Rainbow was awarded Best Books of the Month for Children five years ago, a triumphant accomplishment. The major themes in the book are that giving love and being selfless is free. It cost nothing to help other people and do good. Elmer did something amazing to help the other animals and his world, it did not hurt him one bit. In high school, I loved helping out with the homeless and my church and I gave them food every week. It takes so little to do something that makes a big difference in other’s lives. That is my personal connection. I highly recommend this book because it is so important for children to learn the value of giving and how important it is to think of other people, not just themselves. The illustration is also beautiful, something that helps to keep young children’s attention.
