After living a privileged life of private schools, exclusive clubs and unlimited shopping sprees, she finds herself penniless and on her own. Her family fortune is lost amid a scandal involving her father’s business dealings, and her acceptance to Harvard Law School hangs in the balance. If she can’t find a way to fund her education on her own, she won’t be able to live her dream of becoming a high-powered attorney.
The only place Ruby knows to go to is Bluff’s Cove, a tiny vacation town in Cape Cod, the spot where her family owned a second home before everything went wrong. There’s a bar on the beach called “The Hut”, and rumor has it that the employees pocket a huge amount of cash each summer season. Ruby sets her mind on getting a job there to make up the shortfall so that she can cover her tuition and attend school in the fall. Having no real work experience is the obstacle she knows she’ll need to overcome.
What Ruby doesn’t expect is to lose her heart. Once she meets Cooper, she’s swept up into a summer romance that leaves her forever changed and questioning the only thing she thought she knew for sure…

A young woman has had the shock of her life when she learns that her father has lost his job and will not be able to foot the bill for her to attend Harvard Law School in the fall. She decides to work at a beach resort her family has beach house to earn enough money for tuition and expenses at Law School, but learns just before leaving that the beach house has been sold and she will not be able to stay there. She goes to the resort and gets a job, runs into a man she had a crush on during past visits, and finds a place to stay for the summer. Read this book to learn about the summer job at the resort, the people she works with, and her summer at the beach. I enjoyed this book and plan to read book 2 in this series next. I hope you enjoy it also.
How quickly your life can change! How would you handle yourself if this happened to you? Ruby shows what a strong person she is even though she is dealing with many emotions and questions. She also shows that she has a great head for business. The characters in this story are pretty believable. I’m sure we’ve all been put in a situation where we just didn’t quite fit in and acceptance was questionable. You could probably change the names of some of these characters to fit people you know. Ruby doesn’t give up and Cooper doesn’t either. Can’t wait to see what plays out in the next book.
I love Ms. Cohen's books. I couldn't put down Adjusting the Rear View and June wasn't any different. My only disappointment was that the book ended but I'm so happy that there will be two more in the series. Her stories are just so enjoyable and heart-warming. Her characters are very believable. I even had a crush on Cooper! Ruby shows amazing strength throughout the book as she tries to "make it on her own" after living a priviledged life and then going through major financial hardships. I can't wait to read July! I'm starting her first book, Lyric of Memory tonight.
This book was the perfect way to kick off my summer! I fell so fast for Cooper, maybe even faster than Ruby does. I felt connected to the characters and while I’ve never been to The Cape, I could completely picture this story taking place in my hometown of Clearwater Beach. The best part is that I don’t have to say goodbye to Ruby and Cooper because there are 2 more books to look forward to!
Ruby's life is turned upside down when her parents lose everything. She is determined to make enough money to cover living costs so she can attend Harvard. The Hut is the only place she can make enough in the summer,if she can get a job there. Cooper sweeps her of her feet can she keep to her plan after summer.
Read this is one day. Kept me interested and I will ready book two. Not generally the type of book I read, but simple and entertaining which is all that matters
