I've had in my mind that I'll read some self-help books this year to motivate myself and the persons around me with some short of gyan. But the thing is i don't really like reading these kind of books as reading them is a thoughtful process for me.

I picked up this book without knowing that it's a self-help book. But this book has something more. The author talked about the modern life we're now living in. The fact is that we think midern life is cool. But people should understand that money and sex is not the only thing that matters.

The author describes these things with a motivational touch with some real life examples. That'll help to understand what she is talking about.

The cover didn't really attract me. The writing style could have been better. The language is simple.

I'll recommend this book only if you're looking for short read.

Urban Insanity by Saheba Atal is a non-fiction book where she talks about relationships, behavior, education, compassion, ups, and downs in daily lives, social issues and a lot more in the form of short stories.

The book has discussed the transformation in thinking, relationships in this crazy urban/modern world and how we should deal with arduous situations in life. And the book has ended with a Karma Café story which was the most interesting. Though, it is pretty common knowledge or should I say many of us believe that you get served what you deserve. But yes, the author has framed a great analogy to describe how karma works.

Some stories were persuasive but some were flat. Like Ranjit's story after bankruptcy and how he grew as a person was something worth to ponder upon. And another story related to educating girls was good but at some point, it took a turn and contradicted its own idea.

Also, in the first story, I was just baffled by the perspective of the people involved. For instance, Noushin's decision (after her husband cheated her) to let all go by keeping a classy and elegant attitude can also be proven wrong. Since she chooses to ignore, refuses to confront and accepts a virtual apology, no sense of realization will hit Riaz and there is a possibility that he will consider it as an opportunity and might cheat again when he wants something new in his life. I think it sends out a wrong message especially when it’s a self-help book and not a fiction.

Similarly, there was another scenario where the portrayal of girls in modern school was just preposterous and it certainly gives out a wrong idea that girls from modern school do everything only to get boys attention.

For me, apart from Ranjit’s story and Karma Café, no other story has left an impact on me. I mean yes, the stories have discussed a lot of issues but the problem is I couldn’t find any solution to resolve those issues and I didn't feel encouraged at any point. And maybe this book has helped you in some way and that’s great but it wasn’t for me.

More than half of the world's population lives in cities, and it's not surprising that urban life is taking a toll on our health and well-being. From making us feel more anxious to polluting our bodies, urban lifestyle has indeed made us go crazy. People are more self-centered than ever, they have become greedy and are surrounded by negativities. For them, life is all about food, work and entertainment. They don't understand that our lives have a purpose, a deeper meaning perhaps. Through this book, the author aims at making us think about that meaning, and to make us introspect and question all the things around us.

The author has talked about a variety of evils prevailing in our society, whether that's adultery or gender stereotypes. The author has narrated few short stories for some of these topics, which she has witnessed in real life.

Urban Insanity by Saheba Atal is a very short book and follows the theme of urban culture and how it affects everything in our daily lives from our relationships to our beliefs.

When I was reading the book I could clearly see that the author was aiming for a relatable and inspiring read that people could take lessons from and for most part, it did the job really well.

The stories and characters were diverse and talked mainly about family relations, romance but also shed light on the prejudices and orthodox thinking that is deep rooted in people, even in today's time.

The narrative reflected really well on how even when we seem to be evolving, we're still caught in the tangle of old traditions that should've died out years ago and how modern relationships lack the intensity and will to express real emotions which makes life more complicated than it needs to be.

I won't dive too much into the story lines as I don't want to give anything away but I will say that even though the concept of these stories was not exclusive, they had a refreshing touch to it.

Even though the language was lucid, the writing style lacked the ability to paint vivid imagery which made me feel a bit disappointed. I wasn't able to fully connect to the book because of the narrative which lacked the ability to be gripping. The book has a lot of potential but there were some mistakes which were distracting and held it back from becoming a 4 star for me.

The book needs polishing but is a good read nonetheless.

I'd recommend it.

In the march we celebrate reading women. I'm Really happy that I read almost all great book. You read some book just to read and there are some book that changes your life completely this book come in latter part I'll tell you why.

Book start with a simple story of couple where husband is not happy with her and made affair with another women. The things is how life treat the way his wife understand all thing and explain us is give you goosebumps.

Every chapter of this book has different story not the same one. Book start with new born child and end in the karma cafe. You can only attain the code to live your life by keeping your mind, heart and soul as sorted as much possible.

Book talk about everything from men, women prespetive to how you should define yourself. From our childhood the way circumstances made us a normal person and the main focus how to break that zone.

"Women and men over being" and "the karma cafe" are my favorite chapter from this. The liked this book very much because it is just 145 pages yet covered almost everything passion, women empowerment, life, dream, success, karma, emotions etc.

Do pick this book. It is worth investment to know more about inner self. Kudos to author for writing such a great narration in small book. I'm honestly looking forward much more read from author.

The only thing I didn't liked is cover somehow it is misleading or not perfect illusation of what the story holds. I had great time reading this.

🌻My views :-
Talking about the book, this book is a brilliant piece of work. The author portrays our daily lives in this modern world. This books briefly describes our actions and reactions to all the ups and downs of life. The various emotions that we as a social being go through. There are several obstacles which surprises our emotional and mental capabilities many times. Human beings are all different from each other, so a person's expectations doesn't match with the perception of society. This book unfolds different chapters with an interesting headlines (like - the smart fools etc) All the chapters are very intriguing and have something to learn from. This book is so relatable with all of us and enumerates our in depth thinking which we generally don't recognize. There are various chapters and the author had beautifully made us understood all the theories with her simple language and metaphorical examples.

Words you write on piece of paper tells lot about you. And that’s why wise people say, choose your words cautiously. Well, Urban Insanity speaks lot about author. She is empathetic, bold, rational and does not fear to express. All these traits help a person to grow in the dimension she has tried to put in forward in her book. So, I am happy to see author has put substantial efforts to bring it effort.
It was good to see author has used the stories which urban mentality of modern times understand. Sometimes you have to use same thoughts to make people understand what is correct and what is not. Author has put in stories from different geographies of the planet. It definitely tells no matter where humans live basis problems are same, so kudos to author for highlighting it crisply.
Book begins with the Craving Heart. That’s what we are at lower planes, just mundane desires. Author tries to convey the message with very aggressive story of a married man who loses his focus in marriage and look out for more adventure. Unfortunately, this is trending, an act of infidelity, in modern society, an urban insanity. But I disagree with author on one point, if an individual is at higher plane he/she should have courage to call wrong a wrong. If he/she does not oppose assuming it does not impact me and I am living in higher planes, then it is selfishness even a bigger infidelity.
Book continues further with other chapters and they all are linked together. Believe me, sit down and introspect and you will find them connected. Once you rise above desire, you want to understand different relationships, you set goal to reach higher, pursuing such goals you will surely look like fools to other, your outlook with change as you will be focusing inside, all beings will appear equal, there will be flow of emotions, every moment will feel crazy and you will begin to understand the web of Karma.
In initial chapters’ author has used stories to convey the crux which I really liked but I am not sure why in later chapters I could not find them. I guess readers may lose the interest in later chapters, but I did not. Reading book gives impression that book has feminist tone. Well, I would say tone is balanced and I rest this point by quoting a point from book.
“Behind every successful woman there is man and he is father, who encourages her to achieve the best in her life.”
I found book the accumulation of knowledge by author and being weaved by rationality and her observation. When author say mother is origin of life, it sounds rationally correct. But real deep experience would convey, mother is the best medium to support origin of life. Such comprehension comes when you experience deep inside your consciousness. After all we need to know our mind. Once we know the mind then we don’t need to express since there is nothing left for same.
Do I recommend the book? Yes, why not but you need to read it slowly. You just cannot rush since such books require patience. Why? Because they are pure experiences and rationality tell us two individuals are different. You need to dwell in authors boot and you will really appreciate it. My rating will be 4 stars. Reason, you feel, you understand, you just need to go deeper inside your consciousness and try to answer coming from her soul rather than the rationality of world. Good Luck!!!

I don’t know in which category I can put this book. I picked up this book because I fell in love with the book cover and I am really happy that I picked up this one. From title and cover, we can predict that it might be related to urban culture and it’s hazards. Author has woven motivational and self help contest along with the stories. I loved that concept. I always thought that if I am going to write stories someday then I will definitely write this way like with story and characters examples and along with moral teachings. Good use of vocabulary and language. I loved the each stories and examples chosen. I will discuss only one story here as I don’t want to spoil it for the readers. I loved the very first story “The Craving Heart” the most. In that the story of three characters Noushin, Riaz and Mandira is woven around. It’s on the adultery. If I see around me, I find majority similar cases and I can only conclude two reasons for extramarital affairs. One is people blinded jump into the relationship and marriage without thinking, knowing etc. And the other reason is that couple believe that their honeymoon phase will last forever. When their honeymoon phase is over and reality starts hitting, they find the escape mechanism and extramarital affair is the easiest escape they find. So I loved this story the most. I loved the topics chosen for discussion and I must say that I really loved the author’s point of views and opinions. I really enjoyed reading. Gujarati is my mother tongue and generally Gujarati authors write these type of writings and I love reading those but for the very first time I am reading in English language. This type of book should be encouraged in society as it’s focused on issues of urbanisation. Overall it’s good one and worth reading. I recommend this to everyone.

And I forgot to mention my favourite lines..

“Some pleasures of life are illegal, morally wrong, either expensive or flattering..... I wish only chocolate could have been spared among other indulgences.”

Book Review- Urban Insanity by Saheba Atal

Rating : 3.5/5

Received the Book for review purpose from Kitabikeeda Team.

I picked this book to try for something different kind of read as I am a person who always into fictions and it could not dissatisfied me. This isn't care for some other self improvement guides which continues clarifying troublesome apparatuses and systems to apply in expert and individual life. The suggestions given in this books are straightforward and simple to apply in our daily life or better we can see most of the narration are related to Urban life.

The book has talked about the change in speculation, connections in this insane urban/current world and how we should manage strenuous circumstances throughout everyday life. The greater part of the total populace lives in urban areas, and it's not astounding that urban life is negatively affecting our well-being and prosperity. From making us feel progressively restless to contaminating our bodies, urban way of life has surely caused us to go insane. Individuals are more narcissistic than any other time in recent memory, they have turned out to be covetous and are encompassed by negativity. For them, life is about nourishment, work and amusement. They don't comprehend that our lives have a reason, a more profound importance maybe.

Few stories are impressive but I could not agree with few. For instance, Noushin's decision when she caught her her husband with other woman and she let all go by keeping a classy and elegant lifestyle. Since she overlooks, won't face and acknowledges a virtual statement of regret, no feeling of acknowledgment will hit Riaz and there is a probability that he will think about it as a chance and may cheat again when he needs something new in his life. I think author should not ended the way it has.

It is a good book where you can get the highlight of Urban life and the lifestyle. A self help book and its a good try .

The only thing I didn't liked is cover which is over illustrated and not goes with the blurb .

The title of the book is a very apt one. It talks about the insanity of the modern time relationships. Relationships are complex as well as easy depending on the mindset of the people in relations. Perspective plays a very important role. The author has laid down the different perspectives of the people in such relationships and scenarios.

"some pleasures of life are illegal, morally wrong, either expensive or fattening.. I wish only chocolate could have been spared among other indulgences".
Looking at the same thing from a different perspective, the one which hurts us the minimum is the right one for us. It's like one shoe doesn't fit for all. The author has used examples to make her point. Not all are worth a thought or do I agree. But some are definitely worth pondering.
The one that talks about husband's affair out of boredom and the way the wife looks at the same is interesting. These days moving on, being practical in relationships, using people and discarding are the ways of modern society.
A bitter facts of today's life style is shared with examples and stories. Divided into small chapters which covers topics like karma, success, emotions, women empowerment etc.

It is definitely a motivational and self help book but very much different from the other same genres book. Because it holds a lot more importance and the perspectives is very different and unique. The author here has share some real life stories in the form of providing examples and better learning and understanding the concept. All the stories are very contrasting to one another but deals with the modern behaviour and thoughts of urban people. The modern and progressive outlook of urban dwellers. It also showed the ugly side of the society as well as the Orthodox thought process. Like the Differentiation of status of Men and Women in society. And also of longing for love and lust together. And various other concepts like paying back the Karma. I have enjoyed reading it but one should read it slowly for better involvement and understanding of the concepts. Yes should definitely read at least for once. The cover is very much different and unique I must say. And there are also some small illustrations starting with every chapter which I liked.

A bitter facts of today's life style is shared with examples and stories. 📚Urban Insanity By Saheba Atal📚
In this urban life, where each day can drive us insane, we crave sanity, tranquility and yearn to achieve it. You can only attain the code to live your life by keeping your mind, heart and soul as sorted as much possible. Only then your mind and your physical being can feel the essence of living. .
My Thoughts📚
I rarely read self help books but when I do I am so choosy about them. When I started this book I was sure that this may content something different & it actually has alot of unique perspective about living or what we call it as life. The book is packed into a compact size & limited number of pages but the truth is it's 10 times more to what it seems. It's deep & nurture the thoughts & well being of the human nature & the tendency which is followed be we Homo spaiens sapiens from years. I liked the book to the core because of it's very natural & deep content. Although, the cover is disappointing & I just couldn't connect myself with the title.
.
🌼What I liked?
The book has it all. I had marked alot of phrases & passages & trust I won't do it until the book is good enough. The narration was strong yet simple. The content is definitely very rich & I will recommend it to people who are looking for a good, deep, easy book which will converse with you throughout.
.
🌼What I didn't liked?
The book had some stuff with which I just couldn't relate, also more vivid description was welcomed.

*The purpose of any mind residing on this planet is to remain sane. The purpose of all emotions residing in all hearts on this universe is to be sorted. This is because an insane mind and an unsorted emotions cannot lead to a constructive accomplishments hence fulfilling your purpose.*
.
.
Urban Insanity is a brilliant non-fiction written for making the society a bit sane and it's people a bit more.
Dealing with various societal issues, and even some mental issues at an individual level, Saheba Atal in this book plays beautifully to spread undue awareness in the society and minds of people. It is hard to believe that this book is author's debut. It is amazing how she uses personal examples to support her own views about insane urban society. .
.
Different stories have been penned to talk about relationships, ups and downs, education and a lot more. My favourite part of the book is the story of Ranjit. I believe there is a lot that readers can learn from Ranjit's life story. There's another story at the end about the Karma Cafe that definitely has a very powerful impact on my mind. .
.
I found some of the stories very uplifting and motivating, while some were just flat for I couldn't relate them to any of my life's problems.
I'm not really a fan of non-fiction, but this book sure has some values that needs to be imparted in the society.
Overall, this book is perfect for a short non-fiction read.

The book is like a self help or motivational book. It contains 10 small chapters which talk on topics like relationships, culture, lifestyle, goals, karma and so. The chapters highlight the bitter truth of urban life. It talks about the insane urban life situations. For eg - Now a days people lose interest in a relationship. Because they are bored of routine and look for an entertainment outlet (extra martial affairs and so on). Another eg is how we get intimidated by different lifestyles and cultures.. We feel a need to upgrade our lifestyles. The author also highlights how the idea of 'life should be simple' is killed by us because we are getting so insane with the urban life that we find simplicity boring. In few topics the author has given eg in form of stories to explain such situations. The book is written in a simple language and easy to understand. The stories have a very deep meaning and message. I took 5 days to complete this book though it has only 135pages. Because it takes time and you need to have a present mind to understand such things.

What i didn't like about the book?
I didn't like the cover somehow.

Do i recommend it?
Yes. But only to those who like reading self help books or are hardcore readers. This is definitely not for beginners.

In Urban Insanity, Saheba talks about the urban life of today’s generation and its harsh realities. This has taken control of our minds and we’re losing the sanity of our lives by chasing these worldly pleasures. Big question- are our minds evolving at the same pace with which this urban epidemic is conquering the global corridor?

The book discusses various topics, from relationships, adultery, stereotypes prevailing in our society, how growing up in different cultures has an overall effect on us and how very important it is to analyze rather than just react.

You’ll find yourself in the same wavelength as the author if you’ve also been concerned about these social issues.

Though it’s a small read with 144 pages, it couldn’t be read in one go. I even don't think that one should! You need time to digest what Saheba has to say.

Even though the author’s apprehensions are good to read and digest, I found the narration disappointing in between. At some places, it turns very dull. I would say it could be because of some repetitive phrases in the sentences, and improper punctuations- things that should have been taken care of by the publication. Also, in the first chapter, I found my ideologies revolting with what the author had to say, but the other chapters were quite good with important learnings and examples portraying the situations.

" I was in a place crying, and you were in a place laughing. When we both were together in one place, I made you cry and you made me laugh. We laughed together and cried together and cried together, so let's be in one place."

This book is a deep insight into our everyday life, the things that we know yet we forget to acknowledge and pay attention to them. We tend to forget it in our URBAN INSANITY.

The way that the author commences each story is unique and something that I've seen for the first time ever.

Each concept that the author explains, she gives a general view first and then narrates it from the point of view of the story.

I love the fact that she gives so much importance to the things happening. My favorite story has to be THE CIRCLE OF LIFE- KARMA CAFE.

I think that the stories could've have been made more intriguing and inquisitive so that the reader doesn't get bored to read it but that was missing. there were some parts which were boring and which I felt had to be read forcefully just for the sake of getting rid of it.

The book "Urban Insanity" talks about different topics on deeper level. It takes you to the depths of your mind and thoughts. The author has tried to do so. She has tried her best to explain different aspects of life of women and men. About marriage, relationships, schools and other stuff we don't usually talk about.
But I felt the language was sexist, maybe thd author was trying to be bluntly honest. Even though I was enjoying the read, I was very uncomfortable about the take or outlook. There was a line which was explaining that the men can be manipulative and want a virgin wife while they themselves keep girlfriends to look for life partner.
The writing was smooth but there were some errors.

Well this book contains 10 small chapters where author talks about variety of topics viz. Lifestyle, culture, goals, karma and relationships. And to explain them properly she had narrated few examples also. In short this book highlight the bitter truth of our so called 'modern and urban life'

Now let's talk about the cover and title of the book. Though cover is catchy and attractive but more can be done.
Title is Very apt as this book talk about the insanity of the modern and urban life.
But what makes this book more beautiful is quotes written by our author.
Apart from some spelling mistakes here and there(which can be ignored) the book is written in simple and lucid language and it is easy to understand.

Trying to fit in the societal norms , why ? Why do we follow what others felt was right ? I am different my mind , my heart doesn't want what everyone else wants. urban life and the norms we are so used to follow or are bound to follow , but why ? This book has different stories - each talking about a different issue. This book motivates The reader in a positive way. Each story tells the mindset of people in general. Each story is beautifully written with lots of impact , each chapter shattering a stereotype. It has an engaging narration. I would recommend to read one chapter at a time to truly observe this book full stop it is mentally uplifting. Overall it was a great experience. Highly recommended , worth reading.

Urban insanity title itself refers too insanity in us which drives us back and forth.
It's good read as it motivates and author has different perspective for same situations which I liked about it.
It has some short stories and some her case studies, earlier I thought It would be about husband and wife as book cover suggested that, then it went different directions like Karma, emotions, professional and personal life, dreams and demons. She included everything in just 144 pages.

Cons: somewhere I felt some paragraph were repeated and it was tedious also.

Pros: it's a motivational book anyone dealing with any self doubts should read it. It has some good stories.

This book shows us how urban mentality has changed our perspective on life. The book showcases part of our daily life which we as an individual have gone through in phase of our life in the form of stories having characters belonging to different cultures and having a different mindset. Each story gives us some lessons and has a few relevant quotes adding beauty to the stories.
The author believes that a sane mind helps us to fight these harsh realities which can hamper our sanity. Readers will connect to each story and might find answers to their problems as well.
Verdict: It is something more than a book. It highlights some bitter truths of our insane reality.

I am still in awe people.
I am so impressed by the author ‘s writing skills and
I couldn’t leave it once I started reading it.And it wasn’t just like I was on some spree to finish it but I genuinely felt that whatever the stories and scenario that are described in the book are very real and relatable. As the name suggests the book deals with urban culture and it will surely leave you in the introspection in the end.The vocabulary and narration are strong yet simple.
I liked the cover design and the title is well suited.
Overall it’s a very good read and I highly recommend this book.

“I didn’t know I was a lady,
Until they asked me to be one,
Or to pretend like one.”
This is my favourite poem from the book titled “ Women and Men over Beings”.
It was an enjoyable read. The author tried to convey much deeper than what it seemed and it was good. The concept of how city life takes a toll on our health and our life. Some parts became a little boring (for me as I don’t read books of this genre much). It was like a self-help book and took time to process everything.

The book gives practical applications on how to achieve sanity and be calm and present, but it focuses too much on religion and god. I personally don't believe in God or a higher power, but I liked the book.
It is pseudo self-help book with anecdotes and examples.

Nor Sarcastic, nor judgemental, niether forcing you to accept or deject your beliefs. Just an innocent writing as pure as soul as honest as one is to his reflection in mirror but as awakening as a bad dream.

Saheba gives no clue as a debut author. She is writing not as she has to define a margin or a boundry to her over the brim flowing thoughts, her pen knows no limits so when you read URBAN INSANITY it doesn't let you forget it's Preface at any point throughout the book.

Strengths-At some places it's so deep and reality stricken that you start hating the idea of writing real as she might have experienced it and doesn't breach the lucidity of even a wrong philosophy eg. When a guy explains that "How he knows a girl is good to be married?"
He replies, "She wasn't dating, she used to go out only with her parents and rest of the bullshits" but the author as someone trying to learn the thought processes don't even judge them and also provides a reasoning as to why?

Weakness- All though the writing style is flaunting and do not let one doubt of her capabilities and command over the language. It's true that there are grammatical error which i attribute a mistake of editors and publishers.
(Grammatical errors are common in books from Notionpress.)

Target readers- This is 18 plus novella not because it have any obscene content but because to understand the hidden sarcasm author have picked up from lives of regular people needs certain lifely experiences like relationship, biased thoughts women go through. Etc.
